No marathons this year. Doing half marathons and planning to beat my pb and building up towards Great Belt Bridge Half late May and CPH Half in September to be the race of the year for me. If the legs and body is in a shape for a marathon at the end of the year... who knows?
I'm so thankful that you're doing a Spring Marathon series again this year. I started running in May 2019, completing my first parkrun in 32 minutes; I'm now in training for my first Marathon this Spring, having spent the last 25 weeks slowly scaling up to marathon distance from HM. My goal time is sub 2:40 and I'm pleased to say I'm on target to achieve it 🤞. I often watch your videos whilst meal prepping, they serve as inspiration for what I want to achieve, especially your visualisation techniques (would love to see a whole video on this topic BTW); thank you and Sarah so much for the content and inspiration!
Last year I used your training plan for 21k and 2h mark..did it first time 1:51:36...now I’m doing the same plan and base training to try for 1:45 mark later this year and building solid base for next year, when will be my first marathon so I’m confident in you running plans. They are great. Cheer
Super excited to be following this series Ben 😁 I'm into week 8 of spring marathon training using your intermediate plan and it has opened my eyes to a whole new approach. Feeling great and building confidence as well as strength. Thanks for everything you do to keep us engaged and motivated and good luck with your race prep 👍
Hi Ben, just wanted to say that thanks to your videos running began my biggest passion and now I am the happiest version of me in the entire life. Thank you for all your effort, cheers!
1. As a midwestern American I'm jealous that you're not buried in snow! 2. You got me fired up to get that marathon PB in my upcoming race while I'm sitting at my work desk! 3. Ok...I'll start doing strides...but that doesn't mean I'll like it!
WREXHAM ELITE - Looking forward to this, I’m local to the area so will be watching, can’t wait. All the best for the training Ben and hope to see you come April 👍🏼
Brilliant mate excited for this series! Training for sub 2:40 marathon at shepperdine marathon on April 25th! You should try brooks Hyperion tempo and new balance tc for training speed shoes!! Any joy with house hunting yet?
I’m not a 2:30 marathoner, but I would recommend using some shoes without carbon fiber plates for training. But if you are I like the zoom fly 3 and the vaporfly combo a lot more than the alphafly and tempo next %. Good luck on your goal though!
Had my first marathon(s) cancelled last year, so went out on my own towards the end of the year and ran a 3:23 for my first full marathon, with no support, aid stations and carrying all my things on a hilly route. My life's goal is to get sub-3 (raced a 1:24 half last year so quietly confident I can get there eventually), maybe this year at York/Manchester - but your videos and tips have inspired me to start my own TH-cam channel, sharing my journey and my love of runnig. I'd love any tips! Cheers Ben, keep it up!
Good luck with your marathon! I am still waiting to run a marathon since my last in fall 2019.....aiming now at one on march 8th....not the best since is mostly on gravel and so not a fast course....but I will run the first that actually happens no matter what
I'm entered into the Wrexham Elite Half Marathon, hope to see you there Ben! Good luck with your training, you've been a huge inspiration to my running journey !
I did 23 miles last week and I'll be doing 25 miles this week as I'm building towards 50 mile weeks. I've done odd long runs in the past couple of months but I'm going for consistency now.
Just got into Running in last 2 years during our first lock down an I’m loving it! Training up for my Marathon at the end of the year, thx for the great tips and tricks
Great to see you running some of my long run route! I have Brighton marathon scheduled for September so might go for a half in the spring if this situation changes soon enough. Great video as always. PS the wraps are a great running face covering 😷
Steering clear of the air pods due to the durability concerns! Planning to run my first half in the spring in Tennessee (USA). Keep working hard, and as always, great content 👍
I'm starting a 14-week program on Monday. Done my first half marathon distance 2 weeks ago (1h:40m exact) after training consistently for 12 weeks. Really looking forward to running an actual marathon this summer. Good luck with your training
Going for my first Marathon in Edinburgh, so hoping that goes ahead in May! Into my second week of your training plan and so far so good, can’t wait as loving my running now 👍
Good luck with the training! Next week I start your Level 3 marathon plan. Looking forward to it! I sent an email back a few weeks ago; hoping to get tips on fueling during long runs. 😁
Hi Servando. Sorry I get quite a huge volume of emails, it's really hard to reply to everyone.. but can't give people specific training advice over email. I have a few videos on TH-cam about fueling your long runs though, so please check those out! All the best with your training!
Good luck for your marathon! I’m training for my first half marathon (reading in April if it goes ahead. and have ran 30K for the first time this week. Goal is sub 1:40 and am building up the mileage
My goal is to qualify for Boston during the CIM in December (if it takes place). I've been training since Oct 2020. I'll make it happen by sheer force of will
I'm preparing for my 2nd marathon (using one of your plans) on exactly the same date as you're planning. So far it goes well. Tomorrow is fast finish long run.
Thanks for Sarah, otherwise we'd be still be looking at Ben trying to make his smoothie :D First goal for me was running 10k under 1 hour, I achieved this goal last weekend. Next goal will be a few half marathons before ending with a full marathon by the end of this year.
Hi Ben, good luck with the race, this should be an interesting mini series, I wasn't going to do a marathon till next year but might do the new London virtual as I've nearly got my regular long run up to 20miles now. I've just finished 4 months of easy base runs and have now added in some tempos and fartlek s into the mix, as well as strides of course!. Doesn't using milk with SIS Rego slow the absorption? In years to come they will but a blue plaque at that lifebuoy where you always start your runs!
Haha! Maybe you'll make it all the way to Greenwich on your long runs soon. The Thames Path is a very cool place to run a marathon, so you've got the perfect set up on your doorstep!
Hoping to do a half marathon this year, did one back in 2017, but ruptured a knee ligament (skiing, oops!) after it!! Taught my self to run again over lockdown!

Still a long way to go.. but have already mapped out the 100k route! I guess a ultra is anything longer than 26.2 miles, so Keilder must be a ultra :-). Good luck!

I live in a block of flats.. so the neighbours wouldn't appreciate it I'm sure. But if I had a normal house with a garage etc, then I'd certainly get one!
I think if I can get 400km into a shoe and get it replaced twice I've done quite well fair play to Nike for replacing them twice. So that'll be potentially 1200km out of one purchase that is real value.
@@joyridaz I'm not criticising I'm highlighting consumer rights. Nike sold an expensive product @ben parkes has followed a process we mostly forget about. Its actually worth a vlog on its own. The benefit is a by product. Nike I believe have a 2 year guarantee on their shoes.
@@gary7542 I totally agree. I’m curious if they would take them back if an average joe like me tried to return after that many miles. I remember the struggles people had a couple yrs back with the Pegasus turbo’s splitting apart... I agree completely quality shouldn’t be a concern, especially when shelling out big bucks for the latest tech at a premium
Hey! I just went onto live chat on the nike website, said the AirPod broke on one the shoes and they emailed me a label to return them for free. They never asked how far I'd ran in them.. but obviously they knew I hadn't had them that long as they're got my order history. Would never do the whole 'do you know who I am' thing :-) Just buy my gear, use it.. just like any other runner out there. Would hate to think I got treated differently to anyone else. I expect my shoes to last 700-800k's before they need replacing.. so these were at 50% .. which isn't great. If they'd done 600+ then I'd just have disposed of them and moved on.. but felt a little short changed at 400k. The reason they accepted the return was the 2 year guarantee I think.. that's what the customer service agent said. Hope that clears it up a bit!
I have a fairley new pair of tempo next and Alpha Fly and obviously plan to do some (very) long runs in them. Where you able to jog back when the airpods popped? It would be a nightmare walking back 20km or so. I actually love the tempo next, can t say this about the AlphaFly (yet) the old next % feels better.
Mine temp next and Alphflyes are still going strong :) but for this year i am looking forward to vaporfly 2 and endorphin Pro 2 - untill then i wont buy new raceshoes :)
I would get one.. but live in an apartment block and think my neighbours would be pretty unhappy. One of the drawbacks of living in a small London flat!
@@BenParkes I have exactly the same problem! Arghh! BTW I’ve been looking for the white S/Lab jacket you’re rocking here but I can’t find it anywhere. Maybe it’s no longer available. Can you recommend one that’s breathable as well as waterproof? Maybe you can do a whole vlog on that subject?
Loving the video as always. I have a question about running surfaces. You appear to do a lot of your running on concrete, being in the middle of the city. I am building my mileage and have little to no access to dirt tracks that aren’t technical trails. How do you manage your body when running on concrete as you’re building mileage?
I've just ordered some Alpha flys and should be getting some endorphin pros early February🤞 if the air pods go mid race what actually happens? Will it totally ruin your race or PB chances by making the forefoot really unstable or do they just feel and sound weird? I know they'll be ready for the bin or getting returned afterwards but it's getting through the the race that really matters.
You couldn't run if one of the pods goes.. maybe limp through a final 1k.. but it's really unstable and wouldn't be safe. Also going to get the new endorphin pro's in Feb!
If the pods go on this pair of tempos do you think it will be your last pair? I was so tempted to get a pair but decided on endorphin speed and definetly do not not regret my decision!
It has some merit if you can run on really soft dirt.. but as most of the world now runs on hard asphalt, you need protection from that in the form of cushioned shoes.
Would WAY rather be running a usual big city marathon.. but in light of everything just chosen the one most likely to go ahead. Hopefully in the Autumn we can race regular races again!
No one is actually checking.. the government just ask people to do the right thing! And they've advised once per day.. it's not the law, you can't get in trouble for going out more.. but I'm happy to stick to what they are asking.
When I am running - I've only just started - should I be worried about my heart rate? I hit 200bpm the other day, did my first 10k in years. What should I concentrate on? At the moment, I am running 3-4k every few days.
Hi Ben! I mostly run in stability shoes but since most of these are geared towards easy runs, I’m looking for a pair to use just for faster stuff, any recommendations?
@@Bongokingish Much faster than me (3:35 - 3:45/KM for sessions). I'm fine with Pegasus 37 for those. They feel faster to me than my kinvaras. I'm sure a plated shoe would make the sessions faster but at the expense of making the foot weak - so I don't know. Swings and roundabouts I suppose
Are you planning on running a marathon this year?? Hopefully we can see you there!

GoPro hero 9 when I'm running!
If the pods go on this pair of tempos do you think it will be your last pair? I was so tempted to get a pair but decided on endorphin speed and definetly do not not regret my decision!
Really want to get the endorphin speed, not sure when the mk2 comes out
Early February!
Vapor Fly Next % 2 they are out soon and no air pods
Good Look from Germany 💪🏻 lets get it done 🏃🏻♂️👊 My Marathon was in Niederlande 🇳🇱 Enschede but i think it get canceled
Danke Daniel. Ich hoffe dein Marathon ist gut und du kannst laufen!
Once a day is what they advise,.this isn't like the first one where it was law this time it says that it's up to us basically
Same thing happened twice to me
First?! :) Good luck with the marathon training Ben, will be very interesting following along!
Second today Luke.. I was first!! Haha!! 🤣😂
@@BenParkes I'm happy with second too! 😂😅
Just read born to run, would you ever consider running bare foot and what are your thoughts?
It has some merit if you can run on really soft dirt.. but as most of the world now runs on hard asphalt, you need protection from that in the form of cushioned shoes.
@@BenParkes cheers Ben
You have to be pretty committed to think running a marathon around an industrial estate is a good idea!
Would WAY rather be running a usual big city marathon.. but in light of everything just chosen the one most likely to go ahead. Hopefully in the Autumn we can race regular races again!
What type of powder do you use in your recovery smoothie Ben? Thank you.
looked like SiS (Sport in Science) REGO in this vlog - i can recommend the chocolate flavour
Can't wait to order some buffs - maybe you should design one with Kiki on?
Will see what we can do for the Autumn!! Like the idea Martin!
Love the cat 😻
Do you download podcasts? I don't take my phone running, just an MP3 player.
I guess you can download podcasts.. I always have my phone with me though, so just use that.
Is there still time to enter the Wrexham one? Also, can I have a shout out next time on that list haha 😅
It's full now.. but there is a waiting list!
Why dont you try the ADIDAS ADIZERO ADIOS PRO ?
Can't find any in stock anywhere.. but as soon as I do then I'll get some!
@@BenParkes Awesome, Thank you for the reply... :)
How do they check how many times u go out?
No one is actually checking.. the government just ask people to do the right thing! And they've advised once per day.. it's not the law, you can't get in trouble for going out more.. but I'm happy to stick to what they are asking.
When I am running - I've only just started - should I be worried about my heart rate? I hit 200bpm the other day, did my first 10k in years. What should I concentrate on? At the moment, I am running 3-4k every few days.
Hi Ben! I mostly run in stability shoes but since most of these are geared towards easy runs, I’m looking for a pair to use just for faster stuff, any recommendations?
How fast
@@kierenkd Depends on the session but anywhere from 3:15s to High 3s ( per km obviously)
