  • I had my blood and other things analysed to see how healthy I am.
    In this video I explain the full process, take you through my analysis and share my action plan to get my body back in balance.
    A HUGE thank you to Phil for working with me. Visit his website here: bit.ly/Phil-Ri...
    Phil works with blood & stool testing, as well as online exercise and nutrition coaching.
    I had the Ultimate Sports Performance Blood Test and Stool Analysis.
    Phil recommended those tests based on my ’symptoms’ and what I hoped to achieve as a result of having the tests.

    Some additional notes about this video:
    1. I should have mentioned what tests I had in the video - I had the Ultimate Sports Performance Blood Test and Stool Analysis.
    Phil recommended those tests based on my ’symptoms’ and what I hoped to achieve as a result of having the tests.
    If you would like testing but are unsure which tests to do, send a message to Phil and he will make a recommendation based on your reasons and budget.
    2. I really hope you found some value in this video. I know it was a long one with lots of detail, but I wanted to lay it all out and share my experience, in case it helps someone else.
    A huge thanks to Phil for helping me get back on track.
    3. What I have shared in this video is my experience and my results. Someone else is likely to have very different results and requirements.
    Please do not self-diagnose based on what has been mentioned in this video.
    4.. By me having these tests, please don't think I’m doing a Jeff Bezos and wanting to live forever. This is me wanting to live a healthy life and not end up in a pickle in my later years being on prescribed medications.
    5. One thing that has surprised me about the eating plan is it isn’t much more than I was spending on food before.
    Previously, I was buying many different types of fruits and vegetables, oats, non-dairy milk, nuts and seeds, that kind of stuff and it was expensive! Plus I was still always hungry!
    Now all I’m buying is meat, fish and vegetables and it’s coming to the same amount, plus I'm full after each meal, with no snacks or cravings.
    6. Who liked the funny weight-lifting faces? I can't carry on pulling those faces if I want to find a boyfriend 😆

      I'm about 2/3 done the video, and plan to finish it because I find it fascinating! Our society tends to think in terms of "let's zoom in on this one particular thing" when it comes to overall health and wellness, and ignores the fact that our bodies are one big system, and everything affects everything else. I love when people really dive in, and get a much clearer idea of what's really happening in their body. 😊

      This is one of the best videos I’ve seen in ages! So much pseudo science out there and it comes down to basic things for optimal health - eat an unprocessed high protein diet and lift heavy stuff. I learnt so much from Phil’s explanations. I would like to get similar done however a severe needle phobia puts me off the blood test! 🫣 Super encouraging that you’ve got such good results in a short period of time too LT ❤

    This stuff is pure gold!!! This is THE most interesting video I have EVER seen. Such quality info. I have a biochemistry degree and a Chiropractic degree and the way Phil brought the science together with the function of the body was like I’d had an epiphany. It really connected my 2 degrees and blended them together like a symphony! Words can’t describe how excited I am to get myself checked and feel like I’m actually going to get the results I want on my fertility journey. Just so you know, I'm a bloke listening to your stuff about PMT, its certainly better to know about stuff than not. That aside, I watched most of this last night then finished off watching just now, amazingly interesting. I really wish GPs / Doctors would do something similar to these tests and analysis with their patients, just imagine the long term benefits and less stress on the NHS if people really knew what was going on in their own bodies and could use diet and exercise to the best advantage. Brilliant stuff, really great.

      Hey Wishbone, thank you so much for your comment.
      You know, I never really paid attention to PMT, menopause and all that stuff, but it's on my radar now and it's made me realise so may women have so many different experiences and it gives me empathy (maybe sympathy? I get confused with the words) now as I realise that each women will feel different and different levels.
      I also wish these things could be tested in the mainstream but ... well..... I'll say no more.

      In the UK we have reference ranges for blood tests. This is defined by the population to which the range applies.
      e.g iron for a female is 10-300ng/ml, Unfortunately if you are on the low end of the range not all GPs will not provide supplement. This will only make iron deficiency/anemia worse. I think blood tests are thorough but it just depends on the clinician looking at it. So things can get missed. Just recently my Vit D levels were within 'normal range' but on the low end. I've decided to take a supplement because the tank is running low. Patients should be made aware so they can make informed decisions.

    • @FM-mb2lu
      @FM-mb2lu ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the US, analysis like this is only done by specialized practitioners and is very expensive. I think of the number of people who would love happy healthy lives with an adjustment in supplements and food and exercise.

    • @Fatbum11
      @Fatbum11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Unfortunately if your results show abnormal, they won’t treat you until your in disease. That’s what happened to me and my daughter , she should have been diagnosed at 14 because her results showed abnormal and had the same disease hypothyroidism. She was diagnosed on a different and worse reference range than me, I had to get help from a nurse to write in a medical way, so they couldn’t explain away my concerns. Even when she was 14 she was 12.6 and symptomatic and I was 12. The doctor even said knowing my history and other family members have it I’m not going to medicate you, so she suffered for 5 more years. Also when I asked another doctor he said 16 and 17 is healthy, so it made no sense. So many people are living with invisible illnesses. I’m lucky to be able to make sense of mine.

    I grew up in Brazil, there we do these exams every year, usually when the girl has her first period she starts going to the gynecologist and he will check her health, throughout life, care during pregnancy, menopause, we measure all hormones, nutrients, metals, ultrasound of the organs, at 45 I have a book of all the testa and changes that my body has been going through, sometimes it's a little strange to see your heart changing in size, I used to think that all health systems were like that, my husband who is French said I've never seen doctors like that.
    one of the good parts is that this becomes a social conversation, we talk a lot about what happens in our body, we exchange tips on new tests that we discover, the doctors do not receive our results, they go to the patient to analyze and then show it to the doctors he choose

      I never even had any blood test til I was in my late 40s or early 50s. I guess I could have if I went through some channels, but I was never sick, so it was never called for. I made a yearly or bi-yearly visit to GYN for pap smear only. Never had kids and never really had my own primary care manager.
      My husband had a 30 year Navy career and had his own separate, fairly comprehensive health checks.
      In my late 60s now and I do visit Dr regularly. But I take our current USA health guides with a grain of salt. Fortunately I've been fairly healthy except for kidney stones, I believe due to a vegetarian lifestyle through my 40s and 50s. Now a low carb way of life with animal protein base. Retired and time to exercise regularly. Feel much better than my younger years.

There’s a huge disservice to women and their needs as we age. Keeping hormones and nutrients balanced can mean the difference between having a happy functioning life and being miserable.

    Laura! I feel like I manifested you making this video. I decided when I get back from travelling I was going to get bloods done to find out how to eat/train/supplement best for me. I’ve been finding myself consuming so much content on health and biohacking and having no idea what works for me and my body. So many people recommend intermittent fasting but it makes me feel ravenous and grumpy. I found a DNA test I planned to do, but it gives pages and pages of reports and I have no idea if I’ll understand them or know what to change. But when you shared this, I knew I wanted to try a session with Phil as I think having someone talk through the results and help me decide what changes to make in my life will make all the difference. And the price for doing it with him isn’t even that different from the place I looked at that just gives written reports and no human contact. So thank you thank you thank you for making me aware of Phil and I’m definitely going to save up for his services. And so glad to hear how it’s helped you. Hope you’re okay and so good to see you smashing TH-cam so well!

      How does one get blood tests with Phil.

    • @kenfreeman8888
      @kenfreeman8888 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@magicsupamoggie I got blood tests where I am. You can get the tests from any lab or your doctor and have the results forwarded to anyone you want to work with. I'm working with my own nutritionists/medicos in my area, covered by my insurance. (Doctor's normally test a limited number of things, so I'm still doing my own research to learn what extra tests to ask for.)
      Laura has a link in the description for Phil's web page. His web page has more information on working with him online or in person.

    This is a great channel, and this episode was fantastic! I'm in the US, and I wish you and Dr. Peter Attia (the book Outlive is his) would get together for a podcast. You two would be so complementary -- you are "context" for so much of what he talks about. I wish there was someone like Phil in the USA that I could go to for blood work! It's almost worth a trip to UK to get it done!

    Best video yet. A lot of women believe that doing lots of cardio and eating low fat rabbit food is "healthy" but it often leads to depression, fatigue, hunger and raging PMT. It can be cured by adopting a keto/paleo/carnivore diet. Reducing cardio and starting to lift weights helps a bit too.

    • @regather59
      @regather59 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My understanding is this is and probably always will be beyond the purview of a GP as they have so much already to learn and watch out for, and they're obliged to stay with what's been approved by the NHS (and its equivalents), and that process of approval is slow and political. Solid research is often ignored for decades. Cheap and wholesome fixes are ignored because few people can make money out of them. Phil's making a living from helping people go that step further in pursuing good health. It'd be cost-effective for the government to offer this kind of thing to everyone, but that's political and our NHS is currently being sold off to US "health provider" sharks...

    • @nevertoolate8589
      @nevertoolate8589 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I wish this kind of total health check covering everything and good nutrition, supplement and hormonal advice was provided on the NHS.
      But realistically, the NHS doesn’t have the money, GPs don’t have the time and most of them even the knowledge.
      Sadly, I think the majority of the population would not benefit anyway. They are already not listening or following the basic advice given to them of eating healthier, cooking from scratch not processed, moving more, drinking less alcohol. They feed their kids the same rubbish. Hence the overweight/obesity epidemic and related conditions.
      This sort of advanced testing would in my humble opinion only benefit people who are already interested in health, wanting to better themselves or are serious about making a change.

    Excellent video on many levels. I’m really sorry for the pain you’ve endured despite really trying to do everything right. I want to try and help, and I have no credentials or even “knowledge”. I’m 21 years ahead of you and have a few thoughts to share.
    1. As you get older, you can really start to notice things on a much faster pace. Like if I eat crap food, I notice it immediately, whereas before I could eat whatever and would notice at all. Grocery store meat, lethargic. Grass fed no bs meat from a farm, immediately feel way better. Yes, it’s double the cost.
    2. Laughter, stress, companionship, purpose, passion, love, spirituality that really rings true. Your mental state has a massive impact on your physical state.
    3. Trust your gut, your inner you, or your guides if you will. We are are told such bs by sometimes really well meaning people that say eggs are bad and the yolks have too much bad cholesterol, then 30 years later they say, yes, but they also have something in them which completely negates the bad. Or tamatoes cause inflammation, the the same thing comes out like eggs and the net effect is they reduce inflammation. Or those shots are good (maybe not so much). You have to ask your inner self questions and listen for the answers. At some point in getting older, you really learn to trust your gut because it has had a track record of never leading you wrong. If it did, maybe your ego got in the way. Some people will never get that.
    4. It’s a journey of learning, and learn to enjoy the ride!

I really need to work on my nutrition (my gp told me about the potassium sources which are better than bananas) and there’s nothing to be embarrassed about xxxx p.s. I don’t know if you’re aware but tannins in green teas and teas disrupt nutrient absorption so you also might want to be careful not to drink tea around snacks and meals (you might know that already tho!) xx

    I’ve just come across your videos & find them very informative. Well done for taking steps to improve your health (& your mum’s). I have no doubt you are on the road to optimum health. Phil’s explanations were great. Most people will find issues in their bloods & stools only when problems rear up. It’s a shame that when the GP does an annual check that more comprehensive checks, with blood & stool analysis, are not done. I know it may be more expensive in the short term but would save so much more money in the long term. When tests are done you are none the wiser. GPS don’t give a detailed explanation of your tests unlike Phil. If a problem is flagged (often after months or years) they are far too general in their explanation & offer no real help in addressing the issue. Getting information from my GP is like extracting blood from a stone.

    WOW!!💥 Laura, you are Amazing! - Phil is Amazing!😃
    ...this is the most AMAZING health vlog I've ever watched, and I learned SO much from it.
    That's saying something, bc I'm always tuned into one, or another, health vlog. Pretty sure I follow all the same YT health experts you do.
    So, I went thru this whole video thinking 'wow' - I wonder if Phil could recommend a U.S. cohort as good at what he does, as he is.'
    Then... to find out that Phil has 'packages' I may be able to ascribe to, even though I'm stateside(?) That would be awesome, if so.
    But, of course, the 'sit down' to discuss results would not be in person.
    That said, I have recently 'discovered' you, and subscribed. You caught my eye with your Huberman morning routine, recently. I think I may also have watched your 7-day fast sometime back, but did not subscribe @ that time.
    Watched your amazing progression at learning 'the splits', and thoroughly enjoyed it.
    Besides your intriguing content, I really enjoy your personality, Laura, and the realism you present in all your vlogs.
    Can't wait to watch your Mum going thru the same testing with Phil, and THOSE results! 😃
    So, I'll look in the show notes to get an idea whether it's possible to buy one of Phil's packages, even though I'm in the states.
    Thanks so much for all you do, Laura! Your health vlogs help so many across this globe, I am sure.👍

    This is so excellent, thank you for doing this Laura! I had some similar issues with energy, protein, and thyroid function. I had to go on thyroid medication for Hashimoto's autoimmune, but have corrected the protein issues, eat more and take the HCL pepsin...or lately just do several shots of apple cider vinegar before meals, one shot 30 min before a protein meal, it works the same way. Also, my magnesium was low, so I take that before bed time and it helps with sleep and bowel movements. I take D3 as well, as my depression was up and so I needed it. I use a light box in the winter for 40 minutes at the beginning of my day. Also, since I have pain issues in the cold months, in my joints, I take Benfothiamine, it helps with joint pain or fibromyalgia type symptoms. I have also continued to do the intermitted fasting, not eating until 12 noon, then eliminating all gluten, of course bread. The only real carb I eat is rice, once in a while. So, I have gone down from 64 Kg. to 56 Kg. and have more muscle now. I also don't drink alcohol, eat dairy, and I try not to have sugar, honey, or maple syrup. However sometimes I do end up giving in! I have found that allergic reactions have decreased a lot! Especially itchy skin reactions, and hot flashes have gone away! I am 56, so had hot flashes for about two years, well when I gave up all sweets, they stopped! I get K2 vitamin by eating natto (fermented soy beans) about twice per week. I really admire your plan, and showing us all your process, keep on keeping on!

    I'm male, 58y/o. It was interesting to see your 6 week summary towards the end of the video. I started keto/carnivore and taking various natural supplements about 18 months ago, along with intermittent fasting (normally eating twice a day within a 6 hour window with the odd 24 hour fast) to improve my overall health and to avoid unnecessary medical immunisations.......!!! My exercise regime is strength based plus I normally average around 100,000 steps per week. My results have been similar to yours in relation to my general health, brain fog etc. I lost the 2 stones or so of body fat I wanted to lose within the first few months. I've never done any of the blood testing you did but I know I am far healthier now than I was 18 months ago. My resting heart rate has reduced from the mid 60's to high 50's, my skin ailments have cleared up, I no longer snore, I have more energy and now have a "6 pack" for the first time sine my late teens lol....................
