  • CORRECTION: The unit can accept up to 64GB microSD card. Large screen, bright colors, clear reflection, wide field of view, straight forward installation and interface. Amazon Affiliate Product Link: geni.us/HMGAw1
    You’ll receive the dashboard camera, instruction manual, 32GB microSD card, plastic trim tool, rear camera, with mounting screws and double sided tape, reset pin tool, 17.5 foot long rear camera cable, 11 ft miniUSB accessory port adapter with right-angle connector, and two rubber strap bands. The dashboard camera measures 12 inches wide, 2.75 inch tall, and 1.25 inches thick. The mirror reflection of it is very clear and crisp. On the back, is the front camera lens, stereo external speakers, and reset pinhole. Along the top you have a GPS input port, microSD card slot, rear camera A/V input, and miniUSB charging port. On the bottom, you’ve got the power button, and microphone. The 4 hooks on the back are used with the rubber bands to attach the unit to your existing rearview mirror.
    The unit has a small internal battery in it that can run it for 15 - 20 minutes continuously unpowered. This camera accepts up to 64 GB Class 10 microSD cards. When installing the card, be sure to insert it with the gold contacts facing the side with the lens and push it in until it clicks.
    The video quality of the LCD is quite clear with high screen resolution. The resolution is noted on the screen as well as a running time counter, a date and time stamp in the middle, microphone status, as well as a battery life indicator. The lens of the camera is on a ball joint and can be swiveled to set the angle and direction. Install this dashcam over your existing rearview mirror by attaching the rubber straps to the hooks over the back side of your existing mirror. Because the lens extends out from the left side, your driver side visor may make contact with the now longer mirror.
    After installing the rear camera out the outside of the trunk just above the license plate, I ran the wire into the trunk and hooked it up to the rear input cable. I also wanted it to come on automatically when the car is put in reverse gear. For this I had to wire the back camera to the car’s reverse light bulb connector. With the power cable plugged into an accessory port that is only live when the car is turned on, when I start the car, the camera starts up automatically and begins recording. When I put the car in reverse, it automatically switches to the rear camera and puts up the reverse guide lines.
    To toggle between the cameras, swipe left from the center of the screen, or view both cameras at the same time in a split screen mode. The enter playback mode, swipe right from the center of the screen. To adjust the brightness swipe up and down on the right hand side of the screen and to change the vertical field of view, swipe up and down on the left side of the screen. To lock a recording and save it as important so that it doesn’t get overwritten, tap the lock icon along the bottom. The record button will change to yellow and there will be a yellow progress bar along the bottom. To view locked files, in playback mode, tap the folder name and select front or rear urgent video.
    At 2K quality, a 5 minute clip from the front camera takes up about 400 MB. Conversely at 1080p, a 5 minute clip from the front camera takes up about 250 MB. The video is clear and sharp with accurate colors, nice saturation, and decent white balance. The rear camera footage at 1080p, averages around 350 MB per 5 minute clip and at 2K, is around 500 MB. The video from this lens is also nice and clear with plenty of detail and you can really see the difference between the two resolutions in the image quality and clarity. At night, lighter areas of the image captured are brightened, but sometimes to the point where they can get washed out and you lose some clarity.
    The audio in the video is identical for the front and rear camera feeds for the same recorded period. It’s fairly clear, though voices are kind of faint even when both speakers are sitting in the front seats. With the LCD off, the mirror looks pretty much like a normal rearview mirror, though it’s quite a bit wider than my original mirror providing a nice and clear wide angle view.
    The quality of the video and audio are very good for this type of camera, the LCD screen is large, and I found the interface to be pretty easy to use. I do wish there was a pass-through USB port on the plug for charging or powering other devices, but other than that I found the camera works well and captures high definition video from both the front and rear cameras with amazing high detail, color, brightness, and clarity.

      Hey thanks for your question. I checked the manual again, and I'm afraid I misspoke in the video. The max capacity for the card is 64GB according to the specs, though I was not able to independently verify this with a higher capacity card. I made a note of this correction in the description. The unit comes with a 32 GB card.

    You've helped me finally find a dash cam that fits my needs. I've had a hard time finding any with physical buttons that allow for manual locking of files. I finally decided to look at the touch screen cams & found this one! I like that this one has so many options, including toggling off the start up sound & the beeps. I had a push-button E-prance (that sadly died recently) which allowed me to turn off any beeps or whatnot & has the "SOS" button. I tried 2 other push-button cams, but wasn't able to turn off the start up/shut down tone (loud & annoying) or the beeps. After viewing your video, I made my decision to get the DMYCO. Thank you!

    hi.i have a similer dashcam from wortip brand.my videos on playback only last roughly 10 seconds have you any idea of the problem?also it doesn't start recording automatically I have to start it my self.thank you

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I'm not familiar with that brand, short video clips may be due to a number of factors. It could be that the SD card you are using isn't large or fast enough, the dashcam requires a minimum of 2 GB with a Class 10 speed. Another reason could be if your dashcam has a motion detection setting that is turned on, this could be causing it to record only short clips instead of continuously. If the camera does not power on and start recording automatically this could be because your cigarette lighter adapter is always powered and does not cut the power when the engine is turned off. In that case the camera does not receive a signal for when you've started the car or not so won't start recording automatically. Again, I don't know if the camera you have is exactly the same because I haven't used that brand. If you have any other questions the seller or manufacturer could probably answer them better.

    Are there any 3M sticker pads to mount the rear cam on the inside rear glass instead of screwing it on the outside?

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It comes with one sticker pad, but due to the curvature of the glass, I'm not sure how the angle of the video would look. I haven't tried it, so I'm not sure if you would need to modify the bracket the rear camera is in to make it look right in the display. You also probably wouldn't be able to hook up the reverse guidelines cable without extending it somehow, though I'm not sure the placement would be right either if the camera is inside the car (the proportions and angles would be off since the guidelines cannot be customized/adjusted).

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, sorry about that. I know Dmyco only sells their brand in the US and Canada, so if you're outside those regions, you'll see a different set of results for the dashcam in the link. There are many companies selling the same camera under different brand names, so if the specs and features line up, it will very likely function in the same way as the camera in my video. I don't know about Chimcom specifically.

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, I don't know if the OEM camera pre-installed on a car could be compatible with the dashcam. It's more than likely that built-in backup cameras won't have compatible connectors as I've not heard of anyone using a factory installed camera with an aftermarket dashcam DVR.

    What is the default resolution for dual recording? Auto adjust to 1080? Or can choose between front and rear reso?

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The default is 1080p/2K and you have to choose in the settings which resolution you want for the front camera. The rear camera will default to the other, so if you choose 1080p in the settings, the front records 1080p while the rear records 2K and vice versa.

    Great video, just a quick question, Is there any rattle sound at the rearview dash cam when you go over any speed bump ?
    Seems like the dash cam will hit the "factory" rear mirror. Thanks in advanced.

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The camera will record whatever noises are happening in your cabin when you go over a speed bump, whether that's the camera shaking a bit or the thump of your wheels and shocks going over the speed bump. In general, if you've got the rubber bands on tight enough there is no "gap" between the factory mirror and the dashcam so there's no rattle in that respect. The dashcam should be right up against the existing mirror.

    I just installed this dash/rear view/backup cam on my 2017 Dodge Durango and I am having an issue with it switching from back up cam to rear view intermittently. When I switch to reverse it will show the back up cam, but then in about 5 seconds it switches to rear view for about a second then back to back up for 5 seconds....and so on and so on. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? Also, thanks for the very detailed video. It was extremely helpful!

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, the camera will switch to the backup camera when it detects a current in the red cable, which is why it is normally wired to the reverse light (which normally stays on while the car is in reverse gear). Check this wire to make sure it's got good contact with the wire/connector delivering power. Another possibility could be if your car's electrical system behaves differently for some reason, for example, it could be sending intermittent or fluctuating current to the reverse bulb (or the bulb may be failing) which may be causing the behavior you're seeing (the camera is detecting a loss of power and assumes you're no longer in reverse gear and switches the camera back to rearview, and so on).

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, that hasn't happened. At least not yet. I find that typically the problem is actually with the budget microSD cards pre-packaged with these cameras. They tend to fail quickly and can't be recorded to after so many re-writes. Simply replacing the memory card with a new one might do the trick if the camera unit itself is still working properly.

    • @ReviewedByPhil

      No, I don't believe it will. The red wire sends the signal to the unit to put the reverse camera up on the screen when the car is put in reverse gear. Without it installed, you would have to manually switch to the rear camera and in this case there would be no grid lines.

    Thanks for the excellent review... two questions are bugging in my mind. 1, When the car is being parked and off, the dash cam sleeps or still continues on recording? 2, the maximum capacity is 64G for recording! So, is that means we’ve to format the cam frequently? Thanks

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When the car is parked, but still in the 'on' state, the camera will continue to record. When you switch the ignition off, if your accessory port loses power, then the camera will turn off and stop recording. If you don't have the G-sensor sensitivity or parking monitor set, all files will be available to be overwritten. The camera will automatically erase and overwrite the oldest video when all the space on the card is used, so no need to format the card. However, if you use the G-sensor, parking monitor, or manually lock files, once the card is entirely full of locked files, it cannot overwrite them and you must format or remove the files you no longer need in order to keep recording.

      Hm, I haven't noticed a shadow reflection in the glass, which is what I think you mean by "seeing double." The night mode comes on automatically and doesn't need to be toggled on, but note that it's not true "night vision" in the sense that it uses infrared lights to see in the dark. It's simply a light enhancing HDR, so it does need some sort of light source to work effectively.

      Unfortunately no. When I reached out to the vendor to inquire about it (after I posted this video) they indicated it was a "future use" feature and that they didn't have a GPS unit spec'd out at the moment. You may be able to try an aftermarket GPS antenna from another brand, but there's no guarantee that it would be compatible or that the software would recognize the signal to embed the data in the video.

    hello, how does the GPS feature (input - output) work?? thanks

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I asked the manufacturer about this feature, they indicated that a brand specific GPS module was not yet available, so you'd have to buy a third-party GPS receiver, though compatibility is not guaranteed. Thus I haven't been able to test this feature on this specific model camera, though I have used it with other dashcams, and they all basically do the same thing.
      With an appropriate GPS input device (that you'd have to buy separately) you plug in the connector cable to the available port on the dashcam and mount the GPS receiver on your windshield. Then the GPS coordinate data of your drive would be embedded in the video file which you can view later on a PC with the appropriate decoder/viewer software.

      The camera feed at night is decent, though there's no true "night vision" that uses IR lights. The camera uses HDR to enhance existing light sources. Therefore, in pitch black conditions (e.g. no street lights, stars, moonlight) you won't see much of anything from the camera feeds, so it works a lot better on city/suburban streets and highways than rural roads.

    I have never owned one of these before so I'm not fully aware of how they work...if you set the looping function for the max 5 minutes, what exactly happens at the end of the 5 minutes? Will it immediately start overwriting the previous video or will it wait until storage is low? I only ask because 10 minutes of recording (5 for each cam) will only take up about 1GB according to this video so why would it only record 5 minutes of video before overwriting when there are still over 30GB of storage remaining?

      The loop length simple defines how long each video clip is. So an hour long recorded drive, for example, would be broken out over twelve 5 minutes clips. Every five minutes, a new recording will start. When the card runs out of memory, the camera will overwrite the oldest video file that is not protected (you can manually lock files so that they will not be overwritten; G-sensor and parking monitor events are always protected as well). Be sure to check and delete unneeded protected files regularly. If your card is full of locked files, it simply won't record anything new!

    I always think why you guys never mention FPS on video quality.Because I noticed that frame per second of 2k video is very low,maybe 24 FPS which I not a smooth video quality.2k or 4K does not mean that you are going to have good quality. Video quality should be at least on 60 FPS. If I am wrong please tell me the FPS rate in this camera .Thanks

      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The native video frame rate for both the 2K and 1080p from this camera is 30 fps, which is pretty standard. I generally don't mention fps unless it's an outlier, like 24fps, which would be a more cinematic, softer feel video quality or 60 or 120 fps usually used for HD sports broadcasts/gaming, which for these types of budget dash cameras would be rare. I see what you mean about the video smoothness of the DVR footage not being as smooth as the rest of my review video, but bear in mind I record my primary footage in 4K and the DVR footage is upscaled to fit this video frame. It's possible the DVR footage may drop frames dues to compression type or sample fewer than 30 fps initially but duplicate frames up to 30 fps when encoding the video. For what it's worth, when I'm watching the raw DVR footage on my computer, it looks slightly smoother than it does in the B-roll footage in this video, that's probably because in the course of video editing, I'm mixing file types and qualities and the decompression/re-compression of the video clips alters it a little bit.

    Did you just shove that camera power wire into that reverse bulb harness and just plug it back in? DONT DO THIS PEOPLE.

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was a practical solution for me and I've done this with every dashcam I've had over the last 3 years with no incident. Of course you could splice the wire into the lead for a more professional solution, but with the low voltages involved I figured there's very little risk save for the wire coming loose due to lack of a solid connection. What concerns do you have with the method?

      No, I don't discuss price on the video because prices change a lot and that info gets out of date pretty quickly. However, if you want to know the current pricing, check the link in the description. It will take you to Amazon where you can see the current price and any sales/discounts that might be offered right now.

    To always have the rear camera running, don't you have to tap into the driving lights instead or is it working with the reverse lights only?

    • @ReviewedByPhil
      @ReviewedByPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, the rear video feed cable also delivers power to the rear camera, so both the front and rear camera are continuously recording while the car is on and in recording mode (power comes from the accessory port). The red wire that I tapped into the reverse light only serves as a trigger signal to tell the DVR to put up the reverse camera with the guide lines. Note that because the adapter port in my car does not supply power when the car is off, the cameras will not record continuously while the car is off. For this, you would need to wire the camera to the car's main circuitry, or with a fuse adapter. I recommend a low voltage cutoff when wiring directly so that the camera will not fully drain your car's battery.

      @ReviewedByPhil  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that. I've had mine installed for over 2 years now without any issues. If you purchased the dashcam on Amazon, 3 weeks should still be within the 30-day return period, so you should be able to return via your Amazon account for a refund, even if the seller isn't responsive.
