    To be clear, the NearStream will not be recognized by the Mevo Multicam app. IF they enable NDI in the future it will be recognized as an NDI input for Mevo Pro subscribers.

    We use a Mevo Start for recording our services. Was my go-to choice being an affordable NDI camera. We used OBS on a laptop for the actual recording and video manipulation.
    We have been looking into going to a multi camera setup. As of this comment, it would seem NDI is now available with the Nearstream VM33.
    Would seem the Nearstream cameras have really upped their game against the Mevo Starts.
    I am leaning toward the Nearstream cameras now as the cameras we will be purchasing, NDI with optical zoom 8 mics is hard for the mevo start to match despite once bei g my go to cam of choice. The ball is now in Logitechs court to answer a better camera in their price range.

      NDI does open some great options for you. The mics are not that different in reality, I’d still use an external mic for either.

    Great points. I'm leaning towards mevo, but if the camera quality is upgraded I'd be upset at spending 1k

      The investment into live streaming equipment is nothing to sneeze at. You really can’t go wrong with the Mevo. There is so much you can do in their software and it will be a good while before the others catch up on this front.

    Need help
    I’m trying to use this Mevo as a go pro
    I’m trying use it as a body cam
    What do you suggest
    How could I do that

      The EIS in the Mevo is not really good enough for body mount. If you can find a chest mounted gimbal it would work well on it but a helmet is going to be pretty shaky.

    Thanks for all the info you put out. I’ve been watching your videos for awhile now. So I have been using my son iPhone or mine to video his baseball games. Now the last tournament it constantly over heated and I go to great lengths to keep it cooled down or out of the sun. So with that said would the Mevo still be on top or are they all the same.

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Software will be the limiting factor on the new ones for a little while. It is keeping Mevo on top for now.

      I had the same problem with phones, even with active cooling. We decided to use the Mevo with Jason's passive heat shield. Never over heated in the West Texas summer heat!

    I would assume, if we pushed the vm33 into propresenter, and used propresenter for our software, we could get around the lesser software for the vm33???

      The only way to get it there as of now is usb cable. NDI is forthcoming for the vm33 but not yet…

    Jason, big fan and great content! I have tested the NearStream and while it may be superior in hardware it should still be considered a product in Beta compared to a finished, polished, product like the Mevo. I really wanted to enjoy the NearStream but it is not even close to being ready for prime time…

      Thanks! I remember the comments about the original Mevo software being similar. And you’re not wrong, there is a LOT of software advancement needed. I just hope their sales are strong enough to allow them to continue development.

      Perfect for smaller fields, softball and younger ages. For high school baseball and older its going to be a bit short.

    Jason, I don't think you make it clear from the start whether or not the NearStream may be switched wirelessly within the Mevo App. I realize that from a wired connection anything can be switched using a whole constellation of hardware (I am trying to sell all my gear from my last wired mobile unit) but it is the wireless integration in a muti-camera application that is the real sales point of the Mevo system.

    What is “Stage Manager” which is on your pad. Is that part of ProPresenter?

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stage Manager is a feature of iOS 16 on M1 and later iPads. Allows up to four apps to be running and all be considered top layer. Which means the streaming apps which would normally lose connection with cameras or drop the stream will stay connected if tapping away from the app to one of the others.

    Jason, thanks for another great product comparison. I recently switched from using my phone's camera for streaming sporting events to using a Mevo Start. I have also been periodically testing the VM33. As you identified, there have several updates to the Nearstream app, and the improvements are very noticeable. I'm glad I haven't given up on the equipment based on my first experiences with it. That said, I still have issues with the stream freezing (audio does not cut out), or ocassionally the stream just completely drops out even though I'm connected to a wifi network with 10+ Mb upload speeds. I reduced the quality to 720, and it still seems to faulter. What has been your experience with the VM33 streaming stability? Lastly, the audio quality seems horrendous. The poor audio quality also seemed evident in the brief seconds that you shared from the VM33. Besides using an external mic, do you have any suggestions? I'm going to switch to the "background music mode" to see if that improves it at all. Here's a sample of the audio from the last game I streamed with the VM33..I still need to work on camera positioning, but the camera was positioned from the spectators (20ft+) and the audio is aweful

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah they haven't really tuned the mics in this yet. What I can hear of your volleyball match is in keeping with where they are so far. It feels like they had more video issues than they expected so audio is lower on the bug fix list.

    • @superbmediacontentcreator
      @superbmediacontentcreator 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To me, it sounds like you have a couple of AGCs, limiters, or gates and they are fighting each other. You need to go through your audio chain and turn off this stuff. Then test and turn on only one of the AGCs or limiters at the end of the chain.
      For volleyball basketball swimming and other events held in acoustically awful boxes use shotgun mics start with two) as they will cut back on the "slapback" audio and increase the source audio level, not all the "junk" (we call it noise) that just makes your audio sound like mush.
      In audio, you want the primary sound to be dominant with the echo and so forth after it. In your case, all the audio sources all the echo, and so forth are all at the same level. Think of audio like watercolor paints and you have mixed all the colors together for a brown mess.

  • @soundlayers
    @soundlayers 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I appreciate your videos and I am still trying to get more info about this relatively new product. Here are a couple questions I don't think you have covered yet in your videos. First, can the usb port of VM33 be used for audio input? For example, I use Shure MV88+ microphone with my Mevo cam. Wondering if same can be done with VM33. Second, a different reviewer showed sync problems between audio and video, even for using internal microphone. Have you noticed such issues? And have they been resolved with a firmware update?

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you can use the usbc port for audio. There is a toggle in the audio settings to turn this on.
      There were some sync issues. Can not verify whether theyve been resolved

    • @soundlayers
      @soundlayers 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JasonHoffmanYT Thanks for the info. Have you experienced the audio/video sync issues in your usage?

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In recording, yes. But adjusting the speed of the audio to 99% in post processing put it back right. In streaming, no. I dont use the mic in the VM33 when streaming. But I dont stream using the NearStream software either.

  • @Michael-ll3rk
    @Michael-ll3rk ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder how easy (or not) it will be to color match both cameras if you mix them in the same stream.

    • @JasonHoffmanYT
      @JasonHoffmanYT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Both have extensive controls for image adjustments BUT there’s a lot of software development needed before they will be in the same software. Except something like OBS or the YoloBox Pro

    • @superbmediacontentcreator
      @superbmediacontentcreator ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonHoffmanYT The easiest way to color match is using a monitor with vectorscope and waveform monitor on board. Then all you need is a set of grey and color chip charts (under the same light) and then just hit the marks and vectors. This is pretty high up in the food chain of engineering as far as the average video engineer/producer but is fairly straightforward to do. I teach new video engineers all the time via Zoom. The technique is also a good way to do a baseline setup of all your cameras "on your bench."

    • @medialex78
      @medialex78 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The best way to get around colour matching at all has been to use only cameras of the same type. With Mevo Start this is quite hard due to the lack of optical zoom, but there is a lot of mounting equipment out there to put it as near as possible to the desired object.

    • @superbmediacontentcreator
      @superbmediacontentcreator 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@medialex78 Sorry but the commenter does not really understand what he is talking about and is throwing money at the issue which really does not work since the same model cameras can be set up differently at the factory and in a repair and calibration facility depending on the taste of the engineer/technician..
      Those of us who actually know what we are doing can color match any camera you shoot with (up to the limit of the particular device) even of different model types and so forth. We can match a cell phone to a $200,000 broadcast camera or match a recorded segment to an incoming feed. We use two calibrations (devices) or in the field, we use charts of "known" values.
      This starts with a white balance (or appropriate color temperature setting) that sets the peak and black level the same for the color temperature of all three colors. We then shoot and record a black-and-white chart sometimes called a chip chart (learn about Ansel Adams) followed by a color calibration char or color bar chart.
      In post-production (or in a live camera situation using the CCU controls as the MEVO Start has) you first set your black and white levels to the known standard levels using a waveform monitor then set up your colors to hit the boxes with a vectorscope... simple if you know what you are doing.
      In broadcast television, there is a person called a "Shader" who watches over the cameras and is in charge of matching and keeping the black and iris levels where they need to be during production.
