Really like this thing have changed the servos and added weight by adding a brass front diff cover used my personal favourite of adding weight by putting BBs in the tires they roll in the tires so it stays right at the lowest point, I also removed the springs to lower the CG.
I just picked one up a couple days ago. It's definitely the most capable mini crawler out of the box that iv seen. It's the perfect crawler for someone that isn't interested in doing a ton of upgrades. I think just some wheel weights alone will make a huge difference.
I have had mine like a month and like it so far. It is definitely top-heavy and struggles on steep hills, but more then makes up for it in obstacles like rocks, logs, and tight spaces. Love the 4ws and ease of operation. Do wish steering was a bit more rugged, so we will see on that. Axial knows most will buy upgrades and designed it that way. Still fun out of the box, I am pleased with it. Great review also.
Thanks for watching! I like ours a lot too. I modified mine pretty heavily and almost wish I hadn't. I think it was more enjoyable stock. I think a minor steering upgrade and some weight around the wheels is all they need.
I've just recently got back into RC again, never done rock crawling before and decided to give it a try. I bought a axial utb18 Capra as my first rig did a few mods and I really enjoyed it outside. What I didn't know was buying my second rock crawler the fms fcx24 a week later was when i got bit by the RC bug again. Which led me to buy the trx 4m, then the furitek cayman pro , and finally this little gem the xc 1 which I received a few days ago. All I have to say is out of the box this thing is impressive. I can't figure out why some people have a problem with this $160 rtr rig. Every crawler ive bought was with the intention of upgrading performance and making it my own with exception to furitek which I'm using as the marker against the others. That said this thing is a blast to drive and has huge potential to be something more. For a $160 bucks I think its well done and better than average for sure.... Would I have paid more for better servos linkage and motor... Absolutely.
I agree, and perhaps I have unrealistic expectations because of my built rigs. It is super fun and it will be a monster with some light upgrades. Also, you got bit by the mini crawler bug bad! That's an awesome collection in a short period!
I said this on IG but yeah it does have a toy car look and feel and they might be banking on the nostalgia. BUT, it’s really cool that axial is putting 4wd, longer travel shocks on an rtr, it’s really going to pave the way for us people that enjoy micro crawlers more than the bigger scale stuff, and it’s going to put a lot more of this stuff out in the market. People should take into account this is a pretty budget friendly rtr. More competition later on is definitely good for this market.
Good video man. I got mine on Sunday and already added the Axial brass belly pan and carbon fiber chassis. Have stuff on the way to help with the steering as I have already noticed the front servo bogging down.
@Cape Crawlers I think with some good down low weight will help a lot. I am using treal links and hubs as well. Was just looking at mofo rc stuff. To many choices.
I think its great that Axial has added a new rig to their 1/24 scale line up! The scx24 is a very mature platform at this point, yet they decided to bring across some of the technology that was in clear need of improvement. Namely the weak stock steering system and motor! A missed opportunity? I have not purchased one at this time for this reason. All that said this is a great option right out of the box for someone getting into the wonderful world of mini crawlers!
Totally agree. It's easy to discount how cool the rig really is because we want/expect something stronger. I'm excited to get tinkering on it to see what it's capable of.
I have been looking to pick up an SCX24, but really wanted a full crawler look and this is it. Please do a best bang for your buck video like you did for the Deadbolt. The vertical climbing is disappointing, I am hoping it climbs like a mountain goat once you add weight down low. Thanks for your videos, my son and I really enjoy them.
@@CapeCrawlers It looks better than I imagined but didn’t know if I could keep the velcro body on there if it doesn’t like to stay put. It’s what I assumed it would be, a great starting point for customizations. Seems like a must if you plan to crawl anything vertical and got to add weight down low. Think I’ll stick with what I got for now until the budget allows me another 24 that I have to heavily modify. Overall it’s a cool addition and a great video as always.
Awesome indoor course & great videos. I got over drive gears for the front 1st & it’s a great improvement in climbing. Next is a furitek stinger combo for the super slow crawl. Even stock it’s pretty impressive.
Should I get this or just get the alloy chassis and buy the electrics and wheels as most of the car will get upgraded anyway, what's your thoughts, thanks
I’ll save you some headache. 33mm upper links in the rear, with 58.5mm lower rear links. Those servo trays will fit. Also throw some +5mm on the wheels and it becomes a ripper
I really like the rig other than a couple things that totally can be fixed with some modifications so I would say the ESC is one of my biggest let downs being that it’s not much better if it is at all then the V1 esc definitely not as good as the V2 esc 😢 Great video though Adam, your video was awesome 😎 thanks for all the info
Well, I bought a Danchee Ridgerock on “accident”. Wish I had found my Axial stuff first, would rather have bought this over the Danchee mostly due to its size, and secondly due to aftermarket support.
My Betty turned out nice. Thanks for the color. My AX24 came with the servo savers so loose the steering wasn't working very well. A bad first impression given the light weight. I put brass everywhere including steering links and servo trays for AGFRC servos. The only thing I don't have yet (it's in the mail or should be soon) is the brass skid, and I haven't put brass knuckles in the back yet. I'm hoping it makes the difference I need to get the heavy brass wheels off of it. I wish I had more wheel speed than the Injora 50/50 gives though. Do you think I would give up too much low end torque and slow speed with a 50/66? Thanks again. I would not have one of these if you had brushed it off.
I think you would miss the 50/50 motor if you went to the 50/66. It's certainly smoother but you'll lose wheel speed and that low end punch. You might want to check out something like the Mofo Buzzsaw. That is fast and torquey!
I think Axial, with this and the SCX24's are hitting a price point to get you in with a basic model. Also good for kids to get started with as the stock parts are cheap to fix. But I think, if the economics were good, having a second version would be a very welcome option. Maybe SCX24-S/AX24-S versions. Something for the more advance/adult hobbyists. Clear body so one could custom paint their own. Emax servos. Long can, more powerful motor. 3/4 pc alum beadlocks. Good tires. High clearance links. Maybe some brass up front to boost performance up hill. A co-branding deal with Injora might be a fruitful marriage. At least give people a higher performance and durable option so they can play with it more seriously as stock then have to spend hundreds to make it truly usable. In my mind, there's a risk of loosing customers when they see all the YT vid's of people having to spend a bunch on aftermarket parts and learn how to work on the vehicles. Some folks just want to play and aren't into the build side of the hobby. I'd really love to see a company come out with a build your buggy/crawler/truck kit. Go on a website and pick your chassis. Then next, based on that, pick your links. Then motor, body, axles, servo......everything. Then offer it delivered as a box of parts, a built chassis/clear body, or RTR with Tx/Rx added in. Have it so it's 20% cheaper than buying all the stuff individually. That would be awesome!
Excellent ideas. I would love to see Axial do a SCX24 Pro kit like they did in the 1/10 scale. Give us a good foundation and leave the rest to us to complete as we desire!
I ordered one. I was hoping for better if this is V3 though. There are better servos that are cheaper that would pay for better links I think. It's good that is the same in most regards in that we have the familiar parts to make it good.
Great video, this seems to be almost RFC (ready for comp) crawler the shocks seem to not be oil filled so Injora shocks and Emax servos and some Injora rims & tires too would make it a very capable cheap 1/24 comp crawler
with some widening, the right weights, and a servo upgrade I think they will be crazy. However I ordered two new axial hex's and they are threaded grub type screws instead of the slide through pins we all know, which two of the 4 wouldn't even tighten far enough down to let the wheel fit over it, then stripped 2 of the grubs that are even smaller hex's than the .050 normal sxc24 when tryin to remove them. So I have two stuck on there and I can't get my knuckles off to put the brass knuckles and weights up front smh. Still waiting on support.....Love the rig and can't wait to get it goin! Good luck bro!
@@CapeCrawlers horizon actually contacted me today and said they are sending me a full steering axle assembly and replace my bad parts! Great support! This rig will come around and after I got over the initial flip flops and figured out how to drive it it is a lot of fun tryin to get it around the course. It’s just barely capable of doin it but some sections literally take an hour! Lol. Good times! Best wishes to the fam! Get em Axel!
Do you think the rear axel from this would fit in the SCX24 for a cheap 4WS upgrade? The cheapest kit I found was on eBay for $120, and that doesn’t include the transmitter/receiver needed to make it work.
agree with you. Im excited to install my brass. what do you think about a center/limiting strap? I think it could really benefit from one to prevent unloading
@@CapeCrawlers if you come up with a good center limiting strap solution. I'd love to see it. my ax24 not only unloads but the front tire keeps lifting up on climbs. do you have the same problem?
Thanks for the review. I preordered on a whim and received mine over the weekend, but haven’t opened it yet. Not sure whether I’ll keep it or not. What I’m wondering is if we could move everything over to an aftermarket scx chassis with some taller shock mounts. Just thinking out loud, don’t mind me 😂
I think you could migrate things over. I don't see why not. The skid plate is different, which may impact the linkages and driveshafts when using a different chassis, but I am sure you could make it work.
awesome vid. I'm trying very hard to not but this one and add more to my 1/24 crawler collection but this thing off the bat is sick. i just finished converting my deadbolt to 4ws but i can't trim the rear steering. is this one able to trim front and rear steering? can you also feature the transmitter on 4ws operation also. thanks in advance.
I haven't figured out how to trim the rear servo yet, but I will look harder. I will do a follow up video soon as I just put some mods on and completely transformed this thing. I'll show the transmitter during 4WS operation in that one.
Stock-for-stock it needs a lot of work just like the scx24 but I think it's a better starting point and considering it's only 20 or $30 more I think it's worth it
been following all your vids, thanks for doing all the reviews. I just got a XC1 and I noticed the rear servo cannot be tune or aligned. May I know what's your solution? Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! The owners manual says there is no way to trim the rear servo, and I haven't discovered a hack unfortunately. I just try different combinations of servo horn placement and steering linkage mounting. I still can't get it exactly straight though.
@@CapeCrawlers I have one it's great...made my own links from lowes on the budget since no one picked up the after market on it shame...its great I'm running some proline Ibex 2.2 predator comp on the stock rims goes up everything on the cheap
This does seem like a cool little rig, I might pick one up eventually. It does drive me nuts though that they don't fix the widely known issues like the sloppy steering and garbage servos it's just kind of a you'll get what we give you and you'll like it type of attitude , there's no way they don't know about these issues by now, they just don't seem to care to fix them.
This was a good opportunity to address that and it's a bummer that it didn't happen. I like to see Axial offering their own line of upgrades, so maybe we'll get a servo upgrade option in the future.
In my opinion all that is new about this is bad. I don't think it ugly though and maybe not everyone has a problem with the lag in the 4WS when changing modes. The wrong model and geometry for a stack of electronics that high. You have to let go of the idea of tucking the body in or it will become a ritual. A bonus I'm more happy about than the buggy is the tires and wheels are perfect to put on the Betty replica I'm putting together (just a shelf queen) and these need better. Waiting on the Yellow for that but today I learned the color is green (color blind). Can you recommend a Tamiya spray color for the green? Backed with silver? Kind of like the green Injora buggy isn't it? Back to the AX, If it looks like a toy it looks like a toy that is doing a very good job of looking like an early RC. Impressed by your improvements in this thing. Someday. I have a built Injora rock buggy and a built Cayman (both micro komoto) that you talked me into getting that need tweaking. Thanks for doing what you do here.
For the paint, TS-22 light green is nearly identical to the Injora buggy color. Backed with silver that will probably be very close to what you're looking for. I'm liking the AX more and more every time I use it. It has certainly grown on me!
@@CapeCrawlers Thank you. That is very helpful. I threw my heaviest wheels on my AX and that helped enough to see that it's not hopeless. I ordered brass knuckles and dif covers for later. The servos wouldn't turn the wheels on gnarly or fairly neutral terrain with those heavy wheels, but would if the terrain allowed and easily if the terrain helped. I have a couple of agfrc servos I could put on it and i'm waiting on a few brass adjustable mounts because they're longer. Not planned for this but a couple might go in anyway.

I knew you had to have a video on this coming anytime. Looks like it's going to be a great rig. I have a hard question for you... I was just going to get a trx4m and then this guy comes out. I have lot's os mods and wheels and tires for the ax24 I could get on it. And would be fresh on the traxxas. Which should I get? Thanks for your input. Take care
two very different rigs. this ax is much more capable than the trx4m since it is a buggy but the trx4m will require you to be more technical since it’s more of a scale rig. personally i’d take the traxxas just because it’s more of a real car than just some kind of rock bouncer that could get over anything with ease
Tough question and as the above comment accurately states, two very different rigs. The Traxxas is so well put together. The fit and finish and scale appearance is gorgeous. It has scale realism and big fun factor for sure. The AX24 is going to be for more hardcore crawling. If you want something that can scale some gnarly obstacles and hit some crazy lines on a crawler course, the AX24 is it. The Traxxas would be more of a scale trail truck that can also throw down on some moderate terrains.
It’s definitely more capable than a stock Scx24 but I believe that the scx24 chassis is better and at full upgraded they will probably be better at different things but my money is on the scx24
Anyone that still hates this is stubborn or lazy. It’s a cheap out of the box scx24, what does everyone expect, modding is literally 50% if not more to this hobby other wise it would be boring (to me). Can’t wait to see more upgrade videos from you and watch more minds be changed, im getting one.
Looks pretty cool. Can't wait to see you upgrade it. I have a couple questions I didn't see in the video or in the comments 1. For some reason I don't really care for the lights can they be toggled on and off from the controller? 2. Is the four-wheel steering variable from the controller? Is there a trim adjustment just for the four wheel steering?
I haven’t gone through the manual yet, but so far as I can tell there is not a way to toggle the lights nor is there a way to trim the rear servo. But I have a hard time believing the rear trim function doesn’t exist. The rear steer is proportional in both settings
Not for me, not interested. Have 4 Scx24, tons of parts, not finished the builds, won't start with another platform that clearly needs a lot of work. Also hate the body.
"Its got a toy look to it." I have a Traxxas Ultimate Desert Racer that I have over $2500 in. I have put more money into my TRX-4 2021 Bronco on scale accessories and "upgrades" than my 1st two real cars cost. Yet to the rest of the world EXCEPT those into RC who know.... These are WALMART toys and you can't convince them otherwise. Learned to NEVER talk about how much I have into my "toys."
I'm sorry but I feel like it should cost 60-80$ knowing your going to need to spend 60$ on servos. I'd have no problem spending $160 if it came with better servos and electronics.

Do you have a video on what is better no foams or foams?
Not specifically, but I have been asked that a few times lately and I probably should put it out there!
awesome vid.
@@CapeCrawlers awesome. thank you. im looking forward to that vid.
I think the brass skid plate would be a good 1st upgrade, it seems like a little sprung weight will settle the body down quite a bit.
I bought the brass skid and the carbon fiber frame rails the same time I picked up the rig!
cant wait to see performance upgrades!
I've got a bunch on the bench ready to go!
@@CapeCrawlers 🤣 not surprising!
Stock-for-stock it needs a lot of work just like the scx24 but I think it's a better starting point and considering it's only 20 or $30 more I think it's worth it
Certainly is. It's a great starting point for a badass rig.
Definitely likes to fall over. Seems pretty cool though, thanks for another great video!! Take care!!!
been following all your vids, thanks for doing all the reviews.
Got it.. Many thanks.
More power to your channel.
Ditto on the ridgerock...need one for sure
I look at that thing everyday online. I need to just buy one already lol
@@CapeCrawlers I have one it's great...made my own links from lowes on the budget since no one picked up the after market on it shame...its great I'm running some proline Ibex 2.2 predator comp on the stock rims goes up everything on the cheap
Hey cape you should try to buy a pre built maxed out axial scx24 bronco from a sketchy website
LOL interesting idea!
Were dod you get those flex ramps from or do you have measurements on the ramp so we could make some
Gazoo RC on Etsy. I know they're 3" tall, but can't recall the rest of the specs. He sells them on his store though.
Awesome video Adam 👍 , can't wait to see how you modify it
Can't wait to get started. It's going to be an awesome project.
Can’t wait till you mod the crap out of this little rig, can’t wait to pick one up!
I'm starting already! It's going to be a fun project.
You did an excellent review. But, you son doing the banana crawl was the best!
I should just do 24 minutes of Axel banana crawling 🤣🤣
@@CapeCrawlers His big smile said it all and that's why we all got into r/c.
Awesome can’t wait to see what you do with these
It's going to be a fun project!
Great review buddy. I’ve pre ordered it in the UK
Thanks! Enjoy!
Great intro. Nice wording...speaks volumes on all fronts🤔
Thank you!
what is those ramps you show at 53 seconds? is there a link to the model files?
They are Gazoo RC flex ramps. Here's a link to his store: www.etsy.com/listing/1354044036/3-flex-ramp?click_key=0b809ba8de5dc1c58950451d2c0557ea130edab2%3A1354044036&click_sum=9c191610&ref=related-3&sts=1
on the fence about getting one of these...
I’ll have an updated video soon. You should watch that and see what it can do with some minor upgrades. I think you’ll be surprised..
@e85ddie thanks for sharing I appreciate it.
Dang I wish I would have known these were coming out before I just bought a deadbolt
You'll still have a blast with the deadbolt!
Is there a way to control the rear steer independently ?
Not in stock form. You’ll need to upgrade your radio to get fully independent rear steer
Thanks for the reply . Do this take micro receivers or regular sized ?
*Hey Adam it's Adam from Reactive Terrain still on the fence about these but would love to see how these handle our trail 👍
You guys build some amazing courses! I would also love to see what it could do on your setups!
Weight down low and better tires. Ax24 is kinda growing on me a little. I'm not much into comp crawler style rigs, but.. may have to get one.
I'm excited to see how it does with some light mods. I think it will wake it up significantly!
It's basically the Losi micro crawler
Damn it, with this and the others I have watched I went and ordered one.
It's fun and it's growing on me more and more every day.
It’s definitely more capable than a stock Scx24 but I believe that the scx24 chassis is better and at full upgraded they will probably be better at different things but my money is on the scx24
I think you're right.
I am a Axial fan and Toyota 😉😎💪🇧🇻
Same!
When do we see axmt24 I'm building a scxmt24 pulling wheelies about to add overdrive. Peace.
Oh man, that would be a gnarly monster truck build!
Can u swap out all the parts with scx24 parts?
I think so. The skidplate is different for sure, and servo trays are different, but that isnt to say that SCX24 parts wont fit.
I mean, I'm hoping Axial will come out with a SCX24 Capra, but with the Ax, it might as will be a Capra. Lol
It's very similar!
@@CapeCrawlers indeed it is.
4ws: if I'm running 4ws it has to be independent 4ws. No question. Paired 4ws is a disadvantage imo
Do the shocks fit the scx24?
I havent tried but the hardware all looks the same.
coolhand here. love your stuff bro.
Thank you!
Just got mine toooooo!
Have fun! It's gonna be epic on your course!
Totally right! I am working on an upgrade video now. The transformation is crazy!!
I cant decide between this and a trx4M
Tough choice, they’re so different!
Love you man
Love you!
Looks pretty cool. Can't wait to see you upgrade it. I have a couple questions I didn't see in the video or in the comments
Super cool I like it
OMG course envy 😂
Ha! I have a hard time believing that!
Nice video❤
Is it the scx killer!?
Not for me, not interested. Have 4 Scx24, tons of parts, not finished the builds, won't start with another platform that clearly needs a lot of work. Also hate the body.
I wouldn't say killer. More like another flavor, a compliment to the existing lineup.
@@snörre23 i agree the scx looks better and it’s less top heavy
@@CapeCrawlers agreed
It's cute I want it to have more fun simply
It is certainly fun, and that's what matters!
Kinda wish I would have waited for these instead of buying a couple Bronco's.
These came out of nowhere!
It hurts to tally up all of the upgrade costs for sure! I think it's the body on the AX24 that gives off the toy grade vibe.
Well, after 500usd upgrades it should be good...!!!...
I sure hope so!
I'm sorry but I feel like it should cost 60-80$ knowing your going to need to spend 60$ on servos. I'd have no problem spending $160 if it came with better servos and electronics.
Can't argue with you there. $160 is the cost of entry, which is high.
its to bad that brilliant thing, only sell with transmitter, i have a transmitter. so this is a Deal Breaker.
