Acumen is releasing their first ever dashcam of that kind - with features that seem to be impossible to pack at a price of just 130 dollars - but here we are - rearview cam, ADAS, and the most discrete kind of installation.
In this review I will talk about the hardware and features, the installation, the menu operation and supported shooting modes.
The XR10 model arrives in a good package - unboxing experience is above average. Taking out the main unit first - and this easily fits on top of most rearview mirrors; We can see the charging cable, the rearview module - which has pretty long cable; Nice to see that Acumen even provide a microSD card. Quick tour through the ports and buttons - the power button is self explanatory; there is a reset button - just in case, the input power port - with Mini USB standard.
In terms of hardware qualities - the large beautiful display is with touch-functionality and is 9.66 inches, recordings are up to 1080p, processor used is Mstar 8339d, paired with the 2-MP Smartsensetech SC2363 sensor.
First not so good news - there is no h265 support; this means that you can’t take advantage of getting the same video quality packed at smaller video filesize - which GoPro cameras can do, for example; Too few dash cameras support such a feature in late 2019 anyways. Second not so good news - there’s a 500-mah battery. Having supercapacitor is safer, but on the other side - the availability of a battery enables you to count on parking monitoring for a while, even without using a hardwire kit.
Now - we know the basics, let’s take a look at the installation. No master-skills are needed. The main unit is pretty simple to place - elastic straps - make sure it is well leveled and - done. You need to add power - connect to the car’s cigar lighter and - ready to go. Finding a discrete way to place the cable would be important . Тhe second part may be a little more challenging, but let’s take a look at the steps - and they are indeed pretty simple. The rear camera - find a good spot on the rear of your car. Masking the cable here takes a little longer.
Now - we’ve mentioned about some of the extra functions already; The screen is touch, and swiping left or right switches the different cameras in various zoom levels. Also - the menu is so nice and easy to access - with not too many, but enough for fine tuning features;
The ADAS feature seems to work without the need of GPS, and can be enabled from the menus.
There is parking monitor - which is triggered by the G-sensor. As for video quality - examples you’ll see are quite many. Relatively good image quality, up to par with most 1080p dash cams. Night mode is surprisingly good and quite bright. Thanks to the not so pixel intensive sensor - this allows more light to reach the individual pixels and guarantees good density.
Being pretty new - the XR10 still seems somehow underrated. I believe this car DVR is quite great and very adequate contender for one of the best budget rearview mirror dash cams with rear module. Easy to install, easy to operate with, well built, even better user interface, excellent image quality, 3-year warranty if you register it online - all that coming at the very reasonable price of 129 USD from a Californian-based company.

I installed a dashcam almost exactly like this one last week. It was easier than I thought to install. You are correct when the rear camera was a little tricky. But after examining the situation and going forward with the plan it all worked out great. It was easier than I thought to get the wire to the trunk. The dashcam works great and the rear camera automatically turns on when going into reverse. Excellent product 👍.

This one doesn't do that - there seems to be no ambient sensor.

I think it would be great to have such a dash cam if it would support the function of diagnostic through OBD2 adapter and features of a dash car computer.

Even in 2020 i think good 720/1080p should be fine,h265 or hevc are very welcomed tho in this cams..i wish there's option for tft lcd or just use HD amoled panel

Ok so if i understand right if you don't hook the brake lights to it all you have is a camera, does it still record? i think that would great to use as a curb camera to see how close i can park etc. since my car has a backup camera.
Yes, it still records. It is only for triggering the display.

Just got my Acumen Xr10 Excellent review. I have a few questions.
In the menu settings of the Acumen Xr10 go find the option "Flicker 50/60" what does Flicker mean?
What does Time Zone settings mean? Its in GMT? I live in CST Central Standard Time area code 64801 here in the U.S. I never heard of GMT time zones?
I purchased a Samsung High Endurance Pro 64 mb Micro SD card, about how long will it hold recordings before being re-written over? Do you think I need a 128 gb card for this camera running on 1296P?

Hi there!
The "Flicker" option is meant to reduce the flickering of light in certain low light conditions. Like sometimes traffic lights may look weird if the camera shutter speed has similar timing as the flickering of the traffic lights (which is invisible for the human eye).
The time zone feature specifies the timezone you have. GMT is the main timezone - Greenwich Mean Time. The CST is usually equal to GMT -5hrs.
As for the card - it will be able to store several hours of videos. In my opinion 1080p is more than enough. Have fun! :-)

Did I hear that right? Everytime you want to use the reverse camera as a parking aid you have to swipe on the mirror? Smudging it so often?
Only if you do not wire it to the lamp for the reverse gear.
Automatic rear view mirros don't have flip down mechanism. What about reflections of headlights from behind?
The mirror has a special filter to reduce the effect of such reflections and felt quite good.

How good is the mirror display as a mirror. Is it very dark? Is it well usable as a regular mirror? Thank you
Yeah, it is totally fine as a normal mirror. A bit darker, but most of the time the difference is bearable.

ok, so i put the rear camera in my front bumper, so i can see the curbs. but the picture is opposite on the mirror, what is on the driver side in real life is shown in the mirror on the right side of it. can the image be rotated of flipped .
I think there is an option in the menus. But better check with Acumen's support for a confirmation.
Nice & don't need 4k max only 1440p enough...

My Toyota sequoia 2008 5.7l v8 SR5 is not with me and I have no way of knowing the dimensions of the interior rear mirror.I live in a different country now. I want to buy an ACUMEN dash cam but wondering if it will fit the OE interior mirror - when placed on it will it fit?
How long is the rear camera cable ?
It fits most mirrors, so perhaps that won't be an issue. As for the cable - cannot recall the exact length...

I purchased mine 5 weeks ago. It is a great camera.
BUT in the 5 weeks it has been up an running in my car,
just this morning, while driving, I watched as it changed the correct time,
to 2047, Jan 1.
I reset it to the correct time, and withing 5 seconds it went back to the 2047, Jan 1.
I reset it again and it went back to the 2047 date again.
I formatted the SD card, then reset to the correct time again.
When I switched back to the home setting, it immediately went back to the 2047 date.
Trying to find the manufacturers address, phone #, or web site address.
I bought it through Amazon, not getting anywhere with a good answer.
They say I didn't make a purchase in 2020. My credit card says I did, on Jan 18th.
Can anyone offer some help.

Only WiFi is available as far as I remember.

I purchased an Acumen XR10 about a month ago in Los Angeles, California. It was professionally installed. A few weeks later, I drove to Belize, Central America. The dash am was working perfectly all throughout my travels, even when I arrived in Belize. Suddenly, it stopped recording. I activated the reset button, but still no image, logo, or red light on the screen, as it showed before, only a starting up peep. Can anyone tell me what is the problem with the dashcam and how to solve it?
Elroy, try to get a power bank and a cable and try connecting it to the dashcam. If the same condition occurs - sounds like a hardware failure.

This is a matter of where the rear camera was placed. Looks like in this video overview, it was installed like a _backup_ camera, versus a rear-view camera. Not the fault of the camera (or any others like it), but the installer not knowing what they were doing.
Terrible in the rain and they have no solution for it. Mine turns on and off frequently

@@TechMishka you must be talking the front cam? I’m talking about the back camera that plays constantly. Water hits it and blurs the feed. Then if it’s night the headlights blur it even more
