    Mike Pondsmith said it best: "Cyberpunk isn't about saving the world. It's about saving yourself". And very few people in that universe made everything about themselves on the scale that Johnny did. His ego may be second only to Saburo Arasaka, who has quite the god complex.

    Johnny wanted to change the world for the better. Corporate dominance was an obvious target and would have created the greatest change in the shortest time. Crippling them, or better, collapsing them altogether would be a major check mark in his 'win' column. Not being able to do that made his frustration grow until he lost control of it, and himself. Violence was a tool in his toolbox. His music, something he felt real passion for, was transformed into another tool by his swelling frustration and his growing anger at himself for not being able to achieve his goals and desires. If I had to make a dialectic decision, I would have to say that Johnny was a good man, trying to survive in a world that crushes good men.

    Losing Alt, and knowing it was his fault that she was trapped as an A.I
    Put him in a place beyond reason. he just wanted to wipe out Arasaka, no matter the cost, so no one else would have to suffer.
    Like How V asked him "what did you do after that?" when they see the memories of what happened to alt
    and Johnny said "i got a pair of thermo nukes and went back"
    Even N54 News says "Some attribute the incident to Arasaka's Authoritarian Ways"
    They acted like they ruled the world, and in a way they did.
    I would put him as Chaotic Good. He had good intentions, But his execution was beyond Extreme, even by Cyberpunk standards.

    I would go further back in Johnny's history and look at how the South Am war treated him. Those who don't know about that, think of the Vietnam war times N as the war atrocities from both side were heinous. US Soldiers on a wanton destruction path, South Am war machine using POW as guinea pigs for biotech experiments. To finish it off the USA military then abandon all of them. The US soldiers were told "You're on your own. Good luck making it back home." I sure that was a bitter pill to swallow by these vets. These soldier who did make it back (with heavy loses during the long walk) found their old lives ruled by corrupt corporation. I don't know what started the hatred Johnny has for Arasaka, but it was there prior to 2013. Johnny has a lot of trauma prior to when entering the story of 2013 and it just continues from there.

    Another great video brother... My opinion ; Johnny is not a good person at all but i don't think he is evil either.. He is a war veteran that saw very f*ckedup things in the war, Lost his friends, his arm, Who know how many things he witnessed.. When war is over he throw himself into the Night City and i think Night City did the rest to him.. I see him more of a Victim of that world. Also i was in the army and i think when people quit army their attitude stick with them rest of their life if they won't start to live a normal life.. Some normies see Johnny as a "bArD WiTh A gUn" but they forgot his true past and where is he came from.. You explained very perfectly moral in the Cyberpunk world, i love your videos please keep making more, Also i'am waiting for Morgan Blackhand Lore video too ^^

    during his lifetime was idolized for his talents, message, and charisma.
    Popular enough to still be idolized by young and old, an still played on the radio 50 years after his death despite his disposition and actions.
    While he was Uber popular and at the top of his fame and obsession, he was your average celebrity douche bag-party guy.
    Douche bag enough to leave a sour taste in the mouth of the people who loved him the most.
    He was only 34 when he died, he had a long life to figure out that he was a douche bag.

  • @ZrodyApo

    What sums up his character is at the end when you're talking with and Alt (before deciding who keeps the body), V says something about hoping everyone gets a happy ending and Johnny answers "Here, for folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people."
    If we take the game as the most recent reference you can view Johnny and Yorinobu as 2 faces of the same coin, both wants to destroy the corporation but not without big sacrifces.
    Also quoting Yorinobu from the game during the Devil ending "If planting bombs not enough, what can you do ? You become bomb.". In a twisted way, Yorinobu became a kind of the symbolic successor of Johnny in CP2077.

  • @Flameville
    @Flameville 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    In my eyes he’s both After seeing the grip corps had on individuals and seeing how it affected people in war and in life. He went about doing something and believed he was the only one who saw the issues around him and was the only one who would be willing to do something.
    He’s ways we’re extreme but it motivated saburo to become the bomb from within because he too saw through his fathers schemes and despised arasaka’s hold on people.
    Your goal can be noble but the ways you go about reaching that goal can corrupt you and change how people view you. Silverhand is a hero to many but also a villain to others. He can be both.
    Also V is the villain n the corp ending because he contributes to arasaka remaining in power by halting saburos plans to free millions from the corps hold.

    Before watching this video, I will post my opinion on Johnny Silverhand. I've always viewed him as a sort of anti-hero. He has a skewed view of the world but has very solid reasonings behind it. He tends to act on those skewed views seemingly believing that he is doing the right thing, even if what he is doing is objectively wrong or in the wrong way.

  • @VannywiththeFanny
    @VannywiththeFanny 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Well. He's definitely not a "good guy", that's for sure. V has the ability to make this quite clear to him throughout the story.
    Despite this tho, he changes when he meets V. I forget which mission it is but Johnny says, "See, you're more like me than you think V", V replies,"or maybe your becoming more like me". And with an almost in- denial tone Johnny replies "Nahhhh". What I'm getting at is V makes him a better person. With him basically being willing to give his life for V by the end, depending on choices.

      Judy and River are good people that try very hard to do good things. Panam is a good character, V is a good character, and Jackie is a good character, but fundamentally they're kinda neutrally aligned at best; they are outright violent criminals, and not out of a sense of altruism. V is debatably good, but that's largely out of her connection to characters like Judy and River, based on the player's choices.

    His personality makes me think a lot about Fight Club or Mr Robot. I would actually have welcomed a little bit more of conflict, maybe a few situations in the beginning of the game with Johnny taking over without V's consent, or refusing to go somewhere... Corps label him a terrorist, which is exactly what he is. He set off a thermonuclear bomb downtown. Like, seriously. And Keanu Reeves plays him so straight-up it's ridiculous.
