@chriskompara1015 LOL, As a kid in the early 80's, I clearly remember our neighbors across the street that had a 67 or 68 Mustang changing the engine and they were using the huge branch of the tree in front of there house as the engine hoist. 😅
My 2003 Toyota Yaris (Echo) has a battery management system that is very simple to reset. Just put the new battery in, turn the ignition key on without starting the car, and wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute. During that time the car computer will detect the new voltage battery and adjust accordingly.
I would NEVER buy a BMW or any other Eurotrash automobile. I've known people who have owned them, including myself, and had nothing but problems with HUGE repair costs. I've worked as a truck & bus mechanic for many decades and still learn things about the automotive industry IDK from Scotty. Thank you, sir, for always informative and entertaining videos!
How interesting, that car makers don’t want people to work on their cars by putting all this technology under the hood, I have learned a great deal from yr videos, many thanks!
I've always known to put the negative on a ground, not the negative terminal. I thought it was to give the (bad) battery less stress during the jump, but that sensor thing is another good reason.
Alot of us are mechanics and good DIYers because of him! Thanks for giving me that confidence for the past 15 years!! You're like a father figure to us lol
One advantage of the manual transmission is, you can change the gear oil, even if it has been delayed for a long time. But not for the automatic which is so flimsy.
Great info! I recently found that new electronic battery chargers won't sense a completely dead battery and will tell you it is bad. I replaced a battery over this, only to find later that all I had to do was introduce a 12v current to the circuit in parallel, and the old "dead" battery charged to full level.
I have an auto glass company in jacksonville florida. As far as the door glass with tempered vs laminated glass you can also look at the little stamp on the bottom edge of the glass called the BUG and it will tell you if it tempered or laminated or if it doesn't say it's tempered or if it says acoustic innerlayer then it's laminated . It cuts down on road noise mainly what they use laminated door glass for now .
Many thanks for the info / heads-up, greatly appreciated. I remember an old saying, " To make an error is human but it takes a computer to really screw things up" !!
2021 Nissan Titan my amp gauge was non stop all over the place and battery constantly dead/dying. Unplugged the negative cable sensor and now the gauge is rock solid and haven't had another battery issue since. Truck runs fine, no change in power or gas mileage and been unplugged for almost 2 years.
Yep, I had my oil changed at Pep Boys and they double gasketed the filter while I was on vacay in Florida. Next day I’m in Mississippi and my oil light warning alarm is screaming. Luckily a Kia dealership was just down the road and they were the ones who informed me of the double-gasket. No more Pep Boys for me.
@@glockguy55 I bet you don’t do that anymore. One time I did an oil change and forgot to put the drain plug back in before I poured in the new oil! Now I make sure by using a torque wrench on it. 🤨
Talking about the side windows, a lot of people tint their side windows which makes them act like laminated glass. they will break but stay in place because of the tint!
2014 Ford Escape. I go thru a battery every 3 years. The old cars battery lasted 6-7 years. Earlier this year I installed a battery cutoff switch. Every time I shut the car off I disconnect the battery. Working good so far. When this Escape dies I'm going back to a 1980's vehicle that sits in my pole barn. I'm sick and tired of the problems and factory recalls on these newer vehicles. Eventually, I'll own nothing but vehicles 1995 and earlier.

Your two cents worth of insight, just may have saved a few others beside myself, a whole lot more than that!! I have a battery booster that kills my battery if I leave it charging overnight (The battery has become weak, as of late), so now I only plug it in while my truck is running. That being said, I've had the odd morning where I've found my truck battery drained just low enough, so that it won't kick over the engine, and yet, I've never once thought it could be due to my spare phone being left charging overnight!! Thank you for your input!
I did the double gasket on oil filter once. Never again after that. The engine was fine as it was shut off once the leak started but it did have me make sure they are not double gasketed again.
I feel removing the negative terminal on a in place operating battery First is the safest, isolating the whole battery from the unit it serves and the Last connection to be made before the Unit operates. Great show Scotty 🍻

I'm a former Cat mech. During that time (in the 1970s), I saw three occasions where batteries blew up due to improper jumper hook-ups. At a battery shop once, I watched a tech replace the arc-gapped terminals on a battery. The first thing he did was remove all the caps and then use a small torch in each cell. There was always a small "pop" as the hydrogen ignited. Above the work area, all the paint was peeling off the ceiling.
A battery repair?? I know they USED to be serviceable, way, waaay back in the day, but I never would have dreamed that they'd be serviceable in any capacity, to be honest! I'm sure the tech was working on a commercial type of battery, but even so, that still sounds bizarre, given that probably 98 to 99% of batteries that the average person ever crosses paths with, will have all kinds of warning labels telling them that they are in fact 'sealed and unserviceable',,,
I've jump-started mini vehicles and I knew and old and never had problems. I finally ground somewhere on the vehicle. It would be just fine. No problems with anything
Good info thank you. However you suggest using a keep alive cable on the OBD connector to avoid losing memory but when doing electrical work remove the ground off the battery but wouldn't the keep alive supply cause problems if you short something? Or are you really saying if doing electrical work on the car you should expect to lose memory and no use a keep alive cable
Sir,I have a question regarding driving an automatic transmission car on a 30-kilometer range uphill or downhill route. What is the best driving method to use? Should I use the OD (Overdrive) OFF function to assist with engine braking, or should I use gear 2, 1, or L for the entire 30 kilometers instead of using OD OFF to prevent damage to the transmission? Your answer and explanation would be greatly appreciated.
I've always enjoyed informative videos, however I'm concerned that the overhead of your garage doorway might collapse on you. Please have it replaced. I wouldn't want to read that you have been injured. 😢
I pulled up to a gas station on base in the 90s. A guy was checking everything under his hood. As I drove up, the battery blew up. I gave him a ride home so he could clean up and change clothes and use his other car to get to work.
I am wondering if this is problem with my Renault Clio mk 4.....wbhen daughter had this car she just bought a battery and got this guy to fit it.... So I don't know...... Battery often goes flat overnight.... have a smart charger for it.... Restores power in 20mins charging.... So I wonder if computer not set up for this battery.... Is good one is a Varta.....

Or are you really saying if doing electrical work on the car you should expect to lose memory and no use a keep alive cable
Scotty I watch your videos all the time please don't stop making videos
I don't have that problem with my Civic 10th gen. I had to jump start it one and it did just like my Golf 2 many years ago.
I just bought a new toyota. Thanks for this advise.
Worth its words in Gold !! Thanks so much for this ! 🙏🏼

RIP to the people who failed to do these 5 things. Maybe if you had listened to Scoot your car would've made it to 400,000 miles.
Ah! They wanted the new car smell.
@@Michael-yi4mc Ahh yes, new car smell. Devoid of other people's farts.
My Ford van has 480,000.
What were the 5 things?
Scotty, that was masterful. Thank you.
What year did they start putting the battery sensor on cars?😊
Speaking of changing spark plugs, is it important to use a torque wrench? Talking about a
Corolla here.
Nice way to incorporate new clips with a 20 year old clip. Nothing like aging right before your eyes. 😂. Cheers 🍻
I gave him a ride home so he could clean up and change clothes and use his other car to get to work.
great advice as normal, thanks!!!
