Songbird wasn't a bad guy. Not once in the story was he a bad guy. All he has been doing in the game is to protect Elizabeth and keep her in the tower. Sure, she doesn't want to be in the tower. But he doesn't know that. She never said that she told Songbird she wanted to leave. Songbird just assumed that she was being stolen by Booker. So he's not really a bad guy. He's like a Big daddy. He's a Protector.
The song bird is a big daddy its just he was specially designed for flight not water and yes your right he did not know that Elizabeth wanted to leave so he assumed that the booker was stealing her, also if you noticed how his eyes turn different colors? there are 3 different colors for different moods green is friendly yellow or bright orange is awareness and red is for rage witch means he will attack that goes for the same with regular big daddys. Rest in peace song bird the biggest/cutest bird alive.
Songbird wasn't designed to handle deep water: if the fake beach water at Columbia could crack the glass in his eye after Booker and Elizabeth escape Monument Tower, then he didn't stand a chance in the very deep waters of Rapture.
@@toxicmegacolon69 Fink's laboratory had only animal testers. Elizabeth assumed that animals inside formaline's tanks, were killed because they could not be connected with mechanic body. Songbird could not be human, because human would not be able to move like a bird. Men were Big Daddy's carrier, because that creature was humanoid. That's just common sense.
I love how the Songbird will do anything for Elizabeth. He treats her like a daughter, not an object he has to protect. He looked so at peace when he was dying, simply because he knew Elizabeth was there. He is my favorite character in Bioshock Infinite.
Liv Brown so the Songbird was actually based around the Big Daddy when the person who had visions of the B.D but that person wanted something more monstrous?
I can understand why Elizabeth essentially hated Songbird as she got older, considering she spent her whole life isolated and imprisoned and saw him as being the one who kept her so. Even if he did love her, it cant really take back that she blamed him for years and years of near total isolation and unable to see the world, and she would eventually come to just see him as a machine built by Comstock to keep her imprisoned. But at the same time Songbird did genuinely love and want to protect her and that was all he wanted.
My favorite "songbird scene" is in fact in bioshock 1, if you listen near the start when Jack has just entered Rapture you can actually hear the songbird's final scream as he dies.
I know, even though he was technically an enemy in the end he was just trying to protect Elizabeth like the Big Daddys protect little sisters. It was hardcore for you as the player to get him to attack ships for you, which made it harder to see him go that way.
@The Professor Yeah, I might be a bad guy for the right reasons sometimes, but what Comstock did to deceive Songbird AND torture Elizabeth to indoctrinate her into do what he wanted was just disgusting. I would have made Comstock's end far sower and *infinitely* more painful. Especially for the people he allowed to harm mentally, emotionally and physically in the beginning. Like the waiter with the sodas at one point, it was like I could feel his pain. He was black, bald I believe and if I were to take a guess mid 20's to early 30's. I might be white, but Columbia may look pretty, but I saw a filthy cesspool on a mental level.
15:14 the fact that we see the big daddy and the little sister at the background after the songbird death is a very good one. that show us the songbird is like a big daddy : made to protect the girl no matter what, at the peril of his own life.
I know many people are saying that they wanted a Songbird "final boss fight", but to be honest, what we got was good enough. What I mean is, we see this giant mechanical/possibly part organic bird-like creature flying around the city, we see that he can tear apart buildings with little to no effort, and took out waves of enemies in the final confrontation. How shitty would that be to realize "Oh, so all we had to do was shoot him repeatedly to defeat him" how original is that? I mean, they could've made it work by saying "aim for those giant eyes of his" or maybe take down the wings and let the fall kill him, but as many people have said, Songbird is not THAT threatening, but more saddening, because of what his job is, and listening to those sounds he makes. The way he died was fitting, because as many felt more FOR the character, his death allows them to keep feeling that way. I wish we saw more of him, but with what we got, it's good enough.
Jilliann Pagan Yeah, the glowing eyes of his. Since his design appears to be based after Rapture's Big Daddies, technically they're called "Sensors". Green for friendly, red for hostile and yellow for aware. When he died, you see those sensors burst and you see what appears to be blood oozing out of them before the pressure crushes his vital parts and kills him.
I spent most of the game hating him, yet watching him die, still broke my heart. He panicked then sort of accepted it and realised Elizabeth would be safe which was just beautiful.
When I first saw him I was dreading the inevitable boss fight with him. However the final sequence turned out to be awesome with Songbird as your ally destroying Zeppelins, completely badass moment.
I'm half a year late, but I agree 100%. If he would have been a boss fight, at the end I would have felt like "haha you're dead now", but the way he really died made me feel for him, and I was really emotional, even though I hated him at first
Songbird just wants to protect Elizabeth, She's his chick, he looked after her since she was really young, early in she says that he used to bring her food and books, just like a parent bird looks after their young, he wants to Kill Booker because he took his baby away, the moment she hugs his fingers he calms down almost immediately, you want to calm down an agitated mama bird: show her her babies. and if you notice, he gets really quiet around her, not his high pitched nails-on-chalk-board screeches, their more like soft metallic chirps.
+BlueFireDrakka Correct. He is always in pain whenever Elizabeth is not next to him... hence the much more elevated, terrible, screams and wails. Of agony and misery.
Note to self: If I ever catch myself making my way through a technologically advanced city in the sky looking for a girl to pay off my gambling debts, listen for a whistle and LOOK OUT FOR THE DAMNED BIRD, ok got it Check!
Songbird is, I’m not kidding, just about my favorite video game character in a strange way. I just find him so amazing and interesting and his death actually made me sad. Long shall we hear his magnificent song. That got serious, but he really is one of my top faves.
R.I.P songbird. Even though you tried to kill us during most of the game, you are still the most outstanding bird I have ever seen. May you fly and sing together in heaven with other birds.😭😢😢😭
The problem with Songbird is that there is no drama to him. He is literally a cutscene. There's nothing you can do, so there's no reason to fight. So you just kinda sit there.
SSVCloud I agree completely. I'm not saying we necessarily had to have a big boss fight with the songbird but some degree of player interactivity would be nice. Maybe pulling in airships through tears to slow him down or stealth to help hide our tracks. even if these are scripted events they would add to the illusion of the songbird actually pursuing you.
Well using him in the end is pretty cool. Just wish him being an ally you can command lasted longer than few minutes. You can't really even marvel him because you are also being attacked constantly and have to protect the coils. As for a fight with it outside of cutscenes i really can't see how Booker could even dent it considering it can crash into aircraft and Elizabeths metal tower at fighter jet speed and be totally unharmed. Youd need modern age weapons to kill it or entire Columbian airforce to get a jump on it before it takes fight, once its flies good luck hitting it with artillery and rockets. Avoiding it in actual gameplay and getting insta killed when spotted would have been cool part of some level though, having to hide behind objects as it looks around and sneak behind another thing as it moves to a different location to look for you. Similar how you have to avoid a t rex in jurassic park the game, if you f up and get seen you get killed without being able to do anything.
+Erik Mallas What's wrong with tearing down buildings and attempting to exterminate Booker? He's just trying to protect Elizabeth. You would tear down things if your loved ones were at risk and you never knew where they were 24/7 of the day.
No they weren't. Regular Big Daddies did not have any feelings nor deeper bond with Little Sisters. They were just a bodyguars, which have to protect every Little Sister they summon from a vent and after they are done, they just walking all over the place from one vent to another waiting for picking another one. Individual bond with specific Little Sister was destructive for them. Alpha series from "Bioshock 2", which was programmed only for protecting one individual Little Sister, was going insane, when she was dissapearing (they were even screaming and moacking). Big Daddies were embodimend of slavery and mindlessness. In case of Subject Delta, he regained his free will thanks to Tenenbaum's intervention, while Subject Sigma, because of Rapture's Civil War outbreak, was not even "connected" with Little Sisters.
The fact that I was transported back to Rapture was better than any boss fight I could have asked for this. This game actually made me teary, and as soon as I saw the architecture of Rapture, my jaws dropped, and Django Reinhardt's music poured shivers through my veins.
In the DLC For Bioshock Infinite, it explains that the previous Bioshock games are also another parallel universe. For example Fontaine (Futuristics) = Finkton (Fink Manufacturing). Big Daddies= Songbird. Little sister= Elizabeth. Those are just a few out of many. Again, there are always constants and variables. Also, both alternate realities could communicate through the tears as well, therefore, they both have similar technologies. Anyhow, the DLC links the previous Bioshock games to Infinite. It definitely makes things more meaningful and gives explaination why it is in Colombia rather than Rapture. So I would suggest either playing The DLCs: Burial at Sea Episodes 1& 2.
11:06 , that depth-of-field effect when he stops his punch, i saw them on xbox and it amazed me that the console could pull that off, by far my favourite scene
This may not be signifigant to other people but, I love Songbird. And i noticed that when he isn't trying to kill you, he's actually a sweetheart. Like when *spoiler alert* he's about to kill you after throwing you into a building, when Liz insisted that he take her back, he picked her up and nuzzled her, showing he really cares about Liz. I thought it was kinda sweet.
Everyone says the handymen are the big daddies of infinite but Songbird looks more like them, acts more like them, and even does the glowing eye thing to show mood. Songbird is very clearly the big daddy of infinite, he’s a protector.
My theory for Songbird is he's a Booker Dewitt that drowned and went into a coma during his Baptism. Comstock found him then brainwashed and weaponised him Big Daddy style, cause of course he would never trust such an important task to just anyone. That's why he's stuck in a propetual limbo of protecting and loving the one thing every other version of himself cares about. He's both the constant and the veriable. Booker Dewitt and Comstock yet neither at the same time. The pure soul trapped between selves.
Songbird and the Luteces were my favorite characters in the game... I hated when he died. In the few moments he was actually on our side, I got an overwhelming sense of connection with him. It immediately brought out his true intentions as a character, the safety of Elizabeth.
I played this for the first time with my girlfriend and the C-A-G-E reveal had both of us on our feet and blown away! One of my favorite moments in all of my gaming life.
I really liked how the devs made a Big Daddy that was more of an abusive father rather than a more affectionate father like the Big Daddies before Songbird does love Elizabeth, just like a lot of abusers, but is too simple-minded to understand what love is that its only way of showing it is to keep Elizabeth imprisoned like a caged bird
Before the end of the game, I thought that Songbird was going to be revealed as an alternate version of Booker. And I still have questions about Songbird's origins like: If parts of it were made from a human subject, was said subject just a random person or was he/she a "special" candidate?
Bro....songbird was a true badass...and i petition that we get that written in his watery grave..."songbird...he was a badass" no one can take that away from him.
12:55 does any one else feel like this is songbirds apology and he didn't ever want to hurt Elizabeth he only followed orders and was forced by the song and him helping you two is him trying to redeem himself? or is it just me
How to make a Song bird Step 1: take a big Daddy from rapture Step 2: give him wings Step 3: give him short wolverine claws Step 4: inject subject with tons of steroids and adam Step five: put on new headpiece for the subject Step six: make him the size of Rodan And those are six easy steps on how you can make a Song bird I also forgot to mention replace the feet with giant talons and replace his grunts with a shrieking bird call
Love the subtle analogy in the background tunnel of Rapture of the Little Sister mourning over her dead Big Daddy, while Elizabeth says farewell to the dying Songbird.
The ghost Lady Comstock and that asshole of a handyman, as well as taking out the blimps was enough of a "boss fight" for me. I had to repeat those numerous times.
It's because of his design and pressure accustoms that he died, while it is true that he is made with the same technology as big daddy, his body was already used too the low pressure high in the sky and because of the sudden pressure change his body couldn't handle the strain and thus resulting in his watterie demise
Yeah, he died trying to do his #1 purpose, protect Elizabeth
He merely did his purpose. You cannot fault someone for doing their job, what they are made for.
R.i.p songbird😭 2013 to 2007
The song bird is a big daddy its just he was specially designed for flight not water and yes your right he did not know that Elizabeth wanted to leave so he assumed that the booker was stealing her, also if you noticed how his eyes turn different colors? there are 3 different colors for different moods green is friendly yellow or bright orange is awareness and red is for rage witch means he will attack that goes for the same with regular big daddys. Rest in peace song bird the biggest/cutest bird alive.
it was his purpose he was like a animale and the closest thing to him was elisabeth like a pet so he did his job as a protechtor
The fact his eye turns green right before he dies still breaks my heart, it’s like he’s saying goodbye to her, one final time.
Songbird wasn't designed to handle deep water: if the fake beach water at Columbia could crack the glass in his eye after Booker and Elizabeth escape Monument Tower, then he didn't stand a chance in the very deep waters of Rapture.
this would be really sad if you imagine songbird's cry is him crying out of elizabeth to come back.
+HetaliaCalifornia I was think the same and um R.I.T.M.B.S
Rest In The Most Beautiful Song
*Happiness noises*
Never thought a giant robo- monster- somehow-man-bird-thing's death would make me feel so sad... Love the Game
Well it is a bioshock game
Actually. In "Burial at the Sea - episode two" it was revealed Songbird was a bird, which brain and organs were transplanted to a robot suite.
When is that stated?
@@toxicmegacolon69 Fink's laboratory had only animal testers.
Elizabeth assumed that animals inside formaline's tanks, were killed because they could not be connected with mechanic body.
Songbird could not be human, because human would not be able to move like a bird. Men were Big Daddy's carrier, because that creature was humanoid. That's just common sense.

all because as a little girl Elizabeth reattached his breather to his mask to save its life.
23gameoverlord yeah so cute ^-^
Liv Brown so the Songbird was actually based around the Big Daddy when the person who had visions of the B.D but that person wanted something more monstrous?
23gameoverlord yes, I think so. I know that he was based off of a Big Daddy.
Liv Brown its to bad that we only got to see Songbird instead of actually of an actual fight.
Its like a big daddy THAT CAN FLY, HOLY SHIT.
That's what I said when I first saw him.
I'm going to set the Songbird Whistle as my ringtone when my mom calls me.
Tony Tony Chopper
aw cute
Why not mother-in-law?
Patrick Harrison Because my mother would still be more terrifying than her.
Ouch.
Patrick Harrison Neil is that you...
am i the only one who felt bad for the songbird?
me 2
ifill bad 4 him
ImaGuest I feel bad for him as well all he's trying to do is protect Elizabeth and trying to repay her for saving his life
ImaGuest, I was really Sad seeing Songbird die, I feel Bad for him too

I'm sure i've seen one showing all the songbird scenes and mentioning it.
I watched a video of it, but I couldn't hear it.
Whaaat, in which part?
@Diffy Dude Yea it wasn't planned. People interpret a lot, as usual.
that wouldn't make sense as by the time jack arrives rapture is in ruins and not as pristine as when you drown songbird
Its like a big daddy! His eyes are yellow when neutral. And red when aggressive
I love songbird. He's one of my most favorite characters in the BioShock games.

Well, Songbird and Elizabeth are supposed to be alternates to a big daddy and a little sister. "Constance and variables."
When I first saw Songbird tear his head inside from the elevator doors I freaked out and emptied out a whole clip in it
Who didn't?
i had a mod that let me have weapons from other games and i shot it with the rocket launcher from halo
and you know this how?
+Ellendawnable Me.
Cydonia I would have used the Davy Crocket from gmod

3:46 The string music in the Bioshock series is absolutely amazing. The violent screeching makes that scene *infinitely* more intense.
I like the way he screeches, like a metal bird or something.
+BlueFireDrakka Correct. He is always in pain whenever Elizabeth is not next to him... hence the much more elevated, terrible, screams and wails. Of agony and misery.
That last scene is beautiful. The Little Sister crying over the dead Big Daddy is a nice touch, mirroring Elizabeth's current situation with Songbird.
What kind of person jerks of to a Star Wars droid
I am that kind of person
Why is the Songbird so damn awesome, yet terrifying at the same time?
Songbird...I'm not the one to cry quickly but dammit, that death scene...aaah ;n; feels!
Yeah, I felt his bidding of farewell.... But what happened, did he broke his eye and got a major headache or something?
Milche Sarreal He was crushed under the water pressure. Rapture is pretty deep down, after all.
+Twilightmia It's worse in slow motion set to 0.5.
ㅠㅠ
The end of the Songbird was very saddening... I loved the songbird though, he was pretty badass.
i agree.Rest In Peace SongBird
8:33 Look at him, all excited and happy, thinking he's found Elizabeth. Here, let me help you wrench out my bleeding heart.
We need the wrench from Bioshock to wrench his poor heart out... Problem, do you know where we can find his body under the sea?
this is one of the few deaths in a game that really saddens me.. :(
There’s something terrifying about that automaton at 0:36 knowing that the songbird is nearby
Am I the only one who thinks Songbird is cute?
Fawkes no
Casspir heck no the big guy/girl/thing is adorable.
Casspir WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH U LITTLE BITCH IT MURDERS . alTHOUGH
Casspir Nope
Won one on Ebay today. First reaction: "wow, my cute litte songbird is mine". So no, you're not the only one^^

I find the last scene one of the saddest and most touching moments in gaming history.
Yeah, I felt bad too.
How did he manage to survive his first plunge in the water in the early game?
***** It wasn't as deep as the second. It was just a beach, while Rapture is at the bottom of the ocean.

Elizabeth : AGHHHH !!!!
Poor Songbird. It's ok buddy, you'll live forever on my shoulder in Team Fortress 2. :3
Songbird and Elizabeth are my favourite characters, songbird's so sweet ;w;

Yep XD
+Erik Mallas What's wrong with tearing down buildings and attempting to exterminate Booker? He's just trying to protect Elizabeth. You would tear down things if your loved ones were at risk and you never knew where they were 24/7 of the day.

Thanks. It's just a shame that nobody ever texts me.

13:14 he sounds so happy when she asked songbird to protect her
0:08 me when trying to talk to a girl
O.O
As for ne, it's my favorite moment of the game because I dont know why. It's the best intro possible between Elisabeth and our Booker.
Honestly same
Anyone realize that songbird kinda puts her life in danger more often the trying to save it,what with his....destructive....nature
I swear i can hear Demoman saying "Medic" at 4:01
I hear demoman too
actually it sounded like demoman said meem
DEMOMAN, CATCH *Throws medkit*
Holy shit I can hear it too.
*WAT*

what? I don't see a big daddy anywhere,do you mean the figure

Never thought of how subtle the foreshadowing at 4:50 is
This Songbird thing reminds me of the item givers in Metroid. I like both of their designs.
He DOES look a lot like the Chozo...

You know that's not a bad theory after all, in some sketches songbird is pictured as half man half machine, so it wouldn't be a reach
Ahem *Points at BioShock Infinite’s DLCs*
imagine this game in vr
The tower escape. Holy hell, I would shit myself.
I probably be falling on my ass
an adventure to the bathroom
Imagine the orbital lobotomy scene in Burial at sea in VR
@@MisterJohnDoe oh god don't put that thought in my head!
THE FEELS ON THE BUS FO ROUND AND ROOOOOOOOUND. 💔
Songbirds a great character. To this day, still feels more like a force of nature rather than another enemy
songbird, my beloved
He was the best boi!
Zooey Deschanel would make a great Elizabeth if there was a Bioshock Infinite movie
Songbird, first flying Big Daddy, worlds biggest pigeon, "protector" of the Lamb.
Songbird and the Luteces were my favorite characters in the game... I hated when he died. In the few moments he was actually on our side, I got an overwhelming sense of connection with him. It immediately brought out his true intentions as a character, the safety of Elizabeth.
Songbird kind of cute when hes not trying to kill you.
That thing's shrill cry made me shiver. ._.
11:36 when u going to get the enemy's flag but then the pro player takes it back
Does anyone know how to fly and go through walls in Bioshock Infinite, not the Other Bioshocks, only Infinite?
Step one: Cheat/Hack and ruin the best game in the world along with its predecessors
Stop two: Stop playing
didn't expect to see you here
I mean, you're the explainer here, so
Saddest death in video game history for me tbh. Such a badass. He legit had 1 job and nobody else could have done a better job than him.
I want to know more about the songbird but I can't find anything like that.
read the wiki
I remember as a kid with the last scene I literally fucking shed tears for songbird, all he wanted to do was protect Elizabeth his only family😔.
How big/tall is Songbird?
60 feet (that's 18 meters)
Cool Thanks
I am taller than song bird lol cuz am godzilla am 300
You da king!
songbird is my pet
I hear Songbird every time I open and close my toilet door... Shit is squeaky as fuck!
I played this for the first time with my girlfriend and the C-A-G-E reveal had both of us on our feet and blown away! One of my favorite moments in all of my gaming life.
What a bad bord. Everybody gangsta till he turns into songfish
I really liked how the devs made a Big Daddy that was more of an abusive father rather than a more affectionate father like the Big Daddies before
Songbird does love Elizabeth, just like a lot of abusers, but is too simple-minded to understand what love is that its only way of showing it is to keep Elizabeth imprisoned like a caged bird
Songbird/ Human Breathing/ weakness can’t be in high pressure water
Rip song bird 1912-1960
The atmosphere of this game when I first played it was phenomenal, definitely replaying the Bioshock series now
Before the end of the game, I thought that Songbird was going to be revealed as an alternate version of Booker.
I love the way his scream turns into the music when he destroys Elizabeth's statue.
For some reason i always imagine when songbird is screaming he's playfully saying "LIZBETH"
Goddamn it, what a noisy bird. I have a headache.
But it's tooooo cute & cuddly!
He was never an enemy. Just a guardian.
I want Songbird as my guardian...
He's no guardian. He's a warden.
auranknight Deep
Songbird was just an overprotective dad
Change my mind
I tell my 4 year old to be good or the song bird will get him...He listens ha ha
I don't think Booker could have survived the fall if the debris hadn't broken the surface beforehand.
Well he survived that without his arm getting ripped off at 3:44 so wouldn't really put so much thought on realism into it.
12:55 does any one else feel like this is songbirds apology and he didn't ever want to hurt Elizabeth he only followed orders and was forced by the song and him helping you two is him trying to redeem himself? or is it just me
I dressed up as the Songbird today. I won a costume contest, but was called to the stage as "Bonko the Anteater". I have no idea.
Quick son! Check the cameras! Make sure Foxy is- nevermind, its a fucking bird!
oh god i hate myself for this comment
Good you left the fan base
Godd Howard Yeah
No...Just no.
Stalker Xenomorph anyway its autistic the fan art is scarier than the game
Awwww my cutie Baby Songbird!! Whyyyy😭😭😭😭
R.I.P. Songbird :(
Everyone will be in your favor
Like this if you agree that there should be a Songbird V2
There can only be the one and only Songbird! :(
We will miss him - the most epic enemy in any game ever
iDaxter So cute too ^_^ Imma bird fan
How to make a Song bird
Step 1: take a big Daddy from rapture
Step 2: give him wings
Step 3: give him short wolverine claws
Step 4: inject subject with tons of steroids and adam
Step five: put on new headpiece for the subject
Step six: make him the size of Rodan
And those are six easy steps on how you can make a Song bird I also forgot to mention replace the feet with giant talons and replace his grunts with a shrieking bird call
15:30 if memory serves right....no way is that a little sister crying at a fallen Big Daddy?!
Omg... The song, beyond the sea playing in the end... It brang a flood of memories from this masterpiece. 😭
1:17 translation: Oh Shit he's coming let's move!
Love the subtle analogy in the background tunnel of Rapture of the Little Sister mourning over her dead Big Daddy, while Elizabeth says farewell to the dying Songbird.
Songbird is like yandere Chan Elizabeth is it's senpai
The ghost Lady Comstock and that asshole of a handyman, as well as taking out the blimps was enough of a "boss fight" for me. I had to repeat those numerous times.
where do you think the songbird goes when he isn't attacking things?
what do you suppose his nest looks like? probably a huge-ass broken down building
***** omfg made my day i couldnt help imagining that
one of the many things that cannot be unthought
if you're an artist maybe you could draw it and post it
cool, i like to make people laugh
I think he is searching for Elizabeth all the time. (i know it was like 3 months ago)
Songbird was a design made in Rapture, you would think he would be able to survive in the extreme pressures of water. Poor songbird :(
It's because of his design and pressure accustoms that he died, while it is true that he is made with the same technology as big daddy, his body was already used too the low pressure high in the sky and because of the sudden pressure change his body couldn't handle the strain and thus resulting in his watterie demise
I REALLY LOVE SONGBIRD!!! :'(
I legitimately cried when Songbird died and I am definitely not crying right now I'm just cutting onions
