  • Longrow.
    Not more needs to be said, does it?
    With as little as 100 casks a year being filled, peated for 48 hours at a rate of 50/55PPM, it is a whisky in the mold of coastal classics...but does its own, very unique thing. What that thing is, well, I doubt we'll ever really find out.
    NAS whiskies, in all honesty, they've never bothered me. The fact they bother so many is quite baffling. If it's quality liquid then why does it matter? Ardbeg Uigeadail or most of their range, any Jameson's product, Johnnie Walker Blue Label, most bourbon products, and of course, this bottle of Longrow. Nobody seems to bat an eyelid about NAS when it's on a brand that is universally loved...the fickle side of whisky.
    Anyway. Longrow Gold. It's brilliant. Enjoy

    I don't know why I never commented on this apart from the fact that I can't comment on everything. Anyway, better late than never. Okay, I'm a big fan of the Longrow NAS. I completely agree with your notes - I prefer this to any of the age statement offerings. I think it's a pure whisky and the others are just marketing material. WT

    Pure presentation, fabulous flavours, fully recyclable packaging, decent price...what's NOT to love about it?
    I feel incredibly lucky to have found a bottle of this last summer, and I couldn't agree with you more. I think the only reason it was still on the shelf at all was due to the unassuming box and label.
    I really enjoy the off-Islay whiskys that are smoky, like this one and the anCnoc peated. They're just different, a bit more ethereal and less in-your-face.
    If/when I see it on the shelf again, it's going home with me!
    Great review of a favourite spirit!
    Cheers Phil...🥃🥃

    Once again, I whole heartedly concur with your conclusions. Even despite B and the resulting chronic shortage of Springbank, Longrow is still pretty easy to find over here in the EU. Long may it stay under the radar.

    You've really nailed the flavours on this, imv. And I'm glad you're enjoying it so much. Yet some reviewers compare it unfavourably to other Campbelltown whiskies; maybe it is just their anti NAS bias. Quite apart from anything else, that gold longhand lettering against the packaging's simple cream background produces one of the most beautiful presentations around too.

    I bought a bottle of this at Royal Mile Whiskies in Edinburgh and it was the beginning of a very strong relationship with Campbeltown. I bought a Ledaig 10 at the same time and this wins everytime. Especially now that Ledaig is putting colour in their 10 year old expression? At least 9/10 on this one. I love it.

    • @WhiskyWednesday
      @WhiskyWednesday  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A love affair to rival the centuries.
      Regarding the Ledaig 10 and added colour note. I would normally deny this as the owners of that distillery are always NC and NCF. But a few reviews online are reporting it to be the truth, although I've found nothing concrete.

    I have a bottle of this, but have not opened her up yet. Its funny its so hard to get in the UK, in Canada(alberta) this is pretty available for 60cad. Everyone chases the high age statements and totally overlook the younger ones which are fantastic.

    Could not agree with you more on this one. I got a recent batch (dated 11.01.21) and it is seriously good. I actually prefer it to the newer batches of Kilkerran 12 which really surprised me. For a NAS it has so much complexity and easily rivals other age stated whiskies commanding much higher prices. For me it has been one of my favourite drams this year...for the price there is not much out there that will beat it imo. Cheers for your review!

    I had a bottle of the Longrow 11 Red Port Cask -- I loved that bottle, one of my favs. I can pick up a bottle of this at a store that's a bit of a drive away, but I'm gonna do it I know I'd love it. It'd definitely more expensive here in the States. Great review Phil!

    Don't feel bad about rating a NAS so high, I gave it my own WOTY because it spits in the face of the age argument; non-CF, no E150...we're good to go...proof that age is just a number.

    • @WhiskyWednesday
      @WhiskyWednesday  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In whisky, age certainly is just a number. I stand by rating this higher than all the age stated variations.

    I find the Longrow peated to be a bit like heroin, the first two drams I had out of my bottle we really delicious! I had high expectation and they were even surpassed. However all the drams after have been a bit more flat and lacking something. Every time i open the bottle i am chasing those first two amazing drams from the neck but i never get them. Maybe longrow doesn't like oxidisation?

    • @WhiskyWednesday
      @WhiskyWednesday  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I quite like this simile.
      I will say that my bottle was decanted and seemed to stay pretty standard until the end. It did get sweeter!

  • @SaltyCuban

    The way you describe it, it sounds like a mix of Oban or Kilkerran 10, and maybe Bladnoch 10?

    • @WhiskyWednesday
