    A big advantage for V, is that he has all his illusion of immortality removed, he knows the chip will kill him, so his mind is totally focused on hunting down a few last rays of hope.
    V knows he is not special.
    V knows his death is imminent.
    So he is grounded is reality and humanity.

      I mean you could be right, but also wrong. The chip could also be interfering with the cybernetics causing him too not have that overlap, plus through the game they explain too you, that his brain is bassicly being turned into cyberware, which could also have a net positive affect on the mental strain caused by implants, but untill we get a 100% anser we honestly will never know.

    V is many levels above David, much because of Relic, so he is immune to cyberpsychosis. In addition we can measure the power level as follows. V single-handedly invaded the Arasaka Tower from the first floor, climbed up and destroyed arasaka's entire defense system and turned Adam Smasher into a pile of twisted metal. David is strong.... but V is a Cyber Demon

    • @LastKnownMeal
      @LastKnownMeal  ปีที่แล้ว +93

      Yeah haha, which makes me wonder if David managed to get enough experience as V or well grow older, if he would be stronger. And the fight with Smasher is a bit of a problematic one, he should have been a lot stronger, V is strong but getting Smasher that easily is bs, especially lore wise.

    The real irony is that Arasaka wanted to study David and replicate his tolerance... But they really can't engineer people with that level of Humanity. They treat their employees and even their budding students like assets and liabilities rather than people. Even Corpo V is barely holding it together between stress and malnutrition until he was forced out of the company by circumstance, with his only real source of Humanity at the time coming from Jackie.

      It’s also pretty heavily implied by the game, especially through the Cyberpsycho missions, and Id argue through the anime as well that Cyberpsychosis isn’t the inevitable death sentence its treated as.
      It almost certainly can be managed and treated if not outright cured; Its just those in power have no interest in the expense required to do so for the general public. Singular cases like Adam however offer a RoI incentive for them to care. It wouldnt surprise me if beyond his general resilience to the psychosis- he also has access to resources to deal with it.

    David and V were perfect illustrations of the opposed crossroads of life.
    Both V and David dealt with grief. David losing his mom pushed him down a path of darkness due to his grief and loss he felt consumed by his thirst for vengeance, V used his grief to propel him forward and ultimately through his humanity and the friendships he struck up after the loss of Jackie he was able to overcome what David was not.

  • @spider-spectre
    @spider-spectre ปีที่แล้ว +61

    The big difference between V and David is that V clings to life with tooth and nail as he sees death approaching, David was desensitized by the deaths of those important to him and never feared death, even sought it out with his dangerous change in lifestyle becoming a cyberpunk. V starts from the beginning as a cyberpunk, David had a chance at a normal life but, had it taken away from him.

    • @spider-spectre
      @spider-spectre ปีที่แล้ว +6

      IMO Cyberpsychosis works like this, psychopathy usually stems from apathy, with cyberpsychos it makes sense that someone who gets used to having cyberware where they can lift cars, a normal human doesn't even feel relatable and they start to feel out of touch with what it means to be human, the struggle. Never having to work out for muscle means no appreciation, only better performance which would inflate an ego. When you can kill others with such ease and you yourself is hard to kill, you start to desensitize and not see people as "people", just meat which is inferior to chrome.

    • @thefracturedbutwhole5475
      @thefracturedbutwhole5475 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spider-spectre yeah, but plenty of people don't go psycho while others do, I think "cyberpsychosis" is a severe negative reaction to cyberware mixed with a persons underlying problems.
      For instance, someone who would already be prone to violent outburst getting a Berserk implant that isn't quite right for them Etc..., it not being an "actual" illness would explain the big difference in what seems to set cyberpsychos off.

    • @KingSlimeProductions
      @KingSlimeProductions ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spider-spectre What about those specific cyber psychos that only turn that way because they killed someone on accident? There's a psycho named Russel Greene, he went insane because he accidentally blew up his family with his home security system. The person went psycho not because they lacked empathy, but because they accidentally killed someone they loved and it sent them over the edge. To me this is a clear sign that cyberpsychosis can occur not only as a result of losing empathy, but also a traumatic event that may send the victim spiraling into a mindset where they feel they have nothing to lose (kinda similar to how David is portrayed)

    • @jackmesrel4933
      @jackmesrel4933 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thefracturedbutwhole5475 Also there's the fact that some cyberwares are just too much for the body to handle, and in the long run they damage your nervous system and brain. Using David as an example, everyone is telling him to not abuse the Sandevistan so much cus it will fry his nervous system, and then when he gets into the exoskeleton the only thing keeping his brain and ego alive is the inmunodepresants he's getting injected with through the last episode, like we see him bleeding through the nose constantly while using the special features of the exo. So yeah, cyberpsychosis, at least from my interpretation, is a combination of pushing your brain to it's limits through ciberware combined with underlying mental issues and trauma that causes the victims to suffer psychotic episodes and lose their egos. Oh, also drugs, cus on the long run people heavily cromed need inmunodepresants to operate properly otherwise they get the shakes, like we see with Maine in Edgerunners and also Vik from 2077 (also he says that it's because he's getting old, so yeah drugs and cyberware seem to damage the nervous system with time or overuse)

    One MAJOR factor people keep forgetting about:
    David is a KID... and not only is he a kid, he's as close to a normal kid as one can possibly get in the Cyberpunk universe. He lives in a nicer middle-class home with his mother who has a job that pays just enough to raise David in a relatively safe environment and is able to send him to a relatively safe, high dollar corpo school.... and then suddenly loses everything when his mother dies and then has a military grade Sandevistan reflex package grafted onto his 17-year-old spine as his first piece of Chrome. Even V has to be a certain street cred level before they go grafting military grade shit into their body, but David just goes all-in from the start.
    Believe it or not the entire events of Edgerunners takes place over a year, David is just 18 when he ends his journey in the show even though he's already decked out his body with enough cyberware and muscles to make him look like a buffed out war vet in his 30's. David really is too young, too small, and too immature both mentally and emotionally to put the kind of insane strain David winds up putting on his body with all the chrome he decks himself out with in a relatively short period of time.
    V, on the other hand, is a grown ass adult with a lot of rough living and experience under their belt before the game really even goes into full swing, and this is true no matter what background you pick. Canon backstory V is a streetkid so they've been living life rough and on the streets their whole life, but even Nomad V or Corpo V comes from a tough background of violence and survival, so they're able to handle the pressures and stresses of their cyberware a lot more maturely than David whose basically a toddler with an AK-47.
    Not to mention that when it comes to keeping your mental shit together, two heads are probably better than one, so Johnny's construct and the damage its gradually doing to V's brain probably helps ground them to reality even more than they would be able to otherwise.

    Putting together Pondsmith's explanation, I wouldn't be surprised if Silverhand was just a high-functioning cyberpsycho, similar to Adam Smasher before getting turned into an engram. And that's before either Johnny or Smasher were turned into their engram counterparts. As engrams, they're literally immune to cyberpsychosis, and that could potentially be another massive buffer atop Silverhand's "anger" and "rage" preventing V from losing their mind.

    In the game they mention that V's neural network is deteriorating and his body is attacking his own brain, I wonder if that make him entirely immune to psychosis given that his body is rejecting... well himself, and giving it to Johnny who is essentially a construct in a metal casing which doesn't follow the same autonomy as a physical brain. I wonder depending on what happens after the game (SPOILER) if Johnny would be entirely immune to cyberpsychosis because he has no physical brain inside V's body

    • @mortalitydoesstuff8965
      @mortalitydoesstuff8965 ปีที่แล้ว

      the way they word it in the game doesn't make it seem like the chip is straight up destroying his brain, but that it's systematically killing off and regrowing his neurons to be an exact replica of Johnny's, thereby basically making him Johnny. The chip itself isn't his brain now. Maybe V doesn't go psycho because the chip is actively "repairing damage" which would otherwise send him over the deep end

    Psychology and experience are certainly great resistance against cyberpsychosis.
    Although I had a kinda fringe theory about why V is so resistant to it despite being able to be super chromed-up. After the events of Konpeki and No-Tell Motel, V isn't entirely human anymore, the malfunctioning Relic must've done some botched reconstruction/integration to keep the host alive so it can complete the rewrite. I think part of V's consciousness, immediately after waking up in the landfill is already part construct. So by the end of the game V is mostly malfunctioning AI. You can't get cyberpsychosis if you are not human to begin with.
    Of course this theory takes for granted that human-like AI/constructs would not suffer from psychological trauma and stress like we do.

    • @TheGeoCheese

      This can be quickly disproven with the cases of Adam Smasher and Lizzie. It’s hard to determine with Adam Smasher but all of that chrome should be guaranteeing cyberpsychosis (which could mean he’s a cyberpsycho) but he’s only on a murderous rampage when on assignment by contract.
      Lizzie is definitely showing signs of it on how strangely violent she can get. Got to remember she scared the shit out of her manager and even went on to kill (and enjoyed the killing) the poor gonk.

    As Mike Pondsmith explained the Cyberpsychosis is a combination of over-cybering and PTS from killing/losing loved ones.
    This could mean if you use Non-Lethal weapons (Bats, Baton, Pax mod, Molots Gas, Street Brawler weapons, NL takedown) they should have lower Crit values BUT you are not ending lives left n right and not lowering your Humanity rating.
    Maybe even with a Gang reputation mechanic your not Maelstrom enemy #1 if you are leaving survivors.
    Crimes need a Red Dead Redemption 2 style bounty system where you incur a bounty and can go pay it off before you get Edgerunners and Police patrols and if identified pursuits. You will get hunted by mercs/edgerunners, then cops, then better solos, then max tac etc unless you pay off your bounty.
    If you paired this with a Humanity rating, Lower = Cyberpsycho chance event mechanic where V could get affected by cyberpsychosis unless expensively medicated or cyberware removed/ organics regrafted ... V could go NPC and control is out of your hands - start punching, stabbing, shooting (exemption for scripted in missions for devs sake). Would really ante up your stakes.

Everyone NPC/enemy turns into a mutated husk of a human, you kill everything and then it's game over? That sounds awful in a video game. What works in an anime or tabletop game doesn't always work in a video game. A lot of the suggestions I've seen sound fun one time as a cinematic moment and then like cheap annoying gimmicks after.

V, on the other hand, was flat out desperate. In each lifepath they get screwed one way or another. And then enter the construct and Johnny. They *know* painfully, that theyre not special. That understanding I think *heightens* theyre ability to empathize with others and this resist the traumas and stressors that cause cyberpsychosis. Imo the humanity system is depressing in the ttrpg because as far as I've been able to tell you only lose humanity ( someone correct me if I'm wrong because this has stopped me from playing )

    i like the theory that cyberpsychosis in the game is from that blue-eyed man's group (the guys with the rings) trying to brainwash people as they did with the Peralez. also connects to how the dolls feel like they're having a bout of cyberpsychosis when they use the doll implant (which takes over their body/mind control). speaking of, reminds me of what happens to V huh... I guess we're just a strange version of cyberpsychosis, perhaps.
    i don't know much about the ttrpg but i think its different there, more like in edgrunners. imo they should either separate the canon on that, or come up with a different explanation for the mind control connections

    Perhaps CDPR should have put a humanity stat in. There's room for it on the character screen. It starts a 2 and is treated the same as every other stat but without the skills. When you level up you have to decide between having more cyberware capacity and upgrading your other stats. If it reaches zero perhaps roll a hidden die every hour and on a certain number (such as a 1 on a d20) have every character model turn hostile, and because you're shooting civilians (that aren't actually attacking you but you think they are), MaxTac shows up and does what they do best.
    Cyberware could then be buffed I think, but in my opinion, it's fine the way it is.

    V's not that much older than David. 4 years older to be exact. V is 23 years old during the events of CP2077. As of Patch 2.0, V's Date of Birth for both Male and Female was changed to what it was supposed to be all along. 12 Oct 2053. You can see it on the Character creation screen when you're selecting Gender and Body type.
