It would prevent you moving the motor again without some work but you can buy little heatpipes. If you thermal epoxy them between the motor and the chassis to improve the heat transfer, I think it would be a super effective heatsink, especially on damp ground.
I just finished my conversion on a 124019. I went with m0.8/32p gearing. I chose a traxxas 32p 34t pinion made for the UDR as my spur (TRA 5639) and a 21t pinion gear (TRA 3951). Im running a 6.5t sensored motor with a Quicrun 10BL120 esc. For the servo I chose a Savox Sw-0250. For the motor mount im using an adjustable mesh part from rcawd, I had to file quite a bit of material from the motor mount to get the spur gear clearance. I was able to keep the stock esc location, center chassis brace and the stock body with only a little bit of trimming to the brace and body. Running contact foam tires and a tired old 2200mah 2S I achieved 68mph. I suspect with a strong 3S 100mph will be possible. The car is very smooth and very stable at speed.
Awesome videos man. Thanks to you I bought this car as my first RC. Now attempting the mod 1 gear upgrade. Could you post a link to the gears you used. I ended up getting the wrong ones twice. Please help.
Hi, Nnce to see how enthusiastically you are doing this. What I always do, and certainly for things that should not come loose, is e.g. the adjustment screw / locking screw in the sprocket wheel of the drive shaft ... drill a small point / hole where the adjustment screw / locking screw is fixed and tighten this screw incl loctite 243. Your sprocket is now 100% secured.
Hey Richie Question mine 124019 arrived today everything ok! But for what is the Mode Button next to the on /off switch on the Transmitter???? Mfg Diddy
Nice one mate, that's going to be seriously quick with that new motor 😎 👍 I do my gear mod a little different now. Keeping the bearing and modifying the stock mount. The gears need to be machined to almost half the thickness to fit. By hand, very, very time consuming 😅 unless you have access to a lathe. A few guys including myself just kept braking the driveshafts on the 144001's once we done away with the centre bearing.
Thanks so much for the tip, I have actually been debating buying a mini lathe for a while now. That said I've just got a new 3D printer and I've a thought to print out a new bearing carrier to go in the middle of the car/chassis. Does anyone sell an uprated driveshaft as if you've bust one then I'm likely to! Still hot where you are? Rain's eased up here and it's getting a little warmer
@@DriftomaniacsRC a few guys have experimented with carbon shafts but haven't offered anything for sale yet. Yeah it's still hot as hell here is Brisbane I managed to get out for a test run on the weekend but couldn't get past 145kph without it skidding out of control🤔 I could work out what it was roadside but turns out the front splitter was touching down (too much downforce) when I saw the damage under the splitter I was relieved it was just a simple problem 🤞😅
Richie please help mate ! I'm a noob just getting into rc and I have a 124017v2, I'd like to know what exactly is mod 1 gearing? How come you had 2 different sized pinions but both of them were mod 1 ? How do I know? Can I only use those 2 size of pinion gears to make mod 1 or is there a certain method or calculation etc that will let me know what gears are mod 1? Please help mate as I'm lost on this point. Great video as always mate, very instructive and I'm confident I could now change the gearing I just don't know how I'd know what gears make mod1. Many thanks for any help you can give me and best of luck with the channel 👍
What battery are you running with a 3.5t 11000kv motor? I noticed it calls for 1s, I think 8.5t is the lowest that calls for 3s. I think with my twin motor setup gearing is my best option considering I'm only running 4000kv. Testing finally starts today. It's fairly easy to make the stock mounts adjustable with a dremel tool. I cut 2 stock mounts in a way that the center screw catches both halves of the mount. I can send pics if you like.
Hey richy. Love the channel. Just done the conversion but the centre brace no longer fits. What did you do to refit or do you just leave it off?? It's a speed run car so no jumping etc...
So I haven't see this channel in a while . And the lighting is sooooo much better glad you got that sorted . But your mic isn't so good in the intro. The distortion kicks in at any sound it detects. But your video is very entertaining and good with information
Brand new mic, only the 7th-8th one in 18 months....I've tried $300 ones with the same results. Got two huge led backlights behind the camera, which makes a big difference. Simply can't afford another new mic as I go for top reviewed ones and same result. I'd rather spend the money on cars as I am not a sound engineer.
I see what you mean but the grub screw is screwing on to the flat part of the shaft you could cut a flat spot in the middle of the shaft but it’d be a lot more work to move things around and there’s the body to consider as well
Hi I just changed my front diff because of a crash and when I was putting it together I twisted it to see if it sounds ok and it was a very light crunch, so I put it together 😳 and now I don’t have 4WD, what should I do to try get it back. Also I can turn more left than right, when I turn right it hits the gearbox housing, what should I do about that ? Have I set my steering up wrong ?
Love the channel. I’m yet to use mine it come the other day been but been unwell, do you think the greasing the diff is essential before I run it guys ?
Hey do u know what brushless motor and esc fits in the px toys desert journey without going through the website and ordering that junk from them Nd waiting forever
It's finding a gear that'll fit on the center shaft that's the main problem as opposed to the pitch. Also with serious brushless power mod 1 won't break or slip
@@DriftomaniacsRC Found it at same place! Hopefully it works. I have a bunch of MOD 1 pinions coming in. I got the 34, 29 for Spurs and the 19, 20, 21, 22 as pinion gears. I watched a video on how to keep the bearing without needing a lathe, hopefully itll work out when i get all the parts in.
Nice job! Wish I would have seen this two days ago when I did mine. My grub screws were stripped so I had to dremel them with a slot and use a screwdriver to get them out. I like that you addressed the different motor mounts, I was wondering how I might put different gear ratios on there.
The stock motor screws seem virtually glued in, those motors are cheap (if you've not a spare 540/550 can one already) and it's just way easier to junk the whole thing! Might seem brutal but also without a dremel or a drill you've few other options if any. Hope it all helps!
But one question I'm new to this and i have the 124019. But if you put in a gear that has less teeth on it doesn't it make rotations slower and over slow the overall initial speed of the car?
@@DriftomaniacsRC Fair enough but as an engineer for quite a few years i know that aluminium is very susceptible to corrosion, even more so when pressed up against another type of metal. The paste is to combat the corrosion but still transfer the heat through to the sink. You can also use a type of gasket for the same purpose. But any build up of ant kind between the surfaces ruins the heat conducting.
Is it really this simple? If so, why does everybody make such a big deal about having to modify the stock spur gear when upgrading to a brushless motor? It'd be much easier to just replace both gears rather than trying to modify the stock 0.7 MOD spur gear where you're limited to only that spur & pinion. Why don't people just swap to a different spur & pinion gear instead of trying to reuse to stock 27T gear that causes cogging, etc...? I've just gotten into these cars so maybe I'm missing something? It just seems logical to swap spur & pinion to a common size so you have options instead of being stuck to the stock spur and pinion gears.
