I just love them. My dad used to whistle “Winding Stream” and I never knew what the song was called. He was born in 1928 and died in 1998. I was in my early 20s and when I heard that song I sobbed. Sweet Fern, The Cannon-Ball, and Single Girl, Married Girl are my favorites
Thats "The Carter Scratch" ... there is a great documentary on her guitar and "Scratch" on youtube just search Carter scratch documentary.... some amazing footage of all the sisters
This my music. I play guitar in Maybelle's style on my guitar with the f-cut soundholes just like her. I've memorized many of these songs. I love to sit on my front porch and sing these songs. I sing Hank Williams, Carl Story, Roy Acuff and many more. These people and their songs are next to my heart. Carters were great folks, in my book, among the afore mentioned people, and I shall always sing and play their heartfelt songs & music. 👍😊
I appreciate the thumbs up! God, you folks (might) know how deep this music is in my heart. I weep alot over these people and their songs, their music. I've learned over 200 songs by heart. And I keep learning more. And on some quiet evening on the front porch, with a cold beer, I love to sing and play. My house sits back off the road, so I guess I don't hafta worry about getting rotten food thrown at me. My neighbors DO like it, if not love, my songs, I guess. Compliments are always positive. Good night.
Larry Paden Me as well! I always love to do a little “bassin’in” and take APs part when I sing Carter Family songs. His bass really completes their songs to me.
Jennifer Auld The Autoharp Sara played here is called the Guitaro. It was made during the folk revival and was an Autoharp meant to be held like a guitar. I have one myself and it’s extremely fun to play
The manufacturers of auto harps redesigned the instrument because Maybelle would play it upside down because she thought it sounded better that way and was easier to play that way.
I remember my mother signing this song. Every time she sang I cried, not sure why.
I wish I was sitting in their presence back then ❤
a lot of millionaires in music owe a lot to these two old ladies.
Beyond legendary
Let's just refer to them as 'talented' vs. 'old'. 👍

Sometimes we get a glimpse of heaven here on earth. Sara and Maybelle were angels sent here to help us feel nothing but joy and warmth.
Doesn't get anymore
"legendary" than these two.
OG
Priceless. Singing truth.
I love how Maybelle plays the guitar

OK. Great and dandy! I really don't give a sweet shit what anybody thinks!
Sounds good Donna. Playing their songs keeps their memory alive. Play away! 👏👍

Wow! Legends leaping from scratchy records to film - thanks for sharing
I just can't help but "bass in" everytime I hear this one. I think I've spent too many years studying A.P!

@@colinhaines9369 As far as I'm concerned, you can't do much of their work without the bass end!

I’ve never seen a auto harp with both ends having strings.

Colin Haines Wow! I bet that is fun! 😀
The manufacturers of auto harps redesigned the instrument because Maybelle would play it upside down because she thought it sounded better that way and was easier to play that way.
Gosto muito
