Differential kit, center (complete) (aluminum carrier) Replace your Traxxas vehicle’s stock slipper clutch with this Pro-Built high-performance center differential. The center differential absorbs driveline shocks to improve durability and distributes power to all four wheels for mind-bending acceleration. The finned aluminum housing helps dissipate heat with a tough 54-tooth, 32-pitch steel spur gear for maximum durability. The sealed differential comes completely assembled and pre-loaded with thick 1 million weight silicone oil to help prevent unloading and ballooning of the front tires. Center differential requires 32-pitch pinion gear. Looks like you can get rid of the slipper clutch too!
The Maverick Quantum RX costs £224...keep that in mind.! 😉 😉 It's also got a Hobbywing max 10, 120 amp, 4S ESC, a 3674, 2200kv motor, runs mod 1 gearing, has a centre diff, has belted tyres that last for ages, will do almost 50 stock & 60 mph when you gear it up & stays nice & cool due to having a nice alloy heatsink.!! They drive fantastically, they're very durable & the bodies aren't as weak as some say. Mines around 8 months old, I've used it often, I've driven it hard, in all weather, on all surfaces & apart from needing the pillow ball hubs/knuckles/blocks? replaced due to being worn & a couple of small cracks in the body where the front wheel arches meet the body, it's still all original.!!! Amazingly enough I'M STILL ON THE ORIGINAL TYRES.!!! That's unheard of unless it's a crawler or an MT, I usually go through a set of tyres within a week or two, especially on road style tyres... I'm EXTREMELY impressed with them, so much so I've started using them on my other 1/8, 6S cars & they're doing a great job too.!! It also won't make you sick when you look at it.! 😉 😁 Like I say, keep that in mind when you're buying your next RC rally car.!
@taterbot2006 I agree, as a fan of Arrma vehicles. For example, their latest Kraton 6S EXB "Extreme Bash" is so fragile. Diff cups, drive shafts, arms, all pretty common weak points. Doesn't even take a hard bashing to break. Durability is superior in Traxxas vehicles generally. I had a Maxx 4S and that thing, while it had its issues, was near indestructable. I really dislike Traxxas as a company though, and I sold all my Traxxas vehicles except my XRT.
If you plan to keep it trash the electronics and the slipper clutch. Get the Center differential from the Traxxas Hoss and put 1 million weight oil and you'll love the truck!
Good review . Heat is the Enemy in RC . Unless you're running nitro , LOL. These issues are not new from them , I remember having one of their ESCs blow up because I changed gearing 2 teeth once . Thankfully , but after much ado, they sent a replacement , with the stern warning to never change stock gearing .
Arrma may not "offer" a Rally car, however, you can make one easily. I started with my LWB Granite. Vendetta F/R bumpers and arms with sway bars. SCT wheels on 17mm hubs A Tourag body. It is killer, I recommend every Arrma owner make one.
Bought the 2s fiesta and threw the 3s system in there I had laying around. Yes you do need to add fans on motor and esc it keeps it cool. I duct taped the wheels to make it the ultimate drift and power slide rc. I don’t strain the drive train that way, long run time on a 5400mah and endless smiles on my face every time. You should really try taping those tires up, loads of fun! :-)
And add the optional centre diff lol They should come with fans for the electronics. Your looking at £60ish ontop. And £60ish for centre diff seems a bit high too.
Traxxas are scammers with propriety batteries connection and the id battery which will only charge with traxxas charger neither of which are supplied when buying into the scam.
That thing is awesome. I love traxxas, Arrma, Losi, etc, they all have awesome RC’s. But I agree that if traxxas is gonna charge us premium prices for their cars, at least add heat sinks and cooling fans. They’re cheap as heck to buy. So why not just factory install them?
I bought the cheaper BL-2. I will upgrade the electronics. Too many people complain the vxl about running hot. The Maxx Slash is one of the toughest cars out there but have seen too many bad ESC right out of the box or shortly after.
Traxxas stuff is arguably more durable than an arrma. Traxxas chassis don't bend. And not to mention their parts are a hell of a lot cheaper than arrma. And, in all of my years of owning rc cars, I have never had a traxxas part break other than the body on an ancient rustler, which was inevitable.
Traxxas is where I got my start and they do make some cool stuff but definitely time to refresh their body liveries and maybe try to knock a few buck off. Way way over priced when TH-cam is a far better option then their customer support
Fun Fact, the LCG slash chassis originated on the Traxxas Rally when it first came out with a generic body years ago. People started doing conversions and a few months after traxxas released the LCG slash 4x4
The one thing Traxxas has going for it is their stuff is generally known for being super tough. My Xmaxx is absolutely tougher than any of my other RC's and the majority of my stuff is Aarma. As far as the heat there are aftermarket heat syncs that you can slap on the motor and I'd tighten the slipper a bit more as you increase the gear ratio...on top of installing a heat syncs, you can get one with a fan for less than. $10 on Amazon. I had the same issue with my Aarma Senton and Kraton out of the box when I geared them up
I have the original Rally that came out when they were wider. I absolutely love that car... Bashes and speed all in one. It handles so good on dirt... And drifts so well...
RC selling points always make me laugh, especially Traxxass's. Taking the most simple things and making them sound fancy. Comes with: TSM - Tentative Stupidity Management Cast aluminium 'wet' drivetrain lubricated with filtered gypsy tears New 'Incendiary' TM propulsion system featuring built in egg frying capabilities x4 Petroleum infused rubber gripping devices for maximum spin Ergonomic handheld vehicle control system with built in wankonometry Limited edition body designed by the pupils at Rushden Blind school 😂😂
It's probably the best yet from Traxxas 🤣🤣🤣 yeah they love all the fancy Nancy writing on the packaging and all the hyped up commercialism. Advertising in other words . I'm actually surprised though that the car got up to within 1 mile of it's claimed top end. And the servo actually didn't fail during the filming of this video. This has got to be a first for Traxxas. Maybe they were listening to what everybody has been saying? I'm actually impressed though. It's got potential and let's face it, who doesn't modify their RC cars with aftermarket parts? The easiest way is to keep the Traxxas plugs but solder in a different servi to the plug lead unless you want to spend big dollars to just replace all the Traxxas electrics. Not bad though 👌
Good review Phil. Yeah that motor is a worry. I was wondering if that guard on the back of the motor was rubbing the driveshaft, but looking through the vid that doesn't seem to be the case. The driveshaft would likely have a wear mark if that does happen. I dunno, maybe check the driveline so see if it is moving freely.
I don’t think anything was rubbing. I guess the slipper was not as tight as it should be, and my ‘over enthusiastic’ launching just was a little too much 😅
They are fast after you change the electronics out 🤣 i managed 127mph on 6s, stock body, stock plastic cvd's. 133 on 8s but that run was cut short with a epic crash

I like mine, I got the slower brushless one and then decided to up grade the parts. Doing that is actually more expensive. Traxxas does make a battery mount for this car so that it can take 3s batteries. I just one today. The part number is: 7426X. It does not cost very much. Thoughts?
Love the Rally. Ive owned a few now. A couple things, swap the slipper for a Hoss center diff. Get rid of the power plant. Its abhorrently inadequate. They use that same system in a 1/10 touring car.
Love the Traxxas Rally. Will be getting a couple of these with pro graphix body’s. Add this to my limited edition Valentino Rossi. I live around a 16T pinion but it’s the motor. I have 3 of the Vxl motors and all geared the same and 1 out of the 3 gets hot for some strange reason. I don’t think Traxxas would admit it’s a faulty motor but they do have a good warranty if you can identify the issue very quickly. I’m glad they revamped it. And I’m going to find out if I could fit XO-1 version 2 high velocity drive shafts on this Rally like I did for its previous versions. Because so far I’m unstoppable in the races against ARRMA road vehicles in the neighborhood races.😮
The vxl motor can handle really high temps. But a good heat sink an fan setup is needed for 3s wide open fun. The esc will also need a fan on it for 3s bashing. Besides that its a great system for what it is.
Coolest running rc car Ive got is a slash 2wd with a kyosho brushless sytem from their 1:9 buggy. 2400kv. Its like a 42mm motorn I bröove. I run it on 2s and the top speed is quite low. 3s works greeat too. Low kv, low RPM and a large motor is a good starting ground for low temps.
I think the Traxxas fan is only for the ESC, and it doesn't work too well. Going to have to get an aftermarket fan for it. I have the 4wd Rustler, and running it on 3s gets it sizzling hot on stock gearing.
My first mod was replacing the battery hold down with the Traxxas tall version, which will work for small or tall lipos. It should be standard equipment
It is the LCG Slash Chassis. I have it and was just thinking that looks identical. My Slash is a beast! JConcepts makes a great replacement honeycomb motor mount and fan combination that is stellar for the VXL. Really helps with keeping her cool.
I run a VXL motor with a Hobbywing 120 amp ESC on 4s. Figured if it would blow anyway it would on 4s. It's been going now a year strong on 4s topping out around 180dg on my laser temp bun after a full 6500mah pack. I honestly don't know why it hasn't melted down yet.
Absolutely love mine but i bought it as a roller stuffed hobbywing esc and a 3670 2750kv motor on 4s absolutely RIPS no heat issues and surprisingly the diffs are holding up fine but it does struggle to put the power down on those tires love it thou handles so well
I also recently found the VXL3S is not really a 3s capable system in my Slash 4x4. I was running it around our new local dirt track, and it cut power after about 4 laps. Stock gearing and no way it could make it through a race. 😒 Have yet to see if it did permanent damage.
i mean i put the .8 spur slipper setup with a 23 pinion on my brushed and that thing flys on 2s, keep temps in check of course. i enjoy it. i have the travis pastrana snap on edition
I'll never pass up an opportunity to mention how my Slash Raptor 2wd broke a rear driveshaft on only it's SECOND lipo.!!! The "Extreme Heavy Duty" ones cost me £12 EACH.!!! That was £28 after P&P.!! Still, it's turned out to be one of my favorite RCs, I've had it for a couple of years, I've had all sorts of different bodies & motors in it.. It's proven to be actually very durable since it crapped the bed on its first day.!😉
I run a good esc and twin motor fans on mine. I basically run a slash ultimate converted into a sort of back slash and do very well in open 1/10 classes. I run 2s though because thats our limit for 1/10 classes but I do run the high speed gearing and the esc and motor must have cooling or it will thermal. As far as the slipper clutch goes on the 3s vxl line I always go all the way tight, and 1/4 turn back off.
the more you crank up the stability management, the more the car works to keep itself straight, so the slower you'll go top-end. take all the slop out of the steering you can, turn the stability off, keep your right hand steady. you'll hit 60. i did. it's a pain and it's rare, but it can happen.
Anytime I run traxxas vehicles out of the box with a slipper they always need to be adjusted. Either they are cranked down tight or extremely loose. Inconsistency is my biggest concern. you can buy 3 of the same car and the slipper will be different on each one out of the box.
You should probably get the aluminium bearing adapter as well (parts number 6893x, yet another part that you think they would have included from the begining...) for it if you want to keep running on 3s. Plastic one will soon be melted.
At that price point, it should have adjustable coilover shocks and a center diff Just more reasoning for me to never support traxxas Time for the hobbywing 10blg2 combo and a center diff 😅
15:00 the heat, well, the body looks pretty sealed so how much air flow are you getting? (slim to none). I had the same issue with my 144001 so I cut out the vent holes and it improved immensely. I'd be checking the resistance through the drive train looking for anything that is binding. That would cause the motor to heat up as well.... amps + resistance = heat.
I have a trx6. That things been through quite a bit in the year and a half I’ve owned it. It’s certainly had its fair share of driving in water. I’ve never performed any maintenance on the car, and only clean it occasionally. The car is still rock solid, and the only thing I’ve ever had break on it has been some cracks in the body shell. Traxxas sure has me sold.
I have a 2wd slash, don’t even own a 3s battery, everything runs on 2s, and that vilineon 3300 still gets almost too hot to touch before I finish 1 battery pack.
I bought a Velenion in 2008 that I have in my Heavy Metal Sand Viper, and it doesn't get too hot. Then again, I only have a 19 tooth on the stock spur.
Might be useful to get hold of a FLIR set up for reporting on heat issues, they can be quite pricey but you might be able to pick up a second hand Cat or Blackview phone that has IR for a decent price (Probably other work phone makes that have models with infra red but those the two makes I've had phones from so i know they work)
I wonder if the ESC is pulling too much current for the motor to get so hot , and it definitely wasn't hot weather when you ran it . The 14TH scale LC RACING EMB range of RC'S can do upto 50+ mph on 3S power and they don't suffer red hot temperatures , and their motors are only a small 2840 motor in the rally car and buggy , and a 2850 motor in the truggy , and their ESC's are only 35 amp and 3S capable 🤔 .
The move is to get a Slash and buy a DeltaPlastik body for it. I have a Peugeot 405 body done up like the Camel Dakar one. 👀 These things really should be 4S. Castle 2400kv with a 16T pinion is bulletproof.
I got the Rustler Ultimate and that didn't come with fans, even for being the ultimate edition.. anyway I had the same heat issue. But when I installed a fan on the ESC and another fan on the motor with heat sync, I ran it endlessly on high speeds and motor stayed just warm for touch.
I have the original rally in the Snap On edition. The slipper is an odd design and not the same as the slash. Mine is now a 6s street speed machine. Not much is original anymore. One of my few non crawler cars
driving on the high speed pinion is like riding your bike in the highest speed gear all the time. its fast when you are moving but slow to get up there and takes a lot of energy at lower speeds.
well now you have a slash since it's a lcg slash with different bumpers. i race a slash 4x4 with a 15 tooth with a hcg chassis and a castle 3800kv motor

Your tomley 2 channel.. motor gets super hot.. ill repeat myself a lil bit for yall.. i took a pull off system out of a kraton 6s.. popped it in the vxl rally and ran it in 4s and solved the motor overheating issue.. only thing is i had mount the esc way forward with a homemade esc plate.. works perfectly now
Couldn't agree more on the radio... It's time.. 👍
I’ll be a little happier with them when they do lol
Differential kit, center (complete) (aluminum carrier)
Replace your Traxxas vehicle’s stock slipper clutch with this Pro-Built high-performance center differential.
It's also got a Hobbywing max 10, 120 amp, 4S ESC, a 3674, 2200kv motor, runs mod 1 gearing, has a centre diff, has belted tyres that last for ages, will do almost 50 stock & 60 mph when you gear it up & stays nice & cool due to having a nice alloy heatsink.!!
Like I say, keep that in mind when you're buying your next RC rally car.!
7 thousand year old transmitter LMAO bro i laughed way to hard at that
I want to laugh but I have one too.
I mean 7000 yrs is close enough right? 😅
😅😅😅
@@TomleyRC We were all thinking it.. lol
@@TomleyRCTraxxas seems to be in love with their “Late 90’s” Tech they’re the Tamiya of the USA
As usual, seems Traxxas should add a few more asterisks to their claims
@taterbot2006 Yeah my arrma cooked it's esc in a week it was an arrma infraction mega so not evne the top end version so it wasn't overpowered....
My MJX 14301 has fans and a gyro for under 200 dollars. It’s a hoot and at that price point I can afford three MJX models.
Same here mate! Traxxas connectors and batteries are very irritating. They are NOT that special !
Cheers
Arrma may not "offer" a Rally car, however, you can make one easily.
I started with my LWB Granite.
Vendetta F/R bumpers and arms with sway bars.
SCT wheels on 17mm hubs
A Tourag body.
It is killer, I recommend every Arrma owner make one.
oh... sounds pretty awesome! Might have too try it
Bought the 2s fiesta and threw the 3s system in there I had laying around.
The Rustler and Slash have the same heat issue where the center driveshaft meets the rear diff... Commonly melts the plastic.
Tekno axles are $20-30...
Personally I think traxxas should make a “pro controller” that mimics the Dx6c or something
And add the optional centre diff lol
They should come with fans for the electronics. Your looking at £60ish ontop. And £60ish for centre diff seems a bit high too.
Yeah.. it all adds up!
Traxxas need to get their 💩 together.
A) CHANGE PLUG SYSTEM ( annoying)
B) LIVERY REDESIGNED ( c’mon )
C) NEW TRANSMITTER NEED IT
Traxxas are scammers with propriety batteries connection and the id battery which will only charge with traxxas charger neither of which are supplied when buying into the scam.
I agree that a simple body in ford’s “performance blue” color would look really nice
Because they're "cheap as heck"...
This pinion issue has been brought up many times over the last 20 years or so. It's made of unobtainium and Traxxas don't even have them.
I bought the cheaper BL-2. I will upgrade the electronics. Too many people complain the vxl about running hot. The Maxx Slash is one of the toughest cars out there but have seen too many bad ESC right out of the box or shortly after.
This thing looks cheaper than the Chinese stuff. The electronics, the blue plastics they look really cheap.
Yeah, agree
Have you ever owned a traxxas?
Traxxas stuff is arguably more durable than an arrma. Traxxas chassis don't bend. And not to mention their parts are a hell of a lot cheaper than arrma. And, in all of my years of owning rc cars, I have never had a traxxas part break other than the body on an ancient rustler, which was inevitable.
@@runklestiltskin_2407 Traxxas is really overpriced old tech and looks cheap as hell!
Never judge a book by the cover
good old traxxas and their electronics. be careful with those plastic drive shafts. They are going to break after a few packs on 3S.
Traxxas is where I got my start and they do make some cool stuff but definitely time to refresh their body liveries and maybe try to knock a few buck off. Way way over priced when TH-cam is a far better option then their customer support
It's like they are becoming the Activision of RC cars. Barely change/upgrade a thing and then do a release or new creation.
I just got one of these yesterday. I love running it, but I did notice it got pretty hot. Fans should be standard for the motor and ESC at that price.
Well, it can go 60 out of the box but it overheats within 5 minutes, had to swap my 19t gear for a 15t just to drive it for more then 10 min.
Fun Fact, the LCG slash chassis originated on the Traxxas Rally when it first came out with a generic body years ago. People started doing conversions and a few months after traxxas released the LCG slash 4x4
Man idk what it is but watching your videos with your accent is just relaxing to me as a us guy lol keep up the cool vids man I’m all for it
The one thing Traxxas has going for it is their stuff is generally known for being super tough.
A linear power band allows smooth support for rally obstacles. Also you won’t spin out of control for trying to reach top speed
RC selling points always make me laugh, especially Traxxass's. Taking the most simple things and making them sound fancy.
Comes with:
TSM - Tentative Stupidity Management
Cast aluminium 'wet' drivetrain lubricated with filtered gypsy tears
New 'Incendiary' TM propulsion system featuring built in egg frying capabilities
x4 Petroleum infused rubber gripping devices for maximum spin
Ergonomic handheld vehicle control system with built in wankonometry
Limited edition body designed by the pupils at Rushden Blind school
😂😂
😂gipsy tears lubricaton
THAT IS VERY CREATIVE AND FUNNY
Good review Phil. Yeah that motor is a worry. I was wondering if that guard on the back of the motor was rubbing the driveshaft, but looking through the vid that doesn't seem to be the case. The driveshaft would likely have a wear mark if that does happen. I dunno, maybe check the driveline so see if it is moving freely.
I don’t think anything was rubbing. I guess the slipper was not as tight as it should be, and my ‘over enthusiastic’ launching just was a little too much 😅
The transmitter is so big. They designed a carrying handle on top. How thoughtful of them.😄
They are fast after you change the electronics out 🤣 i managed 127mph on 6s, stock body, stock plastic cvd's. 133 on 8s but that run was cut short with a epic crash
@@younggrasshopper-apprentice broken parts here and there but it's been rebuilt and turned down into a street basher. I have video of it on my channel just have to go back about 10 months
I don’t know anything about other brands. But the traxxas stuff absolutely needs fans.
Traxxas could have equipped a heatsink and a fan from factory on a €600 car. It only puts them down €3...
Tomley, you know you love traxxas 🎉🎉
You should also get the metal bearing adapter for the slipper clutch which should also come with the car.
TSM definitely robs power and top end. If you want to go faster and still maintain some traction control, turn the TSM down to a little below 25%.
i mean i put the .8 spur slipper setup with a 23 pinion on my brushed and that thing flys on 2s, keep temps in check of course. i enjoy it. i have the travis pastrana snap on edition
My slash also has a problem with an overheating motor, it actually smoldered some leaved that got court under the motor at one point 😕😕
all of these new 3s rigs need a fan, all of my arrma 3s rigs are super hot after bashing with no fan, its not just traxxas.
"New heavy duty" just means new updated but said in a much more trqxxas way. Everything comes HD now 😂 now let's go smash that 60 mph 🙄
Haha.. yeah, i’m trying to be fair 😅
It's proven to be actually very durable since it crapped the bed on its first day.!😉
@@alantaylor353Mip x duty on my rustler about 5 years ago never ever looked back once
@alantaylor353 I hit 94 mph with the Heavy duty kit with the traxxas hoss I had them upgrades since they came out mine never broke yet
Naw I put them to the test bashing in at 94 mph speed they are Heavy duty 2 years no problems
Love the close-up watch reveal. ⌚️
😇
the more you crank up the stability management, the more the car works to keep itself straight, so the slower you'll go top-end. take all the slop out of the steering you can, turn the stability off, keep your right hand steady. you'll hit 60.
i did. it's a pain and it's rare, but it can happen.
If a motor gets too hot to touch. It's too hot! The motor is getting damaged, and the magnets are getting weakened. 160-170f / 71-76c MAX
At that price point, it should have adjustable coilover shocks and a center diff
Just more reasoning for me to never support traxxas
Time for the hobbywing 10blg2 combo and a center diff 😅
Yes, it’s certainly not great value for money. I’m trying to be a little less angry with my Traxxas videos haha
The slipper clutch seems like it needs tightening on 3S and the 19t pinion.
Love the Rally and how it drives. They really should include fans for the motor and esc at the price point imo.
I have a 2wd slash, don’t even own a 3s battery, everything runs on 2s, and that vilineon 3300 still gets almost too hot to touch before I finish 1 battery pack.
It does look great to drive, aside from the overheating. Gotta agree im not a fan of the looks.
I have the one with the body pins my only gripe is the body scrapes the ground when I do small jumps
do a comparison between this and Maverick Quantum RX Flux 4S and see if twice the price is twice as nice
I upgraded my infraction to 8s and I put my infractions stock 6s setup in mine. LoL, I Geared it 24/50 on 32P gears...the thing is mental.
I bought a Velenion in 2008 that I have in my Heavy
Metal Sand Viper, and it doesn't get too hot. Then again, I only have a 19 tooth on the stock spur.
And the fan wont help really. Always been that way. Sidewinder 8 combo fits perfectly
Man traxxas transmitters are ass. Mine gave up on range after 2 days. I mean I upgraded directly but wanted to use that tx for something else!
They are certainly one of the worst RTR transmitters about
Might be useful to get hold of a FLIR set up for reporting on heat issues, they can be quite pricey but you might be able to pick up a second hand Cat or Blackview phone that has IR for a decent price (Probably other work phone makes that have models with infra red but those the two makes I've had phones from so i know they work)
I wonder if the ESC is pulling too much current for the motor to get so hot , and it definitely wasn't hot weather when you ran it .
These things really should be 4S.
Sounds like a beast!
driving on the high speed pinion is like riding your bike in the highest speed gear all the time. its fast when you are moving but slow to get up there and takes a lot of energy at lower speeds.
well now you have a slash since it's a lcg slash with different bumpers. i race a slash 4x4 with a 15 tooth with a hcg chassis and a castle 3800kv motor
I installed the Traxxas heat sink (traxxas 3458) & cooling fan (traxxas 3456) it fixed that problem of getting hot.
You need the heat sink for the vxl motors. Awesome little motors but they need proper cooling
