This is our detailed review of the Lenovo Legion 5 15ARH05, one of the better AMD Ryzen laptops of the moment.
Lenovo did many things well here, implementing good screen options, comfortable inputs and a well-thought IO. On top of that, the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H processor inside this Legion 5 performs flawlessly in CPU heavy tasks and efficiently at the same time, allowing the laptop to run cooler and quieter than most other devices in its class.
There's a catch, though, and that's the limited GPU options available for now, which top at an entry-level GTX 1650Ti chip. That's fine for FHD gaming with medium settings, but a 1660Ti or a 2060 would have been a better match for the competent AMD platform, and hopefully will be available in the near future.

Also does the intel variant consume much more battery (along with the 1660 ti)? What should I expect for a difference? I just bought one of these (in September 2021). I decided to go with the R7 4800H model instead of the newer R7 5800H models as I'm not a gamer - I'm a developer. I don't need "bleeding edge" performance, or a gazillion Hertz refresh rate (although mine comes with the 300 nits 144Hz panel). Mine will also have the Nvidia GTX 1660Ti. I wanted one with the GTX 1650, but they're all out of stock in my region. I'll be using mine as a Linux workstation. Have read about all the issues people have getting Linux installed (and working) on the Legion 5 gen 5, but I'm hoping most of these issues have since been ironed out.

This looks like a very capable laptop, just not for gaming. The graphics card is more than enough to run popular esport titles like League of Legends and Counter Strike, but might come short if you want to run new triple A games at high settings or framerates. Personally I am considering buying it to use for coding, running Docker containers and as a general desktop replacement. Only disadvantage I can think of is the size and weight, but it is significantly cheaper than the Asus Zephyrus G14 and probably runs cooler.

Point of clarification, you mentioned 10+ hours of video on a single charge, but 5-6 hours of regular use? Usually doesn't video playback result in more battery usage than regular workloads and web browsing?
Are you referring to local video playback rather than streaming therefore such a huge difference in battery life and consumption, or is there a difference in how the Ryzen CPU handles video playback opposed to other laptops? It still seems like a rather big jump in runtime.
What battery settings was this tested on; just the default settings or did you switch to e.g. better battery/best battery life in the power save settings? Just a few things I'd like to clarify as a friend is in the market for a new laptop before he begins college.

This would be the perfect laptop for editing video, mostly because the processor can handle a lot of effects and export really fast, I would say this is the second or third best processor in a notebook to this day, is even faster than the one in the MacBook pro 16, wich is more expensive. Plus the graphics card has a lot of optimization with some video editing software because is Nvidia.
Just make sure you get 16gb of ram or better, because editing video consumes lots of it.

If you do cpu based video rendering then go for it !
4800H is the of the best cpu (second to 4900H obviously, that one is binned chip and is able to run at higher freq/ watts so will perform better at balanced option , but if you set it at performance mode then its almost equal)!
Well the gpu is ok for medium settings 60fps gaiming and if you don’t care about super high end graphics then its a must buy!
Good thermals, thermally unlocked cpu able to run at 69w max at 90-95c ! Better battery in the non unlocked profile a good 100%sRGB screen !

So I'm watching this in September. I have a 1660ti option available and I'm looking to buy as a student finishing highschool. I've been told that the 4800h is the processor to go for, and I'm looking for a 1660ti or 2060 with a large enough battery that I won't have to worry about it dying on me through the day. Can anyone recommend this as a student laptop and can someone advise if there is a 2.5 inch drive bay that I can populate with larger storage?

I use it mainly for university work and I get maybe 4 or 4 and a half hours out of a full charge when it's on power saving mode. I plan on getting it upgraded sometime in the near future. Issues with HDMI & USB-C Display Port output, anyone had those issues? I got the Legion 5P (Ryzen 4800H, RTX 2060) form Currys-PC World here in the UK for £999. The laptop comes with lower RAM and SSD specs (8GB and 256GB respectively), but they are both upgradable and I intent to upgrade to 32GB RAM and a second 1TB NVMe as soon as I have finished testing the laptop and happy with its performance. The first thing I tried to do after finalising Windows installation was to try to connect to two external monitors, very important to me for Soft Dev work. The laptop provides both HDMI and USB-C with Display Port at the back and both, according to the specs, support 4K @60Hz. Unfortunately I got all sort of issues:
    1. The USB-C connection didn't detect any external monitors at all, does anyone know if I need to do anything special to "activate" the Display Port of the USB-C interface? I tried using a direct USB-C to USB-C cable with a 1440p HP monitor that has a USB-C in, but no luck. I tried using a small portable "docking station" that has USB-C to HDMI adaptor, but again no luck. With this adaptor I tried different HDMI cables and 3 different monitors, 2 x 1440p and 1 x 4K. All those configurations have worked fine in the past with my older 2018 Dell XPS and with a much newer 2020 Huawei MateBook 14, no issues at all. Anyone had that or a similar problem with the USB-C video out?
    2. The HDMI connection worked both when connecting to 1440p and 4K monitors, but with a lot of issues. The 4K monitor was OK for the first couple of minutes then I was starting to get a blank screen (totally black screen) appx. every 10 secs and for about 1 sec each time. Very annoying. Tried different display modes, for example 32bit-60Hz, 59Hz, 50Hz, etc, but I was getting the same issues. The 1440p monitors behaved a bit better, no blank screens, but when I was playing TH-cam videos as a test the video would freeze every time I would maximise it to full screen, but the sound playing from the monitor speakers was fine with no interruptions, etc, as if the video was continuing playing behind the frozen screen. Also when I was splitting a Chrome window playing a TH-cam video between the laptop screen and the external screen, the half of the video on the laptop screen was playing fine where the external monitor half was frozen. I got some other similar issues, even when I tried enabling/disabling Optimus and used various display modes, etc.
Needless to say that after I encountered all these issues I tried several combinations of settings, installed all Windows 10 latest updates, upgraded all NVidia and Lenovo drivers, etc. The issues persisted. I even reset Windows a couple of times to make sure that it was not those updates creating the problem in the first place. But after a reset I would get exactly the same issues.
Anyone had any similar issues with the video output of the Legion laptops? Did I just receive a bad instance of this model? I have now returned the laptop and waiting for a replacement to arrive soon and I hope that I won't have the same issues, but any comments on this matter will be appreciated. Thanks ;-)
