Silverhand is an amazing character, an egocentric prick who gets a second chance to take at a good hard look at his life and how he treated his friends and lovers and gets the oportunity to grow from it and even make amends.
Finally, someone who gets it.
There's also the nuance that even in that he's still lying to you and he's trying to get you to be his legacy. The idea that his engram edited his memory of the assault on Arasaka Tower to make himself the star of the show, which is fascinating.
[SPOILERS]
There's a specific moment in the game that really stuck with me, I believe its right after you get away from the motel where Arasaka "rescues" Hanako. After talking to her through the doll, you have a relic malfunction that hits really hard and you find yourself in a chair on a sort of deck on the motel. What follows is a very simple dialogue sequence in which V and Johnny talk through what they both are really looking for, and come to realize that neither of them really know what that may be. In the end, Johnny describes what it was like in Mikoshi: to be overwritten and changed into something completely unrecognizable; to have all self-determination subverted through the changing of one's "being" into a "construct". V listens to this, and says (at least for my playthrough) something along the lines of "you know you're doing all of that to me with the chip." And for the first time in all my interactions with him, Johnny looks ashamed. He turns his head away, looks down to the ground, and says "I know. That's why I'm trying to stop it."
To stop that, would ultimately kill Johnny once again. And he certainly knows that. So all of a sudden this hardened, spiteful man shows true vulnerability and a level of empathy that seems completely foreign from the Johnny who tried to kill us when we first meet (though such a dramatic transformation may only be possible if V is played as a decent guy). That conversation was the first thing in Cyberpunk that truly made me feel like I wasn't just "along for the ride". I loved Witcher 3, but there's something about Cyberpunk where you aren't just roleplaying as V as you would Geralt. You ARE V, and your actions and choices, and the consequences of such things are what make the game something special. While they may not truly change the game world to any huge degree, they do serve to make the experience YOURS.

So many hate him in Cyberpunk but I loved him. If you are used to him, you are used to his line delivery. As your title says, it's perhaps his best role. I would like the game less if not for him being in it. I'd say there are only a handful of actors I would want to meet that are really nice. Keanu, Robin Williams (RIP) and Paul Walker (RIP). These people are genuine down to earth people in real life.

I loved Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand. He was in the game way more than i expected. I thought it would just be a glorified cameo but hes in almost every side quest commenting on things. I loved it.
I think one reason people like Keanu Reeves is that he's so down to earth. And he says the secret to it is gravity.

Keanu Reeves is one of the few Hollywood actors that's still down to earth and not a prick who spouts a agenda without doing shit. Love him and his character in the game.
At first when I played I felt it sounded that Keanu was reading the script in his hands, never seen the lines before, as most of the dialog is in a slower pace. But the more I played the more it fitted Silverhand with his strong beliefs and his mentality that he is the enlightened one, with a deep desire to crush the system and burn it to the ground. That character could as well been an aggressive yelling maniac, but no, Keanu played him as rather calm, speaking from insight and knowledge.
After my first playthrough I felt like an ass to Silverhand and I got a bad ending for it, that and that I didnt do much sidequesting lol. Second playthrough was a more symbiotic relationship and you can dig pretty deep in Johnny's personality.
It felt weird in the beginning having someone who looks and sounds like Keanu being such a prick at the beginning of the game. But even with his style of acting you could feel the character and your opinion of him change as the game went on. Maybe I get too emotionally invested into games, but I'll happily admit this is the most connected I've felt to any of Keanu's characters so far.
Glad somebody else also thinks Johnny is Keanu's best performance. Cause it is. By far.
The way he created a specific speech pattern for Johnny is the highlight for me. The long vowels and the characteristic cadence are instantly recognizable, and the few moments when the pattern is broken just emphasise whatever Johnny says. It's a great role, and Keanu trully delivered it.

I think Keanu delivers his line exactly how an aged alcoholic war veteran would, dude's just fucking tired of explaining why he is right lol, truly it's his best role! Loved Johnny and the way Keanu played him, wouldn't change it for anything else, this probably the best incorporation of celebrity talent in video game industry yet.

I’m sorry maybe an unpopular opinion I love Johnny Silverhands character and how Keanu Reeves delivers his performance of Silverhand. It’s Keanu getting to let loose. I love how he’s always included in everything too. Great point about Johnny influencing your decisions while playing the game.

There's a whole bunch of people who say they would prefer the original version, (the crazier one) even though they don't know what he'd be like, I think Keanu played Johnny really well for a jaded, emotionless, war veteran.
While I can agree that some of the scenes were great... I feel like this is one of his most wooden performances, still having a blast with the game
I still think his best role is John Wick. He is a serious 3 gun competitor and trains really hard for the shootout scenes.
Silverhand is a follower/companion who is interesting, has a lot to say, but never blocks the doorway or jumps in front of you as you are aiming. After something interesting happens my V is often looking around to see if he is okay. As the game progresses she forgets that he is in her head.
with the power of that chip we all can be one keanu. till the day when all are one!
Mr Reeves is just a joy. He is portrayed as such a genuine nice guy it's something I want to strive to be like.

I would agree its his best role, partly because all of his best roles involve him being outwardly overconfident but inwardly unsure of himself. Johnny Silverhand is an awesome character because he is a bit of a dick but also he kind of knows it and he really does want to make the world a better place but doesn't know how beyond tear it all down and grows in the game to realize this himself, yet still wants to make the a better world regardless even if now hes less sure how.
To V hes both a father and a child, they learn off each other both naive in different ways and contrasts brilliantly with the over overoptimism of Jackie Welles with a cynicism that's just as misplaced in its application, reality lies between the two extremes. I think this might be the best story in video games mostly because unlike The last of us part II it doesn't say 'think this' like poor art and propaganda but 'what do you think?' and 'now what do you think?' as the story progresses, like all great art it asks questions but leaves the answer open to interpretation.
While I am still just fantasizing about being a gamer like many of you, I am at gratified to learn, I was really right after all. Reeves, is Johnny Silverhands. That's just so cool.
Could you possibly do a video exploring how a cyberpunk themed game could be made into a TV/Netflix/Amazon series and/or which ones would be suitable? I keep thinking how incredible a game Ruiner was and how it has so much more potential than just being this arcade shooter given the atmosphere it created was more impactful than the gameplay itself, and CP2077 could probably translate exceedingly well also given the rich lore which it has to it. I'm not the most clued up on any other cyberpunk themed things but figure you guys are infinitely more knowledgeable
Hey Allen I was just playing cyberpunk and a guy came on the radio and said something along the lines of "Biotechnica taught is teaching dolphins how to speak and read English by showing the dolphins a brain dance of human children learning show to speak and read." the guy then goes on to say "its a shame dolphins can only survive in lab tanks, I'd like to see them take a crack at world domination".

This game is a masterpiece. I come from the old retro console era and this snowflakes talking about graphics have no idea what makes a real good game. Bugs will be solved and the truth is other companies are milking your wallet while Cyberpunk is pure greatness.
Yes please proceed to tell me how big of a snowflake I am! My favorite part about the game was when my save files were corrupted and items dissapeared from collecting 1 too many trinkets!
Stop with the weird fan boy blanket statements. You completely disregard 10s of thousands of people with totally valid concerns and issues with the game.
I love the game too but that's only because I was lucky enough to not encounter any of the major bugs people are reporting. Even with that fact, I have to acknowledge that it shouldn't have been launched in the state it was. The console version was just downright shameful. If you want to convince people that the game has good storytelling, maybe start by not calling them "snowflakes".

On my 1st playthrough I hated Johnny's guts, due to the fact how he was slowly taking the spotlight from this amazing character that is V, but I grown to like him a little bit. But I do hope for a DLC that takes after some of the ending to give a more satisfying ending for our beloved V, I think he/she deserves it.

The fact that you know it’s Keanu Reeves but his performance makes him into Johnny silverhand. Like this not Keanu saying this it’s Johnny, a dickhead rocker boy.
I think the problem is that some ppl came to this game searching for a GTA with neon lights, instead they found something more like a FO, a deep side quest story driven game, and was like: "well, don't get enough from the main missions, too short, not nice, not enough Keanu etc." When in the end, the guy practically didn't played the game as it was ment to be played, exploring, doing side missions, taking your time to get the most of it, I know the game has its fair share of problems and bugs, but dude, not a bad and empty game by any means as some ppl are taking.
Glad I'm not the only one thinking most folks came at this thinking it was GTA with chrome lol.
That's not cyberpunk. I'm really happy with the way the world looks and feels like NightCity so far. Needs more fistfights, some in your face pimps, juvegangers and yogangers fighting for turf and that one..dumb...strawberry haired Cop with a real heart of gold all tossed in there with a heaping big bowl of kibble n attitude lol. But that's not really mechanics to be honest.
Gona keep watching how things go...but I gota say, while Keanu don't look like the original as much...he's now my go to version of Johnny.
@@silverbane8065 in my humble opinion, CDPR went way further to develop a coherent design for the game, it looks way more believable than the source material, Keanu doesn't look like Johnny indeed, but he fits way better Johnny's character than the RPG representation, also Alt looks amazingly perfect, Rogue too, Smasher also looks amazing, they did a pretty good job to make the world immersive, relatable and believable, also, Refuse as Samurai sounded awesome.
@@silverbane8065 My only problem with Silverhand 2077 is that he seems to be very different from Silverhand 2020/2013 personalitywise. The original Johnny was not the sociopathic asshole 2077 Johnny is. It's almost like they mixed Johnny's personality with that of an actual paranoid sociopath with a hateboner for all corps, Rache Bartmoss.

Sure, after the events of 'never fade away' (pnp version) poor Johnny is a lot more like the one we see in 77. He hates Arasaka and the other corps a lot. His music becomes more political, lyrics wise. And he's a lot colder too. But he uses song, not warheads, to try to take them out. (Tho it turns out Biotechnica has it in for him more than Arasaka, they are the ones that assassinated him, twice. Found my old stuff and checked lol)
Guess they wanted a bigger ah....impact....(lol) to Johnny, a way for today's kids to see him (possibly, if you treat him right) change more. Guess subtle isn't as big a thing as it used to be, that, or modern has so much edge, even its edges have edges?
@@silverbane8065 I'd have liked them to flash out more the transition from idealistic(ish) to nihilistic Johnny instead of barely covering those 3 years between Never Fade Away and... boom. Trauma can fester a lot in 3 years, and I can totally see the original Johnny going down that keanuisation path with a bit of good writing.
That said, they had to make him an asshole for the whole his growth arc in the game to be more pronounced. In this aspect, the writing in this game is superb. He grows (on you, also) enough to actually make the final choice a hard one.

Keanu Reeves plays Keanu Reeves in all his movies. He's Keanu Reeves 'as Neo' or 'as John Wick'.
But I gradually stopped seeing Keanu in Cyberpunk, and just started seeing Johnny Silverhand, he's more like Keanu Reeves asshole cousin. ^^
I thought Keanu's performance was terrible personally. Nothing will top Neo.

At first I was annoyed by Silverhand in the game. But as the game went on he quickly grew on me and I became friends with him (as much as you can a voice in your head). The ending choice was perhaps the hardest thing to do. It took me awhile to decide who would get the body. I rationalized that Silverhand had his time and that there still may be hope out there for me to find some fix. So I let him spend eternity with the lady online. I figured at least he would still continue to live (more or less).
I couldn't see myself giving him my body. Though if they gave me a choice of "You can swap yourself into a new body and Johnny gets your old one", I would have picked that.

I think that's where the game is aiming for.. with the whole hidden rouge AI storyline in the background... i think Alt might be working on getting a body for her and others and enter the world again...
