    Imo the best use for the dry mash is for rot to make fertilizer, I go on long treks and collect hundreds of berry bushes, unlimited food, high fertility and compost.

    I’d kinda stopped watching a couple of months back, but now I’m finally caught up again. Got horribly sick last week and couldn’t sleep one night, so I ended up just giving up around 4am and decided to come see what I’d missed. Honestly this series was a life-saver, there’s just something so pleasant and calming about watching it, I love your style of commentary and narration.

    I think the standard way to deal with low light, open air cellars is to use a bent pathway for the light. In your case you could just go up a few blocks and then go back the way you came before digging up and through the surface.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's one way to do it, but really due to the way light propagates in Vintage Story (taxicab light), a long, straight tube is just as effective as a bendy one! ;)

    Some trivia on distillation with a pot still like that one for anyone interested...
    For the 2nd run where you start with brandy (~40%ABV) the product would begin at around 80% ABV and drop in concentration gradually throughout the run as the liquid in the pot drops in concentration too.
    You'd usually separate it into small jars and blend the best to drink by taste later. The first few (called heads) are harsh, the middle part (hearts, maybe 3/4 of the product ~70-40%) is nice and the last bits (tails) can kinda taste and smell like wet dog.
    I've not done apple brandy so not sure how different that would be but that's the general case.
    It's not possible to distil pure ethanol from water as there will always be a mix of both boil off. The azeotrope is something like 98% which you can't go over by boiling (at atmospheric pressure). It's to do with the molecules having similar boiling points and liking to be together I believe.
    With a reflux still you can get close to that in one run (from cider) and the last few % of water could be removed by chemical drying process, though idk details about that.
    Incidentally 100% alcohol isn't as efficient disinfectant as 70 or 80 because it evaporates too fast!

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like you could suggest some improvements to Tyron for making distilling work more realistically! Though depending on how complex it would be, it could just frustrate players if it's too nuanced and not clearly spelled out.

    • @nommy8599
      @nommy8599 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Kurazarrh It's actually very realistic already, I was impressed and enjoyed watching that! I agree though, making it more fiddly might become an annoyance.
      There is the potential for explosions though, so that might be fun... Actually I wonder what happens if you let that condenser run dry... You're part cat so must be curious too! ;)
      I'll consider it though, I was going to give the game a try, it looks fun.

    If I had to guess the reason the chisel didn't turn the liquid in the barrel into molten metal while the spyglass did has to do with the spyglass being a mod item. The quench mod probably freaks out a little not knowing what the 3D world item for the spyglass is (if there is one) and turns the water into molten metal by mistake. As I think the world model is supposed to be placed at the bottom of the barrel.

    Coming out of lurk mode to emphatically agree with you about tree seeds. Make them work like fruit trees, only collectable during the autumn season in temperate climates but ridiculously prolific. Are you listening, Tyron? 😂
    You are aware, I know, but some of your viewers may not be, that you can turn off load-bearing dirt blocks in the world settings as well as making jokes about them. I appreciate realistic block physics in theory, but do wish that the world generation didn’t result in quite so many hidden caves covered with only a thin layer of (yes, please, let’s actually have it be load-bearing so we don’t fall to our death) dirt.
    Also… “what’s the purpose” of making alcohol in game? Because people enjoy it! Might as well ask what is the purpose of seashells and 27,836 unique butterflies! (Honestly, in my current survival play through, where we had neither fruit trees nor bees by the first winter, the added shelf life for berries would have been very helpful for keeping our stats up. Too bad all the barrels of fermenting berry juice in our small, crowded early-game cellar/kitchen went up in smoke when I somehow didn’t notice that my torch was aimed at the pie-making table rather than the fire wood in the oven immediately behind it. Luckily grain and vegetables in pottery storage vessels don’t burn, or we might have been surviving on stringy bushmeat all winter … because it seems the game considers both cooking pots- made to sit on a fire- and pottery crocks with cooked meals in them (but not empty ones) to be flammable. (I will take flammable cooking pots over flammable gears and axels though. Much easier to replace. Gears and axels don’t burn despite being made of wood, fat, and resin… at least they didn’t back in 1.16… no, this most recent incident was NOT the first time I accidentally set fire to my base, I just keep finding new ways to do it!)
    Finally, the cooking-show-esque “Now that we have sealed these barrels for a week, let me immediately show you the finished product” was a lovely touch.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha I dunno about only the autumn season... Some concessions need to be made in order to have a playable game!

      I agree that it’s silly that items that are meant to be used around fire are suddenly flammable when a house fire starts. I lost a tool rack full of metal tools before I knew pit kilns could make them disappear. Despite the fact that all those metal tools were created in a 1000 degree forge.

    Kimberlite I've found has a unique way to spawn, where it would spawn similar to halite, but would push the rock layers up higher than they should
    The telltale signs i noticed was finding a different gravel/stone type on the surface but the surface rocks are not the same
    For example, i found an area where the surface stones was andesite, but on the surface there was limestone/bauxite gravel. Need to go check sometime to confirm but from me flying around in creative, it's what i noticed

    • @Kurazarrh

      I usually take my merry time getting to it. It's kind of a late-mid-game or late-game feature given how expensive it is and the fact that you need metric tons of fruit to really do anything, which means either collecting every berry bush you see and/or waiting for fruit trees to grow! It's also just... not useful. So spending time on it in the early to mid game when you have other priorities (linen, mechanical power, metallurgy, not starving) just doesn't make much sense to me!

    Perhaps as a way to introduce a more balanced seed system into the game, seeds could be very prolific but saplings have a chance of dying, similar to fruit trees? In that way you’d be able to harvest a realistic amount of seeds from trees but you wouldn’t be able to cheese the game by growing an entire forest’s worth of wood in one go.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've had someone else suggest having saplings having a chance to die, but from a game perspective, I don't like it. It would make getting wood an absolute chore in a game that already makes everything into a chore! lol Given just how much wood the player needs, I don't see the current wood output to be "cheesing" it, even if the amount of wood we receive is unrealistically large--because the amount of wood we use is equally unrealistic.
