I am Japanese. I participated in this festival. I remember Vivian Campbell's guitar trouble on "Hungry For Heaven". I can't forget that Ronnie sang what was supposed to be a guitar solo to buy time. I love Ronnie's vocals. Rest in peace.
He was 43 at the time. An age at which most singers are already past their prime. Not Dio. His prime lasted for decades. What an incredible talent, what a unique person 😦
I agree with u that Ronnie s prime lasted decades, the devil u know isnt the kind of mature and excellent LP many veteran rockers could pull off. But 43 yo at this moment, for real? Y gotta be dog styling me. I can't buy it, honestly.
@@SuperLuckaoSadly, those Dio-dick riders, won't agree with u. They havent listened to Anno Mundi, the Shinning, Headless Cross and how great Tony Martin could pull off every Sabbath era tune when he was on a good night. The better singer is definetely Ray Gillen. However Dio s Best efforts, for me, are his darker ones, Dehumanizer, the devil You know, Angry Machines, Strange Highways, Lock up the wolves, and first Rainbow LP (the more grounded and not dark one at all). Sad thing is that Dio s style never evolved and when he teamed up with musicians who think out off the box, the ones that had something to say, different than the LA heavy rock and hair metal players, thats when unique things happened, but Dio wasnt the one to put some versatility to use, especially on the lyrical department. He just threw sounds with his gifted voice in a riveting way and thats about all there ever was. With the exception off that state of the art crafted LP under the Heaven and Hell moniker.

11:00 and 21:04 Vivian Campbell is a guitar god. this whole line up was fantastic. Ronnie (RIP), Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain (RIP), Claude Schnell. this was at the pinnacle of metal in the 1980s. \m/
the first two albums were insane. B4 that my go to album in metal was Mob Rules, while dabbling in everything metal to not metal. Randy and Ed got me wanting to shred, Brad Gillis more filled the gap whee Randy passed. But i have to say when Jake came along i kinda became a Jake guy, but also being a Vivian guy. My favorite live video was always ..and i mean ever is Ozzy with Jake Bark at the Moon, the classic one. But watching this right now - i'm like oh yeah, Vivian was insane.
This lineup was just magical. FIRE. And I like all of Dio's lineups: Goldy, Robertson, Tracy G, and the perfectionist Doug Aldrich. Also should be mentioned that this occured in the Golden Age of Heavy Metal, everything was so new and exciting back then...There will never be another Ronnie James Dio....
@@Beethoven5th ok, until I read your comment, I hadn't even noticed, shame on me!! Went back to watch again, and yeah, Jimmy Bain, wow. Starts laying down a mean ass bass line to fill the time, just amazing! Thank you for pointing that out! (how embarrassing that I didn't notice)

Ronnie just mic dropping on this performance, proving why he is one of if not the best voice in metal/Rock his contribution to Rainbow and Elf can't get ignored as he is most known for Black Sabbath and solo years. A pioneer and vastly missed artist RIP ✌❤💯
I wouldn't say THE best all time, but he's definitely in my top 3...my other 2 favs are 1) Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) and 2) Geoff Tate (Queensryche)
I was 12 years old. I asked my cousin what he wanted for Christmas. He said (a cassette of) Dio's the Last in Line. I gave it to him. We listened to it together after he opened it. I was hooked. Dio was the first band to "my band". I listened to them nonstop. From Dio to Judas Priest to Metallica to Faith No More to Testament to Pantera to Type O Negative to Opeth to Within Temptation to Devin Townsend to Evergrey to Agalloch to Crypt Sermon. 35+ years of metal all started with this band and performances like this. Thanks Ronnie!
That's freaking great! (Type O, cool! so I'm not the only one still listening to them...) Dio, Priest, Sabbath my holy trinity of Metal. (Iommi being the Godfather of Heavy Metal, for without him losing the tips of his 2 fingers, Heavy Metal would be very different today!)
1st concert I ever went to was all 3 together- Y&T/Dokken/Dio Holy Diver Tour when I was 16 years old! The show was down the street from my house at the Long Beach Arena, California. That was a party I never came home from. I have been a Metal Head for the rest of my life! The power of rock guitar possessed my soul. Thank you, DIO !!!!!! (I'm 53 lol!)

It was then included in Guitar for the Practicing Musician the very next week, lol! I was so proud of myself. I have to say Dio/Viv, along with Ozzy/RR & Jake, VH, Maiden, Priest, Zep, Lynch/DeMartini, Mike Varney's Shrapnel talents, YJM, etc. influenced my future more than I realized. But yeah, the lineups that were giging across the US and the world at the time were amazing! Such a wonderful era in metal music, miss it though grateful to have lived it. RIP RJD

@@MetallianDefender I didn’t say high notes - I said RANGE. The tonal range Ronnie’s voice was capable of (and his power in every part of it) is technically very unique. And I’m the BIGGEST Halford fan you’ll ever meet, btw - my all time favorite vocalist. And I agree with you there - NO ONE comes close to the man in his high range.
What a band. What a show. What a performance. I saw this original lineup a few times, plus several times with various later lineups. Got to meet RJD and band in the mid 2000's, when I ran into him at an airport lounge. I have to say that he talked to me, and treated me as though he'd known me all his life, with warmth, good humour and hugs. Yes hugs. Perhaps he mistook me for someone else! Even though there was the odd Dio lineup and album I didn't particularly care for, it's still an outstanding back catalogue. The last time I saw Dio the band live, was on the 'Holy Diver Live' tour, with Doug Aldrich, Scott Warren, Simon Wright and Rudy Sarzo. That was a great lineup, and epic show too. From the decades covering Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath/Heaven and Hell, and Dio, his contribution to rock music surely has to be one of the most significant of anyone. R.I.P. Ronnie. Very much missed.
O have seen Dio so many times, and i have also met him in person when i worked on a cruise ship. I dont lie, he spend one hour talking with me. What a great man he was. My favorite Dio concert was back in 1987 (Dream Evil) when i was 18!
Live Dio was soooo great 👍. 🤘 One of my favorite concerts. I 'm sad that Ronnie is dead. He was such a great singer. Fan since 1988. Was 20 years. My favorite song is :"Holy diver" and "Don' t talk to strangers".
Goldy is one heck of a great guy. Nothing but admiration and respect for Goldy, after seeing his interviews, and also he responded to one of my TH-cam comments, not long ago. I about fell out of my chair, but was able to carry on a brief exchange with him... after which I promptly told all of my friends "..yeah I was just talking to my dude Craig Goldy..." hahahaa
I was so lucky to see them with this line up back in 85 in Drammen Norway. My first metal concert with a major band. What great memories. I still have the poster and scarf that I bought after the show. RIP RJD.
Vivian Campbell doesn’t get anywhere near the credit he deserves as a guitar hero. He was a monster & those songs on the first 3 Dio records are as classic as anything in that period. Stand up and Shout!

I saw this legendary lineup in '1983 or '84 in Albuquerque New Mexico, Tingley Coliseum, I was 13 or 14, one of the best and loudest concerts I've ever been to, very entertaining!!!🤘🤘🤘
The whole band is performing like they're plugged into mains voltage. I saw the same lineup in Sydney, Australia around this time and left the venue thinking "Wow, that is how it's done!". Dio is anyway brilliant here but Vivian does an amazing job too, really great show!
Agreed. I think Vivian is one of the unsung guitar heroes of the 80's. Big, big sound.
Got their moneys worth, set could have been a little longer.
@@hawkeyeted People that know their shit know who he is
Miss you Ronnie you're music is timeless.
11:00 and 21:04 Vivian Campbell is a guitar god. this whole line up was fantastic. Ronnie (RIP), Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain (RIP), Claude Schnell. this was at the pinnacle of metal in the 1980s. \m/
\m/
FACTS!
the first two albums were insane.
@@charlesbarr3561 Goldy was great. Dream Evil is great album. hell yeah.
Vocals, grade 10 ; Bass, grade 10; Guitar , grade 10 ; Drums, grade 10.
Props to Jimmy Bain. He is a big part of the band. Especially when the guitar cuts out in hungry for heaven
amazing bass player
Good catch...
It looks like it happens at 15:01 mins and the band starts improvising.
DIO BEST SINGER EVER
I was luck enough to see DIO 3 times. Once with this line up, once with Sabbath, and once with one of his later line ups. I was blown away each and every time.
Ronnie James Dio was the best. His albums are loaded with truths. As life isn't about waiting for the Storm to pasa ( as the lies of Religion tells you), life is about learning how to dance in the Rain ! Just one of countless Rock bands that constantly told you the only path of be - coming light is by completely facing your inner darkness. Ahh the Divine Light of Rock N' Roll and Heavy Metal music constantly told us the truth since the beginning in the 1960's. The endless beauty and divinity of real Heavy Metal music never ceases to Amaze !! And of course it was the religious church goers who labeled Rock music as 'evil', but what isn't evil to them ? They label everything in their total blindness and hate everything and everybody. Mostly themselves. LOL !!
Best, best, best 1.000.000.000.000.000 best!!! Long Live DIO!!
YES. Wonderful MASTER OF SONG. Hard to believe he's not with us in the flesh any more. I hope the 3 poor souls that gave this a "thumbs down" learn a thing or two of real greatness!!!!
this was undoudtedly the best line up trought the Dio's solo carrer
No one will ever sing like dio a master of rock rip man
Dude that guitar solo in beat of a heart is sick! Long live rock n roll!
Ronnie just mic dropping on this performance, proving why he is one of if not the best voice in metal/Rock his contribution to Rainbow and Elf can't get ignored as he is most known for Black Sabbath and solo years. A pioneer and vastly missed artist RIP ✌❤💯

I strongly believe Ronnie J Dio was of the best performers in rock and roll history. A true Metal legend.
most amazing voice ever.....Master of Metal forever
I was there! RIP Ronnie. You are the best all time in rock vocalist.
King of Rock @ Rorr!
I wouldn't say THE best all time, but he's definitely in my top 3...my other 2 favs are 1) Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) and 2) Geoff Tate (Queensryche)
Ronnie James you are always with us! Remembering and missing you. Dio was,he is and will be.
Sounds like you have the same musical tastes as this 64 yo guy!
Thanks, Dio the best Rock vocal in the Earth !!! From Russia with love !!!
DIO, You were the best rock artist ever!🤘
RIP Dio !!! Legendary Master of Metal
Best ever DIO Line Up! Saw them in this Line Up in Germany!
I saw a Dio in corpus Christi Texas
The Campbell years were the greatest no doubt
What a show! Ronnie's voice was on fire, and bruuuuuuhhhhhh Vivian was shredding like crazy!
IKR...nobody can do that today
Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio in the show. That is very nice to see and hear!!
(I'm 53 lol!)
my first concert as well last in line tour Albuquerque NM

Man those were the days! I was 16 when Holy Diver was released and I remember rewinding the solo to Rainbow in the Dark over and over nailing it note for note. RIP RJD
@@ibanez1683 yeah, just think... OUR GENERATION got to live this first hand! And there will never be another like it. I guess we're lucky we were there when Metal history was made.
There will NEVER be another voice to equal his. Astounding range and power in his delivery.
And coming from such a tiny man. Reminds me of John Lee Hooker.

Hmmm there are really no high notes anywhere. See Rob Halford- thee untouchable #1
Definitely the greatest Dio line up. Vivian was (and still is) such a great guitarist but doesn't quite get to flex his muscles properly with Leppard.
He sounded GREAT on the last Riverdogs Record!
I would argue that he flexed plenty with Def Leppard. But yeah, great line-up here. R.I.P Ronnie and Jimmie.
The best years of Dio.
My favorite Dio concert was back in 1987 (Dream Evil) when i was 18!
sacred heart was mine,3rd row gold floor seats
DEAM EVILL WAS A GREAT ALBUM..
AND ALLL THE FOOOLS SAIL AWAY..........
DONT TALK TO STRAGERS.. IT THINK ALSO WAS ON THAT RECORD.. i BOUGHT IT..
I've seen him live at this tour in Hannover, Germany. And it was a real great show. What a piece of remembrance. 🤘🏻🤘🏻😍😍

I was so lucky to see them with this line up back in 85 in Drammen Norway. My first metal concert with a major band. What great memories. I still have the poster and scarf that I bought after the show. RIP RJD.
Probably the best Dio concert ever, everyone was at the top of their game, everything came out with perfection!
THIS is METAL, folks! It may not be your cuppa tea, but ya gotta appreciate the talent! Massive talent!

Vivian Campbell doesn’t get anywhere near the credit he deserves as a guitar hero. He was a monster & those songs on the first 3 Dio records are as classic as anything in that period. Stand up and Shout!

His heavy drag is perfect for Dio and so difficult to do. Incredible drummer!
I saw this legendary lineup in '1983 or '84 in Albuquerque New Mexico, Tingley Coliseum, I was 13 or 14, one of the best and loudest concerts I've ever been to, very entertaining!!!🤘🤘🤘
