The TRM Atom might get 75 additional cuts on rope but can it skin a grizzly bear or build a small cabin in a survival situation? I think not.

In the States the original 110 is about $45 plus tax+ship the cv20 110 runs around $100 plus tax and ship. P.S. thanks for the testing "lab". While your results may not be "scientific" per se, they have an excellent and practical methodology and you should be commended for your work.

Cedric you are fucking awesome and I think you are doing a great thing for the knife community, and metallurgy as well. Have you ever thought about implementing another test to test other aspects of the metal? I know you've done corrosion resistance tests but if you put your mind to it, with your knowledge I think you could come up, or use another test for knives that can be practical and affordable. I might also be talking out of my ass, but you've had so many knives in hand and tested so many, that I feel like by now you could come up with something new, and something that can actually be used scientifically/to measure data across all boards.

Maybe BOS' heat treat process is such that it doesn't apply as well with other TYPES of steels? Maybe 420 just reacts in a special way to the process.. I don't know, I'm having a hard time articulating my thought because I don't know enough about heat treating and how it works.
I'd be curious to see if the new Buck slims do as well in a cut test? I assume the results would be the same-ish, it would be nice to see proof that they aren't using worse steel for the much cheaper slims.

When I want to learn about the higgs boson, I'll consult the experts at CERN. When I want to learn about neutrino oscillations, I'll consult the experts at FermiLab. When I want to learn about knife steel performance, I consult the experts at the Knife Lab.

With the Spartan in AUS10 he got 150 cuts (factory edge) and 140 or so with the Worksharp 20 deg edge.
No KME edge in that test - probably bc of the recurve 😛

I wouldn't get either one, simply because they're hollow ground. That grind is great for making cuts in meat, slicing paper, and carving, but with such a thin edge suddenly blooming into the full stock thickness, it creates more friction when making deep slices. That grind is perfect for razors and skinning knives, but pretty worthless for anything else.

So if you add the time it takes to sharpen the blade...the 420HC would be a better choice for me. Plus if you hone the blade after uses you will get more cuts out if it. Higher end steels are nice but I don't like spending a day sharpening. Plus since you don't have Uncle Randy around.......I will say it......Why on earth do young folk these days think they need steel that can withstand a Nuke just to cut string and cardboard boxes? Back in my day we had 420C in my Buck and could kill and skin a deer with it then sharpen it on a rock

I’m sure it’s been said but buck 110’s are actually like $30-$35 at Walmart. I’ll send you one if you want $80 in uk? Hell nah

He's too busy putting mirror edges on his knives to worry about some pesky wood glue.
But seriously two screws into the timber bench underneath would atleast stop it from running away on him.
But we are nit picking. Great vid as usual!

These ‘tests’ are always (deliberately ?)ambiguous….. I’ll simplify it for you; The 20CV is far superior.

When Buck makes a 20CV 110, configured like the one in this video, with thumb studs and a pocket clip, I'll buy one. Until then, I'll continue to pass, because it's not 1976 anymore.
