I really like how you're reviewing and upgrading these more "budget freindly" cars, and showing that you don't have to spend $$$ to have fun with RCs! A lost of channels promote these high-end Arrma, Traxxas, ect. cars and don't talk much about these cheaper cars. Good job Richie!

These WL cars are insane!!!! I am getting the 124019 buggy and I feel like as soon as people start to really take notice of how great these cars are the prices are going to go up....I am a traxxas guy but for the prices that some of these companies are asking for their cars and trucks you could get triple of WL cars or trucks the 124019 buggy is built like a tank!!!!! WL is making a strong name for themselves or should I say number lol PLEASE start putting names on these cars WL!!!! 👍 awesome review as always ✌
I can sense the excitement, just as I did when I first opened up my package! 😉 I think the car feels and looks amazing. My suspension did feel like it did have oil in them though, atleast it felt really nice and smooth! Can't wait to take it for a first test run!
I’m still a bit surprised they don’t have a brushless option. Maybe that’s why they are preparing for with the drive shaft. Version 2.0 is just around the corner maybe
The tires on the 144001 (which I have) are staggered widths, the front tires are 25mm wide and the rears are 30mm wide, I've heard that this is common for buggies.
The two points that hit me, adjusting ride height, didnt look like the droop screw mod would work. Also the battery tray looked small to me that might limit things a bit. It does look fun and at that price point hard to pass up. Almost everything in the under 200.00 range is worth a look.
I've said this in a previous video but if you want to make your speedrun cars go faster, you need to 1. Close off the wheels. 2. Use ceramic bearings if you aren't already. 3. Lower the springs. 4. Use a motor fan or at least a heatsink, it will allow the motor to run cooler and so you can gear it up a bit. 5. Less downforce, more speed (but you still need some downforce to keep it one the ground) 6. You could use fins to stabilise it at high speed.
Damn good video, mate! And pretty obvious that this would make a nice addition to anyone’s collection. Looking forward to seeing a part II to this video after you’ve put it through it’s paces. Again, great video.
I understand your logic about the separate center shafts suggesting a possible center diff, but I don’t think that’s the reason. The solid center shaft on the 144001 is easily bent in a head-on crash, while the LC EMB with its dogbones doesn’t have that problem. I think the decision in the 104001 was made for durability and ease of maintenance. What I would like to see instead of a differential is a slipper clutch!
Seems like everytime i get a new rc.somebody make another i would like to have.will get this one seeing how it more open.my 124018 runs hot .lots of body drilling to let air in
What about a receiver for that out her wl 1/12 buggies I thi k it's the L929 not the 1/24 but the 1/12 came brushless with a standard receiver that should work with the wl transmitter
Good to see you have yours as well Richie! Its slow out the box but with a brushless system can really see this becoming lively! The steering is incredibly smooth which is one of the things i liked about it when i reviewed it and the best i have seen so far on a WLTOYS. Great vid as usual mate and looking forward to seeing what you do with it! 😎👍
Hey I've been catching up on yours over the past couple of days. That steering is 4-500% improved and as you say super smooth! I've a couple of brushless systems to test in it, any thoughts on tires? I'd like some foams around the same size and not have to fit 1/10 saloon ones on.
@@DriftomaniacsRC i have been looking about for a decent set of off road 1/10 tires but not looked into on road stuff or foams will continue the search and let you know if i come across anything decent . Interested to see where you go with this no doubt it will be very quick!!
Just a heads up I had one and blew the rear diff gears then they sent me another and within 3 charges of the battery the second blew idk what to do I liked the car but the siff issues suck
Lol you are joking right? Only thing you can adjust on this is the camber. No toe or squat adjustment, no slipper or center diff, all of the metal parts are made of a cheap alloy. For $250 you can buy an amazing Losi kit. Brand new.
@@DimiS1978 there is nothing stopping WLToys from implimenting those changes in the future. Their cars are cheaper knockoffs of LC Racing cars that have those features in them. They could also make them brushless and sell them for less than the $250 losi kit price, but remember, this is a 4WD kit. The Losi 22X-4 is a $500 kit.
I went straight to brushless, 3650 4300kv, Hobbywing SC8-RTR 120A, and a 20G servo. Also greased diffs they had none. Went back to stock gears and very smooth good ratio for brushless. Taking out today, build and access is excellent. Now it's a 300 dollar car.
Looks awesome! I know it jumps really good too but I’d rather have a kit or roller version as any upgrades to the servo or ESC will require a whole new radio system. Also, that battery compartment seems too small for a normal size lipo which means runtimes will be shorter than a typical 1/10 car with a 5000mah or bigger battery. It’s not very fast in stock form and the chassis has some flex which might cause issues. I’d have to change out the tires for the cement where I drive and if I upgrade the electronics it’ll be comparable in price to some non budget brands. It’s a tough sell for me but I still wouldn’t mind having one because it looks really nice.
Love Richies enthusiasm!😊 Also love wltoys, but don't really see the point in a 1/10th scale, heavy, slow brushed buggy in 2021 though🙈 The smaller wltoys work great out of the box, but 1/10th scale needs brushless. A lot less wastefull to just buy one of the many other cheap brushless or rolling chassis kits in the 1/10th segment instead of converting this one.
In the future wltoys made a 1/5 scale also you don't have to change the servo just change the wires and circuit boards and solder it and there is not that hard
@@DriftomaniacsRC I'm happy about that, wheels would have been really tough to find. I think if I build a Speedrunner from the 104001 I'll get 17mm hexes fitted on it to run 1/8th foams. Think the 124019 would do well with 1/8 th foams, but they don't look right, little big. I thought about putting dboots on mine, but it looked ridiculous. I may end up looking ridiculous if that's the only to reach goal. Think about it though, your laying the power down when it flips, instead of getting upset that it's upside down, just hit reverse and keep going, lol
Traxxas and Arrma make great entry level bashers, that's why they're so popular. This Wltoys is not a basher, it's not a racer either, it's just a cheap RC. It's a terrible choice as an entry level RC because there's no parts support, no warranty or customer service support, and no good upgrade paths. If you want to upgrade one electronic you have to upgrade all of them because of its funky ESC/receiver combo and 5 wire servo. Also the battery tray is really small for a 1/10th scale so you won't be able to fit standard size 2s/3s lipos, you'll have to search for small sized lipos with small capacity. It's good as a 2nd or 3rd RC for enthusiasts, but it'll never be someone's main rig.
Or you could do like most of us do and simply remove the 2/4 screws holding the battery tray down and fit in a standard size pack. It's not hard to do. Oh and the 2200mah pack it comes with lasts for 20mins, how long does a cheap arrma or traxxas one last? 12-14? No parts upgrades? No good upgrade paths? You should research some of the latest wltoys cars. My 124019 hit 100mph on just 2S, which cars in the arrma and traxxas range can you upgrade to hit 100mph on 2s? Please post a link to them here if you don't mind. Clearly the Wltoys 144001 missed you. The worlds changing fast.....cheap RC cars? It's like there's a pandemic on...Oh and don't the budget arrma's have a combined esc/rx as well? Although the budget traxxas ones don't do they?
@@DriftomaniacsRC Wow I must've struck a nerve with you, didn't realize you're a Wltoys fanboy lol. Like I said it's a good 2nd or 3rd RC for enthusiasts, but it's a terrible choice as a first RC. If you want to upgrade one electronic, you have to upgrade them all. Yeah the Arrma Granite Voltage is also a poor choice as a first RC, but at least it's a competent basher. So what if your Wltoys can go 100mph on 2S, that's meaningless to a newbie in the hobby, that's not what they're looking for in a first RC. What they're looking for is a good all around basher, good local parts support, good customer service, and easy upgradability. Wltoys has none of that, that's why Traxxas and Arrma have nothing to worry about.
I wonder if WLtoys will make a 1/8th scale version...😂😂....before you know it, I'll be asking for a 1/5th scale version in 4-6 years. Unlikely, I know, but I hope it's a "you also and you shall receive" thing
AAH how is everyone getting them and mine hasn't shipped? T.T I ordered on the 6th or so. Also 104001 is 10th scale, 4wd, model 001. That naming follows on all their cars, at least all I can think of. Associated does a similar thing.

It does not live up to the hype it is slow. No grease in the diffs and I broke one of the front drive shaft after one jump into the grass. The 7 minutes of run time is also a let down.
Excellent review! However I do not see the point of 104001 hype. It feels like a downgrade compared to 124019. Maybe when they release a brushless version I will buy one.
✌🏻😎🏴Im open minded too but If it’s the same grades of metal & plastic they usually use, I don’t want it. If they have upgraded them to a better grade I may actually try one. I will keep an eye out for more videos. You should do more stock testing 1st before upgrading to brushless. You instantly changed the price from 150 to what ever your new cost is with the upgrade. Like i have said before. Cheap doesn’t stay cheap for long. Bangnotsogood sucks & Wltoys suck. Keep your 150 & put it towards something else until you can confirm they have upgraded the grades of metal & plastics they use.
I hate this why why why I got that car!!! The “match” and it leaked oil from the difs and shocks ... the gears striped and the esc melted... Then I stole the gears from my 144001 and also the esc ran it on 2s and the whole thing caught fire 🔥! 😒 when I went threw the burnt rubble half the monkey metal screws had bent! Mind you I never crashed or even bashed this car all I did was a speed run!!! (😡 I want a refund... ) Don’t listen to this crap! I have nothing wrong with this TH-camr just the info he is giving... These XK cars will never make the same sales any traxxas or arrma car is getting... plus my biggest complaint besides the car fricken burning is how long the shipping takes not just for this car. But when something breaks (Because it will) it takes 2 weeks for a part from Banggood also they have no warranty or customer service! I will always buy I car I can get parts for from my hobby store such as a traxxas car than wait for banggod to screw up my order! DO NOT BUY THIS!!!! ITS A RIP OFF ALMOST TO THE POINT OF A SCAM!!!
Much larger buggy than its Wltoys predicessors but with a small battery compartment considering its a larger size car. Also a lot of wasted space behind the motor, no provision for droop screws either.
I did notice the lack of droop screws and I'd meant to mention that but forgot, much appreciate you raising that poing. Battery tray easy to remove though!
@@DriftomaniacsRC The problem with getting a larger battery in is not the tray size, but getting a longer & wider battery in due to the center spur assembly being in the way.
WLToys doesn’t develop anything. They clone everything. 144001- is a dumbed down clone of LC racing EMB 124019- is a dumbed down clone of LC Racing Lc12B1 104001- is a dumbed down clone of the LC10B5.
Awesome! There’s a new Traxxas slash body coming out next week! New colors $10 more but the new colors add 5 mph. Of course you having a good job and not being affected by COVID have thought about the people who’d like a good rc but don’t have $300 to spend as they’re busy feeding their family but sure you thought about that before posting your comment and winding up the people who love rc but have taken a kicking through COVID. But hey if you don’t spend money on masks then more to spend on rc cars right? Guess it wouldn’t kill you to think of others....
@@DriftomaniacsRC didn’t wind anyone up but you. You said develop. At least give credit where it’s due before promoting clones. WLToys and most of China Products just rip off other companies. The least you could do is give the company that actually developed the products some much do recognition.
"Optional spur and pinion". WLToys needs to go to separate electrical components and not the infamous all-in-one. Banggood needs to ship more RC stuff to their non-Chinese warehouses. Waiting 3 MONTHS for orders is terrible!! Are you listening Banggood?!!!!!!! Would you be so giddy if you didn't get it for FREE?

I will keep an eye out for more videos. You should do more stock testing 1st before upgrading to brushless. You instantly changed the price from 150 to what ever your new cost is with the upgrade. Like i have said before. Cheap doesn’t stay cheap for long. Bangnotsogood sucks & Wltoys suck. Keep your 150 & put it towards something else until you can confirm they have upgraded the grades of metal & plastics they use.
Lol the 1/14 scale was pretty quick…. The 12 scale was a bit faster….. and the 10 scale just fell off 🥲
I hate this why why why I got that car!!! (😡 I want a refund... )
Don’t listen to this crap!
Btw I love this TH-cam channel keep up the great reviews I just really hate everything from XK-WLtoys!!!
i love your accent lol
Much larger buggy than its Wltoys predicessors but with a small battery compartment considering its a larger size car. Also a lot of wasted space behind the motor, no provision for droop screws either.
I did notice the lack of droop screws and I'd meant to mention that but forgot, much appreciate you raising that poing. Battery tray easy to remove though!
@@DriftomaniacsRC The problem with getting a larger battery in is not the tray size, but getting a longer & wider battery in due to the center spur assembly being in the way.
And they also need to work on making the diffs cnc cut gears would be awesome
sorry not beginner-friendly they are quick and the chances are u will smash it the first time out and spend ages waiting for parts to fix it
If this is 1/10 scale I am 7 feet tall
WLToys doesn’t develop anything. They clone everything.
144001- is a dumbed down clone of LC racing EMB
124019- is a dumbed down clone of LC Racing Lc12B1
104001- is a dumbed down clone of the LC10B5.
Noted BUT note arrma does that as well in the budget models, but not their biggest competitor......Traxxas!
Only one leaky shock👍 useless electronics. Is this worth the price? or buy a carbon fibre roller for 125$. Wltoys marketing is working.
