You can make that truck into an absolute animal!! Vitavon has everything you need, besides some shock tuning, to complete the truck!! Mine barely barrel rolls anymore. I’ve got it dialed in and I know how to drive it…
It's a scale truck and designed to be driven to scale. If one chooses to drive it beyond it's intended design then they have no right to complain. They just bought the wrong r/c. It's not rocket science.
AMEN. It seems a lot of people don't realize that everything isn't meant for bashing. And with that, you still have to "drive" certain so-called bashers. Find the right vehicle that fits your purpose and stop trying to smash the square block through the round hole.
My only gripe about the UDR over my years of ownership is with the ESC. Specifically, after it does a firmware update. When I first bought the truck I could power it on and off via the power button on the ESC. After a firmware update - which was required to use the bluetooth module - I could no longer power the ESC off with the power button. After some research I found this was intentional, to keep people from turning the ESC off and leaving the batteries plugged in. This is fine on something like an XMaxx or E-Revo or something, but on a UDR that's an enormous pain in the ass. If you drive it in any kind of dirt, the battery door will jam. It is nearly impossible to remove it without a flathead screwdriver. This means you now need a tool to remove your battery door. Which is on the bottom of the truck... So yes. That means to turn the truck off, you have to turn a 15 pound truck over, use a tool to remove the battery door and then disconnect the batteries. That actually makes it a pain to drive. It's annoying beyond words and that alone means I drive this truck a lot less than I would otherwise.
Good read.... So if i don't perform FW update it will perform as normal? I just got mine.. I'll assume that i'm already on the latest troublesome FW version.
Got my UDR, and after 5 minutes of driving it, my ESC stopped working. Sent it back to Traxxas for Warranty. I also noticed missing screws on the lower control arms right out of the box.
Sorry to hear that Traxxas electronics are not my favorite they seem to be super sensitive and underpowered just my personal opinion. Hopefully you enjoy it after those issues are addressed
I broke mine! Two of the wheels came unglued. Have traxxas trailing arms on the way. Keep in mind upgrades for this vehicle are expensive. Very worth it if you like this style RC driving.
Seems like most Upgrades are expensive for any truck in this hobby. I'm not looking forwards to breaking it. Too bad they dont have an "ultimate" version which would come with all the goodies.
@ if you drive it within reason for the scale that it is you shouldn’t run into any huge problems. Just upgrading for fun will double the out the door cost in the blink of an eye. With reasonable driving you should be able to enjoy it on stock parts for a long time. Such a good truck. IMO it doesn’t get any better for scale desert trucks.
@@MisterFriendly99That's the reason purchased this truck. I almost by passed it by. i spent just a little over $3k in a month before i noticed it. I know think that this might get used more than the other trucks. I just need Bits for my drill. Any idea on which kit to get? I like MIP tools.
@@gewglesux I work as a machinist in the aerospace industry. My preferred drills are cobalt jobber length. I’m not sure what brand they are. I’ll get back to you if o see one.
I love the scale stuff but wish they had a 2wd version I feel like 4wd is just to easy and kinda takes the fun out of off road trucks. Just my opinion but it don't take much skill to drive these and I can keep up with 4wd with my 2wd on tracks just not as forgiving as the 4wd. I'd love to get one anyways though.
Why is it not good for jumping and bashing like a slash or other Traxxas platforms? Is it the solid axle geometry, or is it the extra weight making it more fragile? Or both?
The whole design of the truck is not built for bashing. It is built for baja style offroad racing where suspension is really important and it's built for scale detail. You can jump this truck off big jumps, but it will eventually break something, and they are not really fun to work on. But off medium-sized jumps out in the sand, this truck is just so nice to drive. But durability will factor in when really bashing on it.
It was designed to look real and in doing so totally sacrificed the drivability that you are used to when driving just about any rc, it's just waaaay too front heavy and it's fragile and expensive to fix. My buddy brought his to the track, ran it once and put in on FB marketplace.
@@JohnS-jy3nv If you set one up so the battery went above the rear axle/near where the spares usually go, do you think it would drive better? It'd certainly be less front-heavy, though of course, more top-heavy. Though, they could also do a V drive with the motor in that location and mount the battery sideways where the motor used to go. Or if they wanted solid axle geometry with better packaging, they could do a de-dion axle with a parallel 4-link and a watt's link, as that would allow a traditional motor placement and whatnot.
I have a super baja rey. It's fun. Think the rock reys are discontinued. This truck is fun, but if money is no object, the super baja rey is a whole different experience. The size of it along with 8s, is just so crazy.
I just brought mine home lastnight.. I happen to love mine... so far... ain't driven it yet. Glad i got this color combo instead of the Blue .

A bmx doesn't handle like a skateboard so don't complain about it... Why does this need to be said? (it doesn't)

Are these open rear diff or locked? It's a trophy truck, the only one better is that Losi behind you in the larger scale. Axial did it first though :p
