เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 ธ.ค. 2014
Whisky is our hobby and passion. We are determined to try as many whiskies as we can in our journey to find the perfect malt. We have been collecting and drinking whisky seriously for about 15 years now and we are excited to share our opinion on the bottles we have in our collection. Hope you enjoy the journey with with us through these TH-cam video reviews. Cheers!!!

Highland Park 12 1982 Release / Ferraretto Import
I’ve seen a Sutti import like this without the pure malt, it also states 57 GL for the strength. Very dark juice. Would that be in the same ballpark of quality?
Had a bottle of this back in 2016 when I could find it, $250 then, cant find now. Just purchased a bottle of the Noces Dor Sublime, advertised as 30,40,50,60 yr blends, hope it delivers.
The key with the early White Horse bottles is air and time for the palate to match and exceed the nose--and for the juice to reach its full potential. From my experience of hearing stories, most whisky fans don't air the juice out enough and miss the best it can offer. For example, one of the several types of 1988 Lag 16 bottles I have is a 1988 Swiss import version (with code LLJA 0000503 on the rear label--before they added the "Classic Malts" branding rear label in very late 1988--and this LLJA 0000503 code represents a mid 1988 bottling). For this bottle as example, I spent 2 years slowly drinking it down to a 1/2 bottle fill level, but the juice never went to the higher scores but stayed in the 90-91 range for most of that 2 year process. So then I let that bottle sit for a year untouched at 1/2 fill. Only then did it become transcendent on the palate where I now give it a 93 score on most days (92 on off days). In fact, the palate on this fully aired out bottle now scores better than the nose (which is what I like most since it's the worst when the nose gets a drinker excited only to be let down on the palate). This process does this because the fruits and many complex candies and toffees and custards need the peat and farm to fade to the background so that they can expose themselves on the palate to achieve a fuller and more complex experience. Unless this is done, the real magic will stay partly to mostly hidden on the palate. I don't fear the conventional wisdom of, "it will go flat with too much air because 43%". The early years of the Lag 16 (as old school early 1970s distillate) have enough density of oils in the juice to stay vibrant with tons of air in spite of 43%. My default now with new Lag 16 bottles is to pour off about 1/2 bottle into sample bottles (37.5cl or 20cl or at minimum 10cl size bottles) and then leave the 1/2 fill level primary bottle to sit for 6 months before doing a test. If I don't get the magic to come out with that after letting a pour breathe for 30-60 minutes after pouring, then I let the bottle sit again for another 6 months---rinse repeat until the magic comes out from hiding. Once I get the magic to come out on the palate, then I enjoy so that I don't "waste" this great juice by failing to air it out properly. When that magic "aired" juice is getting low, I then take the new juice from the sample bottles that I originally poured off and start the "airing" process all over again. I always have an "airing" bottle percolating so that some magic juice is always ready to play on the palate. Once the Lag 16 gets to the 1992-1993 bottling years and newer, there is less magic in the juice to come out and 92 is the top score I can ever get (up until around 2006 or so with some import batches), but I still follow this same process with all my Lag 16 bottles from 1988 all the way to my newest bottle which is 2022 because the most magical notes that the lag 16 juice has will only come out with lots of air. My favorite year of the newer juices is 2018, because the bottle batches I have add some nice tobacco cigar notes to the fruits/candies/toffees, unlike the stuff from the 1990s or even the early 2000s. The best score I can get from the bottling years 2010 to 2020s is only 90-91 since the juice just doesn't have the horse power left in it like the old days (without the airing process the scores for 2010 to 2020s years 87-89, but the airing process can add another 2 points potentially). I even let one of my 2018 bottles sit at 1/4 bottle fill level for 2 years to see what happened---and it stayed at its best even after that in spite of not being "old school" juice. Anyway, FWIW, this process as described is the solution for improving the palate. Yes, it's a bit of a high maintenance process, but it's fun doing it because of its ethereal and almost magical nature. By doing this process, the early years of the Lag 16 is the best Islay juice for the money on the planet IMO.
This bottle of yours with "Parchment" front label is at latest a 1992 release (but probably earlier than 1992). 1993 was the final year of the "Parchment" front label at Springbank. HOWEVER, in 1993 the rear label became a "jagged label" instead of what was a Parchment rear label in prior years. Your bottle still has the Parchment rear label so it's earlier than 1993. 1993 is also the year of the Hedley G. Wright bottlings, but the Hedleys were bottled with both a "jagged edge" front AND rear label. 1994 is the 1st year the 25 year old switched to the fancy red/beige/silver colored "jagged edge" front label (and the Red stencil wooden presentation box). And this "jagged edge front label" version of the 25 ended in 1997. The way to know if there is a year/rotation code is to put bright light in front of the bottle while looking from behind through the side glass to see the illuminated back side of the front label where some bottlings have the year and bottling rotation numbers printed. There are also some bottlings where the code is printed on the back side of the REAR label (same lighting and viewing process as just noted EXCEPT doing it with the rear label). It takes some practice to get the lighting and distance just right (like using a magnifying glass). This form of bottling code at Springbank bottlings started in 1993 and ended in 1999--and not all bottlings during this 1993-1999 period have a code, which is not surprising given the inconsistency with which Springbank seemed to be producing bottlings. 2000 was the 1st year Springbank started putting black ink dot codes on the glass (both with Springbank and with Lagavulin 16 and likely others).
I love watching your videos

Have you fellas had the beyond dupe? If so, how would you compare the two? Awesome fresh crack/review!! 🤘🏼🥃
Just wanted to drop in and say hope you are both doing well. Loved hearing you wax poetically about whiskies I’ll likely never experience. Cheers.
Miss you bros! Hope all is good.
I love it when people tell the truth about a product!
where do you get those long neck glencarens?
Same here, hope you're both well, and hope to see new video's pop up soon!
Great video as usual. What was the year this was bottled?
Who has given up desire?
Where have you guys been! You two were some of my favorite reviewers!
Received a 1983 bottle as a gift, have it locked away, deciding what to do with it, enjoy or sell.
Hope you guys are ok. Miss your killer reviews
I almost died and went to hell when you said an old leather chair. Yeah let me get right on ordering this chocolate covered almond old leather chair whiskey.
The sister casks from this 1968 distillation of Bunnahabhain were eventually bottled as Port Askaig 45 year old. It too is cask strength but the angels have had even more share and reduced the abv to 40.8%. Quite superb whisky. Excellent stuff. Deliciously complex.
Dang it!! It took 2 years for this to get to my market and I paid $178 before tax this. Only 1 case came in and they just put it out. I should’ve waited until I watched reviews. F my damn luck. Anyway thanks for the super honest and thorough review.
Found a bottle of this in Kohler, Wisconsin. It was $8,000. We're the liquor State, so I hadn't seen anything that expensive before. I never knew liquor could cost that much! I drink Christain Brothers scotch, so I like my cheap liquor 😂
Was part 2 recently removed?
I miss watching you guys. I think your particular taste in whisky and your quality and style of reviews are missing in the whisky tube space.
Good stuff. Please get a decent mic setup
Great review. I've had one of theese bottles sitting for 15 years. Waiting till my kids get married to break it open. Cant wait
Sipping the same bottling and watching your review right now! Slainte!
Hope all is well, any update on the future of Malt Reviews? Great reviews over the years of phenomenal whiskies, wish you the best🥃
So want to get my hands on one of these beauties
i did a blind test with 6 friends... dewards 32, springbank 21, macallan 18 and 25, bowmore 21 ... 5 out of the 6 chose the dewards
I've got 3 bottles of this amazing liquid headed my way and I'm excited! I've got 5 bottles of the 12 year and it is absolutely amazing stuff! Thank you for the review!
Tupelo Honey
its awesome
Hey boys, it's that time of year! Grab some bottles and a couple of cubans and tell us what you've been up to!
My local Total Wine just got this for $200 USD before tax so it’s on my wish list. It is labeled as spirits direct so there’s a chance I could get 10% off on it. it’s $180 before tax. In this day and age for an 18 year old scotch, I guess that’s good but still kind of pricey.
Would you grab these at 1100 out the door? If im a mostly sherry person would I prefer this or 5 and 8?
1959/21yr Italian import for Father’s Day tonight, this stuff is amazing
The guy with the glasses does not have a clue
