    In this video you will learn how to create text to sand, text to dust animation in Adobe After Effects without any third party plugins. Particle dissolve effect can be used in many scenarios, such as logo animation, intros or outros, text animation and more. Luckily After Effects has built in effects to create an awesome particle dissolve scene in just couple of minutes. After watching this video you will be able to turn any text, title, lower third into sand or dust particles.     IF PARTICLES are contained within boundaries of a text layer then use SOLID COMPOSITE and set OPACITY to 0% instead of cc composite.
    For updated after effects users.

    Another awesome tutorial. I learned this effect sometime ago. But the tutorial I used was around 30 mins long. You manage to do a better tutorial in 5 minutes.

    amazingly well explained, thank you! The only thing is that I am having the same problem as another comment, the particles are bound within the text box, tried precomposing but didn't work, bit stuck

      Maybe something's changed, it should either be cc composite effect or precomposing a layer to remove the bounds

      Hi, thanks for the reply, I managed to open the handles to the edges of the composition which worked but now the alpha part doesn't make the particles stick to the letters, never mind. 🙏

    Thank you! I had NO idea that After Effects could do this! I mostly use it for monochrome work but have recently gotten into streaming and want to make an awesome "BRB" screen. Sadly, trying to use this with more than one word is more difficult...

    I was looking for such tutorial which can teach me to create particles without third party plugin. A very easy tutorial completed just in 5 minutes. You not only complete the project but also explain what each option in the effect plays its role. It is marvelous. Can you please tell how can I convert it to reveal instead of wipe?

      Pre comp the text layer and then apply the cc effects to it and it shud work

    hey! awesome tutorial, everything i did worked besides the fact that when I did this it only applies the dust within the text box and not the composition as a whole, i followed step by step so not sure if AE updated it out of existence the way you showed here but is there something I maybe missed?       Try precomposing the text layer and do it that way, it should work fine

    Good tutorial, question... when I add the effects to the text, it crops to the size of the text and not all the composition, do you know why? (sorry for my english, it os not my first language)

      You need to precompose the text and then apply the effect so it doesn't crop

    Buddy this is my first after effects learning video total begginer to it. It was really easy for me to understand it. Could you tell me how to create this as a plugin so that I dont need to apply so many settings everytime. I am able to create this dust to sand effect but i want to make it as a plugin so that i can easily just by clicking the plugin add animation to my text

      You can save a project file and import it into a new one as a template, then adjust the animation without having to create it from scratch

    Hey, thanks so much for this tutorial. I am working on a project and wanted to emulate this style of animation. Is there anyway we can make different parts of the dissolve fade in different directions at the same time? Almost as if it's breaking apart

      Hey, thanks for commenting. Not with this particular method, shatter effect with a custom shatter map could create such an effect, or maybe a trapcode particular plugin which is paid, that's a downside.

    I've done this effect before and it worked before hand but going about this now, my sand particles aren't flowing outside of the text box section... any way to fix this?

      Play around with gravity settings to spread the particles out, if that is what you mean

    Quick question, what if you wanted the sand to be leaves instead? Like the text turns into leaves then blows away.

      You can add a leaf texture as a custom texture map to the effect so that the particles would have a form of leaves, but I'm not sure if that would look good, I haven't tried. Anyway for complex particle animations you would be better off with particular plugin😁

I was just trying to see how to make the logo disappear into leaves and then float away haha. Is there any tutorials you can link me to with adding custom texture maps to an effect?

      No problems, I should have one where I do that but I am making background with lines, you could just watch the part where I add custom line shape and get an idea of how to do it with a leaf.

    why is cc composite/solid composite needed at the start?

      To expand the boundaries of the text to the full extent of the composition. But in recent versions cc composite doesn't work, you've got to use solid composite instead

      For a complete animation you need 2 layers, 1 for the particles and 1 for the actual text that will disappear as particles appear

      If it's parent on another layer, the position value has changed, so I couldn't see it. Check the position value :)
