    WORST
1 - no volume knob on the center stack
Is this going to be a huge deal to you if you own the car? Maybe not, but more than once I got in the car in the morning and the energy and volume I had the night before did not match the energy i had in the morning
And i found myself looking for a volume knob to quickly turn it down but no dice…just a bunch presses or toggles on the steering wheel
2 - no WIRELESS car play
This is kind of a nit pick and a fringe issue. The only reason i have it on the negative list is that this is the range-topping limited trim and as tested it’s over 40k so it’s a good chunk of change
So at this price and trim i might expect wireless car play
    3 - rear seats aren’t super big
This is a problem for really anyone over like 5’6”. It’s really cramped in terms of legroom back here
The headroom is fine, but with a 4 foot bed and being as compact as it is, they had to borrow space from somewhere
Also it’s really dark back here. No pano roof and the shape of the rear door doesn't leave a lot of window
You DO get USB-Cs back here though and climate vents
4 - doesnt offer a hybrid like the Maverick
This is one shortcoming of the Santa Cruz…simply the choice not to offer a hybrid
Hyundai has an array of hybrid AND plugIns in their lineup, and yet they don’t offer a hybrid
Of course a hybrid would be more pricey and the Santa Cruz is already more expensive than the Maverick so maybe they didnt want to pile on
HOWEVER, the 22 mpg combined is a lower figure than i’d expect while the Maverick is closer to 40
    5 - it’s pricey
Yeah as tested with the turbo engine and the limited trim it’s over 40k
And that’s a lot moe than a maverick but it’s a lot more car than the maverick
    You get loads more features
    The interior is nicer
    You get more payload
    More towing
Idk to me the extra money might be worth it
    BEST
    1 - it’s weird
That’s my favorite thing. It’s a weird concept from an unexpected manufacturer and it triggers truck people which is always fun
2 - The ride is really good
It’s unibody…unlike a conventional pickup so the suspension is more refined, the steering is better, and it handles bumps better…and most importantly this week…it comes with full time AWD and it’s been very good on ice
Also you do have a nice high seating position like you would in a truck
    3 - It’s quick
This is the upgraded turbo engine which means 280 hp and 311 lbft
With that and AWD traction 0-60 is done in just 6 seconds
The turbo effect is very apparent here as well, once it’s spooled up you GO
    It’s a tsunami of torque
    4 - The bed
    Yeah no duh it’s small - it’s 4 feet
But you bought the tiny truck so what did you expect?
Still fits my snowboard so im good
    Payload 1750 lbs…pretty impressive..more than maverick
But there’s a bunch of added practicality and useability here
For one they all come wit these tonneau covers
They all come with a bed liner
You get these two cubbies on either side of the bed
    It’s got a 120V outlet
You get hooks and tie downs
AND you get the incognito pouch which is something every truck-that-truck-people-wouldnt call-a-truck should have
The incognito pounch also has a drain so you can tailgate next a Silverado owner and make them mad while you get cold beers from your little hidden bed pouch
    5 - towing
With the upgraded turbo engine we have here we can tow up to 5000 lbs
Thats the same as my old 4runner…not bad
Plus little bed steps here in the rear bumper
    5 - the face
It’s a tucson until a tucson pulls up…or you look at the side
But the grille and hidden running lights are cool..idk why but again weird and i like that
    6 - Interior
It’s again very tucson in here which means nice low dash
    Clean design
    Comfy seats
    Heated and cooled seats
    Heated steering wheel
    10 inch Digital cluster
    10 inch screen
    It’s all very nice
    7 - tech
You get car play and yes it’s wired but you also get HDAS which is a top 3 or 5 autopilot system and we constantly praise the hyundai driver assist tech
    Plus quiet mode
    And sounds of nature…classic
    6 - easter eggs
    Triangles
    Santa cruzes everywhere
    Rear bumper
    Bed sides
    Each wheel arch

Great List and video. I have a 23 Limited Santa Cruz. 1,300 miles on it so far and love every minute of driving it! Was able to fit 4 19 inch wheels and tires in the bed with the gate closed which was a nice surprise.
Id say Best feature has to be the Surround view monitor cameras AND The blind spot cameras in the cluster for both Right and Left turns ( what now Honda? ) Also the heated steering wheel and the dark gray/orange stitch leather interior is a cool quirky feature that I had to have.

It's basically a Tucson SUV with an open bed in back. The interior and smooth ride is of the Tucson and the open bed is of a truck. It's built in U.S.A. and the Maverick is built in Mexico. That accounts for some of the price difference too.

A Night edition comes with the turbo and awd but with the base infotainment system (which has roller knobs for volume and tuning).
The Night edition is about $4k less than the limited.
What you give up with the Night edition is:
    1)color options
    2)heated steering wheel
    3)air conditioned seats
    4)leather seats
    5)factory navigation
    6)adaptive cruise
    7)premium sound/infotainment system
We really like our night edition and don't miss those extra features because we'd never use them.

With respect, physical audio buttons are #1?! 1. Mute on steering wheel, single push "button" or 2. Audio settings in vehicle setup that limit volume when initially turned on, both are pretty easy and quick solutions...

It's a great vehicle. We just bought one last week. The Santa Cruz Premium model in Sage Gray (which is green of course). Great power, grips the road nice, comfortable, smooth ride, good lighting (inside and out), fuel efficiency is decent (especially with our hilly terrain here in the Ozarks). It is my wife's vehicle, and before she was still driving her 2009 Nissan Versa, so this might as well be a spaceship by comparison. She continuously comments that you can cruise (even over all the hills) at 60 to 65 while barely even pushing the gas pedal. We have to take a decent number of road trips per year (at least a state away) and this will be a very smooth and comfortable ride for that. The vehicle is new enough and still rare enough in our area that we get some interesting looks from people.

The price difference between the SC and the Maverick is imaginary at this time. You can go to a dealer and buy a SC. If you can find a Maverick on a lot it's going to be $5k or more over MSRP. The lower trim levels of the SC are better than the higher ones, IMO. They have a real volume control (it's a silly roller thing instead of a knob, but it exists) and real controls for the HVAC, and a real gauge cluster. The regular 8 speed transmission is more reliable than the dual clutch that comes with the turbo. I just wish they would separate the roof rails from the activity package. But at least they offer them which is something you can't get on the Maverick. Another thing the SC has that I don't think I have seen any reviewer ever mention is stake pockets. You can cut out a rectangular shape on the bed rails to get access to them and mount accessories in there or just stick 2x4s to raise up the bed sides.

      Hyundai KIA cars are
      1. catches fire,
      2. easy to steal,
      3. engine Blow up
      4. weakest transmission in the market
      5. company lie about gas mileage

I bought a 2023 FWD SEL a month ago, couldn't be more pleased. Rides about like my 18 Ford Edge, plus I can haul a little plywood or some medium length lumber from the yard, also works for my kayak. Looked at Ridgelines but they didn't fit in the garage. For $30k this fit the bill for what I needed. No car, SUV, or truck is perfect for everyone, this little rig does what I need and it's cool looking. Five year warranty and service for 3 years, verry happy.

I have owned my 2022 Santa Cruz premium AWD almost a month. I traded in a Cadillac XTS Luxury sedan. I got the SC at 17494 miles. It is desert sand color, and I like it a lot.
It sits higher off the road, and I do not need to fall into it to sit. Getting out of the driver's seat is very nice too. The passenger seat not having electric controls gets my goat. The seat heaters work REALLY well. The entire cockpit (yes, that is what it feels like) is super slick. I would expect streamlined infotainment on any vehicle after 2020. I particularly like the wireless phone charger in the dash. I do have suggestions for upgrades, but I am not a car manufacturer. (A phone holder that will wirelessly charge your phone while holding the screen up for you to use).
I love the cubby holes. That being said, no room for reading glasses or sunglasses included. Currently the tow package has a fire hazard in the wiring, and I am waiting to have that ironed out, I need that hitch.
The driver assist features are spectacular. The complete digital dash is something I have always wanted. The way the side cameras display on the speed dial for left turns or left lane changes and the tack dial for the right is simply over the top. I am very careful, but that blind spot just gets me.
The lane assist is not fool proof. I would not rely on it on winding roads. If you are the freeway, and the turns are gradual, it is great. Adaptive cruise is nice, but the interval of keeping your hand physically on the wheel is annoying.
I love the tonneau cover and the soft opening tailgate. The hidden space on the floor of the bed is so cool "BUT". I used it without closing the lid and there was no way to bypass the warning that it was open. So either you can only have stuff that will allow you to close the compartment cover, or it will beep incessantly.
The door locks and open sensors are magical, but no option for the rear doors. As demonstrated in the clip, no much room in the back seat with a tall drive and passenger. Since I drive mostly alone or with my girlfriend, it is not a problem. As I was driving away from the lot, I got the feeling of a large open view. Kind of like when you have your sun visor down for a while then you put it up, and your view gets bigger. It stays that way and I like.
The controls are only problematic if you have greasy fingers. I have no problem with volume, track changes, speeding up or setting cruise control. It is still taking my a while to remember where the climate controls are, but I am getting there. I really liked my Cadillac, but the SC is a nice way up.

I loved the prototype of this truck in the 2 door configuration. But I was always baffled why Hyundai didn’t have the bulkhead behind the rear seats fold down (along with rear seats), knowing that they would be the smallest truck bed out there. They could of solved the lack of space in a forward thinking way….I’m with you, I love quirky cars and trucks👍

    • @krtwood
      @krtwood ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've been hoping somebody will come up with a competitor in this segment with a passthrough. The SC does have roof rails as an option and in combination with a rack in the bed that was level with the crossbars on the roof you could carry long stuff.

Actually, when I was researching the SC vs. the Maverick, I found that a fully loaded Mav was only about $3000 less than the SC Limited. And as you pointed out, you get a bunch more in the SC for the 3k. So personally, I did not see the price difference between the two vehicles as a negative for the SC, and consequently bought one.
That said, I really, really really dislike the lack of driver memory, fold-down armrest with cupholders in the backseat, and an electric rear sliding window. But it's already $41k, so I can only imagine what the price would be if these were added.

Love my SC. You get used to the volume on the steering wheel. I now try to put the volume down in my hubby’s vehicle from the steering wheel. The Apple car play sucks though. ❤ The uniqueness of the SC. One other bad thing. When you put roof racks, they are noisy. Still love it though and it pulled my pop up camper easily.

  • @MajinLiveTV
    @MajinLiveTV ปีที่แล้ว +3

I'm pretty set on a limited. The volume knobs I could care less about as I use the steering wheel volume control as it is. Also I like the cleaner look plus the bigger 10 inch screen. Not to mention the limited is the only trim with leather and ventilated seats, imho thats a must. The digital dash in front of the steering wheel is awesome, you can change the look of the dials as you please and dont see why anyone would prefer the old school analogs. Dont know if the other trims have it but all the customization can be saved to a profile so that if someone else in your family drives it they can change to their profile without messing up your preferences. So all in all a ton of features I never seen in a car.
Looking at the interior of the comparable Maverick even a Lariat trim just doesn't look good. Too boxy and ugly, but I never liked Ford's style to begin with so I am biased.
Another selling point on the SC for me is that it has one of the shortest possible overall lengths and still be a truck. I live in one of those cookie cutter homes in the south east and the garage is so short anything above 200" won't fit inside and I'd hate to buy a new vehicle just to have to leave it on the driveway. Not many trucks that size.

(Comment before watching the whole video because goldfish brain). I really really like this vehicle, the only thing that’s truly stopping me from pulling the trigger and putting a down payment on it is because it’s still in that first/second gen phase and the bed size. My will of waiting is dropping down day by day but I’m hoping that they finally release an extended bed/2 door extended bed version in the next year (god willing) if not the next couple years.

In the last 6 months I've seen a few more.. Its a cool quirky and different truck, well, UTE. My dad is currently looking at one. debating the NA vs Turbo. He had an El Camino back in the early 80s. My dad's really wanting it for a knock around truck being my mom's 2019 Ram 1500 is too nice of a truck to get fuel in for the tractors, plus its a second vehicle. For a second vehicle do they really want to spend 36-40k? Right now if my moms truck is in the shop, I'm the shofar. Even at that, my Dakota isn't much bigger than a Santa Cruz. They've always had big trucks, unfortunately, with my dad's age/health he cant really jump up in/out his old 3500 4x4 Dually like he used to... plus today, if you're not towing, why have a full size truck. Thats why I got the Dakota back then and why I still have it today. It makes sense in any time period.. The Maverick looks too small and sits as low as my truck does now AFTER a 2/3" drop. Plus have you seen a Maverick dropped? Hello mini-trucks again.

The lower trims have a real gauge cluster. And real controls for the HVAC. And it has a real shift lever unlike the rotary knob in the Maverick.

The lack of volume control is a big deal. And no, you aren't nitpicking when it comes to wireless integrations. Apple or Android.
It's 2023, and if you're going to make a are, you can't make it for 2010. There are expectations.
    It's not a nitpick, it's a requirement for competition.
The rear seat is a disaster. That's some 1988 shit that sports cars used to do in the old days. That hasn't happened for 30 years. So bringing back bad design is unforgivable.
You don't need to be #1 in MPG, but you can't be 50% less than you competitors.
Now, it's bed amenities are nice. No doubt. Too small, obviously. But nice nonetheless.

Did you follow the scheduled services/ maintenance visits during the break-in period??? As l understand it that is crucial.... and complimentary as well.
Like with most warrantee programs: you have to hold up your end of the bargain.
It's my guess that might be your problem.
Did you read your owner's manual???

@@markymark7619 Yeah, before we decided to purchase our Santa Cruz, we went and test drove a couple of Mavericks as well. Let me tell you, you get what you pay for when you buy the Santa Cruz by comparison. Our impression of the Maverick was that the whole thing felt flimsy and cheap by comparison. Heck I almost busted the middle console lid right off when I got in the thing, and I didn't even hit it that hard. Does that mean that the Santa Cruz should be as expensive as it is, well that is up for debate. But, everything about the Santa Cruz is higher quality as far as we can see and feel.

@@DrForester54 It's built in U.S.A. and the Maverick is built in Mexico. That accounts for some of the price difference too.

Maverick was engineered to be built and sold cheap. SC was engineered off a widened and stretched Tucson platform. It rides and feels much higher quality because it is.
