What a cool observation about the keese eye... Very INSIGHTFUL. :D
You're right, that implication of the bat eye having THAT kind of effect is incredibly interesting and bodes well for the kind of creativity we may be able to expect from this feature. Imagine what the horns, teeth of other parts from that dragon may be capable of. :) This sort of crafting seems like it could be exactly what I WISHED I had back when I played the first game. On Eventide Island it just felt like the solutions to conflicts were just handed to you in the form of what you found laying around, because you couldn't do this sort of crafting.
Something I wonder is if we'll be able to build standalone things that can maybe operate remotely in some way like traps. Perhaps Link can use a power that connects to an object like Magnesis, but to activate it instead. Seems like they'd do that for puzzles already, and if so, it'd open up a hell of a lot of options. :)

I think there is actual evidence of craftable normal weapons.
in the 1st official trailer, right around 1:00, you can see an axe weapon on link's back (he is climbing the side of a sky island when he's holding it). the handle for this axe is white, maybe made out of bone or some white rock.
in the recent trailer, at 1:07 - 1:09, you can see one of the flying enemies carrying a bokoblin, and the bokoblin is holding a weapon, with the same axe head, but with a different handle.
I believe this indicates that the handle and the axe head are two seperate items, and that eenemies/link will be able to combine them using some sort of crating system.

I've played games with craftable weapons, and it's a cool mechanic and all, but I am a filthy casual, and tend to prefer when a game takes care of the weapons for me.
Dark Souls had many types of titanite shards which could be annoying for someone like me, but at least the weapon was always that weapon and I knew what I was in for beause I could use it and it was a matter of finding the farming method for that type of shard.
My hope for this system is that when said weapon breaks (cause why would Nintendo not do that at this point) that it can be repaired and maybe upgradedand strengthened. I wouldn't want crafting weapons to be just for when you run out of other weapons, but I have to admit, it would be an improvement.
It's clear these weapons will provide some much needed variety which is a welcome addition.

I am convinced - enemy weapons might be infused with Malice - that when the enemy dies consumes the weapon - because with more of a mind behind it all Ganondorf knows to not let weapons fall into this Links hands. so we make due by crafting our own weapons.
AND I think that Links Maliced arm will serve as to why his weapons degrade this time around. meaning cleansing ourselves of malice means the degradation becomes less as we "level up". akin to a bigger inventory with korok seeds except the weapons themselves become more durable instead.
one more thing I'd like to add is that if you can craft at specific locations then you can probably repair weapons as well (by using up those crafting consumables) for the weapons you like.

To build off of that idea of enemies not dropping weapons, it could also let items come back by just making them weapons in link’s inventory. Make them like master sword where you can’t throw away the weapon. Items like the hammer, boomerang, and the elemental rods could become important items for link by just making them act like permanent weapons in his inventory and designing puzzles around them. I don’t think that the game will go this direction but it’s cool to think about

It might, though I'm still a bit skeptical over how much of an improvement this would be over the current system. Not that I doubt they could pull it off, but in the scenario that weapons shatter just as easily as they have in the first game, how exactly would crafting weapons be any more convenient that simply taking them from enemies or finding them in the wild? Killing a bokoblin to fashion a spear out of its remains currently just seems like snatching a spear from their hands with extra steps.

    • @petercottantail7850
      @petercottantail7850 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's a little worse than that because you also need the handle and probably something else to complete the crafting process. So you have to do even more steps than just go to menu and craft.
I want to say they ditch breaking completely but the concept of restricting the player from being stronger than the area explored is the issue.
Hopefully crafted weapons will restrict how strong a weapon can be in the first place so breaking wont be needed and just crafting a new weapon as an upgrade, but that's a stretch to assume they would give us a crafting system and actually let you only have to craft 1 thing and never engage with it again.
Even tho that would be good game design the fact they forced weapon breaking in botw means they will probably force crafting tons of things. We can see the rusty weapons the enemies use so that tells me everything will break and those are the emergency use weapons.
So with how bad it is looking my optimistic viewpoint is we can finally have the ability to repair the weapons to keep them from breaking since we're making them in the first place. And finding better wood or metals to make better durability to ease the process even more so we can actually keep a weapon for way more than 10 minutes.

  • @AnAmericanMusician

Yes, thank God! Monster parts will now finally have a use outside of outfit upgrades and being sold.
Also, I'm replaying BOTW right now, and I think the weapon durability HAS to change because nothing lasts for more than an encounter and a half. I just don't think melee weapons are well suited as expendable resources, especially if there's no way to upgrade them, repair them, or just make them yourself. So I'm really hoping all this speculation is accurate.

I mean I wouldn't call it definitive evidence, it could merely be a coincidence... but really the most notable evidence I feel is the monster horns literally being shaped like weapon heads. Everything else is sort of iffy, and could very easily just be unrelated to craftable weapons, but the horn thing makes it a lot more likely.

If not weapon crafting, we at least need a weapon repair/maintenance system like Witcher 3, Fallout, Metro, etc. Just have it require some flint and oil and we're good. Hopefully this means the weapons we find in shrines will be more unique, not just copies of stuff in the open world sometimes with worse stats

Maybe trough the crafting syestem is how we're gonna get traditional dungeon items (or something similar). That flamethrower could be something from a miniboss, and you make gear with it, or attach to existing gear.
I can see traditional zelda items working similar to Sekiro prosthetic tools, where they are not mandatory, but can be make a lot of fights or other situations much easier or more enjoyable.
So basically you'd be able to approach the game just using regular weapons, which could be more challenging, or craft unique items/tools and figure out clever ways to use them.

I kind of hope his arm has some form of effect which triggers explosives when the energy touches the explosive, so you could maybe use an energy dart to trigger an explosive (kind of like the lightning from bioshock?) , but it also means you cant use the homing arrow with the explosive augments as link charges the homing arrow. Also maybe the magic effect will turn the monster parts back on (like an electrical impulse) which temporarily revives that part, allowing the effects to work (as an explanation to the magic effect and each monster parts usage).

    What about crafting vehicles?
Perhaps the blacksmiths in each town could offer Carpentry to let you 3D model (with wooden blocks and planks) a boat/car like the one seen in the trailer. You could find parts in the wild or buy them (at a premium) from the Carpenter
One of the blacksmith/carpenter combos could be Talon and his Luigi-like brother

This was the exact thing i predicted almost exactly wow! I thought so too, especially seeing how basic lots of the enemies weapons are.
Also, in botw there isn’t a single one handed axe like the one that red bokoblin was holding. Every axe is a heavy weapon. It could just be a new one handed variation.
Personally, I don’t think breakable weapons are leaving. I think theres the possibility that powerful but breakable weapons exist. But i think collecting stuff will actually have a bigger impact now.
Something interesting to note, for all the enemies we see different weapon variants on their heads. But we dont see any bows. Although the keese eye for the arrow might add to the fact that flying enemies will upgrade bow stuff.
If thats the case then storage upgrade might be changed completely since we dont need to hold multiple weapons all the time. We might even get some sort of chest to keep stuff in.
The zelda team has always listened to feedback. The reason its never fully seen is because they always change up each game significantly. And MM was a while ago. I think its extremely likely that the weapon system is significantly revamped in some way.

Some materials may contribute to the durability of an item. There was a duability enhancement effect equipment could have in BotW, so we may be able to effectively add that, though hopefully not at too much expense to other factors you may want. The base materials could also greatly affect durability as well.

    Crackpot non-serious theory time!:
Its interesting that you're using the green power coming off of your prosthetic to power these weapons, since they seem to be weapons that correspond to MONSTROUS being and powers in particular.
We also saw that a hand likethat was holding Ganondorf's corpse in place, and Zelda was asking ~something~ to give Link their power.
Thus i propose this theory: Your arm and powers are those that once belonged to Ganondorf. That voice from the trailer directing the monsters was not Ganondorf's but was actually Demise, who is currently piloting Ganondorf's body and is the true source of all the Malice. Ganondorf has thusly used the last of his power he has for himself to rebel against the influence of Demise, by imbuing it into Link, thus granting Link some modicum of his power over Monsters and their parts and nature.
Again, this is not a serious theory, but its a fun one.

I really hope that instead of crafting using a menu, they make you actually have to connect items in game. The green glue shown on cars already seems it’s made this way, so I hope the weapons are the same. So like dropping down a shield, putting a dragon head on it, and having it become a makeshift fire shield.
