      Awesome!!! They're great! I'll be getting more in the near future, we have another portable shed that will be moved to our property. Great stuff!

    Peeps, consider pilot drilling for the lags minor diameter when placing a lag that close to the end of the wood to avoid splitting ,now,or later.

    The anchors look durable, but I figure you spend over $120 for 4 anchors and straps. To anchor small sheds and building I buy those cheap 3' "U post" and drive them in the ground at each corner and maybe 1 addition on long sides of building. That would cost about $30 for 6 posts. I don't always comment, Sam, but I do always watch.

      I just looked at his link for those exact earth anchors on Amazon... $119.09 EACH !!! Yeah, you read that correctly - a 4-pack would cost $476 + tax = $511 !!!!!!! Yikes. I'd go with 5'-6' T-Post fence posts and drive them 4'-5' down. I don't know if my tractor could even pull those out and it would cost about $30-$40 for everything. I wonder if what he used was required by code.

      I have 3 skid sheds on blocks. Never anchored. 17 years and none of them budged. Now, my 2 cheap metal sheds I used pickets before but the recent one on simple gravel I will use a cable routed up inside over the Stringer The other a simple post cemented in high enough to screw framing on. Permits? Who gets permits? 17 years only got 1 permit and that was to remodel garage. I am out in a county so can do whatever I want. The reason for permits for structures is for the county to appraise the value higher. In GA I got a permit for metal roof..County came out and saw a metal shed, wood porch, etc...We didn't see this stuff like 10 years ago. We just bought it. My assessment was raised the following year because " structures." Think my county in TX was like projects over a certain amount. I got duct tape and old 2x4s. While building cost like 50 bucks. 😂

  • @RogueCow
    @RogueCow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Appreciate you covering the importance of permits and codes.
    When i built my deck i pulled a permit for it despite everyone asking me why i would bother.
    I’d say it was worth it for the peace of mind of having a professional okay the design and make sure the build was safe for myself, and future owners.

    • @Samcraftcom
      @Samcraftcom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Precisely! :) Plus for us, since we are "building" our home here very soon, the county inspectors will be on the land at the same time. Obviously they'd notice a newly build building on what was last recorded as bare land. :)

    • @WesleyJolly
      @WesleyJolly 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And perhaps more importantly, your homeowner's insurance will cover things that happen out there, hopefully no one ever gets hurt, but if they do, and you did not pull that permit and get the inspection, your insurance company could tell you they aren't required to cover illegal additions, leaving you completely on the hook for all liability.

    Those are really cool Sam! We had to do 4' screws every 8' on the metal building, probably because we're in a hurricane zone, 130mph engineer wind rating was required. They weren't as beefy as yours, but the screw part was 4" across. They were screwed in before the concrete was poured and had a plate and bolt that attached above the finished slab and through the metal framing. I'm enjoying the build videos!

  • @benjaminlhargrave

    The ground anchors may handle x tons but how much will the lag screws attached to the house handle? 200 lbs?

    Sam, You are very lucky. I'm in the process of building my shed, 12X20, and the permit process and building is a nightmare. I started 1 1/2 years ago. Engineer drawings, foundation footings (18"x24"), a ton of rebar, Hardy barrier etc. My workshop has three times as many anchor bolts then my 20x20 garage. Nice to watch you go through your build. Keep up the great work.

    Great videos Sam. Question I would have for you and the anchors though is your land looks like it is/was farm land and probably tilled over a lot. I would be interested to know if those anchors could really do the rated pull or even anywhere close to it. I would be curious to see a test pull on those. Would not be cheap though unless you had access to a pull scale. But hopefully they do the job at least good enough to pass code. If you had access to a pull scale capable of a ton and your brothers tractor it would be an interesting test.

    Those anchors will work if a cow farts in the pasture but if a storm hits, they're worthless. Anchors strength are proportional to their installation effort and those anchors were just slightly more difficult to drive than a drywall screw.

Coreless tool ios more money for professional time saver, but manual labor makes more torque with leverge tahn a stupid driver JUST TO SECURE THE SHED YOU ARE SPENDING $400 (INCLUDE THE SILLY DRIVER)

    Duuuhd. So many problems here. First, you're lagging into non-piloted wood and at the very end of 4x4's - and if those are PT (which at that elevation they better be) - noh noh noh. That's going to split really bad. Next, you're lagging anchors into what appears to be the beams on top of which you're floor joists are sitting - and in turn your structure is just nailed to. Let me put that another way - you are nailed to the ground.
    Look - the ground anchors are great. I've got some in which I've embedded in concrete with rebar. What you've done - no. Simply no.
    For your audience. No. This is not how to anchor squat. Squat looks down upon this and says absolutely not.

  • @josephbohme7917
    @josephbohme7917 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    THOSE GROUND SCREWS ARE SO WRONG FOR THIS WORK BECAUSE THE TENSIL STRENGTH IS SO WAY OVER & ABOVE THE NEED. Even a 1 inch diameter of aluminium would be safe to break at 13,000 pounds to 80,000 pounds (alloy chosen) Yous say 1000 per corner if you just cabled the perimeter and sent two in, it would have never broken. But the soil is & was the issue. The pull out force. Just try pulling a horizontal block of 4x8x8 concrete buried 3 feet down, it would beat hell out of these cabled screws. Everyone is buying into all the hyped tech for no reason. We have made our own demise even making Simpson the defact Mafia enforcer of any project. There stupid assemblies are costing thousands even on small builds. We can even make this stuff at home now mewlting aluminum cans Bulk ton is @ $2000 so $1 a pound and these PE18 screws are basically even at 1" , a solid rod diameter (they are less via threads) of 18" is 1.5 pounds. And these cost over $30 each.. I would rather use a 12" x 36" Concrete pier/post pouring 2 - 80 pound bags for even $10 and place a 3/4" x long J bolt. Again money makes the decisions.
