Nice video explaining some of the features. I installed this unit a couple months back and wanted to have it default to the rear view but could not find how. You covered that and other features well. Thanks for putting this together!
Thank you so much! Yeah, I love mine. Can't wait to capture something interesting during one of my drives! I recorded a shooting star one night which I was surprised to see was visible in the camera footage.
love your videos, very true to life explanations and decent quality for a smaller channel, nice work, also this system for a dashcam seems pretty awesome and intuitive, especially sense it comes with both back and front cameras, so no need to buy two dash cams separately, love that you can set it to use the back dashcam automatically, that would def. bring up some safety concerns if you had to fumble through the interface while driving.
Hi, thanks for the nice work! One question, the GPS is not working properly, it shows me a yellow sign on the display as it is searching, but not working all the time
Hm, this may indicate a poor signal due to placement. Try moving the GPS unit to a different spot or higher up on the windshield glass and see if that helps, it's possible that the antennae for the radio may be causing interference with the GPS signal.
Great video. Will the GPS files run on an Apple 🍏 MacBook computer? Will the power lead to the mirror interfere with the DAB radio signal? Can the GPS antenna be hidden out of sight? Thanks in advance.
I'm sure with an appropriate video decoder app you can view the GPS data on a Mac, as it's embedded in the video file itself. Yes, occasionally the power lead can interfere with radio signal depending on the location of your antenna and how you run the wires (don't run the power one way and the rear camera lead the other across the top of your windshield, as this basically creates a faraday cage around your windshield and blocks a majority of radio reception). Yes, the GPS cable can be hidden under the trim the same way you hide the power and read camera cables.
The GPS antenna is a separate piece, and I show where you plug it into the camera at 1:18. Once plugged in, you can place it anywhere on your dashboard or on the windshield, using the adhesive sticker so it can pick up GPS signal. The GPS tracks your route and will also help calculate your travel speed and direction of travel (see 12:34).
While there isn't a night mode, I haven't found the screen to be distracting at night. If, however, you do think it's bothersome, you can switch the camera feed off (but still record) and just use it as a mirror by short-pressing the power switch.
Is the blue wire in your reverse light socket the positive wire? Can you explain why red wire from rear camera was inserted into black negative side of reverse light socket and not into blue side of socket. Thanks.
Actually, it doesn't matter which side of the circuit it's on as neither wire carries power until the car is put in reverse. Then at that point, both do, which is the trigger signal for the camera to switch. So regardless of which side of the connector you choose to splice the wire into, it should work the same.
Do you think it would be possible somehow to attach this dashcam "mirror" directly onto the windshield, rather than tying it onto the original rearview mirror?
Hm, I'm not sure. There isn't really any "mounting point" on the dashcam, so other than the plastic brackets for the rubber bands, there's no clear way to attach the unit to anything else unless possibly the window mount uses adhesive to grip the mirror; then maybe you could glue/stick the dashcam to the mount.
Yes, the rear camera is weather proof, though I have found, for these types of cameras, that the tiny screws that are on the bracket do rust over time.
Hm, I haven't done it myself, so I don't have a video of the process, but there's a plug-and-play kit available: geni.us/Mtx2b [Amazon Affiliate Product Link] that plugs into an unused fuse slot in the fuse box under your dashboard. It should be straightforward to install, but the instructions that come with these things are often not well written.
According to the instructions, you can change the units in the camera settings by changing the language. For mph, select English. The unit will display kph for other languages. For what it's worth, mine displays mph and I have it set to English. I have not experimented with the other languages to test which units appear for each.
Acording to a german Amazon review one can send an email to dmyco-de@foxmail.com and request a km/h update of the firmware, which then allows to switch the units. I do not (yet) have the cam, just providing the info I read before.
There is a parking monitor option that you can enable, but I recommend that you hook it into an "always on" accessory port or the car's electrical system with a low voltage cutoff since the battery life of the camera isn't that long in parking mode.
I do like it. It's bulky in the sense that I can't put my drvier's side visor all the way forward, because it messes with the camera angle. And if you don't have it strapped in tight it can bounce/vibrate a whole lot. It's not too distracting if you're not starting at the screen, which you shouldn't be anyway, because you know, you're driving! I do want to put some thread locker on the screws on the reverse camera because road vibrations tend to make the back camera sag down over time, and I have to point it back up every once in a while.
@@ReviewedByPhil Thank you for your prompt response. I wish there was a dashcam mirror that I can use to replace the factory fitted mirror in my 2017 Toyota Camry. What I like about this dash cam is that it has a lot of features and I can get a full view of the rear of my car. Is it better to have windshield-mounted dashcam or mirror dashcam? Does this dashcam have a lot of reflection from the car's dashboard?
@@kpkaus I prefer the mirror mounted ones because they generally give you a wider on-screen display and I don't like having a lot of clutter on the windshield. I find it more natural to look at the mirror too, than at a separate device mounted elsewhere on the window. The only real issue for folks is the vibration due to the nature of the rubber band mounting. Maybe clamps or glue could solve that issue, but I haven't tried it. No, there's isn't any reflection from the dashboard, since the dashboard isn't generally viewable in the mirror.
@@kpkaus shinzen, nikomaku and awesafe has OEM mirror dashcams. Like you mount the dashcam itself and remove your stock mirror so nice right. Not bulky and not ugly. But the damn nikomaku as3 pro max is only available in Amazon Japan and Amazon USA. I live in Canada and Amazon.ca doesn't sell the as3. There are hundreds of mirror dashcams on amazon.ca but most of them are just the mount or strap dashcam so no good.
The plug end of the GPS unit goes into the port shown at 1:01 to the right of the SDcard slot. Then I stuck it in the corner of my windshield on the passenger side and ran the wire under the trim along the right side of the windshield and through the ceiling panel to the camera.
There are no maps to download for the device as the GPS on the dashcam doesn't display maps or directions on its screen. It simply records your location to the video file (longitude and latitude coordinates). When playing the files in the GXPlayer application, the map view is generated using the latest map files from Google Maps, so the maps should always be up-to-date during playback, and it plots your location based on the recorded coordinate data. This, however, requires an internet connection, and if the device you're running GXPlayer on isn't connected to the internet, you won't be able to see the map at all.
Unicorn pool floats can be purchased relatively inexpensively at Amazon. I reviewed one here: th-cam.com/video/X1Ap6Nkuih8/w-d-xo.html The link for it is in the description of the video!
There's a parking monitor mode that will initiate a recording if your car it struck while it is parked, however you will have to manually turn the camera on after the car is turned off and set that mode. Depending on how many times it is activated, it may not have enough battery life to last the whole night.

Hi. I turn on the dashcam and its frozen. Saying format sd card but i can't touch anything or use the menu. Whats the problem?
It's possible the digitizer has malfunctioned so it's not responding to touches. You may need to contact the vendor for replacement or refund.
