  • Thinking about buying a Traxxas UDR? Watch this first!
    In this video I explain everything that I hate about my UDR and what I'm doing to fix it. We even do a quick comparison to the Arrma Mojave.
    Let's give the UDR a quick refresh with a Proline Body, new servo and Traxxas Light Kit install and explore all the reasons I hate working on this thing.

    I have owned mine for a couple years and love it. Most of your repairs don't even require taking off the top anyways. It is mostly designed to be repaired from underneath. It is not a basher for sure! I had to round off the edges of my wheels so it wouldn't be so easily tipped over when I turn hard. It isn't the most balanced car for sure. This car was mostly designed as a trophy truck and a lot of detail was done for it. I have my Traxxas Maxx as my basher if I want to get crazy!
    I do need to play with my RC's more. I have spent a bit of time the past 2 years more into getting into drones than anything else. Flying in Manual mode is so much fun!

    I went UDR because it's actually scale, not just a body like a big traxxas slash. Basically a kraton with a SC body. I like trailing arms, solid diff, belly pan etc.
    Get a drill and you'll forget all about the screws lol.

    Must say, as much of a pain this truck is to work on it’s so fabulous to drive, looks and feels fantastic, i suppose each to your own but I sold my mojave after buying my UDR lol. Great informative video either way 👍

    Can confirm that almost everything on the UDR is fragile and a pain to repair...
    Except the motor and transmission.
    They are tough and the gears still look great after some serious torture.
    Every other stinking part though, ugh. Replaced everything else at least once.
    It seems to crash hard,too. I blame lack of control while in the air for the massive cartwheels and nose dives they will inevitably suffer. You sure got it looking great.

    I like the challenge of driving it and how it looks and feels. I've had some hard rolls etc and so far I've been lucky with nothing broken and actually impressed by the durability - though coming from R/C heli's and planes thats always gonna be the case! Love the paintjob - definitely want to try it out for myself now.

Great scale and always gets some compliments @ the park or wherever I take it too. Great RC no doubt and very durable as the only items I replaced was the steering servo and the front skid plate. I used to have a Losi Rock Rey. I got an electric screw driver. Many, many screws. I sold it and regretted it almost immediately. Bigger RC's weigh more and put a lot more stress on the parts so that is certainly a consideration. AGFRC servos are great and actually provide their rated torque, they make servos for literally everyone. I got a chuckle out of you working on this thing, I think I cussed the hell out of that Rock Rey everytime I worked on it. lol.

      I’ve driven probably a half a dozen X-Maxxes. The first one had ESC issues and was on LiPo cutoff mode (using fully charged Traxxas batteries) the second one blew an ESC under partial throttle moments after I was handed the transmitter. (Sorry Hank) and most recently we jumped one off of a 18” kicker and the rear wheel bearings exploded and instantly chewed about the drive cup on the diff. The others that didn’t blow up were overall kinda mediocre to drive. They look fantastic and I’ve seen some take sone abuse. That just hasn’t been my experience.

Upgraded diff cases and do the open diff mod in rear. / rpm trailing arms/ steering servo and front drive shaft that connects the trans to the front diff. The motor shaft has flat part on it.. chances are the first time the grub screw came loose it rounded a part of the flat end on the motor shaft.. thats why most of the pinions keep coming loose.. so take ur motor and take a file. Re flatten the part the grub screw sits on and bobs ur uncle it will stay tight..

    I was just thinking about it recently, since you have been having issues with this truck, you know what you should try? Since you love your little 1/10 Losi Race trucks, get the 1/6th Super Baja Rey 2.0. I picked up mine a few weeks ago and everyone was right - it is a freaking TANK. People bash it NEARLY like its an X-Maxx and it just takes it, its incredibly well made and probably the most realistic and most scale driving experience there is on the market. The extra weight and size over a standard Baja Rey just makes it handle with so much more realism, its stunning to look at, and it produces the most epic RC Slow-Mo footage of all time. Seriously, just check out how this thing flies and watch the suspension in action, its absolutely gorgeous and you will love the truck for the rest of your life, I guarantee it. Yes, this truck is even more scale/realistic than the Traxxas UDR. In fact, I think this is the most scale RC available that isn't a crawler. Think about it, Losi literally went to the full size Brenthel Racing Trophy Truck team and literally copied the design down to every last little detail possible and then featured the full-sized truck running along-side the SBR 2.0 in their official promo video. I mean, there really isn't any way to get any more scale than that lol. Check out some epic slow-mo footage I found from a smaller YT channel: th-cam.com/video/FaA_qfb7ktI/w-d-xo.html

    • @wallacengineering8096
      @wallacengineering8096 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donpaynter1980 Ya for some reason all the Trophy Trucks are moving towards this dumb idea of bolting the cage down and then bolting the body to it. The Traxxas UDR is just as much of a pain using basically the same battery loading procedure and the same bolted on body and cage.
      I mean on one hand I get it: they want to re-enforce the expensive, large, extensively detailed Trophy Truck Body. When the body is out over the wheels instead of tucked in like a traditional Truggy, its super fragile and easy to break.
      But still, both trucks could have been set up like the Losi LaserNut instead. I love how the cage is bolted onto a hinge in the back and then you can just remove the two front body clips and the whole buggy just opens right up, with the body attached to the cage and that cage only bolted to the hinge in the rear.
      In fact I think this hinge system is the future of body mounting. Its solidly mounted and won't pop off like a Traxxas Clipless Body but its also incredibly simple and quick to use, just like the Traxxas Clipless Body System.

    Investment electric screwdriver it takes me less than 2 minutes to pull the body off my UTI and if yours has a lot of issues and it's breaking a lot sounds like you got a lemon I've had my UDR for a little over two years I run a battery pack through it at least once every two weeks at least faithfully so far I've had to change one front drive shaft I replace the rear drive shaft just because it was starting to get a little bit sloppy I have got a couple cracks in my body and a whole lot of scratches on the roof and I broke one front sway bar so that I made my own sway bars out of coat hanger wire front and rear and it made the truck handle a little bit better I've been through three and a half sets of tires and that is it and I am by no means easy on that thing at all I have jumped it countless times probably 10 ft in the air I have lawn darted it many times I hear a lot of people saying they break a lot of parts but mine has been tough as hell and I've put it through its paces like I say I have not been easy on it by no means I have a track that I made behind my house I run the same track with my E-Revo 2.0 my E-Revo 2.0 has had many upgrades I take the UDR off the same jumps as I take my E-Revo off from even though the UDR is not meant for that it is meant more for scale driving but I can promise you that jump has broke my E-Revo 2.0 many more times but has not done much to my Udr

    The Traxxas trucks that everyone are exited about are the new 1/6th XRT (X-Maxx converted into a Truggy) and the new 1/18th TRX4-Mini which I think you will especially appreciate as Traxxas literally just looked at the Axial SCX24, made it ever so slightly bigger, and then simply built everything so much better. The Mini/Micro Crawling scene just got turned completely upside-down, nobody was expecting Traxxas to absolutely obliterate all the competition in the Mini/Micro crawling scene. And this is coming from someone who has boycotted Traxxas for 15 years, I might be finally buying a Traxxas despite how much I hate the company and its corporate practices.

    well. the first thing i see that use several brands of rc. including traxxas axial tamiya arrma etc. look in a comment, everything you hit or break you have to repair it, be it an arm, a pin, a servo or even a lugnut and from the part of the battery compartment and the adapters already exist, extend to use larger batteries and there are 3d parts batteries plugs to be able to use other types of plugs. Unless you don't know how to use a soldering machine, do it yourself. all broken if you really are a dirty rc you have to repair it and make upgrades. And the most important thing about this type of truck is to enjoy it, not to launch it because it is not a basher, speed run or drag racer. each type of rc is made for which it is designed. Or you'd throw an X-01 20 feet in the air and hope nothing breaks. Guys, come on, don't complain about something that you know is in any rc, whether it's a crawler, basher, speed run, drag racer, or drifter. something has to break. or at least that all their rcs have them as shelf queens. Well that's my humble point of view. 🤷🏻

    • @CasperRc81
      @CasperRc81 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They should really put sensored systems in these after all they are scale. If Red cat can there really no excuse. Yeah I bought the super Baja Rey when these first dropped snd my Nieghbor bought your exact UDR.
      -I was a little put back that the traxxas looked far more detailed but his broke stupid shit. Bent links drive shaft rear servo for really no reason an axial WB8 hd shaft would have lived better and the SBR was better to work on for the similar prices. I think there too fast the UDR. So no I’m happy with the purchase. It’s still a nice looking rig and I would choose to drive the UDR slower and more scale.
      -like your guys reviewing thank you very much and God bless.
