  • Part 2 (of 4) of my mini series, looking at 2 independent distilleries in Campbeltown, owned by the Mitchell family.
This review, number 25, sees me still in Springbank distillery and looking at their peated offering...Longrow. I hope you enjoy it.
    Thanks for watching.

Such a balanced peat whiskey. It’s oily to me and a real nice finish. I need to stock up on some more as it’s readily available in California

Super review of a glorious Scotch. I like your 'beeswax' polish note: I've often referred to 'church pew' as far as this is concerned... For the price, there's nothing close for the price in my view.

As elegant as you'd want a heavier peated dram to be, IMO...my WOTY. Nice review, Jim.

This is a spectacular NAS. Full bodied, interesting, savoury and sweet. Taste a lot like kilkerran 12 which makes me think most is 10yrs old juice and maybe some sherry??

I haven’t had the pleasure of tasting this. But I’m a huge Ardbeg fan. Peated scotches in general. It’s time will come for me to enjoy one ☝️. Cheers 🥃😎

Watching this while nosing a Kilkerran 8 bourbon since that is the only Campbeltown in my possession at the moment.

I'll be reviewing it in a couple of weeks. Maybe a spoiler to that review but I think it's incredible stuff.
      Cheers.

Cheers Tim (isn't it). Yeah this is one of my "go to and savour" peated whiskies. So fresh. Hope you enjoy it when opened.
      Thanks mate.

@@WhiskeyNovice Having my first dram. Your tasting notes are spot on. Interesting that Longrow and Port Charlotte both call themselves heavily peated but I find both to be light and delicate compared to Ardbeg or Laphroaig. Excellent Whisky. Cheers

@@DonnerPassWhisky nice one my friend. Yeah I think that when you can drink peated whiskies without the peat being "offensive" to you...that peat, no matter how big an influence it has had on the malt, is just another flavour to be found.
Stuart at Whisky Whims put out a video about this yesterday in which he tries to encourage those who don't like peated whisky, on how to enjoy it. Just another layer in my view.
I would put this Longrow closer to a Laphroaig now. It's so fresh and sparkly which are aspects I've found in the Quarter Cask and 10yr old Islay.
Anyway...glad you enjoyed it mate. Cheers.

I agree this is an entirely different kind of peated whisky, and despite no age statement, it certainly doesn't show any typical signs of an underaged whisky.

Nice review, Jim...I love this one but you won't believe me, as I still have 1,5 bottles of the excellent but discontinued "C.V." (& a bunch of Springbanks & 2 Hazelburns), I haven"t bought a bottle of this one yet ! But for people who don't know this, it is a fabulous contender to Islay peated whiskies ! Slainte ! Keep up the good work !
PS : Hearing to your notes I take there is a significant but probably not major amount of sherry caks in there, right ?

    • @WhiskeyNovice
      @WhiskeyNovice  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Cheers Greg. As far as I can tell, this pretty much is the C.V. but (as someone put it) in a new dress. So as someone who has the C.V....I wouldn't rush out to buy this 😄.
Regarding maturation...from memory this is 100% ex bourbon cask aged but...I have been wrong in the past 😄
      Thanks again mate.
