How to Set Up California CA DMV Wallet App

- In this video, I'll be showing you step-by-step how to download and set up the California DMV Wallet app on your smartphone. Mine is an iPhone, but it should be very much the same for an Android phone.
This app allows you to store your California driver's license or ID card digitally on your smartphone. It has limited usage. The remaining of the paragraph below are from dmv.ca.gov:
At this time (Sept 2023), you have to continue to carry your physical driver’s license or state-issued ID card. Law enforcement, state government agencies, and businesses aren’t yet accepting the mDL. There are many participating airports across the United States. Usage is not tracked, and no data leaves your device without your consent. The mDL provides accurate, secure proof of identity to the businesses you interact with and lowers the potential for fraud and identity theft.
However, it's a free and convenient way to prove your identity and age when you need to. Look for more benefits at the website.
*Steps*
1. Download the CA DMV Wallet app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
2. Launch the app and log in to your MyDMV account.
3. Follow the instructions to scan your physical driver's license or ID card.
4. Take a selfie.
5. Review your information and confirm that it's accurate.
6. Tap "Submit" to enroll in the CA DMV Wallet pilot program.
*Once you've enrolled, you'll be able to access your mobile driver's license (mDL) in the app. You can use your mDL to prove your identity and age at participating businesses and organizations.*
*Here are some of the places where you can use your mDL:*
* TSA PreCheck® at select airports
* Convenience stores in Sacramento
* Other businesses and organizations that are participating in the pilot program
*Tips*
* Make sure that your smartphone is in good condition and that the camera is working properly.
* Scan your physical driver's license or ID card in a well-lit area.
* Take a clear and well-lit selfie.

This is very cool. Arizona has one as well called "AZ Mobile ID"...I wish more states get on board with this, there's a handful of them, but New York and some large ones are missing!

3:16 The scroll down was not working for me because of my display settings (to make everything appear larger). I had to set display to normal size for scroll to work.

I noticed that like me you had trouble selecting start on the screen that lets you take a picture of your DL. How did you get around that the screen does not stay scrolled down long enough to tap on the start button?
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I had trouble with it. I believe the top part of the word “Start” was enough for me to touch it. Or I kept scrolling up to be able to touch it. I’m certain the app makers know this issue and will update it soon. We hope.
@@TossSong I found the solution in the reviews on the App store -- to reduce the size of text in Settings/Display.

Before watching, is it for the driver license only, or can you add your real id to it?

Hi, thanks for your comment. This app is still in seemingly an Alpha stage. I’m certain they will update and rid of bugs to improve very soon. We may have to wait just a bit.

Hi, it’s possible that older phones may not be compatible (my guess is about 6 or more years old). I don’t know that for sure. *Or you could wait for their update, I’m guessing a week or two.
My selfie is always failing
Hi, thanks for reaching out. I would recommend try it in another location, with proper lighting. Or keep trying, and move your head according to the instructions.
@@TossSongmine wouldn’t even go through. Every time I would select start for my selfie the app would automatically drop and I would have to redo entering my license again
Hi, thanks for reaching out. I’m not sure why. Try to turn off and on and try again. Also reduce the text size if you can’t reach any buttons. Let me know.
