Long live the Flying V Maestro and thanks for the post! A guitar legend performing great music for his fans. Always great to see him wherever he plays. Romero is a very good singer who possesses a fine vocal range and can handle many styles of music. He would be the perfect lead singer for Michael and wish he had a longer tenure with the band.
@@Blue_3rd when I was a teen I used to work out note for note and try to play all of Michael’s solos and harmonies from UFO up to and including Strangers and all his MSG stuff too….There is so much Michael taught me. He is quite simple one of the most emotionally expressive and melodically aware guitar players ROCK HAS EVER HAD. And his playing has an IDENTITY which is INSTANTLY RECOGNISABLE unlike so many today..His TONE and Flying V Wah Pedal set penetrating midrange is SUPURB …And how he evolved and refined it is a fascinating guitar study in itself.
Michael Schenker is a rock guitarist icon and one of the greatest of all time yet he is rarely mentioned on any 'best guitarist' list. Such a shame that Michael, Ritchie Blackmore . Uli Jon Roth and others are repeatedly snubbed when it comes to praising these true guitar Gods. Unbelievable that the 'I Shot the Sheriff' guy is usually in the top 5
And didn't play not even a single song for the mcauley period...And this was the proof why my friend michael schenker is doomed to play for 800-1000 people.Because he is a motherfucker stubborn without a logical sense person!
Me too, they said they were going to record a future show on that tour with McAuley (possibly in the Netherlands or Belgium, don't quite remember) for a future release. I'm hoping it will be out soon, maybe as a bonus to the next MSG album. That show was so good, got to meet the band (except Michael) afterwards, they were very nice to sign my setlist and albums.
And now I see that Ronnie Romero has left the band, and McAuley is back behind the mic for the rest of the year! This recording seems to be of the last show with Romero. I wonder who'll be singing for MSG in 2024. Hopefully Doogie White or still Robin McAuley.
29:45, I saw him 10 years ago, when good old UFO songs are played, it's a total joy. MS solos are sooooo expressive, he still has it at 68 yo with his distinctive sound, respect 🙌. 1:05:56 instant goose bumps ❤
He was my favorite guitarist when I first heard about him being in Scorpions at the age of 15. Then he joined UFO with albums Phenomenon, Force It, No Heavy Petting, Lights Out, Obsession, Strangers In The Night then he rejoined Scorpions for the Love Drive album with songs he wrote and played lead on. Mathias Jabs played some lead on the album but it was mostly Michaels work. Mathias was waiting for Michael to depart Scorpions because he already had MSG in the works. It was a win-win for both Mathias and Michael
Schenker had that cocked wah tone and it was awesome. He was a big influence for me as i was growing up playing guitar. Too hot to handle was my favorite solo.
My fave solo too, it’s really one long lick, lol, I finally took the time to learn it recently. The timing of his fretboard acrobatics is so quirky and unique! I love the newer stuff. The solo sin Drilled to Kill from the album Immortal is another long phrase, lots of chromatics and crazy bends. His vibrato is immaculate on After the Rain.
The music force is strong in the Schenker family. Michael's older brother Rudolf is a founding member of Scorpions, a band Michael was also a member of prior to UFO and later in MSG.
The man has the tone and was an example/influence for many players to come. He wrote and played a lot for The Scorpions, never got the credits though. it is really a shame that he was even not mentioned on those albums. If you know his style of playing you can imediatly pick em out. Own style, great Player.

Man, Woman, wow! Isn't this something worth listening to during the day? That is; being held at night, I would be getting so relaxed that I would want to spend the night and stay there until the sun came up and then go home. How did anyone do it and there is so many that showed up. Hotels, Campers? Staying in your cars? Does fatigue qualify for an excuse to stay? Where are the rest rooms and coffee shops with donuts? It looks like elbow-to-elbow people. I am just thinking out loud envisioning the past. How challenging it must have been and still is to see a show far away. I advocate for more rest stops along the way to tour and travel with round abouts and showers to freshen up in. Don't forget a pet park too. Some folks still ride and transport horses. I used to hitch hike and now it's frowned upon. Still no buses to these events. Grrrrr. But I drive now. Why do younger rock singers and guitarists strut and play the part of a 'rock star' , instead of simply being an authentic rock musician. Style over substance. Johnny Depp does this as well. Like being a rockstar is a an act, instead of who they are.
I can't agree with all the positive comments about the singer. He may have "astonishing pipes", but they're of the wrong format for this band. He sounds incredibly irritating and far too difficult to listen to during a whole show. It's like with the current Foreigner singer: I won't claim it's a bad singer, but hearing him doing the Lou Gramm stuff is as wrong as hearing the singer here singing Lights Out. Rarely a new singer fits the shoes or gives an interesting new dimension to a band. AC.DC once struck gold, after the untimely death of Scott. But here.... It all sounds like trying to make a tasty soup with the wrong ingredients. It's a liquid alright and it even got the colours of a normal soup. But I won't drink it.
