    *The key change from the video is that the DMV now advises always making an appointment; otherwise, you'll need to stand in the non-appointment line for walk-ins.*
    The Express Experience mentioned in the video was initiated by the DMV during the pandemic when in-office appointments were scarce. Although the DMV no longer promotes this express service, you can still upload documents online during the REAL ID application before your DMV visit, to streamline the process. Whether you upload documents during the online application or not, you must bring the physical documents to the DMV to complete the application process. Making an appointment is recommended for access to a shorter line.
    DMV DRIVERS LICENSE APPLICATION ::: Part 1 of our 5-part series where we’ll hold your hand and walk you through the ENTIRE DMV permit process, start to finish. Instructor Liz will give you a detailed breakdown of everything you need to do to earn a learner's permit, from taking drivers education and dealing with the DMV, all the way to passing your knowledge test and what you need to do after you take home your permit.

    Does the express service option also give you access to fly anywhere in the U.S. Since its real ID or how does that work? Does the normal appointment also give you the same drivers card?

      Hello! The REAL ID is what gives you the ability to fly within US. When you make your appointment, just make sure you specify "Drivers License" as the reason for you visit and select the REAL ID option when given the choice. Thanks!

      Excellent question and you are correct! Per the CA DMV: If you are at least 17½ years old, you may obtain a permit without completing driver education or driver training. However, you cannot get a DL before you are 18 years old. (www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/special-section-minors/) Hope that helps!

      Hello! When you went through the online application, there should have been a screen that asked you the reason for your visit to the DMV. If you selected "drivers license", then you should be good to go! If you are not sure, an easy way to confirm is using the "Ask DMV" feature on the DMV website, it's very easy and a live person will help you. Here's what you do:
      1) Go to www.dmv.ca.gov/
      2) Click "Ask DMV" link on the bottom of the screen
      3) In the question box, type "rep"
      You can then speak to a DMV agent over chat and they can look up you appointment and answer your question with 100% accuracy. This option is actually pretty fast. Hope that helps!!

    • @DriversEdDirect
      @DriversEdDirect  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, great question! It really depends on what kind of drivers license you want, it's up to you! A REAL ID Drivers License allows you to fly within the US, while a standard drivers license does not allow you to fly within the US. The application process is pretty similar for both a REAL ID DL and standard DL, but for a REAL ID you need to show a little more documentation, like 2 residency documents. The documents required are covered in part 2 of this series: th-cam.com/video/wqpGGfME_2s/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!

    As a parent, I never got the option to sign during the application process but it seems that my application went through. however, after I hit "submit" it says that my child needs to have their parent sign. Again, there's no place during the application process to sign. Do you know if this means I'll be signing at the DMV during my appointment? I just don't want to get rejected at my appointment.

    • @DriversEdDirect
      @DriversEdDirect  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! Yes, you should be able to sign the DL44 form when you physically go to the DMV with your child. If you have split-custody of your child, you will also need the signature of the other parent.
      If you want to be 100% sure that you won't be turned away, you can call the DMV at 1-800-777-0133 OR start a chat with them here: www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/contacting-dmv/ - just click on "Ask DMV" button in the bottom-right corner of the screen - I personally like the chat option, and I recommend that you request to chat with a live person. From my experience, most of the chat support specialists at the DMV are very helpful and you'll get your question answered within a few short minutes!
      With that said, as long as you go to the DMV and sign the form in person, you should be fine.
      Please let us know how it goes so we can learn from your experience, thank you!

    I have a question. Does the California drivers Ed certificate (blue or pink) expire within 1 year? Cause my older brother told me like 7-10 years ago when he got his drivers Ed certificate he told me that it expires within a year that’s what he heard of from a classmate.

    • @DriversEdDirect
      @DriversEdDirect  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello, great question and a gray area for sure! From our years of experience with the DMV, they do not give students any issues when the pink/blue cert is over a year old. It's also worth noting that is no expiration date listed on the drivers ed pink/blue cert. However, we have also heard from some DMVs that drivers ed certs are only supposed to be good for a year. I think the confusion at the DMV comes with the actual learners permit itself, which does expire a year after you apply for it. But having a year-old pink drivers ed cert shouldn't cause problems.
      For the most definitive answer, you could ask the DMV directly. If so, here's what I would suggest:
      1) Go to www.dmv.ca.gov/
      2) Click "Ask DMV" link on the bottom of the screen

If your parent does not have a DMV account, then they will need to create one. Hello, you will need to fill out an ID application to get your permit/license. If you already have an ID card, there may be an option for you just to convert that to a drivers license without having to go through the entire application process again, but I would recommend contacting the DMV for more information. Hope that helps!

      @DriversEdDirect Do you need to pre register to do the drivers ed course, or can you do it before? I'm in colorado by the way. Thank you!

    where is the section for my parents to sign? I can't find it in the Driver's License and ID Application

      During the online driver’s license application, there is a page you will encounter called "Guardian Required" - this screen comes up right after they ask you about "Organ & Tissue Donation". Here you will have the choice to have your Parent/Guardian sign the application electronically or in person at the DMV. If your choose "My parent/guardian(s) will sign electronically", then your parent can just enter their name, address, and telephone number to sign the application online. If you prefer, they can choose to not sign electronically, and then you will just have them sign the application in person when they take you to the DMV for your permit test.
      Hope that helps!

    You can only have 1 REAL ID card at a time. If you wish to have a REAL ID DL but have a REAL ID ID card you must cancel your REAL ID ID card and change it to a Federal Limits ID trcard, then you can have a REAL ID DL.
