      I think I have boomer tastes in guns. 😁 But seriously-something about a well-engineered, solidly built piece metal is just… satisfying. I still have polymer guns. But something special about legit heavy metal. I checked out your channel… apparently I subbed you at some point… you’ve got some cool stuff I’ll have to look at again. Thanks and take care!

    Cool collection. The P89 made me smile because it brought back memories of my late older brother. In 1990 he had just retired as a police Major in our Capitol city, and taken over as Chief of a 20 officer department in a city along the interstate that was plagued with drug activity and some associated violence. I was running my own firearms training school at the time, so I started doing training for his department, and became their only investigator as well. They still used S&W revolvers, but most of the rank and file felt they needed a semi-auto pistol. However, the city flatly said there was no money for new weapons.
    One day, while rummaging through a closet that served as an evidence locker, we found a fully automatic M3 Grease Gun. No one could say where it had come from, just that it had been in the closet a long time. I spoke to some dealers, and one was keenly interested in buying it. To make a long story short, we decided to trade the M3 toward new handguns. We had to choose something serviceable but within a tight budget. We chose the Ruger P89 in stainless, and got the version with the safety. We got 24 pistols, three magazines each, and a new duty holster for each, all in exchange for that one M3. We settled on the Federal 9BP-LE 115 grain +P+ load as our duty round. Those Rugers and that ammo served the city well for more than 10 years and a number of shootings, which the Ruger handled decisively..
    My brother, always a bit casual on firearms maintenance, wore a uniform and carried one of the Rugers although he had come to prefer Glocks. He thought it was better for morale to carry what his men carried. When he would occasionally think about cleaning the Ruger, he would remove the grips, and put it in the top rack of his dishwasher and run it. Then he would take it out, and spray Rem-Oil all over it, wipe it down, and call it good. I was appalled, but his Ruger always worked. You could drive nails with those pistols, which is what you need if you are going to hand them out to cops. Good times.

    • @HipsterTactical
      @HipsterTactical  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! I love hearing your stories, man. Sorry to hear about your brother-but happy to hear the P89s served his department well. I may quote you-I’m writing the review of the P89 now. Its such a good pistol. As you said… nail driver. Im not sure what expectations I had when I bought mine. But it exceeded all of them. The P-Series Rugers have this “halo” of assumed mediocrity that sorta haunts them, I think; but this P89 is anything but a compromise. So, that’s kinda the premise of the article. At the end of the day, my personal preferences may slightly favor a 92. But man, the P89 hangs in there with all of the best DA/SA service pistols from that era. I’m almost offended mine only cost $350. Almost.

    • @PPISAFETY
      @PPISAFETY ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HipsterTactical In my experience, quite a lot of the P-Series guns reputation for mediocre accuracy came from the polymer framed models like the P95. My favorite of the metal bunch was the P90DC in .45 ACP. We used to call it the "Poor Man's SIG P220". I bought mine as an exemplar gun for a wrongful death civil case where I served as an expert witness. It was my usual custom to sell such guns after the case was over, but that P90 was so good that I kept it for years. I don't leave firearms in vehicles, but if I did it would have been the perfect truck gun.
      As for my older brother, he had a good run, making it to 79 years old, and dying during a woods walk with his dog at his mountain retirement home. If you have to go, that's the way to do it. Be well.

    Beautiful collection! I see you have true taste unlike most gun collectors nowadays. The 4506 has to be the smoothest .45acp on earth. I polished mine to a mirror finish and sold it once I got my 645. I was lucky years ago to score a like-new in box 86' Walther P5 for 530 clams on my birthday, made the same year I was born. The gun shop luckily didn't really know it's worth.
    It's very rare to see a collector who buys fine classics, not the typical junk everyone else buys. Cheers to you, sir! Loved the video.

      @HipsterTactical  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much, my friend! Yes... there's something endearing and satisfying about the classics. That's pretty cool you were able to get that P5 for such a good price... man, the P5 is a fantastic shooter. It was the same story with my P88C--the gun shop didn't know what they had. And I agree on the 4506. It's the ultimate "big .45." Thanks so much for watching and for comment! Take care.

      Thank you so much for watching and for commenting! Yeah, I like the classics. I guess I gravitate to guns I remember seeing in movies and television when I was growing up in the '80s and '90s. Glocks are fine. They're well made and reliable. I just think they're more difficult to shoot well than so many other options. YMMV, of course. And I've come to appreciate the peace of mind the DA/SA system provides. In any case... thanks so much for the sub.
      As for what's to come...

    Thank you so much for this review. I love your collection. Almost all your guns are all metal, hammered, and without those idiot picatinny rails that detract from that classical rounded look and feel. Cultured guns, for gentlemen of culture, from a classical age.
    Oh and congratulations on the AR. With what's coming down the pipeline, you will likely need it, unfortunately.
    Only guns left to have would be a shotgun, and as far as handguns, a 1911 of course.
    Again thanks, I was transfixed for every minute.

    Very nice collection!! You have a very varied and interesting bunch of guns. I have a pretty good collection that I have acquired over 45 years or so. Like you I have more handguns than long guns., I made a decision years ago due to my having been in Military as an Army MP and also a civilian LEO that service type handguns were my biggest interest. You have some I have, and several I don't and some I have had and don't have anymore, some regrettably. As a collector I would give you this advice. If you like a gun don't get rid of it, you almost always will regret it. If you have one you hate, ditch it, you will never regret it. Give some you take for granted a try, they sometimes become favorites. You have a collection already you can be proud of. Thanks for showing. I enjoyed the video. Not a threaded barrel or a pair of Suppressor height sights in the bunch, Bless you my son!!
