Yeahhhh... therein lies the secret, yeh? To me, that was just an ugly AF old piece of scrap wood. I totally lack the artistic talent to see the possibilities underneath. Kudos to FD for spotting that and then having the skill to carry it off. Another masterpiece from Flipping Drawers 🌞

Great save on the drawer fronts! I really think the wax finish on the interior of the drawers adds a lot of class to the finished work too. I also thought the factory design on the slides demonstrated a higher build quality. That was a long and worthwhile trip from trash on the street to elegant.

@@FlippingdrawersI was recently looking back and saw you restored a 50’s post war drawer unit identical to one I have with a matching Tallboy that belonged to my late parents. I may have a go at restoration over the winter months. It’s the painted roadside one on the KFC trip. 👍❤️
@@Flippingdrawers I did enjoy watching it over my lunch break. Suggestion for clamping curved surfaces, try a sponge sanding block in between the piece and the clamp.

Oh my gosh, I learn so much from you! I only restore/finish furniture for my own use, but watching you has helped me do such a much better job for myself. In fact, I am restoring a little painted side table right now and find myself thinking, “now you go back and re-do that, Jay would never let that go!”

I love the way this turned out! And the new hardware is perfect. Because of watching you and other furniture fixers and crafters on TH-cam, I have started doing a few small projects around my house. It is encouraging to see professionals such as yourself mess up and need to redo things since I am finding many skills aren't as easy as they look. I also purchased a mouse sander to help with my small projects. Sanding isn't as easy as you make it look, either😊

I feel like every time I watch one of your videos, you end up producing the most elegant version possible of whatever you’re working on, and that was true again this time. Beware roaches in old damp furniture (crevices and cracks, too) Decaying wood is soft and easy to eat. Roaches can digest cellulose, allowing them to eat wood and other tree-based matter, such as paper and cardboard. Unfortunately, this means wooden furniture can be a source of sustenance. Roaches can eat paint, so treat wooden furniture with varnish.
I love the hardware, quills for a writing desk. Beautiful job.

Thomas Johnson antique furniture restoration says that the first layer should always be shellac because the next time someone restores the furniture, it will be easier to remove the varnish or the paint except if you wax the surface. 😉
