You should be using both bobbin cases. Just like your hats, have your second bobbin case set up and ready to swap out as soon as you’re low. Since you don’t want to have a bobbin change mid hat, change it every 3-4 hats depending on stitch count. With a single head shop, it’s all about workflow and keeping the machine running with as little downtime as possible. Also, none of those 112s or YPs need backing. Most structured hats don’t need it. It can get caught up on the sewing arm and cause shreds and birds nests. We run Madeira Polyneon thread and Madeira sideless bobbin on our 2 8-head and 4 1-head machines. If that workload keeps up, you’re going to need a multi-head machine soon! And don’t forget the sweatband!
@ I run 2 Ricoma CHT1508s (8-heads), 2 Ricoma MT1501s (single head) and 2 Melco EMT16s (single head). If I had to choose between the Ricoma and Melco single heads, the Ricoma stitches out equivalent to Tajima and Barudan at half the price and the customer service is top-notch, but the Melco software integration is much more convenient. We primarily use the Melcos for name personalization.
Don’t forget the sweatband 😂😂 wow Sam thats an amazing machine! Love seeing your shop in fully functional condition with all those machines!! Im finally down to hopefully the final 3 weekends and my shop will be ready to finally move into! I love that your son wants to learn how to help you with the business!
Great video!!! Love how you are not afraid to jump into something new. So many questions about getting sales and business in general. I’m starting new. Oh and Don’t forget the sweat band.
Don't forget the sweatband 😋. I started off using Madeira thread, but changed over to candle thread. At $5.50 for a large cone it's hard to beat the price. I know they have a minimum order to get free shipping but that has never been a problem meeting the minimum. I currently use a Ricoma EM-1010 embroidery machine and it seems to work just fine for hats and flats. Every problem I have had has been user error. And it was awesome seeing you being able to spend time with your son and teach them the trade. Thanks for sharing.
Great job with the hats!!! (Don't forget the sweatband..) Thanks for all the detail you share and taking us along the ride of your businesses!! My husband and I really appreciate it!! Take care and may God overwhelm you and your family with blessings! Also, thanks for the great custom garden tags! Thank your wife too for the great soap!!
Hi Sam, I've been thinking about the Smartstitch and so glad I found your channel while searching for info on this machine. You seem very happy with your purchase and the customer service provided from the manufacturer. I'm going to be watching very closely. Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks. I'm hoping to learn more from you so I can learn more quickly, without having to make and work thru the same frustrations. BTW, I think it's terrific that your son wants to learn this business, and that you are willing to teach him; good job!!! And he'll remember this too! 😊
awesome video - thats for taking me on the hat creation journey. Just received my 15 color machine and about to go on the very same journey you are on!!
Another good tip Sam... Place thread spools closer on the machine based on the design colors to cut down on the needle travel time when thread color changes occur when embroidering.
Don't forget the sweatband xD I also had to learn digitizing due to unreliable outsourcing, and it is great to be able to fix things like that and eventually make the machine stitch smarter and faster
I happened upon your channel while searching for a topic for my home embroidery machine, and I'm really enjoying it. I would love to see a demonstration of how you use your heat gun to set the stitching. After watching your video, I tried to find other information on this and came up short. I did find one using a heat gun after using puff foam, but I couldn't find anything on setting hat stitching in general. Thanks!
Great video Sam! I also use newbrothread for the same reasons! Lol big spools, easiest to order on Amazon, and i hadnt noticed a difference in quality at all!
One thing I’ve noticed with my 1501 is the display timer vs actual time is quite a bit different. It might say it takes 10 minutes but it’s actually several minutes more than that, guess I need to check with Smartstitch. Great video and don’t forget the sweatband 👍
Don’t forget the sweatband. Lol. Great job. I’m glad I stumbled across your video again. Definitely liked and subscribed. Also, I’m not sure if you made a video yet about how you price your custom hats. If not, could you make one? Thanks again.
I usually don't follow the crowd but, DON'T FORGET THE SWEAT BAND! Maybe do some socks too🤗 Hi Angela and The Boys! Have a blessed week and a festive fourth! ✌️💖🙏🇺🇲🎉🎆🎇
I think that goofed up hat was an inexpensive lesson to learn from. A $3-5 hat and it's almost guaranteed he won't make that "whoops" again. Secondly, I just ordered a hat from the MLB shop and it had hoop marks on it. Like the hoops were put on too tight and it caused a pressure ring or something. Last, I have to rewatch this video, even though I don't have an embroidery machine (lol), I had it on in the background while I was doing something else and I need to pick up some tips. Who knows when or where I'll end up needing them.
Sometimes you can move the “start location” on a letter that is giving you problems on the tie in. I notice problems more on letters that are low on the hat, next to the bill. Don’t forget to flip the sweatband.😂
Are you wishing you had built your shop a little bigger yet? Looks like you’re out of wall space! Would love to hear more about your journey into Lasers and now embroidery…always curious about how people ended up where they are. DFTS!!
Don't forget the sweatband. I am awaiting delivery of my Smartstitch 1501, I noticed you were using a cordless heat gun, can you give me some information on your heat gun? Thank you for your incredible videos, I love watching your channel and learning. Keep up the Great work! Absolutely LOVE the idea of you teaching your son, THAT'S AMAZING!
Great video. I don't know How I found your channel it just popped up but I am really enjoying it. I am definitely subscribing and will be watching more of your videos. I love your enthusiasm and you're being very informative which is 100 plus. I've been embroidering for oh I don't know 20 off and on years and had a little shop but nothing compared to what you have You have like the mega funds shop I would love to come and just be your apprentice for free for a while just to see all your really cool machines. I think you're going to be very successful with your business God bless you sweetheart
My sister is getting her business off the ground soon we have all the machines and materials just waiting on the state to give us the paperwork for the business name that we paid for like your video
how do you work with structured hats? I find I am breaking needles left and right and it bounces a LOT... Just curious as this seemed to go so smoothly!
Hi Mr.Sam, I'm wanting to purchase the SmartStitch S1501 Embriodery Machine, but I have a quick question hopefully you can answer. I understand that the mighty Hoops are compatable with this s1501? Is there a certain step I need to make to add those hoops onto my machine or are they already programmed in the machine ? and would you happen to have a video on those steps on added the mighty hoops? Thank you so much for these videos on The SmartStitch Embriodery Machine I so appreciate you!
I don't have a video on those steps just yet, but it is very easy. There is also a great group of fellow Smartstitch users on Facebook that have uploaded files and instructional posts too. I don't think you will regret getting this machine, I have had great success with it and am only really getting started. :) When you look to purchasing Mighty Hoops, you want the Tajima compatible hoops. This is a Tajima clone machine as I understand it. Feel free to email me with any other questions!
Nice job.. and I think it's great that your son was interested in what you do . Moments to be cherished. God bless
"Don't forget the sweatband." Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

quick question, who do you use for a digitizer, for logos?
@DjChadow what 1 head machine are you using to embroider with?

Good to see your son being interested, that's me all those years ago. Great video, look forward to the next 🙂
I enjoyed the workday walk through. Thank you.
I might be putting in an order soon, just don't forget the sweatband.
awesome video - thats for taking me on the hat creation journey. Just received my 15 color machine and about to go on the very same journey you are on!!
Dang Sam those hats look great and the shop you built looks nice enough to live in

2 Casualties not bad at all! Hats came out cleeeeaan! Huge thanks for linking me below as well, greatly appreciated sir!
I use the Brothread also and have no issues with it. I've also used Maderna and seems to work fine.
Like your down to earth view on things. Don't forget the sweat band.
Don’t forget the sweatband. I enjoyed the show
Don’t forget the sweat band. Great job!
Woe! Thanks for sharing the process. Don't forget the sweatband!

Don’t forget the sweatband. Great video and thanks for sharing.

Don’t for get the sweat band. Thank you for your awesome and fun videos. I learned a lot, may God give many more blessings.
Don’t forget the sweet band! (lol close enough) Thanks for the video. 😀
When you get closer to the bill, needle deflection can become more common. That can cause missed bobbin pickup or shredded thread.
Don’t forget the sweatband! Great video😊
Don’t forget the sweatband. Lol. Great job. I’m glad I stumbled across your video again. Definitely liked and subscribed.

As always....Sam you are amazing on teaching. ..
AWESOME TIPS, lol 1st time i see you, great sense of humor man. Great vid, will follow you!
Fil-Tec Magna-Glide Embroidery Bobbins are the best bobbins. I don't have to deal with tension issues at all
Nice Quality stitching... Really came out nice
Don't forget the sweatband. But seriously great videos thank you for the time you spend on them they are really informative.
Loved the video Sam. Don't forget the sweatband.
Have you tried Fil-Tec Magna glide bobbins? Magnetic bobbins. I love them for embroidery.
Dont forget the sweat band :)
Great video for someone like me thinking about getting into the "hobby"... :)
Don't forget the sweatband, thanks for filming your journey
Don't forget the sweatband, I really enjoyed your video (as always) even though I don't think it's something I'll ever do but who knows.

Love your videos! I’ve inherited an embroidery machine keen to start up my own little business. How do you work out pricing for embroidery?
Don't forget the sweatband. Inspiring video
I will always check the sweatband. Lol
Another great video! Quick question, do you have a video on you digitizing the logos with the software you have?
dont forget the sweatband Sam
And remember, don't forget the sweatband!
Good afternoon.
Don’t forget the sweatband we have all done it!!❤😊
Which hats do you use??
Sometimes you can move the “start location” on a letter that is giving you problems on the tie in. I notice problems more on letters that are low on the hat, next to the bill. Don’t forget to flip the sweatband.😂
I watched your video earlier today and absolutely loved it. Which software do you use? Thanks.
Hey Sam, thinking about pulling the trigger on a Smart Sticth 1501 today. Are you still happy with yours? Any additional advice?
The link to the heat gun should be in the video description. It's a plug in type though. It is probably a little underpowered too. :)
@@Samcraftcom Thank you, I have a corded one, just thought the cordless would be easier to use. Thank you for the quick response.

My sister is getting her business off the ground soon we have all the machines and materials just waiting on the state to give us the paperwork for the business name that we paid for like your video
When do you get another machine to double your output capacity?
You don’t need a sweat band 😳😜 Looking Good!
What was you initial start up cost? Awesome video
Don't forget the sweatband. 😜
how do you work with structured hats? I find I am breaking needles left and right and it bounces a LOT... Just curious as this seemed to go so smoothly!
At the end of the day Sam, from a business point of view, did you make a profit? Or did you make the self employed rate of $10/hr?
Don’t forget that the video generates revenue for him. It’s not all about sales with content creators.
Do the thread break/repair/redo leave a weak spot where months down the road the stitches may start to unravel??????
Don't forget the sweatband.❤
New to the scene do you know is there a difference between smart stich and opex 1201 embroidery machines I would appreciate your feedback
👍😃Danke für das Video.
Gute Arbeit.
What model is that machine? I’m looking to add this service to my business.
Sam, what do you do to get orders for hats, etc?
Thanks for the video Sam. Wanna ask which Richardson cap exactly are you using? Seem to be a lot of variants by the link.
These are the 112 hats.
Don’t forget the sweatband
great video Sam, would like to know how much the job paid
Have you had any break downs since your purchase😊

What was the top thread tension reading?
Don't forget the sweatband!
Don't forget the sweatband. .
How do you price your hats for an order of 500 , is there a better place to get richardson 112 hats other than Amazon ? Thank you for your time
