Cold Steel’s heat treat on AUS8A, smokes Buck’s Bos 420HC in edge retention, massively. It also smokes it in toughness. Compare the Cold Steel AUS8A SRK, to Buck’s 119, and it’s not remotely close. Not even in the same hemisphere.
The 420 is more corrosion resistant.

Not trying to be difficult but is this a fair fight with the supposedly superior Buck heat treatment compared to standard 420 HC?

I would say that the OKC heat treat is spot on for AUS-8 so I would say it’s a fair fight but standard 420 HC would lose to AUS-8

I called song I said you guys have some of the best steel and discovered it was aus 8 a Japanese. Easy to sharpen decent with rust but must be oiled and brush spots. Very sharp

Two steals I don't like 420 and 1095 despite that ka bar loves that stuff I don't I see why they would issue it to army it is super tough but I don't think it's sharp enough

Good comparison. I would take the buck and some of my favorite beater knives are from buck because they offer a good ht at at affordable price.
