Great idea on forming a tool to drive the hurricane anchors into the ground! FYI, you should drive hurricane anchors into the ground at a 45 degree angle, to provide a stronger anchor. With each side at a 45 degree angle, the anchors won't pull out in heavy wind. With the anchors at 45 degrees, there will always be a side where the anchors are being forced INTO the ground by the wind. That's a super strong anchor. Hope this helps.
my friend thought i was weird for putting them in at an angle. i actually didn't know that was the proper way but i had to fix a leaning tree with ratchet straps so it didnt make much sense for them to be perpendicular to the ground
Thanks: I had anchors that needed to be removed and I had installed them before with a three point hitch auger, but it doesn't reverse so this was the perfect solution to be able to reverse and back them out of the ground.
That's a really cool idea Mike! .. Love your videos and ideas since years! .. Whenever I have to do similar stuff I start by slowly watering let's say 10 Liters of water direct to the location 1 day before .. I repeat that ~10 hours bofore starting the real work. The water sinks down and loosens the ground .. maybe not completely to the depth you need for your application .. but it sure helps.
In my case it had been raining for a week prior. I was standing in shallow water while I was doing it. Couldn't get much wetter unless it was up to my knees. That did help soften things up some.
I’m doing mine today but Half of my carport is on paved driveway and the other half is hanging off the driveway onto a grass slope. Im going to dig a bury the first railroad tie and anchor that with these anchors lag bolted into the base tie. I’ll stack another tie on top of base tie and I’ll be level. Im going to lag bolt the top tie to the base tie and then anchor them together with heavy steel mending plates along the face of the ties. Then I will lag bolt the carport base to the ties. The concrete driveway side of the carport base will be anchored directly to the concrete using expandable anchors like they use when installing vehicle lifts on an auto shop. The wind will ripe the roof off of the carport before it ever yanks the anchors and ties out of the ground. I love your tool set up…..pretty cool. I’m wondering if I could fashion something like that up to my Bosch hammer drill using a through bolt through the pre drilled bolt holes in the anchor and welding something up to fit the hammer drill.
Awesome video.. and fyi sir i noticed so i have to tell you .my buddy wore socks to tight like yourself ..he had a heart attack from the socks cutting off his circulation... take care
Wish he would have shown how to attach it to the carport. does the carport tubing fit into the opening of the anchor or does he drill a hole through the carport and bolt it?
Hi Mike. This is fantastic. The only issue of course is that I dont weld so I have no way of getting one of those cool metal devices that you connect to your Pneumatic wrench. Considering that earth augers are commonly sold why on earth dont people make that tool to sell to others? Mystery for sure.
Yeah im going to build one of these. Im about to buy a shipping container for a shed/storm shelter and plan on putting these around it to make sure it dont move, even in rhe worst of storms
Sorry for the late reply. I'd probably cut a slot in the pipe nipple big enough for the eyelet with an angle grinder. Then the same tool could do either type.
I used four on the side sitting on dirt. The side sitting on concrete got 5 expansion anchors. All this will just keep the thing from blowing away or shifting in moderate winds. If we get a strong hurricane, all bets are off. If the wind doesn't rip the anchors out of the ground, then it will probably strip the sheet metal off the thing.
If any of you are anchoring down a shed or larger building remember to dig down a foot or more depending on the length of your anchor a 10" wide hole around your anchor to pour concrete.
You are better off drilling into undisturbed earth. Digging first just means you put a 60 pound weight of concrete on top of an anchor only a foot or so into the ground.
What brand anchors are those I'm wanting to get a carport not planning on pouring concrete and we live around flat farm land get full force winds occasionally and wanting to do this
I'm not sure what brand they are. I just went to a mobile home supply place and picked up some. I did a quick search on Amazon and found similar ones: amzn.to/3AruSjW
You gave me the answer I've been searching. They come out as easy as they go in.

Superb trick! Thank you very much for sharing it with us!

Very useful. Thanks. How do you attach it to the carport? I am going to build a playhouse for my grandkids and I want to anchor it down.
Thank you for that video I was thinking about using my electric impac I'm going to give it a try for sure now great video
You are a hero! Thanks for posting!
Finally a good installation video. Thanks.
but he didn't show or say how he attaches the anchors to the carport.

man i really wish you had shown us how you tie them into the carport and buildings
same
The drilled bolt holes in the anchor is a dead give away.
You bolt them to the side of the carport base.
There are two kinds of people:
1. Those who can extrapolate from available data.
2.
Some use a flat band steel strap that goes over the top.
A piece of square tubing would have been great 😉
Just curious how it handled the hurricane? Also how long where those anchors, 36”? Thanks

U-bolts around the legs of the carport and through the screw holes in the tops of the anchors.
@@omegageek64 awesome. ty for such a fast reply. do you know where to get those anchors and how long should they be?
@@A.C.71 See link in video description.

Coming soon to a store near you - Mike's world famous Auger Anchor Drivers!
How are you attaching the anchor to the structure? Great tool adaptation!!
excellent idea, thanks
Great for mobile home. I used an electric 1/2" impact.😊
Great video, im doing this weekend.......Can I use a hammer drill its been raining ground is soft?????? I dont have a impact drill????
Give it a try. Let me know how it works.
@@omegageek64 Thx,will do👍

Sand you say?
Try that in Virginia hard red clay where I have the pleasure.
Enjoyed your video.
Mass produce that auger tool u made I'd buy it
I was not expecting you to have the same idea as me when i started this video😂. Weld up a cheap socket and go for it
How are you attaching the frame to the anchor?.
3:00 Tip: Always call your local power/water/gas utilities to have lines marked. In my state it's a free service.
great idea !!!
NICE! Just what I was looking for! Now I gotta buy a welder - lol!! as good a reason as any!
3:26 Thtat sure does look like sparking between the tie down and the shale there. Hit something?
Awesome, any tips on making one for the ground anchors with the eyelet at top?

I live in the North Carolina mountains. My soil is super rocky. What do I use? Thank you sir.

Nice. How many of these anchors per side?

Where did you get the anchors?

How big was your compressor
@@kenrebro2746 Not big enough. 30 gallon. The bigger the better.
awesome idea. thanks
Brilliant!
How big of a compressor do you need?
The bigger the better. You can do it with a small one, but you'll have to stop frequently to let the pressure build up again.

No concrete necessary

@@omegageek64 cool cool yeah had a coworker said vet trailer house anchors thankyou
Do you think this would be sufficient enough to secure an RV down???
It would be a lot better than not anchoring. And would take out a lot of the shake out when someone walks in the rv
Done! Done! 👍🏻
Good job white bread
Dig a hole with some post hole diggers insert anchor fill hole dirt will settle in a few days
Thanks
Love the bandage... from the first one? Lol
Not happening here where the clay is like concrete. Good for many other places I’m sure.
Looks like sandy soil. Thats a piece of cake. I believe thst wont wkrk in this deep south Texas concrete type soil.
Do you really think anybody’s gonna weld and create that contraction you created?
Sooo Hoew attach to carport??
U-Bolts that go around the legs of the carport and through holes in the augers.
Dig pilot hole a foot and a half first
It is usefull
If I had a welder I could do this at home, but I don't have a welder so this does me no good haha
Take care not to hit, electric lines, phone lines, water lines, etc..
yeah let me just go learn to weld and buy a welding machine yep no worries
Nice concept. Poor technique. Why not remove your existing mounting pieces and drill underneath them?
Never take home improvement advice from a guy with a hand like that.
