Ever wonder how your radio’s Software version actually gets updated?
In todays video, I’ll show you step by step how we reflash your OEM radio’s software update.
Unfortunately this software file can only be obtained if you have access to TIS.
I cannot and will not be providing these files.

Software updates to the radio should not cost anything simply allow owners to download the file and do their own.

I have a 2014 limited whit 90 k. I just find out even though it lights up when we insert the flash drive doesn’t come out on the radio screen any advice appreciate 😊
jaime l it’s either the wrong format/file in the flash drive or an issue with the radio. 🤷🏼♂️

How did you do it? I tried to, and it didn't allow me to. It says my subscription level wasn't granted access to direct download. Which subscription did you get?

Hello, I have a 2016 Toyota Camry and I have this software version 17TD2ME-EA20. Is there an update for this version on the site?
Great video! My 2019 rav4 is stuck with mirror link/ mirror cast and the dealer in my country says they don’t do software updates. My head unit model is 17TDT1ZA-CA01 Does the web portal have software updates for non USA vehicles?
For software updates you will need the actual very expensive year membership.
My Toyota Camry lets me do the Radio software update myself. I just downloaded the update onto a flash drive and plan to follow the instructions

Excellent question Sir, it’s not always the same but I would say anywhere from every 6 months to once a year.

Is there a way to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius for outside air on the 4Runner.
Someone told me you need techstream but I see an option under menu, settings and then units of measurement. I click Celsius but it does not change anything
You should be able to do it with Techstream only.
I have a 2016 Tacoma and my stereo sound went completely out it started on the front speakers and in time it progress to every speaker. Does anyone have experience with this problem

On the TIS will the standard be the program to update the radio and navigation, or do l need the professional?
All models included, but beware that those software updates are only available with the pricey anual membership fee.

I see there was a navigation update showing as well. Does this update the Navagation system with newer maps? If not how does that get completed on a 2021 4Runner? Thanks LOVE YOUR Videos

@@VikingsGarage I was able to go the toyota page looking for the updates for my 2021 4Runner SR5 PRM and the newest one available updated the Audio to 1225 and Nav to 1225. The maps howerver are still for 2020. Will i need to go to a dealer?

Hi from The Netherlands. I hope you can help me. I own a brand new RAV4 Hybrid AWD. On the new 10’5 inch Panasonic 86140-42L00 head unit AM is not present, it is not listed. It only has FM, DAB+ and internet radio trough a connected phone. I hate what Toyota did as we still have many stations on AM. So I understand there is TIS. Can you see if AM is in some software update so I can change the software? For what I know all these new 10’5 inch Panasonic head units are basically the same. And last but not least, is there still an AM antenna present in the fin on the roof? I hate it when companies make decisions for you! Kind regards, Willem, Hekelingen, The Netherlands.

@@VikingsGarage Thank you very much, much appreciated! In the meantime I have found out that in the Australian versions of the current RAV4, that has a specs wise similar Panasonic head unit, all the specs are the same apart from AM reception that the Australian version indeed still has. All other geatures are the same. So as far as I can imagine, my head unit has to be completely reprogrammed as there will be no updates available. Point is that the general public in Europe simply don’t care, so updates for getting AM back in EU head units will not be issued at all. As for compatibility with European standards, a total reprogramming will be necessary OR a replacement with an Australian head unit. If I had known this before, it would have meant a deal breaker, that important this is for me. Oh, and last but not least, I can’t find out if an AM antenna is still present in the fin on the roof, if not that will have to be addressed as well together with another wire harness. What a mess! Hello, I hope you can help me, my 2020 Highlander has never had its software updated since where I take it to do its maintenance they tell me that they don't know how to do it, could I do this myself?
You can, be subscribing to Toyota’s TIS… the full very expensive subscription.

Does updating the software solve the problem of the system randomly rebooting? And is it necessary to do the gracenote update as well?

It’s a shame that the consumer is not able to do it on their own. It’s almost border line a flaw in my opinion. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted!!
So if I have a 23 Camry with a valid warranty, is the software update free of charge. I just had my 1 year service today and they didn’t mention doing it.
If there is one available, yes. No software available for a 2023 Camry, 2023 are all up to date.

Great vid, 2023 Rav 4 Limited AWD owner here, is there any way around the TIS, im just an owner not a dealer? The sound on my vehicle is non existent, when I try to adjust the volume from the volume knob or the steering wheel nothing happens. I've tried everything from rebooting the multimedia system, to doing a full reset. Nothing seems to work.
You need a radio Sir.
Pioneer had a bad batch of them.
@@VikingsGarage I should have mentioned this specifically occurred after an attempted theft of my vehicle, where lots of things were unplugged/damaged and we're later repaired. A system reset was required in order to reactivate all the remote connect features after it being reported stolen in the app which ironically disabled the tracking (luckily I tracked it before reporting it stolen). I do remember it happened at some point after disabling all the remote connect features and disabling data transmission from the dcm for privacy reasons before the theft. When I had reactivated the remote connect features and data transmission the radio started working again. I get the impression it is more of a software related issue than hardware but i might be wrong.
Does the software update address the channel limits on the 4-Runner (other cars?) with SiriusXM? My channels stop at 229 (I think) even though XM goes up to like 500. That ticks me off BIG TIME.

What does something like this cost?? I know dealers and areas are different, but generally speaking, what are we looking at cost wise if we were to come into the dealer JUST to have this update done?? I appreciate your time and help.

Minimum $150, that's what it cost to diagnose something. I just had my 4runner diagnosed at toyota and that's what they charged just to look at it.
It sounds about right, but I would check with the advisor. I believe they usually charge 1 hour. The update on my vehicle took 5 minutes(the actual update) but they usually take about 30 minutes solid.
@@VikingsGarage that’s crazy. Think they’d have a flat rate for something like this 🤷♂️ yeah right lol course they didn’t do it like other manufacturers and allow it to upgrade on its own, but at least my trucks still runnin strong and will be much longer than some others

What happens if you hit the check for update button?
Nothing really, it will never find an update unless you have one in a flash drive plugged in.

Just a note: If you have a 48hr subscription to TIS you won't be able to download the files. You'll get an error saying you need to have a higher ($$) subscription plan.

Probably needs a radio by now.sometimes they freeze to the point ,you can’t no longer update them.

Just verified from toyota that I do indeed need my stereo system replaced. Faulty system they said. Good thing it is covered under warranty for me 😂😅

It's a shame that y'all profit off something that's for the better of the car, i bet if u didn't work there you would have our point of view, what are we paying for ? for you to perform 3 steps that's what they pay you to do. Its so tacky of Toyota. That's like Apple or Android making us pay to update our IOS yall would raise hell if that happened
how can we update and make our navigation usable? is this part of the scam of making people pay for stuff after their car is sold?? i lost a lot of respect for toyota when they started charging people for remote start etc. i paid A LOT of money for my car. Terrible look and business decision IMHO
Can I buy this as I went to two of the NY dealerships and they don’t know anything about it!!! Then most Lexus dealers loose money by not knowing anything about their own cars and SUVs.But if you go to a Mercedes-Benz dealer every sales person is extremely knowledgeable.
You can buy it, but the cost ain’t worth it. A 24 hour pass won’t allow downloads.
