Don’t let that frustrate you, Ryan. I know a lot of “PE guys” that have become successful administrators. As former coaches, Brett and I have had to work really hard to overcome certain stereotypes. Keep learning, and keep looking for opportunities to serve on your campus.
Ryan The new thing for assistant principals is now to be instructional leaders. You may have a hard time coming out of the PE role. I just went onto interviews and I’m trying to break out of my current role as well. Focus on instructional strategies. Good luck
One thing that I know a lot of interns help with is tracking and responding to student attendance. This is a huge piece of what assistant principals have to do, and it can be very time-consuming. Helping your admin team with attendance will not only provide much-needed assistance, but it will also give the aspiring administrator some valuable, realistic experience.
Thanks for stopping by, Leslie! We are glad you found some value here. Where are you in your leadership journey? Are in an administrative role? Are you pursuing one?
@@TheNewSchoolLeader I’m pursing an administrative role. I submitted a video for an associate principal position that the district is using as the first step in the selection process. I’m waiting to hear back to see if I made it to the second round which will be an in person interview.
Fired up about this video. I hope it helps someone out there that has been struggling to take that next step.

@@landonbarnes838 Thanks, Landon! It's been 17 years since we started working there, but it still seems like it was just yesterday. Time flies!

@@kimberlycorrine That’s awesome, Kimberly! Best of luck with your interview!
Wow thanks. This is helpful. I have been told I am just a PE teacher and do not know much about instruction. So I am learning

Let's talk about the Question of the Day! What is one thing that aspiring administrators can do this year to help their administrative team?
