      except that internal floating piston(IFP) which he claims that it is "relatively stationary". It is not that stationary as shown in animation. Every compession the piston rhod ads to a oil volume and that excesive oil ends up in that reservoir where IFP sits by which it separates it from pressurized gas above IFP.

  • @snowcoalRC
    @snowcoalRC หลายเดือนก่อน +41

    This is an incredible animation and one of the best explanations of a lot of these parts that Ive ever seen. In particular I loved your explanation of the bypass shocks. One thing I would like to add though at 16:10 is that the bypass shock reservoir (nitrogen charged) piston serves another purpose and that's to offset the displacement caused by the main shock piston as the shock cycles. As the main piston compresses, the piston rod takes up more and more space inside the shock absorber, and this displaced oil must now go somewhere. Thus the oil flows into the reservoir, and the reservoir piston moves accordingly to account for this difference. The reverse happens during rebound, and additionally, the nitrogen pressurization is done to prevent cavitation and oil foaming during rebound. This is where microscopic air bubbles expand within the shock, causing inconsistent behavior.

    • @Darkralos
      @Darkralos หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Another function the reservoir does is to compensate for volumen change in the fluid due to temperature changes.

    Amazing is becoming a standard for Animagraffs. Wow! And how different this vehicle is from Dakar rally raid vehicles. This one is designed to blast through one known track at full open throttle. Dakar is when you leave into unknown terrain with no gps and must win it. Fast stop/acceleration and cornering is important so vehicle is engineered around that with lighter suspension lower middle center of mass, aerodynamics for top speed sections... air intake diameter and suspension travel is standardized and no unlimited class.
    It would be cool to see a comparison in this format!

    • @richardconway6425
      @richardconway6425 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No GPS? are you sure about that?

    • @PlaySA
      @PlaySA หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Truly the biggest difference between the races these unlimited trophy trucks participate in, and the Dakar, is simply rules and regulations. The Dakar limits air intake, engine volume, and even suspension travel. Basically, there is no class where a truck like this could participate. If they could, they would surely dominate (obviously, simply due to massive advantages in engine power and suspension travel). Many would definitely break down, they are very complex vehicles, but if they can go 1k miles in a single go you'd think they could do just as well in stages with time to fix and tweak settings. There are also other offroad races that take place in stages and allow unlimited, so it's not unheard of. Personally I think it would be amazing if Dakar would allow a new unlimited class, but I don't think they would want to take the attention off of their other premier classes. And I think that's probably fair, it's just a different kind of race they are trying to put on, with different, already well-established classes. But I do believe that if these vehicles were allowed to compete there they would win the whole thing; there is no better vehicle for going insanely fast off road.

    • @richardconway6425
      @richardconway6425 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PlaySA all good points, and correct, afaik. 'Unlimited' classes tend to be the most dangerous ones, and usually end up with the most fatalities. Dakar is already dangerous enough, I can't help thinking that an unlimited class would be significantly more dangerous. There has to be a balance somewhere, for safety's sake.
      Remember Group B rally cars? I know they weren't unlimited, but they were a definite step in that direction, and they didn't last long. The class was shut down because it was just too dangerous.
      It's hard to think of any truly unlimited racing classes - can you think of any?

    Nicely done, very complete. But at 30:40, the pumped air isn't for cooling, it's for breathing in a very dusty environment. Cooling might be a side benefit.
    Filtered air is pumped into the helmet to keep dust out by way of positive pressure. Dust won't come in thru the edges of the visor with positive pressure, and the helmets also have a skirt to keep dust from coming in the bottom.

  • @jmkulikowski
    @jmkulikowski หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The reservoir piston is designed to compensate for the damper shaft’s displacement of oil as it moves in and out of the damper body.
    The mass of the vehicle isn’t “thought to” help it race smoothly; it does. It takes more energy to change the inertia of a massive object compared to a less-massive one. The same principle is used in competitive shooting as the guns are as heavy (massive) as allowed in order to reduce recoil.
    Thank you for all the hard work on these amazing videos! I hope this helps!

    There is a slight error about the power draw. 200 amps at 12 volts is a "mere" 2400 watts, which is about half a water heater. This is a far cry from the electricity needed by a mid-size house.
    Otherwise, that's an incredible job. Animating and commenting on all that for over half an hour is far more content and work than we can appreciate. I had a little idea of how a trophy truck worked, but I was still blown away by how many details there are inside your documentary.
    Again, it's awe-inspiring work and deserves far more credit than I can give you.

    • @snizami
      @snizami 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Exactly, it's an impressive amount of power draw for lights alone but a regular vehicle can even produce and consume the equivalent or more in total considering all the systems and accessories it's packed with. I wouldn't call it a slight mistake, however, as it's a somewhat uninformative comparison of current draw, at most, and is off by nearly an order of magnitude for the intended power comparison. A house running lights at full beans would be a lot brighter than a trophy truck. All the more important to highlight, though, for a channel that is otherwise so thorough with its research and presentation.

    Just a heads up, I saw this visualization on a couple Tiktok's a couple days ago with no crediting of the maker. I tried looking and finding the channels, but couldn't. Master class explanation of the components these monsters use and abuse to become the kings of the Baja. Great job!

    I'm glad he addressed the bypasses and reservoirs, he explained it pretty well. Understand that shock tuning is almost like rocket science. A truly talented technician will have your truck riding like it's on pavement, while a poorly tuned setup will hurt more than it helps. And it takes way longer than u think to get dialed in, because you have to test run each adjustment, and the desert isn't right up the street, usually.

    I love this. Thank you so much. I've seen these close up. The first thing I noticed is the similarities to street four wheel drive vehicles, because there are none. Every single component is custom made, including almost every nut and bolt. Your renderings bring the level of understanding to a new level that you can only get with your Animagraffs, which could easily be used for any level of teaching.

      @@WormBurger 6100 Spec trucks which are the baby brothers of these run either a sealed GM (Chev) or Ford engine as discussed, unlimited trucks (like the Mason 4WD this vid is based on) usually run a bespoke engine (Joe Gibbs, etc.)

    Beyond the sheer awe at what you managed to create from scratch in software, the idea of taking a complicated component and stripping it back to its core components whilst gradually adding back the addenda felt like a cure for stupid.
