I don't know if I can stress enough but please read the T.A.R.G.E.T. Manual folks, if you are having problems. This video is great for the game shown and many thanks. But after reading the beginning of the manual, the manual goes on to explain that there are many forms of configuring what you can do with T.A.R.G.E.T. software and the Thrustmaster controllers, how for example to get the throttle to work from 0 - Max using a 'J' Curve, rather than having the throttle working on an 'S' Curve. Another thing it also goes on to say is how you can configure the throttle for the 'afterburner' to kick in when the throttle is at 95%, ( for those of you who might have a game that includes an afterburner ! ). I'm personally finding it hard to keep up with the manual but patience is the key folks, ( I'm sure the younger generation will understand the manual like 'ducks taking to water', I'm not up-to-date with the latest in IT sadly for me ! ) Good luck. p.s. Thanks for the video Sir, it kept my interest in the Thrustmaster controls and T.A.R.G.E.T. software just when I was about to chuck it ! And now I'm learning... ( slowly...)
That's an extremely useful combat maneuver you did at the start.Idk why you said it's useless....Even without the level of precision to exit a station (which is just basically showing off)
I picked up two of these earlier today for both SC and ED. I'll be happy if I can just fly a straight line without constantly rolling due to the mouse moving around my screen. Can't wait.
I think this is an excellent video. Very useful. He demonstrates the power of the software and it's utility, shows how to use the software, and doesn't repeat himself time and again. I was able to use the software without any time consuming issues solely because I watched this vid. Keep in mind that the video only addresses the use of the software. It doesn't get into mapping key bindings on the stick or throttle. That's a whole different animal. You'll need to scrounge around other resources for that info, but ultimately it starts within Elite Dangerous: "Main Menu"..."Options"...."Controls"...."Presets" down arrow to access the "Thrustmaster T.16000M HOTAS". Click that, then "Apply" at bottom left of screen. That'll set Thrustmasters pre-configured keys for playing Elite Dangerous - you'll be up and running. You can go back and customize and tweak those keys if you wish. Many thanks Scarob. Well done!
As long as you're not using fixed weapons or much FA Off. I find myself fighting the yo-yo of over steer when trying to aim fixed weapons. That's where the curve adjust in TARGET comes into play. Fly safe commanders o7.
No, it's nearly October 2021! Just got this stick and throttle today, unfortunately I can't use it till Monday but mega useful. I note you're only handling analogues on this, does elite have its own profile for the digital switches and triggers?
What a great video, liked and subbed thanks to it! Awesomely made man from all the information and demonstration to the nice feels and skill show off at the end :)
Great video, thank you, I am having problems getting the custom bindings to show up in game. I made a profile and run the profile with no errors but I can not find the bindings inside the game
Why the hell doesn't TARGET just have a visual indicator of the joysticks position in its own software, it's so damn annoying to start/stop the config over and over to adjust deadzone and sensitivities!
I have to laugh. The vast majority of videos are produced by users in Great Britain. I go looking and discover this game was originally released in 1984. One of The original 3D video games of it's day. This game put GB on the map for video game production. At least it was one of them. My first PC was a Tandy 1000. I played things like "Police Quest" and such. Good times then, good times now. This updated version is so much fun.
evoeightyci I started out on a 286 with 5.25 floppy drives. My favorite game growing up was Police Quest...now I’m a 15-year midnight shift Police Sergeant. (Too bad Surgeon Simulator wasn’t my favorite game back!) Good ole Sonny Bonds, Keith, Marie, and Carol.
Nice tuts. finally i got it to work as combined driver in ED. this i think happend because i switched the flightsticks to different usb ports, so they appear in the config controller app as the first ones and not my Razer Chroma keypad as first device, that created alot of weird behaviour. also figured out how to keep you customized binding without overwriting them.
Hi there, ive installed everything and doen all my binds in game and everything works like a dream.. I have created a profile in the tool as you demo'd to mess around with but when I run the profile and bring up the joystick control panel I only have one entry for the physical unit and nothing virtual and nothing at all works in game. Turn profile off and im fine. Any ideas??? Cheers..
Same here... I wanted to use "Target" just to set the curves (Elite Dangerous only manage an standard dead zone)... But then none of the buttons I press seems to work on the virtual game controller... I don't know if that can be fixed usind directly the script editor, but the GUI seems is not a good solution... Is sad, because I really could use those curves...
This was exceptionally useful. I think it would be great if you can share your keybindings as well, and shared a little bit of insight on the macros you personally use.
I have an issue were the TARGET software in Elite is saying the TWIST of the T16000M and the throttle movement from the FCS throttle is the same bind. The same thing it only happens with TARGET profiles. Sucks cuz it doesn't do that when TARGET is not being used.
Edward Huggins in the target software you can reassign the axis using the the drop down menu on the same screen you use to adjust curves. Look on the left hand side and just set one to a unique axis. Probably z slider.
Thanks for the video but when I set the deadzones, it disables all the HOTAS buttons for me. Please can anyone help me out? I've just bought the FCS HOTAS and have been having a nightmare for the last 2 days and now am close to giving up :(. I followed your guide but when I run the script, I can no longer use any buttons. However when I close TARGET, then the buttons all work in Elite Dangerous. I've tried adding buttons as events but none work with press/pulse/hold&release at all when using TARGET. What my final goal is, is to have only TS2 (Joystick) and TBTN2 (Throttle) as a Shift key & then the axis with deadzones like the video shows, but leave the rest of the keys as standard. Please can anyone help? Edit. Also, when I enable the script then check windows joysticks, the joystick axis don't register although the throttle ones show in windows but neither work in Elite and also no buttons register in either case. Although again, everything works when I disable TARGET. I've tried creating a new profile and trying again but keep getting the same results.
That's a nasty little problem! Make sure TARGET is running with admin rights. Might be worth checking the device priority in Windows USB Game controllers Advanced tab. Run the script and then click the advanced button in Windows Game controllers and give the priority to Thrustmaster Virtual Game Controller. Sometimes when you've had other makes of joystick connected it can cause issues like this. Also check the output at the bottom of the script editor when you run it - make sure there are no errors. Good luck!
Same, not sure is changes in windows 10 with 1909. I have latest drivers & firmware, also Inew to this even with year playing with hardware. The target software hangs creating the files for me. Even tried 1903 build and on another laptop with t.16000m fcs on it own and also with throttle.
The darn thing disabled my thruster side switches. I couldn't get even get the game controller settings to detect them as long as the profile was running. I'm sorry but TARGET is terrible.
What can I do to make my ship go to zero? This is ridiculous. Using 16000 hotas. If I restart the game it works until I jump or dock, then it's back to 30 with throttle back all the way.
The only issue I have now after getting it working is the combined driver it creates appears to have bound all the buttons and triggers to keyboard keys - so for example the main trigger comes up in Elite as space bar.. but I have space key on a small numpad next to my throttle as deploy cargo scoop, so weirdly in game when I hit fire it suddenly opened the cargo scoop! Seems stupid as without the target software running the HOTAS is correctly defined and their buttons come up in the key binding screen as being, well, buttons! It's annoying as hell because literally all I want to do is have a dead zone on the throttle so I can make it full-range, maybe some curves on the joystick axis. Currently trying other software to see if that helps.
Thanks for the Video, just show what can be done with experience a control.I have recently purchased a pair of T16000s, when using TARGET's GUI, I cannot separate the two HAT's, both are seen as the same, is there a remedy for this? Used with E.D.Thanks for reading,
Hello. So much I forgot about when making this video! Yes you can remedy the hat issue on the third screen when running the wizard. Use the slider bottom left to select the correct stick the click the hat. The right hand window should show H1U > Press > Hat up (depending on what position you clicked on). You can then change the assignment in the middle window in the Key Command box. For the purpose of Elite I changed the right hat to keyboard up down left and right for simplicity as I would use that for pip management anyway but you can assign it to anything you like including Direct X game buttons if you click the Virtual Game / Keyboard / Mouse button you can see all the available options.
I get an error with even the default (fcf file) ED settings from Thrustmaster but it works to "default". When I do a custom like yours, I get a fatal error. Both have to do with the throttle driver.
Man, I just want to know how to make everything work in game... It shows up in VR, but not when I'm just playing the game as is and it's like I have to go through and program every single button!
I do need help if pos, followed instruction plus pain staking button to key binding, saved the config but stick is default in game, ie. x, y fire and boost only, what happened to all the t16000 buttons I programmed?
really usefull video thanks man. worth a sub. my issue is after every windows update I have to go into regedit as usual and reset power management etc, but after not using the sticks for a while I now find I cannot get them to work together at all. it used to be the case that when you run a profile in target windows USED to display the sticks as thrustmaster combined in the usb game controller setup, now it has 1 as thrustmaster root and one as t16000 so I cant get them to work together at all. if anyone has any ideas id be v greatfull
@Scarob Awesome vid thank you very much for showing this as its of great value. How do you rate the durability of this Thrustmaster stick plus throttle after x hours of play? Looking at purchasing a hotas soon and although money is of no object as to what i get - I've seen disturbing reviews across all makes and it really seems pot luck even with the warthog as to whether you end up with sticky problems and and although people have put up plenty of DIY vids on how to fix various issues I don't see I should have to become an expert on disassembling a stick for the price paid for the likes of a x56 or a warthog. This Thrustmaster t16000 hotas is one of the few that seems to have pretty good reviews all round and although plastic, bang for the buck seems to do the job .
Glen Payne thanks. I only bought the T16000M as I wanted to fly dual stick and this stick can be converted for the left hand. For a long time I've used the an x45 which is now very old but it has always been a little bit sticky. I was so impressed with the Thrustmaster I just went ahead and bought a second. It's been about 2 years and no signs of any issues at all on either stick. I can't recommend them enough tbh. As I understand it uses the exact same hal sensor as the warthog. I'm still looking for a replacement throttle. It will definitely be a Thrustmaster.
@scarob many thanks for your reply i was going to go all out and get a warthog but perhaps this t16000 hotas - as im not a dual stick person - will be more than good enough
RUN CONFIGURATION gives 2 errors. Error: (internal) cannot associate a filter with the selected USB HID device "VID_044F&PID_0402" Error: (internal) cannot associate a filter with the selected USB HID device "VID_044F&PID_B10B" When I move the joystick, the + sign doesn't do anything. This isn't working for me at all. After doing some more reading and turning off the computer's ability to shut down my USB ports to save energy, I am able to set up curves for my right hand Warthog but no matter what I do I cannot get my left hand 16000 to respond to the TARGET software. I really need curves on my yaw as well as my pitch and roll, so I need to solve this for it to be useful. I tried using TARGET for just the Warthog, and that doesn't work at all. When I try to play ED, no response comes out of either stick when I have TARGET running. This is just totally worthless without better instructions.
Saw this on reddit: There is a warning telling us when installing target I should unplug all my controllers first. so one reinstall later, it works! Incase someone else has the same issue: 1: uninstall target 2: run the installer again 3: unplug controllers 4: proced with the installer 5; when prompted to restart your pc plug you controllers again 6: restart and it should now work
@@paulcollier7138 Thank you, I tried this and I get no errors when I RUN PROFILE, but when I'm running TARGET, the game still can only see my Warthog joystick. It can't see my left 16000 at all. I went into Training and it couldn't see anything. So I went into the Key Bindings, and it would let me bind the Warthog but not the 16000.
@@paulcollier7138 I just finally got Joystick Curves working! Yeah! Could not get TARGET to work. Period. I followed all the fixes I found on google, and nothing helped.
@scarob you brilliant beast. I'm trying to copy your configuration so I can use them as a launching point and make slight adjustments... however the original upload seems to be in a filetype that's no longer supported? As when I try to Edit it I get a dump. The video is descriptive enough (THANKS) to get me everything I need except how you're integrating the profile with FA off. Do you simply have the different controls bound to the same mouse button as you're binding the flight assist toggle in game? Or is there more to it? Thanks.
To my earlier question it seems you exported your configuration as a script so that it would launch faster, which I noticed you commented on below. I guess I should just get used to editing it notepad++ instead of using their GUI! And actually I didn't realize how much other customization you had in there with the HAT pip management macros. That's awesome! However, for my troubles, none of the HAT buttons work on that right stick - in game or in the Windows Joystick tester. All the rest of the buttons seem to work on that stick, and the left stick all buttons + the HAT buttons seem to work fine. Any advice on remediating this? I tried adding the line you mentioned below for the user with the POV HAT issues to your script and launching it but it returned with a syntax error.
Potentially connecting more dots... is the issue that you've scripted those buttons to execute keyboard commands? So in ED I would need to map some specific keys to the PIP management that align to what you've set them to?
Mine has zero play but I put my deadzone at 5 anyway. As for the curve no matter how high it had zero affect when I tested it in the joystick properties. Didn't test in game though. Just wondering if there's any advantage to using the TARGET software vs the same setting in the game?
Hey nice video. I setup my hosas without target. Do I need to rebind the keys if I want to use target with elite? I'm just curious because I spendet about 5h and more to the keybindings. All just because elite didn't accepted my 2 option keys to get the triple out of the view keys. I needed to edit the bind file with an editor to get things work properly. Why I'm asking, the sensitivity of the left hand stick is to large. On that stick is throttle yaw and side thrusters. For better face off results I'd like to follow your guide. But the last time it didn't worked. At one boot elite thought the right stick is the left next time it changed....
Yes you will need to rebind the axis controls again. Elite will see the HOTAS as a different device with the Target profile loaded so you will need to go through the flight controls once more.
Great video. I am new to HOTAS setups and have a question. After going through these steps I am given a .fcf. file. I just don't know what to do with it now to get Elite Dangerous to recognize the configuration in the control options for the game. I see other videos referencing using the TARGET Script Editor, but in those videos they are using a .fmc file. Any help would be appreciated. Also, you have a wonderful voice for YT videos.
Thanks Brian! When you've created the configuration it should appear in the left hand box on the first TARGET GUI window. Just highlight it and click run. This window will show any FCF files in your documents folder. FCF files only work with the GUI application. The script editor also allows you to run an exported version in TMC format. The script editor uses less memory and is a better way to load your configuration once you're happy with it. You can export the TMC format with the last screen of GUI. You'll find a VIEW SCRIPT button which opens a TMC in notepad which you can save to disk and open with the script editor. Hope that makes sense. Good luck.
No it might improve it but it won't last. Most likely a dirty potentiometer. You can clean it with switch lube but you need to take it apart. Quite a common problem.
Can someone point me to where this software is? I searched the download section and got all my T-16000m drivers but I don't see T.A.R.G.E.T. anywhere. I went to the T.A.R.G.E.T. site and it just sends you to shops to buy the controllers or PDFs on how to use T.A.R.G.E.T.
When you go to Thrustmaster's site you to to "Downloads" then pick your device. The download is the last one listed under "Software." The first one is the manual for said software. Hope this helps.
I kinda feel like an idiot. I found it at the bottom of the software section under all the PDFs. Still think the site could be laid out better though :P Also.. Having issues with the program setting up multiple buttons on the joystick and throttle as the same button when they combine the controls. I ended up just using Elite's in game deadzones and ignoring the curve stuff.
I had problems setting up the GUI too. I run it on T16000 settings In the game. Here's a great video on setting up fire groups if you like. th-cam.com/video/oO1E9_sPtvg/w-d-xo.html
seams like i am gonna have a lot of things to thinker around with when i get my t16000m got it with a throtthel controller ED is not good for my wallet got the game on steam the other day seams fun but close to uncontrollible on mouse keyboard for me (flight assist off) the bloddy ship just keept on spinning so orderd a stick now i better like it as i am a few bucks in to it
I can't seem to find any information on what profile to use in Elite Dangerous when running this software. Generic Joystick, Empty, Original Hotas T160000 profile? At any rate, none of them seem to recognize the curves or dead zones that I have set up in Target, so I am assuming that it doesn't work.
Hi sorry for late reply. First make sure the profile is fully loaded and test in Windows gaming controllers control panel app before loading Elite (Thrustmaster Virtual Game Controller). When you have confirmed the stick is working in Windows you can then load Elite. Sometimes it takes a while for the profile to load. Select the custom profile in the controls menu of Elite and then go ahead and bind all the axis by double clicking roll, pitch etc and physically moving the stick. You should then see the axis in the Elite controls menu. I failed to actually show this in the Elite menu on my video.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I just got the T16000 and TWC5 and have to set it all up for Elite. I've been playing a while with mouse and Key but really looking forward to setting up and binding all the keys. Question: Can you use the software to include "scrolling through menus?" As when you go through the missions or the "lock destination, or scroll through the available destinations with this set up can all this be done through these controls? Basically, I'm looking to see if these replace the keyboard completely.
Yup thats exactly how I use it. It's just bound to the hat and shares the same in game binds as power assignment which is the cursor keys. You would need to setup key repeat to have it held down and 'scroll' but its easy enough to just tap through the menu.
I am getting more and more frustrated... I have the TM 16000 duo and have no effing clue how to set this up... I get the dead zone and curve stuff that you handle nicely in this video... BUT how do you get the controls actually set up? you just gloss over that like we all know... like the stick is already set up to the specific controls of the game... when I launch a game nothing happens because the stick is not set up... and everyone just puts out videos about dead zones and curves...
Hi there. This video is about setting up the joystick for any game. The software does not set it up for Elite Dangerous. Once you have the sensitivity sorted out you have to bind all the keys and axis in the game. Just remember to load the profile before you load Elite. Then go to the game options and select the axis or button and move the joystick or press a button to bind the control.
@Joseph Paredes Gleespen and when I try to do that... nothing happens... that is my point... in the gam it says that pitch and yaw are on the joystick axis then I go into the game, move the stick... nothing
@@X-Posed23 I'm sorry I don't understand what the issue is. Seems you are creating a profile and just expecting it to work in whatever game you are playing. The Target software is a program for fine tuning your joystick. It doesn't setup the controls for your games. You have to go into the game options menu and find controls/keybinding and literally go through the list and bind all the controls and buttons yourself.
Good tutorial. Can you please explain how to set up controls for FA off and FA on as you seemed to suggest this was possible and that the control set up would switch depending on the flight mode you were in
You can achieve this with the script. In the video description I've included a TARGET script file. The different modes are activated with 'FAswap' joy button 2 in this case. The axis profiles for each mode are under int FAoffAxis() and int FAonAxis(). Although I personally don't use a different FA off profile.
Thank you, I went through the script and found it. I am using your script now with just slightly modified curves and its great so thanks for that, makes a big difference. I was having a problem with my weapons not firing correctly so I removed the pulse+ text and it fixed it However I am still having a problems with the function where you pull the trigger, the pips go to weapons and then go back. The weapon fires first and then the pips are shift to weapons and back immediately after I release the trigger. Do you know how to fix this?
I didn't follow the comment @ ~9:30 about the fore/aft thrusters only working in standard flight, can you expand on that? Are you saying there's a different type of thruster than the main forward/reverse that's only engaged when not in supercruise, or are you saying the buttons won't adjust your supercruise throttle position?
@scarob, thanks for the tips, I have a question though. I had all binding set up before I followed your setup. Do I have go and change the controller in Elite options? I noticed that a general joystick came up in the options. Like you showed, in the game controller settings I have a virtual controller now, is that the "new" controller that I have to set up now? I hope it makes sense.
Hello, ty for great video. Would you reccomend me getting 2 T16000M's or a HOTAS version? I never used joysticks in any game I play E:D for 2.5 yr's and I will buy 1st setup this week.
For space sims I personally think a dual stick setup offers greater control but if you intend to use the hardware for flight sims as well you would be better with hotas which works well with both types. Maybe start with hotas and find a deal on a secondary T16000m later on?
Gee it might help explaining how to play the game with these configurations. It should automatically save to "custom" or be able to be accessed in some way by the game. Time for more Googling.
Is this still relevant for 2021? I'm having issues with my right and left sticks having multiple inputs on one axis. I damn near lost my Anaconda setting this up agian. No idea how on earth I did it last time, no profile seems to work now.
Why use this instead of in-game settings? For example in Rise of Flight I can edit response curves in-game, is there any point in editing in T.A.R.G.E.T software then?
SplinterOscar some games don't offer this level of adjustment. Those that do are quite limited. Personally I find I don't need to tune the stick when playing flight sims.
Mark Duo are you using up to date drivers and software? There used to be a bug causing the hat to stop working. Creating a script and adding the following lines fixed it. MapKey(&T16000, H1U,DXHATUP); MapKey(&T16000, H1R,DXHATRIGHT); MapKey(&T16000, H1D,DXHATDOWN); MapKey(&T16000, H1L,DXHATLEFT);
I just bought EDI and the t.16000M, do I have to manually every single button in-game and tell it what I wanted to do? Everybody on Reddit says that it's plug and play!
@@RBRM3 I had to manually go back in and reset my binds and both T16k sticks. I had to do it again when my computer burned down due to a new bad motherboard board install. Yeah, that was fun. Once done you are done. The more demanding part is setting up the gal map as it will take a few tries.
@@randyailie3459 I think elite saves a file for your custom key bindings so if you copy that once you're happy and drop it into onedrive or some online storage you should be able to bring it back up in the event of critical system failure or a new PC. Looks like it's in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings
You've probs figured it out by now but for more plug-n-play there's binding presets for ED on Thrustmaster's site you can download, pop it in the ED bindings folder then select it from the drop down bindings preset in-game. You can obviously customize it from there.
If you look on windows controller options, you can see the setup seems to be the reverse (left/right) of the option selected under the joystick on the switch, try to change this switch setting
Can I just confirm something? I have been using my T1600m for months and have all my buttons assigned and know where they are in VR. If I want to adjust curves - do I have to start with a blank joystick - adjust curves - then assign every button again in Elite? Because this may put me off as it seems like a long job.
I'm afraid so. When you run a new profile with curves Windows will see the T16000 as a new virtual device and so will games including Elite. Also Elite has a habit of wiping custom binds on updates. It isn't as bad as it seems though. If you do decide to go for it make a note of your bindings and I can recommend EDProfiler for making it easy to switch them on the fly. (Also a great tool for VR) You'll need to backup bindings first. www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/42yob3/psa_how_to_prevent_your_custom_bindings_from/ www.drkaii.com/tools/edprofiler I haven't played for a while now so some of this info maybe out of date.
You were kind enough to answer once - so can I impose myself again, I have set the curves, I have created a button which sets various pip settings. Do I have to run T.A.R.G.E.T every time before I play the game? or does the configuration of curves and button save into the HOTAS file and I just run the game without starting T.A.R.G.E.T?
Hey Scarob. Great Video BTW. I have a problem I was really hoping you could help me with. After downloading the script for Elite Dangerous from Thrustmaster's support (FCS Hotas for elite dangerous tho I do not have pedals), I load the config file, un include the TFRP Rudder because I do not own the pedals just the T.1600M and TWCS Throttle. Everything seems to be going smoothly, I run the config file and click on Joystick Control Panel to double check everything is working correctly. The fist button I press is the trigger on the T.1600M and It does not respond. None of the numbered buttons on the bottom of the control panel light up. That is the same with every other button on the Joy. The only thing that seems to respond correctly is the axis on the joystick itself. I can see the cross hair moving on the control panel. I stop running the config and checked to see if the controls are functioning correctly by testing each control separately by clicking properties in the Game Controllers Tab. Every single button and axis work correctly. Sorry to bother you Scarob, I really hope you are able to assist me. Cheers, The Joker.
After downloading FCS Hotas T.A.R.G.E.T profile for Elite Dangerous from Thrustmaster's support site (support.thrustmaster.com/en/product/twcsthrottle-en/) and running the configuration. I have noticed that the throttle and Joy have the same Direct X events. Eg: When I press Button no.1 (Trigger) on the Joy its has the same Direct X event as button no.1 on the Throttle. I am now Creating a Config from scratch to see if that helps. So far every event I have programmed is working. I know this because I have tested every event one by one via the control panel (after running config of course). I will keep creating events one at a time until all Direct X game buttons have been utilised (That's 32 if anyone didn't know) and update soon.
Yeah some of the buttons and axis are duplicated on the device when using the profiler and you need to make them unique. Bit of pain but worth getting it setup.
So true about the pain part but well worth it in the end. Anyone reading this thread should be able to get a good understanding. Also for any one reading this you will find that the FCS Hotas have more than 32 buttons in total. Direct X only has 32 programmable buttons for your peripherals. But.. I have good news! you can use T.A.R.G.E.T to program buttons that you cannot set to your Direct X by programming them to your USB codes/numbers. There are over 100 so there is plenty. One thing you must remember. When programming a peripheral button to a USB#, take note of which key the USB# corresponds to. Now you know which key you are effectively taking away from the keyboard and programming onto your peripheral.
As far as I know, every key on your keyboard has its own USB code/number, for eg: "a" is USB code/number 4 . You can save one of those USB codes/numbers to one of the buttons or switches on your peripheral for it to work correctly. Take note which key the USB code/number corresponds to. That key will be a dead key when running your configuration. I hope that helps, Its only self taught information I thought to share that might help others having trouble with this T.A.R.G.E.T GUI.
Every time I run the config to test the play in my joystick. All I end up with is the virtual software and then my joystick stops responding. @scarob any help? I am not sure why this is happening. It worked great the first time, but the second time.. it just stops responding. The light even on my joystick stops when running the config.
I found to get virtual stick working (in target app) on windows 10(windows 8 also has this?) I had to fix a registry setting that caused problems due to enhanced power management issue for the joystick. killer 3686 hi. The menu on the right hand side is the Elite Dangerous key binding from within the games options menu. It was superimposed on to the video for reference.
killer 3686 let's get some basic trouble shooting out the way. 1st check the joystick is picked up by Windows. Look for USB game controller in Windows control panel. Make sure you can see the T16000m in the list. If you can double click it and make sure the button and axis are ll picked up. You should see them moving and lighting up on screen. If you can't see the joystick at all you can try moving it into a different USB port. Also if you have other game controllers connected they could interfere so unplug those first.
( slowly...)
came for the tutorial. stayed for the clip at the end
a couple of minutes into your vid and you have my full attention. your vid is direct, to the point and meaningful. thanks for keepin it real.
Thank you for taking the time to compile this video. I would have been lost without it.
TARGET is picking up the thrust but not the flight stick
That's an extremely useful combat maneuver you did at the start.Idk why you said it's useless....Even without the level of precision to exit a station (which is just basically showing off)
You're absolutely right! No idea why I said that it's the whole point! ;)
Thank you, as someone new to flight / space games and all of the tech this was tremendously helpful.
I picked up two of these earlier today for both SC and ED. I'll be happy if I can just fly a straight line without constantly rolling due to the mouse moving around my screen. Can't wait.
Thanks for the video I just got the ecosystem from thrustmaster and help me out a lot to understand thank you my friend
Well done!
Thanks a lot for this video! This is exactly the info I was looking for as I just got my T16K FCS and I had no clue how to configure it.
Thank goodness ED was smart enough with this dual controller setup. Didn't need to use T.A.R.G.E.T. at all for Elite.
Tm16000m Hotas works perfect in Elite without the extra unnecessary software.
As long as you're not using fixed weapons or much FA Off. I find myself fighting the yo-yo of over steer when trying to aim fixed weapons. That's where the curve adjust in TARGET comes into play. Fly safe commanders o7.
I wish you could show how to get the profile working in game. I can't seem to get it working.
Wow thank you so much, had no idea about setting curves.
This has made precise aiming so much better ^-^
Ultra helpful and its 2020!
No, it's nearly October 2021!
Just got this stick and throttle today, unfortunately I can't use it till Monday but mega useful. I note you're only handling analogues on this, does elite have its own profile for the digital switches and triggers?
@@DobbsyLondon been a year already wow... my T16000m didnt last a year lol, the joystick lost center and i changed it for an X56
Great video. Many thanks. It's helped me a lot and no doubt everyone who has watched it.
What a great video, liked and subbed thanks to it! Awesomely made man from all the information and demonstration to the nice feels and skill show off at the end :)
Great video, thank you,
I am having problems getting the custom bindings to show up in game. I made a profile and run the profile with no errors but I can not find the bindings inside the game
Did you find a solution to this because I am having the same issue.
Awesome mate, this will really help new players.
get to sleep at night!
Thank you Sir! Can't wait to play with my first Hotas flight controls!
Amazing explanation!!! GOD SENT!!! thumbs up!!!
i just the thrustmaster custom bindings into the elite dangerous bindings folder and all was good
Thank you for this amazing tutorial.
Thanks for the tutorial, very detailed.
Nice tuts. finally i got it to work as combined driver in ED. this i think happend because i switched the flightsticks to different usb ports, so they appear in the config controller app as the first ones and not my Razer Chroma keypad as first device, that created alot of weird behaviour. also figured out how to keep you customized binding without overwriting them.
Is sad, because I really could use those curves...
thanks buddy, very informative, time to try it.
Superb video. Thank you!
Good luck!
Would help if the Thrustmaster site was up!
This helped me so much, cheers mate
MetalPigeon no problem glad it helped. 😉
Excellent! Thank you!
You're a legend. Top man.
Same, not sure is changes in windows 10 with 1909. I have latest drivers & firmware, also Inew to this even with year playing with hardware. The target software hangs creating the files for me. Even tried 1903 build and on another laptop with t.16000m fcs on it own and also with throttle.
real good and usefull guide to the Hardware....
I set up a custom bindings as you illustrated but, when the profile is running, my Hotas does not show up on Control
The darn thing disabled my thruster side switches. I couldn't get even get the game controller settings to detect them as long as the profile was running. I'm sorry but TARGET is terrible.
Excellent tutorial, thanks
What can I do to make my ship go to zero? This is ridiculous. Using 16000 hotas. If I restart the game it works until I jump or dock, then it's back to 30 with throttle back all the way.
And WTF is "forward only throttle reverse " supposed to mean? That makes no sense.
@@nickcosentino5368 you use a button to toggle the throttle between foward and reverse. This is the default profile for the 16000m Hotas.
Brilliant thank you so much
I just got elite dangerous to
Why is my 16000m stuck on left handed??? Please help I can’t change it back to the right side and yes I flicked the switch underneath.
It shows up in VR, but not when I'm just playing the game as is and it's like I have to go through and program every single button!
wonderful guide

Error: (internal) cannot associate a filter with the selected USB HID device "VID_044F&PID_B10B"
When I move the joystick, the + sign doesn't do anything.
Hi. Sorry for late response. The right hand hat is bound to keyboard cursors for pip management.
Hi man. How can I slew the "butterfly" in ftont of the throttle to make her works as a Zoom?
Good luck.
Thanks so much!
Hi, I'm having a issue with my T16000 stick, the rudder control keeps drifting to the left, will these dead zones fix it?
No it might improve it but it won't last. Most likely a dirty potentiometer. You can clean it with switch lube but you need to take it apart. Quite a common problem.
@@iammrfud no problem thank you for getting back to me :)

When you go to Thrustmaster's site you to to "Downloads" then pick your device. The download is the last one listed under "Software." The first one is the manual for said software.
Hope this helps.

I kinda feel like an idiot. I found it at the bottom of the software section under all the PDFs. Still think the site could be laid out better though :P

You would need to setup key repeat to have it held down and 'scroll' but its easy enough to just tap through the menu.
so nobody can tell me how to set this up.. how to get elite dangerous in the target
@@iammrfud you just did it again.... that is the whole point of my frustration... "just bind the keys and actions.... HOW?
Just to give an example... i create a profile... link the profile to freespace... load the game through the target software... and.... nothing
Are you saying there's a different type of thruster than the main forward/reverse that's only engaged when not in supercruise, or are you saying the buttons won't adjust your supercruise throttle position?
strafe left, strafe up, Strafe down, yaw left and Yaw right only work in standard flight mode. You can not perform these movements in super-cruise.
Well explained and nicely edited. Out of curiosity, with the twin stick, what do you use for main throttle?
Ozram Blue when in supercruise I use the slider throttle on the base.
Scarob makes sense. Cheers.
I hope it makes sense.
emaPug yes you need to rebind using the new virtual controller found in Elite options.
Maybe start with hotas and find a deal on a secondary T16000m later on?
so when finished do leave press run config. then minimise?
Gee it might help explaining how to play the game with these configurations. It should automatically save to "custom" or be able to be accessed in some way by the game. Time for more Googling.
awesome guide, will do it on mine
Any luck?
In my case TARGET software is useless...
Cannot make it work on Elite Dangerous by any means
@@RolandK turns out that there is already a t16000m preset in-game so it does not require software to play elite

No idea how on earth I did it last time, no profile seems to work now.
Thanks mate ... diamond!
Why use this instead of in-game settings? For example in Rise of Flight I can edit response curves in-game, is there any point in editing in T.A.R.G.E.T software then?
SplinterOscar some games don't offer this level of adjustment. Those that do are quite limited. Personally I find I don't need to tune the stick when playing flight sims.
thx for the video. Im having a problem of POV not working after setting up the profiles, do you know why?

too bad the second you go virtual ED will no longer see your sticks or binds at all now.

My joy button on T16000M are inverted, the map joy5 joy6 and joy7 is joy11 joy12 and joy13. I can remap with this program?
If you look on windows controller options, you can see the setup seems to be the reverse (left/right) of the option selected under the joystick on the switch, try to change this switch setting
@@Cortez77fr exac, thx dude
(Also a great tool for VR)
You'll need to backup bindings first.

I haven't played for a while now so some of this info maybe out of date.
You need to run Target before you load the game so that it will see the virtual device.
Cheers,
The Joker.
"programming them to your USB commands:
For those of us unfamiliar, Can you explain what a USB Command is?
Thank you.
Brilliant video, thank you. Where do I get the T.A.R.G.E.T. Software from?
Mike Hill thanks for watching. Link to software support.thrustmaster.com/en/product/t16000m-en/
Every time I run the config to test the play in my joystick. All I end up with is the virtual software and then my joystick stops responding. @scarob any help? I am not sure why this is happening. It worked great the first time, but the second time.. it just stops responding. The light even on my joystick stops when running the config.
iHamartia Im not sure about this but it may have something to do with Windows power management. Try setting power management to maximum performance.
Scarob I had to reinstall everything again to get it to work. Thank you for the reply!
Sorry, what exactly did you reinstall ? target software, Windows itself?? It seems I m having the same problem with both my T16000M
lum Saïs I uninstalled the software and drivers. Then installed drivers first then software back. It worked after that.
thanks a million
I found to get virtual stick working (in target app) on windows 10(windows 8 also has this?) I had to fix a registry setting that caused problems due to enhanced power management issue for the joystick. (when virtual stick is enabled normal stick USB is hidden and the way win 10 does power management caused it to be powered off, and virtual stick that gets created doesn't get any input from the now powered down t1600m real stick)

this is mentioned in this article forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/33932-Guide-Getting-the-most-of-your-Thrustmaster-Joystick-HOTAS-with-TARGET-Software
and a power cycle also . I followed that article. Not sure if target can be patched to deal with so this is not so this workaround is required.
Anyone know a contact number for Thrustmaster in the UK? I find their site impossible to use and they do not provide any contact details.

Wooooww
how do I get to that menu?
killer 3686 hi. The menu on the right hand side is the Elite Dangerous key binding from within the games options menu. It was superimposed on to the video for reference.
Scarob thx man, I’m having trouble with the joystick, it won’t connect for any game. Please help
killer 3686 let's get some basic trouble shooting out the way.
Scarob so I see it and everything. When I use it in game with and without target it just flat out won’t work(the base lights up). What do?
Scarob I see when you press pause and go into the controls menu in game it says “thrustmaster 16000” mine does not say that. How do I do that?
Thumbs up from me
The funny thing is, m+k players claim you can't pull those kinds of precise manoeuvers with a HOTAS or stick...shows what they know lol
You sound like Obsidian ant
I need help when I try to download the TARGET software I get "thrustmaster winsysdir/tmclass.dll incorrect location" error
