Excellent input which answered several of my questions. Thank you! Mevo certainly meets a variety of steaming needs just not every purpose or solution.

Thanks for your input. However I don’t consider these “problems” per say, rather limitations.
The digital zoom on the Mevo start is so good up to 2x that I'm inclined to believe that it's actually a 4K sensor that is downscaled to 1080p to allow pan and zoom on the fly.
They have improved their low light quality as well in recent firmware updates. Great product considering it’s a few years old now.

SRT looks to be the standard of the future but no one seems to know when everyone will change over to it. We’ll likely see both of your suggestions come to pass. When it comes to pass is the big question.
I think the biggest gap I had between expectations and reality is that if you are simultaneously streaming over 4g and recording to SD, if your 4g connection becomes unstable it will not only stop streaming .... it will also decide to stop recording at the same time. For weddings this has proved enough for me to stop offering streaming and instead commit to just upload a recording straight after the ceremony. I tried (without success) to have Mevo address this as a bug in the software.
Looks like it could have been a handy product to have during the period when smaller local bands haven't been able to play live in 2020-2010. However, for $450, you have been able to buy a pretty good mobile phone, which could have acted as a streaming device.
One big problem is that on all the video clips I’ve seen from this the image looks like cheap webcam level crap. I’m sure these have tiny sensors. If I really needed a 3 camera set-up I’d buy 3 x used Canon Ti3s (or similar) and an ATEM mini. Night and day.
I just discovered your videos... well done! We're looking to buy a 3-camera setup, but I want to wait for a 4K model (for better digital zoom) if one is coming. Has there been any chatter about a 4K Mevo model? Thx!
Chatter, yes. Confirmation or timeline? No. What is your intended use?
@@JasonHoffmanYT A church service. If a 4k model doesn't seem imminent, we might just get one Mevo Start along with the Mevo Pro software to add a cell phone as a 2nd/3rd camera.

Have you came up with and solutions for weather proofing it? We don’t play baseball in down pours but do play with mist or light on and off rain. So far I have just not streamed those games but feel bad about that solutions.
1/2 gallon zip lock bag if its not too hot out. I have a friend with a vacuum sealer and he has tried that with some success, again so long as heat buildup isn’t furthered by being outdoors. Anything covering the lens will be a compromise tho. I still have a plus/boost for poor weather use.
The prints I have tried to design all fail at keeping rain out if there is any breeze with the rain.
Get a power vented lucite box open on the bottom...
How does this camera handle the heat and 90 minute softball games. My biggest issue was my GoPro over heating pretty fast and just shutting down. After that it was done. We play typically 4/5 games a day.
I live in the Houston area so it is not uncommmon for the camera to hang on a fence in direct sunlight in 110 degree weather lol.
I have two solutions to offer: For the GoPro, take the battery out and power with a charging block. I did outdoor, direct sunlight tests for a video here and got 3 hours +. For the Mevo, I print and sell a heat shield that, also tested in a video here, will let the Mevo run at about 15 degrees cooler than without. The battery life of the built in Mevo battery is 6 hours streaming.

They have said they are not releasing anything new the rest of this year. Now that’s only a couple of months and they are remarkably closed lipped when it comes to new products. It looks like the Logitech acquisition will be good for Mevo! What will you be streaming?
Jason, follow your mevo instructional videos. I am new to this so just learning. I'm having trouble connecting cameras at the baseball fields. I use a smart phone for wifi, tablet for the app. In test runs at empty ballfields, it works fine. Ive gone to two out of town tournaments and been unable to connect to cameras using this set up. frustrating. what am i missing here? stronger wifi signal? too much interference?
When you say you use a smart phone for Wi-Fi, are you connecting everything to the smart phone’s personal hotspot? How far apart are you (the smartphone and tablet) from your cameras? Are there people or other objects between you and the cameras?
I want to livestream water ski boats at a static finish lines for live TH-cam. Boats are about 10 metres away. What is the best option along the lines of the mevo. Cheers

Audio via the 3.5mm works great. Nothing extra to purchase or subscribe to.

Latency with audio? Not at all. I use mine just like you described all the time.
I think the long term problem for any logitech webcameras is the software is very poor. I have 3 C920 webcams which could be better if the software was better and not an after thought. Logitune and Logitech Capture don't really work inside of Zoom or teams. My next upgrade of my streaming system will not be with Logitech.
I’ve never been a fan of their webcams either, but one of the brightest spots for the Mevo ecosystem is their software. It is iOS/Android software, not windows/mac.
What about overheating? That’s not unique to the Mevo of course, any camera can when the outdoor temps rise and sun shines. Just curious if you have experience with that?
Quite a bit. Two things help greatly with overheating: 1 plug an external power source into the camera. 2 a 3D printed heat shield from my merchandise page.
I want to mount my Mevo fairly high in our gym. There is no way to turn on the camera without physically pushing the power button. The camera should be able to be turned on by the app. This is an issue
I did a video for a work around. In the settings you can select power on/off with usb-c cable. If you have the usb-c cable run to a smart plug, you can turn on and off the smart plug to turn on and off the mevo.
Kept one mounted out of reach in my church for a couple of years and used this scenario every week.
My apologies if you addressed this in a video but what is the best solution as far as live streaming if using this camera in centerfield. My goal is to place this behind the centerfield fence but I will be near dugout so I dont think hotspot will work from that distance
Likely will need a mesh network for cameras in outfield. What are you wanting to the view to be from the outfield camera?

Good pointers! However, these are not 'problems' per se, but rather how the camera was specifically designed for this specific model. What you're pointing out is nice-to-have's and more like limitations to your personal desires.
Thanks for taking the time to engage! This video was the first in a series of ‘what to know before you buy’. This camera was definitely designed for something different than streaming sporting events, but people quickly found out it would, began buying to do so and some were railing at what it wouldn’t do. It was intended to make sure potential users knew those limitations. What do you stream with yours?
Can the mevo be edited in davinci resolve with auto director.Are the cameras constantly going off and on.Off and on is a headache to edit I believe.In a multicam scenario.

I bought the original MEVO camera and I had to sell it fast since its low light performance was so bad and the video noise so high, even with tons of light it was basically unusable...
The original struggled with light, no doubt. I was able to use the Plus for some outdoor streaming like baseball.
@@JasonHoffmanYT Yup, I tried using the original MEVO unit outside for some music festival work and it promptly overheated several times. It was a very, very frustrating user experence overall. Again I hope the Start will resolve some of those issues for my music streaming.
Echo that. I’m in the constant battle with background light from a tv used for slides. I turned off auto mode because it would wash out depending on the tv being light or dark. I turned off auto mode, which helps, but now it loses focus when the slides are dark. 😬
@@charleshudson3430 in the image adjustment settings you can tell it to meter based on whole shot, center or spot. I have light in the background but toward the edge of the shot and choose ‘spot’ for metering and it helps.
Hi, do you know if there is a way to impair a Mevo from a tablet/phone? It always seems to want to reconnect to the most recent device making it impossible to pair a new tablet/phone.
Not clear on the issue. Is mevo app running on both tablet/phones?
It basically wants to keep reconnecting to my phone since it was the last device I used and is impossible to get it to connect to my ipad. It makes me think there should be a way to unpair my iPhone first. I’ve turned my iphone off, turned off its Bluetooth, etc., and no luck.
@@charleshudson3430 it’s going to navigate the connection each time. Maybe just kill the app on the device you aren’t using and open it on the other? I’ve never had this problem and I have two iPads plus iPhone in the room, each willing to connect to a mevo but not keeping the other from it. Unless it’s in an active session (in use) of course.

I want to stream a soccer field to sideline HD. Can I use an iphone to achieve this? Or would the Mevo be a better choice? I only ask because I have the iphone (11 pro) already, it's 4k, etc. but I'm not opposed to spending money to get either an easier setup experience or if there is a higher quality cam that can stream 4k to sideline HD (assuming SLHD supports 4K - I haven't checked)
Right now I just stream straight from the phone to twitch and it works but no overlay or other info but it's free and super easy and never fails.
Quick answer is yes. Uses Larix app to input the SLHD RTMP info and you’re good to go.
They will accept a 1080 stream but once their scoreboards are added it hits TH-cam as a 720 stream.
@@JasonHoffmanYT Ah ok. Despite 720p, Twitch automatically saves the stream to watch later. Does Larix do this or have the option to at least save it to the phone to upload somewhere like youtube or something later on?

If the 1080p limit is a problem, what eqipment would you recommend using to document events instead?
I have a specific scenario in mind. Working as a pit musician I'd like to capture some footage om myself in the pit, and hook up the recording with a split monitor mix as the audio. This is audio wise no problem, since I can just signal split my linear-monitors. But the lighting is often low, and the 1080p limit sounds like it's just not good enough.

Can I record (no streaming) without being connected to WiFi or Ethernet with the sd card?
Absolutely. In the original Mevo app on your phone or tablet connect to the Mevo via cellular connection and tap the red button. On the screen that pops up look at the upper left corner and choose to record.

Yes but because it’s two different things. The recording bitrate will be better than what a streaming destination will use. AND you can record and stream at two different qualities so your recording can always be better.
Any guesses when the next generation cameras will be out?

I bought two of these and I can't seem to stream without them freezing up. So frustrating.
What device are you controlling them with?

@@douglashawkins4402 What router model? Just trying to eliminate possible weak links. How far are you from each part of the setup when streaming? When you say freezing up, do the cameras just lock up and have to be rebooted or do you mean the image freezes? What model iphone/ipad do you have?
@@JasonHoffmanYT I have an ASUS router. My iPhone and iPad are both brand new bought this past January. I mean the image is freezing up. When watching on facebook it freezes throughout. The cameras are 10 ft apart and the router is about 25-30 ft away.
@@douglashawkins4402 unless there are obstructions I dunno. I have one Mevo that doesn like to be more than 20 or so feet away but the rest of mine will be rock solid at your distances.
i'm not a fan of the Mevo of a 1080 HD
If you know what you’re getting its workable. And we can’t stream higher than this. BUT MAN oh man I would love to have a quality 4k sensor to shoot thru with Mevo. Thanks for the comment!

Yes, it’s nothing to take lightly. But that’s for 3 cameras.
Mevo is made for more cooking stream not Close range content. It never claims to be far range area like soccer 🙈🤦♀️ its made for mostly for that streamers cooking or inside. They never said anything about outside. Your review dont make sens. Idk why people simple jump into inclusion try use it in area that not made for. Thats why go pro camera is mainly made for outdoor each camera is made for their own. Mevo mainly focus on inside door and outdoor we have gopros like if you snowboarding u have it on your head. 🤦♀️ and other camera for soccer. Just sad how people give bad feedback when mevo never claim they made it for outdoor. So it kind giving what its promising when it 3pack for cooking. You dont need zoom when they got 3 pack camera for cooking streamer you Control them on the app.
I appreciate your defense of the Mevo. It is a great device for cooking show, DJing, worship services (my main use for it) AND I have had great success streaming baseball games. With my Multicam setup I’ve even streamed football games. But some folks will buy it expecting it to zoom across a venue and need to know it was not designed for that. At least this is what I was hoping to communicate.

Just simple Samsung New generation is perfect for film something outdoor i seen people use simple Samsung phone to film short films and it came out amazing. Its depend on the person how good they are shoot things. Now days you dont super expensive camera or super professional camera just shoot things. It's all about tricks and skills thoes people that film it. Samsung even promot their phone shooting film on it. It's was couple year ago too. Now New one coming out the camera each New phone of their getting better. I seen this camera mostly used for shoot in door content. Mostly twitch streamers use it for cooking stream. I personally dont have but told and recommand streamer that do cooking stream she should check this 3 pack out cuz she use her phone its not enough for each angle of what she is doing. Multi 3pack is perfect for stream cooking. Each angle you can control of simple of app on this mevo cameras

@@JasonHoffmanYT My gauge to most any video camera is "will it make pictures people will pay for?" I am just starting to experiment with the MEVO Stream and we will see. My real problem is why the MEVO cameras look so poor when most any cellphone camera looks so good with the same footprint in terms of lens, sensor and so forth.
