  • Hey there, welcome to my honest owner's review of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz! I've been driving this car for a year now, and I want to share my personal experiences and thoughts with you. This review is from the perspective of an everyday car owner, not a professional car reviewer, so you'll get an honest and relatable viewpoint.
Let's start with the basics. The Santa Cruz is a pickup, but it's not your typical full-size tow rig. It's smaller in size and has a unibody construction. Think of it as an alternative to the Honda Ridgeline, with its crew cab and short-bed body style. What caught my attention right away was the Santa Cruz's unique and eye-catching design. It definitely stands out among other mid-size trucks on the road.
Now, when you step inside, you'll notice that the interior is quite snazzy compared to its competitors. The Santa Cruz offers a comfortable and stylish cabin that I've enjoyed spending time in. However, there's one downside I have to mention: some models lack physical controls, which can be a bit disappointing. I'll dive deeper into this during the review.
Let's talk about the engine, turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine available with 281 horses and 311 pound-feet of torque.
When it comes to performance, the Santa Cruz handles well and is easy to maneuver around town. It's shorter and lower than its competitors, which makes it a breeze to navigate through tight spaces. I'll share my personal experiences with the cars ride quality and handling, focusing on the Limited model I've been driving.
One of the standout features of the Santa Cruz is its open bed. It's what qualifies this vehicle as a pickup, and it adds a functional twist to the tired crossover formula. I'll showcase the practicality of the bed and discuss how it compares to other trucks in its class.
Throughout this review, I'll provide an honest and unbiased assessment of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz, highlighting both its strengths and weaknesses. Join me as I show you all the interesting aspects of the car and share my real-life impressions after a year of ownership.

Got one in the same color a couple of months ago. It's the 1st time I've been excited to buy a truck. I like that it's a truck for non truck enthusiasts.

Looking at one now. I've been told the turbo DCT is extremely problematic and can leave you stranded. Lots of issues and Hyundai isn't warrantying these easy. Been looking at the non-turbo just from the amount of known issues that have been documented. Hope you don't experience and thanks for a nice review!

No problems yet but I wish it would have an old school automatic gearbox. The dual clutch shifts pretty harsh sometimes and does not feel right somehow. The turbo takes a while to produce some torque as well.

Throttle House has the best description of the Santa Cruz. "It's a trucky car."

It's a SUV where they copped off the back part of the car and put a truck bed there. It drives like a SUV and I love the ride quality, way better than a truck.

My dad wanted me to get an SUV, I wanted a truck, so this is a great compromise.

Any oil consumption issues? I heard there’s a class action lawsuit for Hyundai/Kia motors

Is this a Limited ot XRT??
You know the Ford Sport Trac started it all. They used the Explorer and gave it a bed.

It's the Limited. I like the size of this car, it's not too big and still practical.
