  • We review a 2015 bottling of the Longrow Peated from our favorite distillery Springbank.
    We forgot to mention for reference that heavily peated Longrow is about 50-55 ppm, “medium” peated Springbank is about 7-8 ppm, and Hazelburn is unpeated.

    Who needs Narbe when you have a dry erase board? lol. Enjoying the solo videos gentlemen, always great content. Cheers!

    Mike, I enjoyed the passion and accuracy of your flavor and sensation descriptors in this review. In many instances, I found myself laughing and nodding in agreement with your analysis. Keep up the good work! Cheers from New Mexico USA!

    I like the individual reviews both of you are doing. It's totally an independent opinion from each of you. But certainly keep the "Duo" going with those epic history bottles and others. Great review.

    Excellent review Mike and I completely agree. It's very underrated and has been for ages. It's very spirit driven but this is Springbank spirit for Pete's sake - with extra peat to boot! I also agree with you that this is better than any of the stupidly chased after Longrow Reds. Quality, solid, review. WT

    Surely every producers distillation is higher than 2 with a fraction of the spirit being distilled three times as they put the foreshots and feints back in the spirit still and that liquid has therefore been distilled more than twice. A double distilled in reality is nearer 2.2 to 2.4 depending what the cut point is on the spirit still.

    I assume we'll still get to see you two together doing reviews on joint-custody bottles as well as individual reviews. That's a win-win!

    Great review of an often overlooked entry level single malt and good to see you flying solo. Your board reminded me of the old Jennifer Anniston shampoo advert where she said something like “And now for the science bit” 😄. Keep up the good work and hope to see you both doing a review again soon, how about a Brora?

      @@maltreviews Good news is the most recent batch from a Mr Welish Torro, I'm told is outstanding. My 2019....well it was spirit forward...and a bit much for me.

    Gotta bring back the homey Narbe at least for those special occasion bottles. For me I'm done with Longrow Peated. Up to 2017 these were $48 in my area. Then 2 years later went to $69 and now if you're lucky to find it min $82. The bottling I tasted from 2016 had similar earthy notes mentioned here but not that sweet to me or Earth shattering. How about this. Port Charlotte 10 year vs. this Longrow Peated? For me I'd rather the PC because I'd have some money left over.

      I could not agree more Dean. Price on this is becoming a huge problem. Yes, planning on a blind soon of Ardbeg 10, Longrow Peated, PC10, and a couple other entry level peateds. Cheers! 🥃

    I'm looking to buy my 1st peated scotch bottle, and I'm a huge fan of Springbank 10. Mike, would you recommend this Longrow Peated over Lagavulin 8, Ledaig 10 and Ardbeg 10? I don't mind the small extra cost, I just want the best one.

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, if you love Springbank, then absolutely. If possible, through a friend perhaps so you can obtain a sample and spend some time with it, I would highly recommend trying to sample the others when possible to gradually over time develop some knowledge of the other distillery house styles in comparison as part of your overall whisky journey and edification. Cheers!

      @triktrak_1451 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maltreviews Thanks- I appreciate your personal response. My friend in the UK brought me a sample of Classic of Islay 2017, an independent bottling he believed to be a young Lagavulin, and I loved it. (So I love peat.) There is a fantastic whiskey bar near me which would likely have all of these drams. But it would take a couple visits just to sample these 4 (plus I was considering Ardbeg Uigeadail, but it sounds as if the Ardbegs lean minty?)... so that I don't walk back to my car snockered out of my gourd!
