And RIP to David Lindley as well
My cousin Tom Barney on bass!
I fell in love with this music when i heard it when i was 16 yrs young. Im 51 now. Thank Curtis Mayfield and all the musicians for delighting the world with your music✨
I spy the recently departed David Lindley on steel guitar. Amazing where he pops up!
The best singer musician in the world are all dead. Their work lives on.
Lord have mercy, he was the man!! Always loved his music!!!
It's amazing that he released the original song way back in Fall of 1963, with his band The Impressions! Great historically underated singer / songwriter / guitarist of all time!
Great example of a Great man.
From 1988 to 1990. It came on every Sunday. All kinds of guest musicians & bands played on that show. I HATED when it went off the air

The great and genuine David Lindley playing for mr Mayfield and us... thanks so much, Amen
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Curtis Mayfield !!!
You gotta be kidding me this is a band of Top Shelf Jedi players, George Duke, Omar Hakim, David Lindley, Hiram on lead etc.
Classic stuff💯❤️ R.I.P to the late great Mr Curtis Mayfield🙏🏾
He had some hard years for the last of his journey but never lost his faith...
Damn! This is the best thing on TH-cam and no one even knows it. Shame. A star studded session playin', heavey hittin' backup rhythm section with Curtis Mayfield upfront..
One of the best best songwriters ever
The beautiful arrangements the Impressions have done with what they had in the Studio, made them sound LIVE, on record..
So clear and clean and beautiful...Thank you so much...
I have found a new ol, Friend..
God Bless...
Lindley! What the …!? 😄
That howling steel.
What a guy.
He do (did) get around.
Wow this is real Old School classic love it RIP Curtis mayfield you are the best
I like listening to Curtis talk in the beginning. RIP
I never knew much about Curtis Mayfield and I learned a lighting rig fell on him and paralyzed him. Absolutely tragic and it upsets me bc living a life and being able to freely move changing to not being able to freely move and do things is just horrific. 😢
I read this and thought you may what follows my dear friend was in his band this is a story from someone was on the stage when it happened. I was there bro...it was more like the sidefill monitor cabs that landed on him Rocky ..I didn't see it happen because when squall line hit that was a fucking furious muthafucker..I mean and all of sudden...I was stage right getting my ass behind the side fill monitors...after that shit blew in about 30 seconds I see the drummer who had ducked behind his riser and I here him asking somebody on stage left is Curtis ok? And we went where he was I thought the muthafucker dead Rockon.lips were fucking purple eyes rolled back in his head and blood coming out the rim of the leather Kangol beret he just bought. Thankfully because it was an outdoor in Queens I think...and they had 2 ems units and 4 personnel and they got to Curtis quick and I saw insert a tube down his windpipe and started pumping the bulge as they putting him stretcher and put in the ambulance and he's gone. We were going to go from that show to Kennedy International and fly to Frankfurt and do 6 weeks Europe and Japan. Curtis couldn't make it.

Broke his neck and damaged his spine. He was quadriplegic from that day on. His son Robert called me when his dad passed. He had 2 leg amputations after the incident...diabetes ate him alive ...that was a bad day Rockon..just realizing I would hear Curtis play guitar again..not mention his singing..but his guitar playing was special...and loved playing

Yeah..now there was a light rig with I think a 4 par light on it that I saw rocking when the wind came over where Curtis was that was on the stage where he was at but tell you truth there ain't no what broke his neck ..sidefills blown down where he was. He couldn't have a worse spot to be in .they saying Curtis ducking behind the sidefills stage left Rockon but I don't know. Nobody in band or crew wanted talk about that shit ..we thought the muthafucker dead. Our road manager was John Abbey from the UK ..him and his girlfriend Nina Easton owned Ichebon Records in Atlanta who Curtis signed with and John always went to Europe with Curtis..one of his biggest artists..he got us rooms in fucking Manhattan and we all drinking at the bar John walked in with the good news bad news...alive..but ain't never gonna walk or play his guitar again

Damn dude i loved that cat hell of a songwriter and muscian
Bobby
He wrote that and People Get Ready when he was Impressions . Other singer a dude named Jerry Butler..I played the reunion of Curtis and Jerry at Chastain Park Amphitheater..that's probably the best show I ever played in my life..muthafuckers hadn't sung together in 20 years and NO rehearsal they got out there like they did a gig the night before..and Chastain is a fucking beautiful venue
All the Superfly ..he won a Grammy and an Oscar for that ..killing..very percussion oriented

Great uplifting song.
Mister Lindley bringing gorgeous touches of spice to the mix. I miss him.
Fantastic!
Very Cool! RIP David Lindley
amazing! God Bless Him!
The show is just called Late Night not saturday night live. If you like this you need to pull the archives from the show and see the other gems.
Clap your hands! Great footage. Kids today associate this song with Jon Batiste and the 2020 movie "soul".
Jon has a superb 'gospel falsetto' voice, reminiscent of Curtis
Doesn't get any better than this!!❤
The Show was called " Night Music" David Sanborn was the host and it ran for 2 years. I taped most of these shows on VHS.
Absolutely beautiful
GD on keyboards.
Angelic.
Curtis mayfield.muito bom deixou saudades.
Forget to mention the late great David Lindley on pedal steel guitar.
Great Great song
Gee, Sanborn detected a “gospel influence” in Curtis’ music. Amazingly perceptive.
I miss the show. 😅
Bob Marley claimed that Curtis and the impressions were really his first influence.
We are one
Looks to me like the late great David Lindley was also in that house band
