Dave, I wanted to say thank you for this wonderful review. After a few weeks of waiting for a good price and narrowing selection between Lenovo Legion and Omen 15, I finally went with the Legion 5i as it's currently on sale right now (7/12/21) during their cyber Monday in July sale. Thermals was a great factor for me so I'm glad you said it doesn't get too hot on this one. Again, thank you so much!
Thank you for your insights. Regarding the hinge issue on previous Legion products, it has more to do with the plastic base under each hinge which is supposed to anchor the hinge. But due to structural weaknesses of each plastic base due to torsional forces coming through the screen, those forces ended up unseating the plastic base under each hinge, thereby de-stabilizing each respective hinge. Fortunately, that issue has been rectified in the mid-2020 version of the Legion 5. I've referred to this and your other videos on other gaming notebooks and just purchased the Legion 5 with the AMD processor. Ravi Peiris M.D.
yeah same here. Never had a laptop that chunky but it's really powerful. wish they could do a redo but with a 3060 instead. the pro version looks amazing too but it's too expensive (I paid almost $300 more for this one because of the pandemic, still it's worth it)
I ordered the 7i a little while back, it will be in a week or so, super excited to see the 5 being reviewed. Good work Dave! And the 7i does have two nvme slots also the code EXTRAFIVE gives a 5% off which stacks with the student/vetran/senior 5% off.
Hey David.... I own the Lenovo 5. got it via Best Buy for a cool 950 on sale. It came with 8gb Ram but I slapped another 8gb onto it and this laptop is a beast. Great review... but I would add that this gaming laptop is a great workhorse. 4k editing. It manages my Insta360 (5.7k footage well) I game AND stream on this rig without performance issues. COD Warzone plays on this like a dream while handling OBS, and streaming. IF it could make my coffee I think it would manage to do so. Anyone considering this laptop should absolutely take the plunge! I do recommend a cooling pad to go with it. It does get warm!
I have owned this product for 1 year and its performance is still great and still looks great. Im glad I bought this product. Thanks for this great review!
@@hugovinicius2068 hey no problem! My days been particularly great lately thanks for asking. I use this laptop heavily being my only computer for everything I do gaming/personal ect. It looks brand new still honestly. Works the same, no fan issues , still stays cool normally. No wear and tear damages. The hinges work great. Not loose or even crunchyness. I love this laptop. It's really holds up. The keyboard works normally and the front plate where you rest your hand a lot doesn't show any oil stains or any rubbing spots. I do use a mouse tho . Definitely a solid laptop.
Thank you for the mischief! I myself was recently given a Lenovo Legion 5 with AMD Ryzen 5 and RTX 2060. And I'm completely satisfied with it! It is my version of the laptop that surpasses its pro version in many respects. In general, Lenovo Legion 5 has a lot of advantages, thanks to which it outperforms its competitors. bought it with R7 4800H + 1660 Ti for 999,00€. Beast ! Well engineered ! Great display options. Good materials. Nice backlit keyboard. Back ports. Very well priced. Great product.
I just bought this today at Best Buy. Good build quality, and I love the sturdiness and smoothness of the hinge. Haven't played any games with it yet, but I'll update during the week.
@@sedenyavuz9656 So I've had this laptop for a few days now. It does get very hot when gaming, so I would suggest a cooling pad, which I'm getting from Amazon, but it should be fine if you don't actually game on your lap. The trackpad is what you would expect, it's smooth and responsive, especially with the refresh rate of the screen which puts my old 2016 HP to shame. The keyboard is nice and sturdy, satisfying to type on. My version came with programmable RGB through Lenovo Vantage. I'll update with more thermals when I test it more, but so far so good!
Another update, I've had this laptop for two years now. Still running strong after two years of daily use. It does get hot at times, so I would suggest keeping it elevated, but still runs most modern games at high settings.
@@calebemmanuellabot1444 there is the generation 6 out already and there are versions with 165hz, but it's not the cheapest, so I will wait till it gets cheaper xd
I had the Y520 and it lasted me for a long while and was passed down to my family and still going strong. Lenovo does a good job on a quality laptop. One thing I do not like on this Legion 5 (i) is the shifting of the arrow keys inward towards the center. As a left handed gamer, I love the old position beneath the keypad.
The only problem arises, the availability of the laptops, I have found 3 decent laptops, however, none of them are available in my country 😭 This should be fixed 😁

I'd actually be more interested in the AMD part, they've been killing it in the mobile space lately and Intel has not been able to match them really. I didn't care for how easily he disregarded that variant.
I have been watching you since 2017, and I can tell that you're getting older now. time goes by so fast, I was just a 3rd year student at that time dreaming of having a gaming laptop myself. Now I already got one and that's from my own money that I worked for. Thank you for all the help in reviewing these laptops.
Dave, love your vids. U explain every aspect of a laptop so well. Literary the ultimate buying guide. Please review the new hp OMEN 15 2020 as soon as it launches. Im thinking of buying it. Man I'm supposed to pick between this and the 2020 omen....I don't know which to go for. What's keeping me from the omen is the build quality that gap between the screen too
Rey Joson if you do go for the legion the build of it feels very well built and very durable, i think the only con i can think of the legion build is that the hinge comes wrapped in some sort of plastic, not sure if it’s supposed to be like that or taken off, but it’s pretty unnoticeable, i only saw it because over time the corners of the wrap starts to peel back a bit, but it’s pretty hard to take off, i gave up trying to. other than that i don’t think there is anything else i ran into.
godsmanager im looking for a creator laptop, that’s my goal and need. I only considered these gaming laptops so I can work and play at the same time. But the main issues that I encountered on these machines are the low color accuracy and the price. Some color accurate gaming laptops are way out of my budget. Some budget gaming laptops comes with low color accuracy. Just to be safe I got myself a Macbook Pro, which is all work no play kind of machine 😥
Rey Joson i understand, i’m a high school student and i needed a quick laptop for school, i just happened to run into a specked out legion and got it since it was the only good one for the price. i didn’t want to wait and just got it to make sure i have something, i hope the macbook works well, i don’t know much about apple but it sure they’re products are good for productivity and creating if i’m right.
So I bought this laptop a few months ago and I really love it. The only thing I would say is that the fans get slightly loud when I play demanding games but everything runs perfectly
The rubber finish will actually degrade at some point. But mostly after a period of about 4 years. Had that happen with Thinkpads, Phones, etc Nothing to be too concerned about as devices do show age. But when it gets sticky it’s done

Could someone use this laptop for graphic design?
yeah same here.

👍 Nice
It's the 7i that I'm interested in too.... I hope to see some reviews for that soon 👍

I bought one after watching your review it was the i7 processor. I love it.
Bought this laptop (Ryzen 7 RTX 2060 version) for heavy duty video editing and works perfectly...no issues at all thanks to this review. Thanks Dave.
How does it work with 4k?
I really wanted that one but my local store only had the 1660ti version. bad thing is doesn't support ray tracing because it's not rtx.
Still no issues?
Will it beat the 2020 hp omen 15?

I am completely satisfied with this laptop and give it 11/10!

The only problem arises, the availability of the laptops, I have found 3 decent laptops, however, none of them are available in my country 😭

I'd actually be more interested in the AMD part, they've been killing it in the mobile space lately and Intel has not been able to match them really. I didn't care for how easily he disregarded that variant.

Thank youuu.
Man I'm supposed to pick between this and the 2020 omen....I don't know which to go for. What's keeping me from the omen is the build quality that gap between the screen too
@@Black_myst i'm also looking forward to the 2020 Omen BUT I'm also hearing that the build quality is not that good.
