What a pity that ladies rely on men when it comes to repairs and breakdown. Society ought to bring the girls along, so they will be less helpless. It's our fault, because we insist on doing everything for the girls. Girls have the brainpower; let's give them a chance to use their brains and show us that they CAN cope with repairs and breakdowns. My wife could do everything I could do and, sometimes, comprehend a system better, and show her hubby (me) what was going on. Jeeez, she was good.

Additionally, the silicone spray helps tremendously to keep your windows from freezing to the runners in the winter. Don't just spray it on the side runners as Scotty demonstrates, but along the top and bottom as well. Anywhere the glass makes contact where water seeping between the runner and the glass can freeze.

Pro Tip, when you use the auto down, after the window has completely rolled down, quickly flip the switch up and let go. The reason for this is after the window has completely rolled down, it can take quite a few seconds for the switch to auto-cut power off from the motor. This will really save you a headache and a ton of driver side window motors. Cheers

That silicone helps prevent from getting your car doors being stuck & frozen shut. During winters, right before it get freezing cold, I spray our car doors rubber weatherstripping with film or coat of this, and prevents them from being frozen stuck. The regular WD40 helps as well, since used to use that. And helps prevent from dry-rot.

    • @mikeexits
      @mikeexits ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hemodynamics is really interesting, honestly a word I never thought of or heard, but the concept itself is something I'm familiar with. We basically have a red river (well, red to our eyes whenever some of it unfortunately escapes the body) circulating through and around our insides and keeping the system of the human body running smoothly. It's like a courier or public transit in some ways too, delivering nutrients and disease-fighting organic compounds wherever they're needed, and removing toxins from the body. I used to get squeamish thinking and talking about this stuff (still do if it's about serious injuries or bodily malfunctions), but I find it very fascinating overall. It's good to know how your meat suit works!

An hour later I found yellow-jacket wasps swarming all over the radiator. They were picking it clean of bugs that the hose had gotten wet but not washed off. After a few hours the yellow-jackets had completed their work. The radiator was whistle clean! Talk about a complete job!

Ya know, it took me nearly two weeks to figure out Toyota's Auto-Up and Auto-Down in my 4Runner? Especially since my Camry only has Auto-Down. If you only push the button partway, you retain manual control. I probably should have read the owner's manual, but who reads the manual? LOL
Now that I figured it out, it's a feature I wonder how I lived without!
If your headlights flicker like a discotheque whenever you hit the button, then you're a proud owner of a Chrysler/Dodge minivan, and no, it's not your battery, alternator, or the windows.
If your car has two electric radiator fans, and only one works, your cooling system can probably handle that (except in extreme circumstances). You will, however, notice reduced A/C cooling ability because the fans also draw air through the condenser.
Battery corrosion can be easily cleaned up with a slurry of baking soda and vinegar. Sure, it foams up (it's the ingredients for a child's papier-mâché volcano, after all) but it neutralizes the acid and dissolves the fuzzy crystals in seconds.
The only time I've ever flushed brake fluid is after a line failure, I'm a bit OCD so every time I replace a line, I bleed the system at all four corners.
When I buy a car that hasn't been recently serviced, the first things I do are: oil change, tune up, throttle body cleaning, and throttle cable adjustment. You'd be amazed how many times I've bought a car the owner thought was either "a piece of crap" or "on its last leg" that just needed an afternoon of TLC.
"What's the lifetime of the transmission?" "Um, until the warranty runs out." Obviously not Toyota, I'm well-beyond the warranty in my Camry (at just shy of 339k miles) and never felt anything amiss in the transmission. As far as I can trace, it's only had a 100k service performed (by the dealer that sold the car to the original owner) when the fluid was changed.

2:46 Most automatic windows need to be reset after removing your car's battery (especially newer vehicles with lots of computers). The auto down sometimes works, but not the auto up. To reset it, roll down the window all the way and hold the switch in the down position (I know, Scottie says don't do that, but trust me - if you don't trust me, research it). Then, roll it all the way up and hold for 10 seconds. That's it! auto up and down should now work.

Chemist here. I used to do testing of oil blends in a well known oil manufacturer (know what I mean). What I learned in that job was the reason car manufacturers were able to increase the oil change mileage was because they made the oil sumps bigger. The thought process was, more oil means more additives to use up, the longer the vehicle can go between oil changes (it's the additives that do all the protection and get broken down through use, the base oil only gets dirty and can be recycled).
I also used to do the QA/QC for a company that repackaged coolant and brake fluid. Some of those coolants are exactly the same just with a different dye (eg. Castrol for Ford is the green version of the Ford blue version coolant. Likewise, super dot4 brake fluid can be blue, green or yellow/clear dependingon the brand. It's just the dye that changes the colour). With coolants, you do have to get one formulated for your type of car. With different rubber compounds, temperatures and metallurgy of the engines and radiators, using the wrong coolant will damage parts, like cause corrosion or scaling on the metal parts, cause the elastomers in the rubber to break down making the hoses brittle, or not prevent freezing or boiling enough (the coolant actually increases the boiling temperature as well as decrease the freezing temperature).
Make sure you use the right concentration of coolant too (usually 50%/50% or 1:1 coolant/demineralised water). It's stays liquid at the widest temperature range at that ratio. If it's too concentrated or too dilute, at low temperatures it turns to partially frozen slush (like a slushy drink) and at high temperatures it reduces the boiling point to the point where you can get cavitation occurring in the water pump due to steam bubbles forming in the low pressure s spots of the pump. Cavitation can act like a hammer and over time can deform the pump housing and impeller to the point where the pump no longer works or can leak.
There's my info dump on those topics. If you've got any questions, feel free to reply.

Good points have been stated in this video. Job well done! However, in my opinion the brake fluid should be replaced every 2 years or 50,000 km (30,000 miles approx.). And yet the power steering fluid should be replaced very 100,000 km (62,000 miles approx.). I have always been doing these and never had any maintenance issues.

Scotty, I had a 1974 buick with 455 engine bought it new put it in the junk yard in 2014. It has never been in a shop. I took care of it myself oil change, transmission fluid and filter. I'm saving the engine and transmission that has never been open.
