These old Muay Thai fights are so artistic. They start with the ritual at the beginning, the music starts… and the action too. Then, as the fight builds and builds, the music follows suit until the instruments are intertwined in a frenzied rhythm and the fighting has kept pace in lockstep. The sportsmanship, the showmanship, the honor, the skills. THE BEST.

Infact, they decided to go easy on each other because they didnt want to hurt their friend.
However, in the ring Samart said to dieselnoi when they touched gloves to go hard as normal. So he did.

Insane fight, watching it for nth time. It is so amazing to see the technical abilities of both monsters. Samart was just amzing to watch - he used every technique in his repertoir to shut down Dieselnois clinch, while constantly giving on the pressure and counterattacking. Punches, elbows, knees and kicks with amazing timing. The last round he showed extreme flexibility kicking clean Dieselnoi in the head 3-4 times. Dieselnoi showed his attacking knee style, showed even some punching abilities and was clearly a winner, but it seemed like he didnt perform on 100%, more like 90%. Maybe cause theyre friends and he didnt want to destroy Samart completely, but, as others said, the holy grail of muaithai in color, with the original sound, it is always a pure pleasure to rewatch this fight.
I think he cut a little too much weight because people were telling him he wouldn’t make the weight so he tried to make a point but all it did was drain him more than normal
Dieselnoi is the taller guy in the red shorts. Samart is the guy in the blue shorts. They're friends. Samart is often considered the greatest Muay Thai fighter in history. Dieselnoi is considered the most dominant fighter, and he had to retire because there were nobody left to fight. In this fight Dieselnoi was exhausted from the weight cutting.
"Dieselnoi is the taller guy" is pretty funny while at the same time helpful for some. Wonder why he cut an extra 2 plus pounds that he didn't have to. I wonder why Samart waited until the end of the 3rd to start trying to punch the body.
Dieselnoi explains here that he cut below 130 because people were shit-talking that he wouldn't make weight, and his camp would bully Samart into taking a higher weight. Exactly what I think of his eccentric style. And when he locks, he's like a vampire sucking out opponents' blood and breath with his vicious knees.

Given the height difference, this had no business being that close. Dieselnoi is a monster, but Samart is an absolute warrior during that fight, taking knees after knee but still keeping it competitive.

Samart was able to take Dieselnoi's Knees, which means he could have probably taken Jeff Fenech's body shots had he trained properly and was on tip topped condition. Either way seeing this fight colored is just amazing.

I love how the old school fights decision was so quick winner gets his hand raise and he was like meh and they just quickly got out of the ring. Today, fighters jump on the ropes run around doing flips. Then announcer build the anticipation, then the winner runs around some more pound the floor, do a flip and cries.
Samart stance and little movements of his head like synchronized with the music. Knowing they're friends, I think he really enjoy the fight

Both legends and rightly can be named GOATS in the art of fighting. I much prefer Samarat because of his all-round skills whereas Diesel was a dominating figure who used his height to perfection and was like a pitbull to lock you into getting kneed the f%ck.

Saenchai is not of this era. He never fought either of these Legends
LOL Saenchai would've been 1 year old when Samart and Dieselnoi fought. Saenchai only start fighting at the elite level in mid to late 1990s meanwhile Samart retired in 1993 and Dieselnoi retired in 1985.

Good point. He stood in front of him a lot, too, usually he circles to his outside, and teeps and jabs off that, but here he was circlingt to his right because he fought it orthodox vs orthodox, and you wanna stay away from that rear round kick. Very interesting stuff

In my opinion the 80s was the Golden Age of Muay Thai with these 2 being the best (as well as Sagat Petchiyndee)
