I'm just having fun casually grinding out my HR in Rise while occasionally going for crowns and I'm nearly at 400hrs.
I just like hunting monsters and that's it. It's a fun game with fun gameplay, and while the endgame grind might be non-existent, you can still just play the game to have fun.

I’m surprised that nobody is talking about certain quality of life improvements that were present in the demo. The one that really impressed me was that calling your palamute is way faster now. In base rise you have to wait for you palamute to run all the way over to you, but now they’ve made it so your dog digs into the ground and pops up right underneath you for you to mount instantly. I actually used my dog a lot during fights because of this feature, it’s so good.

No because it would imply rise was good to begin with in order for the expansion to be "better". Better as in more good. Instead, this is what Rise should have been to begin with, and the expansion should've expanded on base Sunbreak(Rise)

I started with World, then played Rise and then tried GenU and the first quest I failed, was Solo HR7 HUB Hyper Rathalos (what a shit fight btw), but I don't know how many quests I failed back then when I played through World for the first time. Hell, good old Darks Souls player me, triple carted against LR Barroth. So difficulty has a lot to do with your experience. If you have played s lot of Monster Hunter, the new one will always be way easier then for new players, the veterans will only find their challenge only in the endgame, this was true for GU, Word and it is true for Rise.

I think we can be pretty certain that's not what happened with the Rise launch. We can't know for Sunbreak, but with Rise the game wasn't just low on content, it was just plain launched incomplete during a time period when Covid was causing mass-delays in game launches and Capcom had suffered serious issues from a hack. You fought the same 3 tempered elders and that's it. Jho, golden goddess and the events helped with some endgame and then Behmoth came. Slapp3d everyone for a few weeks and finally. Iceborne came put and solved all the real issues.
Monhun Gen not GU. But base Gen was just as bad
Monhun 4 not 4u was just as bad.
Everyone keeps thinking that base games are supposed to be these super long experiences when there literally not. Every. Single. Game. The west has gotten until world was always the completed Grank versions. And that's the game everyone put far to much time into. Because that's when everything was made to kick your ass.
If you don't beilive me. Go play all of village in gen and 4u and just stop don't enter the hub. And simply play those. You'll get the same feeling of I'm missing something. Because you are. This isn't a new issue.

Topple the target with the combo ender monster, beat the shit out of it, then run away and do it with the *other* large monster all over again. By the time you're said and done, the monster is missing a large chunk of its health for little to no effort-it trivialized many of the DLC and endgame monsters where this was abusable, and I absolutely disliked Wyvern Riding as a result.

My main complaint with Rise boiled down to 2 things: Not enough questing and not enough new content. Until event quests happened, the game launched with a total of something like 50 hub quests and 30 village quests (or fewer). I finished my Rise playthrough with about 130 hours, and the only reason I got THAT much out of it is cuz i had a few friends i had to help catch up. As for new monsters, i went through each game and tallied how many new monsters were released for Rise. Even base World, a game they had to build from the fucking ground up, had 17 NEW monsters. I wasn't around for earlier gens and how much their base games offered, but I counted all the monsters unique to those game, and even they're in the 20s. Rise had 11. Even Narwa and the Apexes, variants on the old, didn't come out til later in the life cycle. Like you said, the game had no challenging end game for when I completed the main game, but even the main game had so few quests and monsters, I felt cheated by the same company that brought me MH4U, my first monster hunter game and one I sank 450 hours into.

I hope that when capcom decides to add difficulty to each monster, it will be new mechanics and move set because I hated fighting the advanced monsters. All it was to me was for difficulty add more damage and all that meant for me was dodge more often. I would like for some monster to have something like a debuff that says if you are ranged your bullets will deal less damage unless you aim at a certian part of the monster vs if melee on other monster maybe you will have to sharpen more often, this could be affected with needing to use items in your field pouch to negate said debuffs

no way to actually tell if the endgame loop is fixed until we reach it, but in terms of difficulty and excitement i agree that they definitely delivered with the fights in the demo. anyone who has fought Astalos in Generations Ultimate will most likely fair well against him their first hunt, but Malzeno? not surprised if most people timed out against him first try. i learned his patterns quickly but in that process i didn't deal enough damage to him to secure the win- all while maniacally grinning at the quest failed screen. im so happy with his fight i may just sit with that failed attempt and wait for a real rematch in the full game.

Once against Aknosom (village), once against Almudron (village), twice against Tigrex (hub), and a few times during the rampages, specifically against Apex Diablos, Apex Mizu, and Ibushi. Tetranadon actually being able to follow my wirebug antics was a sight to see for sure. I like Tetra, so I'm happy it got a decent upgrade. That said, I'm not sure it'll be for me tbh. I already found Rise to be overwhelmingly fast and chaotic and the saving grace was that single hits didn't usually spell doom. With the new switch skill swap, I was completely overwhelmed in the demo. I'm still on the fence about the expansion for that reason. Maybe I'll sit it out for a slightly less hyperactive game in the series (fingers crossed)....

    • @MatheusMarti

The thing is, you don't need to use the Switch Skill Swap if you don't want, you can play like in base Rise just fine, they didn't balance the game around it, it's just another extra tool.

    • @yohoopzcrazy4629
      @yohoopzcrazy4629 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I agree that the skill swap thing is "too much to handle" at first, but I think (or at least I hope) that's because we don't get to build our own skill sets in the demo - so our brains can't predict what's where and that leads to confusion / overwhelmingness. I tried making some "clean" setups in the base camp, and then putting exactly what I wanted in each slot and scroll color, and that helped a ton.
I'm still not really feeling the actual swap action, but I think with time it'll feel natural, much like wirebugs in base Rise (shoutouts to everyone, including myself, getting midair combo'd by Magna because of wirefall mashing immediately after getting hit lol)

i love when someone says that rise is easy and the video shows up a LS user spamming the counters XD also i love when someone compares it to world, keeping in mind that as today world has MR while Rise still does not. all games prior to world weren't as easy because the mobility. for me it was fine but most people say that mobility sucked. let's not talk about all the quality of life upgrades that world had. an inmense amount, which were carried away into rise, and rise got a few more. you remember how insanely clunky the clutch claw mechanic was? refined into the wirebugs. yes, those tiny details change the "difficulty" insanely. for the "rise hasn't captured the player's interest as long as the other games" well, world did just for the fact that you had to farm gems that had 0'X% chances to appear... let's compare it to the mh3u/4u charms that had literally 0.0000X% chance to get.
for the new monsters in rise: Don't compare it to the base game... why are you comparing the moveset of a tutorial-level monster with the one of a end-game difficulty? that's basically what ALL the previous versions had. heck. mh4 engame was pure crap. you can't even imagine how pointless was to play it past the end of it (unless you had a japaneses 3DS or a pirated one) ... while 4u ended up being one of the comunity most loved entries...
also, base mhw can be totally played with the very first armor you get.
i just want one of those people that say "mhw iceborne is hard" play the 4u version until they got all the perfect relic armor and weapons, for example.

This is exactly what I've been saying for like an entire year now. Capcom has never dropped the ball with a Monster Hunter expansion. The base game is always simpler, designed to ease the players into the generation and its mechanics. I can't count a single time I've ever been particularly pressed by High rank gameplay in any Monster Hunter game. The true challenge always comes with G/Master Rank, once the foundation has already been built and Capcom can focus entirely on building the most exciting experiences with the tools they've created.

Idk I've seen some comments in this very vid, world had the same issues, for a lot of people it was there first game so there's no comparison, but as someone whos played since tri, world was also in the "easy" camp of MH titles. you specifically mention pink rathian as a wall, but I just wouldn't say it is and the double bazil and tempered kirin where like the last two quests before endgame (not counting update content) so it's a null point. and for the stuff that was "hard" in world was mostly 1-shot garbage that isn't all that fun to fight. (looking at behemoths meteor which breaks the games logic, killing you even with temporal because they had to do BS like that to keep any challenge in the first place) and before anyone says anything, I know how to deal with it and get the counter with the emote and stuff, thats not the point I'm making.
I feel strange about difficulty in rise, maybe not great for a youtube comment it's getting long as is, because I would say it's the easiest and hardest game in the series. obviously not failing quests as often is one thing, but I also hear how wirebugs trivialize the game and I can see where they're coming from, but I see it as your getting hit. the monsters have pretty challenging movesets with that mindset they arn't very punishing, so you can just get away and heal, but your getting your still getting your ass kicked from an action/fighting game sense.
The lack of an endgame is one I get, it's totally fair, granted I'm glad I had time to do other stuff after rise came out instead of being consumed like what happened with world. though it partially through stuff like rotating events quests (hated it in tri, and I still dont like it here) and weekly bonuses like some MMO, it works but in all the wrong ways. I would like to add if they balanced the game better and element was good there would have been more weapons and sets to make and stuff, a temporary solution maybe but it's something. chasing deco's worked in keeping me and I assume many players playing, but it was abysmal with how crucial certain ones can be for set building. The endgame was great for streamers as an infinite content sink, but as someone who wanted to play, grinding tempered Val Hazak 1000 times was a chore. I liked the guiding lands far better though I can't say I did a ton of grinding in it, I was burned out by worlds grind.
Also forlorn arena is an arena, locale is a pretty generous name for it.
I'm hyped for sunbreak though, gameplay was the best part of rise, hopefully we can see some challenge here with G/master rank, and sorry for the long comment.

    • @ashfields9273
      @ashfields9273 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Dude I read all that and you have one of the most nuanced take. As for me, difficult = can i complete the quest?
And that's the main problem with Rise as opposed to previous games. From a "fighting/action" perspective, yes it's harder, but what's the point if there's no punishment? As a lance main, where it takes ages to sheathe my weapon, wirefall is basically a free quick sheathe, whereas in previous games I had to watch in terror as my hunter sheathes his lance just waiting to be smacked before i can chug a potion. With wirefall? Insta sheathe, mega potion, and boom! All damage negated.
I agree from an action perspective is harder, but what if we turn on God mode? It's still harder because you get smacked more often, but you can never die, which defeats the purpose. But otherwise i think i agree with everything you just said

    • @UkazutoX
      @UkazutoX 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ashfields9273 yeah, that's why I said it's the easiest and hardest at the same time. and if malzeno is an indication of what we'll get Im pretty excited, the bloodblight is great for limiting healing, reducing the issue of wirebug and heal, plus alot of follow-ups to punish wirebug spam in general. Good damage making multiple mistakes in a row actually matter, good stuff. Granted demo fights like that are usually tuned up which is sad, I love it as is, with 50 mins, food buffs, better upgraded armor, ect. you wont need to sweat excesively to beat him so hopefully they leave his damage as is.
Also should probably say it's easy to get caught up in world vs rise, new vs old gens arguments and just to be clear I love world and rise, both games are fantastic in their own way. Theres things I miss about the older games and all that, but theres also things im glad are a part of the past. My initial comment is more a reaction to opinions I've seen since even world came out and I feel theres a "missing the forest through the trees" situation around alot of it and this seemed like a good place to put some of those thoughts.
I think your difficulty reading is fine, but theres certainly a scale, great jaggi isn't as difficult as nergigante even though I can clear both for example and thanks for reading it, though sorry I ended up writing another book.

I can get hyped for Rise regardless of difficulty because I've fundamentally changed how I play Monster Hunter.
In the original PS2 game, you had a lot of options for building monster-based weapons, but you also had a lot of bone and iron stuff which was a lot easier to make. Sure they technically underperformed, but the lack of grinding required to get them (rusted weapons notwithstanding) more than made up for the time lost during longer hunts. Based on that model, I came up with a few rules for myself that have dramatically improved my experiences within the series:
    1. Only use weapons based on iron, bone, or small monsters.
    2. Only complete each quest once.
    3. Every quest in a Star Level must be completed before doing the associated Urgent Quest and advancing to the next level.
These rules provide a few key benefits:
    1) Hunts become more difficult, which means learning a monster's movements and engaging them accordingly becomes a lot more important.
    2) Because there's no grinding involved, the average player will actually have time to complete every quest.
    3. The player has to engage with even the most "tedious" or "difficult" hunts if they are to progress, helping to improve the variety of gameplay the player will experience.

Rise being disappointing is an understatement. I can't even say I like it. I like PARTS of it, but the complete lack of challenge and progression made me not just quit the game at the end of the story, but also feel like I wasted my time during the story because I thought I was suffering through the boring parts to get to the good stuff in the endgame... but that never came, and the only challenging content in the game is pointless to do (apex) due to not giving any kind of reward that feeds into the endgame loop.
Rise made World look like a hardcore Monster Hunter game which is hilarious considering World in itself is a massive step down from 4U.

Early game walls are important. It forces you to engage in systems like upgrades, as well as forcing you to LEARN something. Zinogre is infamously aggressive and on older titles where hunters were slower it would require a significant fighting style adjustment as compared to lazy fights like Arzuros. You HAD to get through G. Jaggi to get to Zinogre to get to Nergi to get to G rank, etc. Along the way you pick up techniques and knowledge that are required for the game to even have engaging boss design.
Old school Barioth taught me the importance of breaking parts which was vital in harder fights. How did I learn this? By swinging for his head and hitting the wings on accident. After several failed hunts getting wrecked by his speed I broke a wing. I immediately see a topple and later notice his dashes are slower. There was no tutorial popup. The lesson was completely natural. That fight was the first time I got him to the nest. I killed him the very next attempt. The new games simply cannot replicate that experience. They are too easy.

I am starting to buy into the idea that we were never meant to fight Apex's outside of Rampages, we got them outside of the Rampage because we wanted to actually fight them, so if Apex's are connected to the Rampage and many people enjoy their fights but hate the lack of armour and weapons... now, what's the closest thing to Apex's that we have?
Deviants... the Apex's are basically Deviants with a different name, all they'd need to do is rework some of their moves (like their "destroy the gate" attacks) change their appearance's a bit and boom, Deviants in Sunbreak!
And they can explain why we couldn't fight them before by saying "only Master Rank hunters are authorised to hunt the Deviants, they are just that dangerous!"

My theory on the endgame problems in Rise is that the dev team had a lot more planned but had to cut stuff to release in time because of the pandemic leading to slower, more constrained development. My main reasoning for this is the fact that the actual ending to the story and the Elder Dragons weren't released until the first title update, which just seems like something they wouldn't have done if they had time. Any leftover ideas they may have had will probably show up in Sunbreak. I'm extremely excited, the combat in Rise is so much fun I just want an excuse to put another 300 hours in.

And I would also say there is a huge difference between playing Rise singleplayer and multiplayer. I'm not gonna assume how you played the game, but playing with my a full part of 4, we hit a LOT of nice walls while playing thru Rise, and it definitely made it fun to finally beat that monster that was giving us trouble.

Do the lower rank regular Rise monsters also have the new moves with Sunbreak installed, or are these new moves only present in master rank monsters?

I have low expectations but hopefully this will turn out great for me. I didn't enjoy Rise as much as the other games, so sadly, I am in the same boat. I feel like I'm not done with Rise, but it is done with me. It has nothing left to give. Hopefully, Sunbreak will give me the expansion, and then more.

As someone who spent a bit of time with Rise and then felt like, "I guess I'm done with Monster Hunter..." This is heartening news. Rise just felt like an appetizer for a game that didn't exist.
Edit: The Title Updates really highlighted how Rise was basically launched early to make it into that previous fiscal year.

It be that way sometimes. I felt the same when World launched, but here I am years later! World grew on me over the years as I gave it more chances, PC performance & mods let me solve some of my glaring major issues, and even though it's not my *personal* favorite MonHun, it's still a great MonHun game.

@@Viotech3 I will probably have to wait on Sunbreak on PC. I don't want to deal with Switch load times, but they are using Denuvo again and it made Iceborne unplayable for my PC for months until they eventually removed it. It makes my PC like... seize up for 5 seconds at a time, which both sucks when you're in the middle of a fight, but also desyncs you horribly from everyone online too.

As a completely new player to the series, I agree/relate to pretty much everything except that base Rise is TOO easy. I also put about 180 hours in and felt pretty underwhelmed when I got to the current endgame, and didn't put a whole lot more into the game once I hit that point. But I do recall my partner and I (I played most of the Hub as a duo) hitting a few road bumps along the way.
Embarrassingly enough Rathalos took us a few attempts the first encounter, and Magna wiped the floor with us for a bit too. Up until HR 6, the game felt challenging enough to keep me engaged while learning the ropes. It does kinda fall off after that until Valstrax tho, even as a baby hunter none of the elder dragons were too much trouble(I honestly think Rajang is harder except for maybe Teostra).
All in all, I was happy with Rise. It's imperfect and maybe not as gripping as previous games, but the hours I put in were fun. I'm excited to get absolutely stomped over and over in Sunbreak and hopefully hit more of those traditional MH "walls" I keep hearing about.

I've made this point quite a few times, but as a long time fan of the series (day one in NA on the old fat PS2 with the modem add-on), I'm basically out on the HR games. I just don't really enjoy them anymore. G/Master Rank games just have more of everything I want. Bigger rosters, expanded movesets and mechanics, harder fights, a fully fleshed-out endgame, etc. etc. Despite picking Rise up for both Switch and PC at launch, I basically didn't play it until a few weeks ago. I powered through LR and HR and am now just puttering around clearing the quest list and waiting for Sunbreak, which I'm quite excited for.
This is something I've been feeling since at least Tri, although World was so exactly tailored to what I want from MH that I was able to overcome it there. But I didn't enjoy Tri all that much, despite adoring the setting, didn't bother importing 4, and Generations was the low point of the series for me. 3U and 4U were absolutely incredible however, giving me thousands of hours of enjoyment. I largely skipped GenU because I was just really out on Hunter Arts and World was already on the horizon.

I don't need ultra hard quests , I want to have fun hunting. If i want my quests to be more difficult I use a weapon I'm not used to or try new ones. The lack of content sadly was a problem.

I think Sunbreak is a “we apologize” gift for the things that were left out. That’s why Ithey’re going in guns blazing with the monster roster, and balance changes.

    • @Gayhan-

They don’t have to apologize for anything. They did all they could with a lot of unexpected challenge and still delivered a great game

Apologize? What a silly take. They tried something new, some things worked, some didn't. They learned. They don't "owe" us an apology.

@@TonyJenn Not saying that unique features were bad, I just felt like how they approached the release of rise. Like. For example the release of the Three elder dragons and the all mother felt like it should’ve been with the base game of rise. Although the combat of rise was amazing, there was little replay-ability. I do feel like this roster is definitely more packed than Iceborne. My comment was bad wording though I will admit.

Even though I think that MH Rise is objectively a lot shorter than other MH games, I think that the content is actually a lot more balanced.
In MH World after 170 hours, I had literally this feeling that I didn't do anything, because it was slow on so many things (chaotic maps, slow movements and a lot of missing QoL updates that made me grind more for less).
In MH Rise I am 80 hours in...and I feel like I had SO MUCH fun and the game was a constant blast, without dead times and/or frustration, where as with MH World I had many moments, where I just felt frustrated because the game had many BS monsters I just didn't want to fight but had to.

There is a new armor skill that will regenerate wirebugs upon hitting a scroll switch parry. Oh yeah and it turns your scroll switch into a parry. Nuts.

It's very common for monster hunter to feel something lacking before heavy amounts of title updates/Expansion.
But once HR/G rank is introduced via expansion or "Ultimate" Versions. That's where everything starts fitting together.
I stopped at the 150+ hour mark. (Considering I put over 800 in TRI and over 1000 in mh4u)
150 hours is nothing. I have alot of confidence. That Sunbreak will fix this. And that they will support this game for a while via title updates.
