Hey everyone I hope you enjoy these delicious traditional Scottish recipes from Aberdeen! We love a good rowie in this house and the traditional recipes actually use even more fat than this! lol! If you want you can increase both your butter and lard to 175g instead of the qunatities here to get a super fatty version! Trust me both are delicious! Hope you enjoy and as always any questions please drop me a comment below, Love Angie :-) xxx

Thanks for this. Always missed just walking to the baker and grabbing some of these; sadly can't do that down south but you're video has inspired me to make them for myself.

Hello Charley, you could try using butter instead. That should work ok. It will just be slightly different but should still work ok. Take care Angie x

Angie, ....as an absolute beginner, what flour did you use for the rowies? Plain, or strong white, or bread flour or baking flour? All seem to promote themselves for buns/baking?

Hello, I think it was strong white bread flour, I think that would work best anyway. Hope that helps, Angie :-) x

Hi Thomas, if its for the butteries you want to stick to using lard and butter. :-) You could use butter for the rolls instead :-) hope that helps :-) thanks, Angie

with the butteries, you can replace the lard with more butter, as that's how they were originally made anyway. but it has to be solid fat rather than oil.

So how come all the local bakeries like Cummings and Thain's make 'Veggie' rowies which are delicious? They don't use lard.
