Wow Scotty I feel like like I just finished the old guys advanced rapid review course. A load of great information. You're still the best! Amazing how gracious you always are. One could pay some bucks at a JC or Tech school for the knowledge you freely pass on to others. Thank you.

You are a life saver. I am now driving my daughters Toyota Tundra truck, 2008. Needs some TLC and since I’m retired, I could do some myself. Maybe. I’m 71, female and wished I could take a mechanic course 101. I just feel like I did after listening to you. OMG, your great. I’m in Texas too.
My 1992 Cevy Silverado is 30 years old looks and run great. I change the oil once a year because I don't put that many miles on it. And it don't leak a drop of oil...
Wow! Your video is a wealth of knowledge. As a single woman who is not car savvy I think you’re a godsend. As a nurse, it’s fascinating how the mechanics of a car can be analogized to the hemodynamics of the human body. I watch you most evenings and learn something each time. Thank you!!!
As both a retired RN & a car chick, I've explained health information to car guys by understanding how both work. Works to explain how internal combustion works to medical, non-car folks too!
Hemodynamics is really interesting, honestly a word I never thought of or heard, but the concept itself is something I'm familiar with. We basically have a red river (well, red to our eyes whenever some of it unfortunately escapes the body) circulating through and around our insides and keeping the system of the human body running smoothly. It's like a courier or public transit in some ways too, delivering nutrients and disease-fighting organic compounds wherever they're needed, and removing toxins from the body. I used to get squeamish thinking and talking about this stuff (still do if it's about serious injuries or bodily malfunctions), but I find it very fascinating overall. It's good to know how your meat suit works!
That silicone helps prevent from getting your car doors being stuck & frozen shut. During winters, right before it get freezing cold, I spray our car doors rubber weatherstripping with film or coat of this, and prevents them from being frozen stuck. The regular WD40 helps as well, since used to use that. And helps prevent from dry-rot.
Thank Scotty, I did exactly what you said for my car window. I've had this car for a year and my back window wouldn't go down! Slammed the door once while holding main switch down and down it went! Lol. You are great!
I don't know much about cars, but I come from a family of mechanics but noone has been as engaging as you talking about this stuff, I drive a mix of cars as my dad has a lot of cars older than me that I drive and my own car is a new EV and the first automatic I own. I really enjoy these videos!
The silicon treatment works great to keep the windows from freezing closed in the winter. Also on the door gaskets. Spray on a towel or cloth and wipe the gasket. No more door frozen closed.
I’ve always preferred a thin coat of Vaseline on battery terminals. Yes as it heat up the film will get thinner but the stuff is cheap and a good glob will last quite a while. Does a great job keeping the battery acid and gunk off the terminals and exposed electrical metals
Here is an interesting tip. I hosed off my radiator on a humid day in early September after a number of trips had accumulated bugs on my radiator. Only some of the sticky bugs washed off. An hour later I found yellow-jacket wasps swarming all over the radiator. They were picking it clean of bugs that the hose had gotten wet but not washed off. After a few hours the yellow-jackets had completed their work. The radiator was whistle clean! Talk about a complete job!
1:27 Anyone else notice how WD-40 displaces moisture and the silicone is water resistant but the can is all rusted, hehe. Another great video Scotty. Thanks for all you do.
Hey Scotty great job I don't have to tell you how many people don't do this stuff even when they're some what mechanically inclined. Some people just don't learn which keeps mechanics like you in business.
Ya know, it took me nearly two weeks to figure out Toyota's Auto-Up and Auto-Down in my 4Runner? Especially since my Camry only has Auto-Down. If you only push the button partway, you retain manual control. I probably should have read the owner's manual, but who reads the manual? LOL Now that I figured it out, it's a feature I wonder how I lived without! If your headlights flicker like a discotheque whenever you hit the button, then you're a proud owner of a Chrysler/Dodge minivan, and no, it's not your battery, alternator, or the windows. If your car has two electric radiator fans, and only one works, your cooling system can probably handle that (except in extreme circumstances). You will, however, notice reduced A/C cooling ability because the fans also draw air through the condenser. Battery corrosion can be easily cleaned up with a slurry of baking soda and vinegar. Sure, it foams up (it's the ingredients for a child's papier-mâché volcano, after all) but it neutralizes the acid and dissolves the fuzzy crystals in seconds. The only time I've ever flushed brake fluid is after a line failure, I'm a bit OCD so every time I replace a line, I bleed the system at all four corners. When I buy a car that hasn't been recently serviced, the first things I do are: oil change, tune up, throttle body cleaning, and throttle cable adjustment. You'd be amazed how many times I've bought a car the owner thought was either "a piece of crap" or "on its last leg" that just needed an afternoon of TLC. "What's the lifetime of the transmission?" "Um, until the warranty runs out." Obviously not Toyota, I'm well-beyond the warranty in my Camry (at just shy of 339k miles) and never felt anything amiss in the transmission. As far as I can trace, it's only had a 100k service performed (by the dealer that sold the car to the original owner) when the fluid was changed.
Thank you Scotty. I had a 2007 Chrysler 300 and now a 2005 300 that have both shown brake issues. I never thought or knew that I could flush the system. I'm gonna get that done tomorrow.
I've been getting recall notices in the mail for a power window problem for my 14 chevy express. not taking it in a chevy dealer bc I dont want them sabotaging my van.
Recalls do expire. Had a fuel pressure control module die on my 09 Silverado. They had a recall on them a couple of years ago but they stopped the recall, so the module was not covered. Cost me about$700 dollars to get it done.
Another thing I would recommend with the tires is to check the dot date it's the last 4 numbers in the box or oval after the letters dot the main numbers to worry about are the last 2 that tell you the year the were manufactured if they're older than six years I would recommend replacing them if your tires are older than 10 years they start decomposing and at that point they're dangerous to drive on
I love your videos. I'm a mechanic, now proffesionally and not just in my garage, and yiur videos are always incredibly helpful advice and tips and tricks when I have to do diagnostics or explain things to people. The battery one is one I actually new about prior, and it's why I always roll one window down all the way, and the other half way. Once the first is half I do the other note whether or not I heard a difference in power between the two, and then the first thing I do is check the battery. But hearing it from you rest assures me I've been doing the right thing all along
I've only had to replace a broken manual window crank assembly once, but plenty of those electric power window regulators and switch assemblies = "pain in the butt"
I agree with 90% of what Scotty says definitely one of the most well informed tech on TH-cam but never push your throttle plate by finger on an electronic throttle body turn on the key and have a buddy or a brick hold the throttle pedal down!
I hate elec windows. I prefer old style, roll up! Our problem Scotty is we need a new motor & that means the whole set up. Too expensive. If we use the window we're afraid the track will let the window drop & goodbye window. Thanks Scotty! Your the best!
2:46 Most automatic windows need to be reset after removing your car's battery (especially newer vehicles with lots of computers). The auto down sometimes works, but not the auto up. To reset it, roll down the window all the way and hold the switch in the down position (I know, Scottie says don't do that, but trust me - if you don't trust me, research it). Then, roll it all the way up and hold for 10 seconds. That's it! auto up and down should now work.
Good points have been stated in this video. Job well done! However, in my opinion the brake fluid should be replaced every 2 years or 50,000 km (30,000 miles approx.). And yet the power steering fluid should be replaced very 100,000 km (62,000 miles approx.). I have always been doing these and never had any maintenance issues.
Scotty, you're awesome because you're old school and half of what you say is so awesome. And the other half you say save so much money. I love all your tips. Love watching you. I'm a mechanic from old school. My dad taught me stuff in the 70s and the 80s. And I worked at the corner gas station and all this stuff makes so much sense. I hope a lot of people take your advice. Changing your oil is cheap changing of motors expensive
Thanks Scotty! Going to try this on my car and check the alternator because my driverside window will slowly go down or sometimes it'll stop and I have to push it down to help it
I did this once on my window and it worked. It worked so good that when the window was going up, it kept going and never stopped. Til this day my window never came back down from the heavens.😀
And, while you’re there with silicone spray in hand, squirt some into the door locks. They’ll work better in any weather, and especially in freezing weather! Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
I don't appreciate Scotty calling people stupid and you all made him and put money in his pocket I don't subscribe to any of them I just watch the video that I like.
Scotty, I had a 1974 buick with 455 engine bought it new put it in the junk yard in 2014. It has never been in a shop. I took care of it myself oil change, transmission fluid and filter. I'm saving the engine and transmission that has never been open.
This was really helpful. I had my car with automatic windows for three years, but I didn't know this. My old car that I had for 15 years didn't have automatic windows. Thank you 😊
I have stumbled on to some of these over the years. Had an '86 Jetta that was running hot. Discovered the fan was not running. then found all the connections up there to be corroded. It was in the battery area, of course. Then the wiring was odd and came to the conclusion there had been undisclosed damage (and repair). Thanks for the tips!
Power steering fluid: locate the LOW-PRESSURE Return line, cut it &insert a fuel-filter (I use clear glass reusable filters, you can use whatever kind you want; the transparent.kind let you see if the fluid is getting dirty); ALWAYS put the filter in the low-pressure side, as the Hi-pressure side DOES run at 1,500 psi & usually breaks as soon as the pressure is at it's normal level)... Why do I put a filter in the low-pressure side? Because once the filter is in place, I never need to change I again (& I like to be able to see how clean it stays). A few bucks spent once is a lot less than replacing it repeatedly. Just my preference.
Hey my wife’s car the lights would dim when using windows at night. Brought it in needed battery. I told the mechanic that it was the windows. He said I know it needed a battery. No more dimming. Its a independent shop . My son was looking at used cars I told him to bring it there and have them look at it. They told him not tho buy first two cars he brought there. Third car was good.He thinks I’m pretty smart but I just listen to Scotty. Thanks again !!!
Ford never produced a Model A in 1926. First Model A Ford was produced in Oct. 1927.. it was introduced to the public in Dec. 1927. So, not likely Scotty would make a statement about an imaginary1926 Model A.

This man is sweating away, sharing his depth of practical knowledge on things us idiots pay lots of hard earned money to fix. GIVE THE MAN A THUMBS UP!! He deserves it! I’m sharing this with my oldest son. My middle son, my daughters fiancé.
Hi Scotty, I'm a big fan. Please don't change and keep up the good work! I have a question for you. What is your opinion about Castrol Long Life oil VW uses these days in their cars? I change it every 20-25 thousand kilometers on my 2018 Skoda Octavia 1.8T. (what do you think about newer Skoda vehicles in general?)
I use 93 octane in my 4.7 HO V8. Almost 20 year old Jeep WJ still runs like a champ! I've always use Valvoline in the high mileage red jug and my valve train looks squeaky clean.
Hello from Toronto Scotty:) luv ur videos and all the great advice. I never knew about silicone for windows. My windows seemed to work fine but after putting on silicone they definitely run smoother and quieter. Cleans all the dirt and crap that builds up in the window channels and you really notice it.
I'm happy to see someone else's car also runs on 26 year old factory brake fluid. My 1996 VW Golf Mk1 has never been bled or topped up, still stops on a dime. Sweet.

Wow Scotty I feel like like I just finished the old guys advanced rapid review course. A load of great information. You're still the best! Amazing how gracious you always are. One could pay some bucks at a JC or Tech school for the knowledge you freely pass on to others.
Thank you.
Yes he’s been my savior!!!!😊❤
We called manual windows Armstrong windows when I was a New/Used car salesman over 28 years ago! 🤣 I love watching your videos, I learn something and am entertained at the same time! Hopefully your page is monetized! You are a National treasure Scotty!
I love this guy! I'm not really into cars. But he makes me feel happy. 😊
Thank you Scotty, all these tricks and tips keep my 02' Rodeo running like I just bought it.
Everything people need to know about car maintenance and life preservation in this short video! Everyone with a car should watch this!
Thanks again Scotty! I do my own maintenance now thanks to your videos and this video was a perfect rundown of a ton of ways to maintain my vehicle.
Educated me without a sales pitch, enjoy his sense of humor.
Love your work Scotty...it’ll be a sad day when you retire. Thanks for all the great content :-)
So Dad was right all along "stop playing with the window you'll wear it out"
Laughing
And can hear my dad saying that
Thank you for the smiles
When I was a young boy I burned my dad's semi window motor😂😂😂😂😂😂
Stupid kid😒😂
Dads are always right
Imagine how I fill when the "ants in their pants" do it in my taxi......aaahhhhggg..... but I remind their mom to put them in their place.....
@@Bobo-ox7fj a lot of cars have a kill switch so that only the driver can control the windows
I've been doing it with some regularity since seeing Scotty do this. It does help older motors by reducing the resistance.
I’ve always preferred a thin coat of Vaseline on battery terminals. Yes as it heat up the film will get thinner but the stuff is cheap and a good glob will last quite a while. Does a great job keeping the battery acid and gunk off the terminals and exposed electrical metals
My father does this too. As a mechanic I would have to agree.👍
Im amazed how this guy can talk without a pause
He has so much information. It’s awesome
That's called "editing in post"!
WD=Water Displacing. 😱👍
Hey Scotty great job I don't have to tell you how many people don't do this stuff even when they're some what mechanically inclined. Some people just don't learn which keeps mechanics like you in business.
Always something to learn everyday. Thank you Scotty
Scotty, I have been watching your videos for about 10 years and it's been of great help! thanks a lot!
This guy is literally GEM of old school skilled craftsmen...❤
Ya know, it took me nearly two weeks to figure out Toyota's Auto-Up and Auto-Down in my 4Runner? Especially since my Camry only has Auto-Down. If you only push the button partway, you retain manual control. I probably should have read the owner's manual, but who reads the manual? LOL
Now that I figured it out, it's a feature I wonder how I lived without!
Scotty, thank you for everything you do. My 2002 Ford F 150 rides like new thanks to you and a wonderful local mechanic.
@@mcc7762 i would look into it. I read that they can expire after 10 years?
Recalls do expire. Had a fuel pressure control module die on my 09 Silverado. They had a recall on them a couple of years ago but they stopped the recall, so the module was not covered. Cost me about$700 dollars to get it done.
Another thing I would recommend with the tires is to check the dot date it's the last 4 numbers in the box or oval after the letters dot the main numbers to worry about are the last 2 that tell you the year the were manufactured if they're older than six years I would recommend replacing them if your tires are older than 10 years they start decomposing and at that point they're dangerous to drive on
Helpful thank you
Grown ups - hold your beer in your right hand if you're driving on a bumpy road. Keeps them window switches dry.

What a snail..
Manual cranks are better, no doubt. People are sheep. They will buy anything.
😣Damn drivers side window is auto both ways BUT sometimes likes to go try to go down when I press it up.
I'm 57 and I haven't owned a vehicle with power windows yet, nor do I plan to.
Good advice Scotty! Any machine needs maintenance, there’s no such thing as maintenance-free car 🚗⚙️🔧
I love Scotty. He is hilarious and a car genius.
I agree with 90% of what Scotty says definitely one of the most well informed tech on TH-cam but never push your throttle plate by finger on an electronic throttle body turn on the key and have a buddy or a brick hold the throttle pedal down!
Thanks Scotty for taking the time to go over all of these details.
I hate elec windows. I prefer old style, roll up! Our problem Scotty is we need a new motor & that means the whole set up. Too expensive. If we use the window we're afraid the track will let the window drop & goodbye window. Thanks Scotty! Your the best!
Suggestion for future video: if you're going to change oil and other fluids, what's the best way to dispose of the old fluids?
Find a good place that recycles the fluids. A local shop can recycle ♻ it or take it off your hands. 👐
Aren't auto parts stores, safe houses?
2:46 Most automatic windows need to be reset after removing your car's battery (especially newer vehicles with lots of computers). The auto down sometimes works, but not the auto up. To reset it, roll down the window all the way and hold the switch in the down position (I know, Scottie says don't do that, but trust me - if you don't trust me, research it). Then, roll it all the way up and hold for 10 seconds. That's it! auto up and down should now work.
Great info, thank you
Scotty you are a national treasure !!! thanks again for all your videos...the father many of us never had!
Another great video, thanks for the reminders 😀, we often forget.
God bless you Scotty and family
Scotty, you're awesome because you're old school and half of what you say is so awesome. And the other half you say save so much money. I love all your tips. Love watching you. I'm a mechanic from old school. My dad taught me stuff in the 70s and the 80s. And I worked at the corner gas station and all this stuff makes so much sense. I hope a lot of people take your advice. Changing your oil is cheap changing of motors expensive
That's dedication. Scotty working on cars in hurricane forced winds.😯
Thanks Scotty! Going to try this on my car and check the alternator because my driverside window will slowly go down or sometimes it'll stop and I have to push it down to help it
HOLY CRAP IT WORKED FOR MY 2004 Camry
04 camry is a great car. My O4 has over 500,000 KM's on it and is going strong.

Thats one FUGLY looking car (the whole generation), but nice and reliable tho.
I just bought a 2004 for my daughter with 210,000 miles and it looks and runs great.Hopefully it will last another 100000 miles!
I did this once on my window and it worked. It worked so good that when the window was going up, it kept going and never stopped. Til this day my window never came back down from the heavens.😀
May God continue to bless you Scotty, you’re the Man 🙏🏾
My Saturn and old Chevelle have manual crank windows. I have had power windows and some issues. I just as soon crank.
And, while you’re there with silicone spray in hand, squirt some into the door locks. They’ll work better in any weather, and especially in freezing weather!

Silicon I never knew this & I never want to be stupid again! will do this.
YES.THE SI IS SLIPPERY&DOESN'T ALLOW DIRT TO ADHERE....NOT TRUE W/STANDARD WD-40.
Regular WD-40 is only for metal, not rubber. It will damage the rubber. Always use silicone on rubber or plastic.

Thanks Scotty, for the video on windows, have a good evening.
thanks you too!
This was really helpful. I had my car with automatic windows for three years, but I didn't know this. My old car that I had for 15 years didn't have automatic windows. Thank you 😊
Thanks Scotty, good reminder ....a little routine maintenance makes for a happy vehicle.
Most newer Toyota’s have auto anti pinch so if a kids hand or arm gets caught the window stops to prevent injury.
When's the last time you checked the power window lubricant?
2000 and never!
Same as turning light liquid!
Rightcious question dude. Well alright!
Top up your Headlight fluid while you're at it.
I change the fluid on my power window motors at least once a year. 😉
If you have automatic down but not up, the none automatic up is an option for children’s fingers. Check your owners manual.
Scotty just disassembles his Cars for the hell of it LOL
I have stumbled on to some of these over the years. Had an '86 Jetta that was running hot. Discovered the fan was not running. then found all the connections up there to be corroded. It was in the battery area, of course. Then the wiring was odd and came to the conclusion there had been undisclosed damage (and repair). Thanks for the tips!
It would be awesome if it was possible to change from electrical windows to manual ones... That would be a killer DIY! =D
Really good effort, Scotty, just packed with information and entertaining too.
Scotty’s a genius.
Wish my car didn't have electric windows, but I use that silicone spray to help the motors last.
*If Scotty had a longer life-span:* _"My 1926 Ford Model A still works perfectly fine."_
it wouldn't surprise me to see a video of what to do for your 1926
Ford never produced a Model A in 1926. First Model A Ford was produced in Oct. 1927.. it was introduced to the public in Dec. 1927. So, not likely Scotty would make a statement about an imaginary1926 Model A.
😆
That heating and air conditioning is just another hula hoop (passing fad).

Sweet.
Scotty. I like your tutorials. Do one on keeping intake manifold and intake valves clean on a direct injective engine.
